M ST. Cafe
Our go to place for a wonderful Sunday brunch for years!
Very nice brunch. Excellent service! I am always thrilled to find a place where the noise level allows for conversation around the table. It was terrific.
While the food at brunch was good, the service was notably weak. First, we wanted a reservation for 8. The app would only permit a reservation for 7. I called and always got VM. I left a message. I never received a returned call. When we mentioned that to the hostess upon arrival, it was clear she didn't care.
One guest wanted to order from the menu rather than have the buffet. She gave up when the waitress never returned. Empty water and coffee were the norm. Upon leaving, we waited for about 5 minutes at the host stand to obtain parking validation. All in all, remarkably disappointing service, with the notable exception of the omelette station. The man there was very friendly and customer service oriented. I think people expect better service at the St. Paul Hotel.
I brought 5 family members for breakfast: two adults and three children. Everyone ordered something they wanted. The children enjoyed their pancakes and bacon, and each adult tried something different. Our server was very gracious and friendly. The children and one adult were there for the first time. It was altogether a very excellent experience.
As usual Florance and your kitchen did an outstanding job!
You are the best.
I had hoped for more selection. The meat cutting lady was NOT friendly and I found myself avoiding anywhere she was. Not once or twice, but 3 times. And I really wanted more Prime Rib. The Prime Rib was so tasty but surprisingly fatty and gristly. Really wish you could get thicker slices so there wouldn't be so much trimming and less time having to see the rude meat cutting lady. The Eggs Benedict were super chewy from sitting in the warmer, sweating and not nearly enough Hollandaise. Even the fresh batch. Wishing you had the Hollandaise sitting out on the side to add to other things, including the Benedict. My favorite soup is Clam Chowder but it was so salty I couldn't eat it. The Waffles and bananas were the stand out but I don't go to a Brunch like that for the waffles. The waffles were also chewy from sweating in the warmer but I could see clearly they were crispy when the not very kind lady took them out of the waffle griddle. The waitress was very pleasant but she hustled us to get moving. We were, after all, there for over an hour. She brought us our check without asking if we were finished with drinks. I certainly didn't hold it against her. Figured she wanted to be done with her shift and we continued on at another bar. We were SO looking forward to this special occasion and sadly I can't say it was worth the wait. More than likely will NOT return or recommend. But I hope you take this and use constructively. NOT to yell or call out but to repair.
I invited two nieces to join me for breakfast, and it was the first visit for both of them. They were very impressed, and both hoped to return, especially to try the Sunday brunch which was being set up while we ate from the menu. We had a very enjoyable meal!
Loved the food and desserts!
This visit for brunch was substandard. Potatoes and vegetables were cold, Eggs Benedict were extremely overcooked. Prime rib roast was very stringy and dry and was cooked to medium or higher for entire roast. Given the strong ones and toughness of the meat, I question whether it was really a rib roast. I really think it was a different roast cut. The accompanying horseradish sauce was also runny, basically the consistency of milk. The cold bar and desserts were about as usual.
Service on the hot bar and omelette stations was lacking. It appeared as if the individuals working those areas were new/inexperienced. Our server was pleasant but slow to clear used plates from the table and to refill beverages. Just over half the tables were occupied while we were there so it wasn’t a matter of the restaurant being slammed.
Serving staff appeared to be in training and not very helpful. Wait staff was overheard complaining about other staff.
Eggs benedict had brown egg shells included, potatoes were cold, beef was tough, fruit was good, cheese cake was not even close to creamy, pineapple bomb was pretty however a spoon could not even piece !
Overall one of the worst brunches ever!
Fantastic brunch on Christmas Day. Part of our family came together for an amazing brunch for a first time visit to M cafe. So many choices which fit everyone’s taste. Best sever prime rib, egg dishes. including a made to order omelet, amazing dessert selection, vegies, and seafood. We were in w of the side room which was perfect for keeping noise level down and the round table was perfect. The St Paul Hotel is a lovely, elegant destination too! Great experience and friendly, competent server as well.
This was our first time there and we went for Christmas brunch which was delicious! The service was so good and the dessert buffet topped off a great meal. My only suggestion is that for the price you include coffee at no charge.
Overall amazing job MSC!
