Madeline Garden Bistro & Venue
This is such a delightful spot. I’ve had High Tea and several dinners and it’s is sumptuous. Pasadena has a true hidden gem in this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and visit it soon!
The ambiance is beautiful and the tea/food is delicious. Great price too.
Small portions, slow service, dishes were not warm enough, steak raw not medium but lovely atmosphere.
We came here for the architecture, but were pleasantly surprised by the harpist, as an added touch. The service was great. The food was excellent. Even though one of our courses ran out, the waitress provided us options to make up for it. Only complaint was that one main course was a little cold, as a result of the change in decision for the other meal. The harpist was great. She played all different types of music, and was excellent. The dining hall was gorgeous. We will come back again, for some of the other events.
The restaurant was in a nice location, I ordered the surf and turf and was disappointed the steak and the scallop was cold and the shrimp was overcooked, the portion was small for the price, my wife had white fish which was overcooked.
Went to Madeline Garden for Valentines Dinner. While the ambience, music and service was great, the food was quite poor. We ordered the soup and it came lukewarm. We ordered a salad w/nuts and strawberries on the side because my husband cannot digest any nuts or seeds. The plain salad came and we had to ask twice for the nuts and strawberries. My girlfriend and I ordered the fish entree and my husband and other friend ordered the filet minon w/scallops. The fish was overcooked, dry with little taste. The scallops were still raw in the middle and filets were like the size of a half dollar. All entrees were served room temp, not hot! Overall, would never choose to go here for the food again. Our friends were quite disgusted and reconfirmed the reason why they don’t normally go out to dinner on Valentines. Quality of food and portions are very small and lack overall taste.
We had the tea room to ourselves with a fire in the fireplace and total professional wait staff attention. Inobtrusive but attentive. Food was absolutely perfect in preparation and presentation. An outstanding restaurant.
We had a delicious meal here, having found it on Open Table. The restaurant is housed in an amazing historic building where Albert Einstein worked, which has been artistically and lovingly restored. The food was very tasty and service excellent (surprisingly no other diners) would recommend highly
The tea service was excellent! Both food and service an the setting is very sophisticated. Parking was easy too.
A horrible Christmas lunch at a has been Pasadena landmark. Started with greeting by host in a ski jacket and seated in room with only 4 tables occupied. Service initially poor and slow. When the meal came only two came out at the same time. My son had eggs Benedict prosciutto with avocado. Sounded great. Unfortunately the prosciutto moved off the avocado to reveal blackened dotted avocados. Horrible. My French toast frittata came cold. So both were sent back (after waiting 30 minutes) to redo. I asked for more coffee while waiting. Third dish came out. Tea tier sandwiches. Alimony, unappeting and expensive $27. So when coffee refill did not arrive I went to kitchen to check status on food and request coffee. Host still in ski jacket working in kitchen. Then he brings out coffe in a new white China cup. Places in front of me. I am stunned. The entire rim is covered with lipstick. I have to point it to him and he says his are are poor and he couldn’t see it. When I ask stays of food I am told they are sorry but short staffed. Finally I had it and told them we would leave. Said food was coming and it would be complimentary. Told them I am not an opportunist who complains to get a free meal. Told them to keep it but charge me for the 27 sandwich because we took some bites while waiting for the cooked food. They did charge. I paid and left.
As an aside even when I used the bathroom it was not clean. A waste of money in a tired old grand location that had lost it. Really too bad but from decor, to food to service this place fails in every level.
Al lovely dinner in a side room in front of a warming fireplace. Service was excellent. Intimate. I appeared that we had to whole restaurant to ourselves!!
I appreciate that there are vegetarian options for high tea, however it’s so NOT high tea.
The soup is good. There was one sandwich. Cucumber with a sweet cream cheese. It should be savory not sweet.
Multiple tiny bite size things. A deviled egg. Tomato skewer with cheese and cauliflower. Seriously? Just put some nice savory, veggie sandwiches and maybe one warm cheesy item.
The scone was as awful. The tea was ok. The sweets were. Err poor quality.
I won’t be returning
I went for dinner on a weekday. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very professional, and pleasant. However, the food was stale. The seafood was not fresh. The ice cream was freezer burned and rubbery. The ambiance is nice, and the restaurant has potential, but it is not living up to that potential.