My family and I went to M St Cafe for their Christmas brunch since the menu looked amazing and the price wasnt too expensive. It was a fabulous experience and we will be doing this for many years to come.
Everything was lovely and delicious.
We went to M St. Cafe for brunch on Christmas Eve. Our server Valerie was such a treat!! We adored her. Very polite and attentive and just as friendly as can be!! She definitely made our visit! Some of us had breakfast entrees, which were delicious along with our mimosas. A couple attendees had the lunch buffet and raved about the brisket. Would definitely recommend!!
The service was wonderful, our waitress was very friendly and always there to clear plates and bring coffee. The food - all of it - was delicious. there was a large variety of items to chose from. I would certainly go back.
All was excellent!
Extremely noisy. Very poorly staffed. Parking challenging
Wonderful breakfast at M Street, we were seated on time and wait staff was fantastic.
Had a fun holiday lunch with friends. Some enjoyed the sideboard while I chose one of several terrific salads on the menu. This my go-to place for lunch in St. Paul.
Excellent place to catch up with an old friend.
The food was above average, however poor service and small food selection brought overall rating down. I would expect a 25 per plate brunch buffet to include a drink. Nope. Add 3 dollars per beverage. Won't be going back.
Nice location, but need to say that I should have paid more attention to the reviews on Yelp -etc. Poor hot selection or should I say warm selection. The same guy carving the prime rib was in charge of keeping the potatoes and warm veggies full so we waited for him with a line of 10 and growing behind us. The Omelet bar wasn't staffed and people waiting when we went through the line (came later but who knows where he was and we never did order and omelet? Here was the list on the warm table. Chunk of Salmon, warm sloppy zucchini/yellow sq and who knows what else, mashed potatoes, prime rib, small waffle, bacon and sausage - an unmanned omelette bar - that's it for $25.00 bucks. Salad bar pretty small too and low budget. My wife had a $24.95 salad and didn't even finished that. Prime rib and potatoes were actually good. Poorly staffed to say the least..... Pretty disappointed and won;t be going back.
Annually we go for Thanksgiving Buffett. This year we went at 11:30 and had a perfect experience. The staff was phenomenal. Variety of foods and desserts were delicious.
It has been a long time since my family and I have felt as welcome and cared about at a restaurant as we were at M Street. Wonderful. Simply wonderful.
Absolutely wonderful to celebrate Thanksgiving. No cooking, no clean up in a beautiful setting. Great food and would do it again.
Celebrating Thanksgiving, and having the brunch at M St Cafe is becoming a tradition for our family. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly and attentive!
The staff is always friendly and attentive!
Our server Rebecca was wonderful per usual. Had our beverages (Diet Cokes) on the table before we sat down. She is the reason we keep coming back to the restaurant!
We were pleased with our meal, but it would be helpful to indicate which foods are gluten-free. I had to ask the wait staff (who were extremely busy), who then had to go into the kitchen and ask those who were preparing the food. Also, the person who was working at the omelette station also had to double as the carving chef. Felt sorry for this guy!!
Only improvement I would ask is that they offer grilled walleye as an alternative to breaded in the walleye sandwich. It is a very good sandwich but could be better!
It is a lovely place to have lunch after a concert.
We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. Food was OK, not outstanding, but the venue is close to the Ordway, and we are elderly.
Quiet lunch with colleagues. Kale barley soup warmed me up!
The service was good and the fruit and seafood bar were exceptional.
We were disappointed in the entree buffet. The salmon and chicken were both overcooked and dry. All of the food, which was supposed to be hot, was lukewarm. We might come there again, but would order off the menu to see if that is better.
Excellent as always.
This is a cute spot for lunch and the prices were moderate. However, the food gets mixed reviews. There were three of us having lunch there. My sister ordered the walleye sandwhich and was very disappointed with it. The fish was obviously frozen and not warmed up sufficiently, there was an overabundance of bread, and she complained about the taste. Our friend ordeered a burger and was quite happy with it. I had the buffet which gets mixed reviews. The salad bar had minimal entries and both the fruit and entrees were bland. The main course (Jamaican beef tenders) was excellent and flavorable. The rest of the side dishes were unmemorable. Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant.
Food quality was fantastic with quick service. They were very accommodating for our group.
Great food and Katherine is a great server . We’ll be back
Wonderful place to stop in the midst of a busy day.