Our table service far exceeded the expectations and standards of most of the dining establishments in Los Angeles. The ambiance was truly wonderful from the location, structure, interior, music, and decor.
I am trying to remember our server's name and I think it was Felix or possible Fernand (my apologies for not remembering) was outstanding and elevated the rating.
Food was good, pastries were tremendous, teas beautifully presented, the roasted beet salad was lovely, the chef, Michelle, was incredibly accommodating and pivoted on the menu items without hesitation.
We had a chance to just sit and take in the ambiance and it was as if we had traveled elsewhere.
We would all highly recommend this charming French Bistro tucked in the city of Pasadena.
What a beautiful place. The ambience is stunning. It was an unusually cold night and we sat next to the fire. So lovely. The food was delicious and the service friendly and impeccable. Do yourself a favor and visit this gem!
amazing so lovely
We celebrated my mom’s 90th Birthday with a group of 9, we sat in tea room. The service was great, scones delicious, and champagne brunch deal reasonable with good selections. The atmosphere and decor is elaborate but not stuffy. Everyone felt it was a great new find.
I usually love Madeline Garden Bistro, this last time I went I was a little disappointed in the food. Usually I leave overly satisfied which is why I continue to return for the last 4 years. May have been an off day or maybe because I came on a weekday instead of a weekend? However I can always say that tea is usually phenomenal, with hot and cold foods, its a good place to go if you are new at high tea.
Limited dinner menu
This little hidden gem is the place to go for afternoon tea or a weekend brunch. The food is amazing and delicious. The service was wonderful and the place is just beautiful. You feel comfortable dressed for high tea or in casual attire. Did I mention how delicious the food was? You will not be disappointed
I came here when it first opened years ago and it was the most unorganized restaurant in the world. Now years later, it hasn’t changed that much. Came for high tea.
Positives: the food is good and very lovely presentation. The tea is good. The ambiance is lovely. The harpist was excellent. Desserts and scone were great
Negatives: very slow service, inexperienced servers. A little noisy. No tablecloths for high tea.
The veggie tier was tasty but all the savory items had sweetness. Sweetness should be saved for desserts. I want savory for savory. Even the cucumber sandwich was sweet. Yuck!
Very overpriced!! Why are you adding in tip for a party of 3?
Tea was not replenished with hot water.
You need solid managers walking around and ensuring things run smoothly. Very unorganized considering they’ve been around for about 5 years.
This place has amazing potential. Get some decent management.
I highly recommend Madeline Garden for both high tea and Sunday Champagne brunch. The food was incredible and the service was outstanding.
Cute place. Confused servers. Okay food. Fifty eight dollars each for brunch which consisted of a single small tray of food to be shared by three people.
Such a darling patio! It was the perfect place for Easter brunch. Both the food and the service were excellent. I highly recommend this unique and charming venue.
Wonderful setting. Great service. A little pricey. But overall a great experience.
Rather a disappointment as we were forgotten, both in having a table for us at our reserved time, and then serving us once we were finally seated
I was here during the Christmas holidays with a friend and last Thursday I took my 7-yr-old for Hight Tea. Both times the experience was so lovely. This is a family owned restaurant that serves a traditional high teas with clotted cream, small scones, and small portion savories and desserts. It was so peaceful, and the owner, Ginny, went out of her way both times to deliver excellent service to us. It is located in a historically important old bldg in Pasadena, and the rooms are lovely. I will return here again and again for special high teas. They also have a beer garden in their beautiful patio, and serve lunch and dinners in addition to the high teas.
This truly is a hidden gem! They may be known for their High Tea but we went for dinner and had a scrumptious meal, in a beautiful decor, with wonderfully attentive service. I had the Lobster Risotto which was delicious and buttery. Husband had the Scallop which were also delicious. We ate early and there was hardly anyone there! Considering how good the food was and how excellent the service, we were very surprised by how empty it was.
The kitchen was a little slow but we were well-rewarded with a fine meal. Apparently they offer High Tea in the evenings too and we will definitely return.
Our server appears to have little experience and was exceeding slow. When the tea pot finally arrived he did not bring the cups for another 10 mins. When the bill arrived the tip was already added. Nevertheless the slip for the signature had the tip item empty for those who did not look at the bill carefully. We will not be returning.
