Brunch was excellent although the beef was a bit overcooked.
My fiancee had the sirlion (med rare) and I had the filet (med rare). My steak was closer to med well, but it was good. Our appetizer of calamari was a bit heavily breaded; it paired best with the spicey thai sauce. We had a decent experience overall and the restaurant accommodations were nice, but felt the food could have been better. We had both been to the Mendenhall many years ago when the restaurant was in it's prime. Today, it seems the establishment is more focused on their hotel than the restaurant.
As always! Superb meal and exceptional service. My favorite place for a fancy dinner. Ambiance is wonderful..... 👍👍👍
Went there for Thanksgiving, and it was awesome. Took my wife back for Valentine's day and eat at the restaurant. Must say we were not impressed. Rice was undercooked, lamd was just ok. Wine list for the reputation of the restaurant was underwhelming. Average wines at best, good for everyday. No Bordeaux, Rhone etc. We had a knat flying around all meal. Desert was the best part of the meal.
A perfect romantic dinner! A flower was given to my wife, the fireplaces were going and the tables shimmering with votives on the tables. Then came the delicious food which was presented in artistic fashion. Wonderful evening.
Excellent experience!! Beautiful ambience. Better Signage would be helpful outside to make it abundantly clear where the restaurant is located and where to park for restaurant guests. They also have an Inn and host weddings as well. Both areas were active with people. We were very unclear where to go to dine.
Service was wonderful from the moment we walked inside. I would ask for a different table away from the kitchen door next time. We could hear a lot of loud communication with kitchen staff, but it certainly didn’t ruin the experience. Just good to know for first time guests.
Each course was timed perfectly, which we appreciated greatly. The house cocktail was superb.
We began with calamari and stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious and generous in portion. The duck main course was cooked to perfection. The prime rib was also excellently prepared!
We will absolutely return and will count on this place to celebrate special occasions, indeed!
Got drinks at the bar while waiting for a table so we had drinks when we were seated. Waitress came to take drink order and that was the last we saw her for 45 minutes. Food took a long time after ordering, probably sat a while before finding it’s way to our table. Dessert, cheesecake, was still frozen and coffee served was not fresh.
Overall: very good. Need to improve wait time to be seated.
The food and service was amazing as always. I never have a bad experience here.
Outstanding place, very comfortable, great folks that work there. Food is outstanding and unique in it's creation. Prices are right for a top end restaurant. We will be back.
Good food excellent service
Impeccable service, delicious meal, beautiful atmosphere, sat right by the fireplace, received a flower from the host and enjoyed the peaceful ambiance! Andy was our waiter and he was great!
Good was terrible especially for the price. Service however was good
We went for Sunday Brunch. It has been about five months since we ate at Mendenhall Inn. It has always been one of our favorite restaurants in the Wilmington/Philadelphia area. This brunch was excellent before and has improved beyond our expectations with the addition of Prime Rib Carving and Bloody Mary stations. Service has always been superb.
We highly recommend this restaurant.
Haven't been to Mendenhall in years! Excellent experience from arrival to departure! Thank you so much!
Was disappointed not being near the fireplace since the tables were not set up. Our server was one of the best I have had here ( Andy I think it was). The cheesecake for dessert was great!
Great menu. And good food. Never disappoints.
This is probably the 10th or so time that we have had dinner at Mendenhall Inn (also 1 wedding as hosts). It is the first time I wouldn't give a rating of 4 or 5 across the board. We had the price fixed sirloin steak. It was ok but not up to Mendenhall's standards. In the future we will avoid the price fix options.
Not for brunch. Food was not served at proper temperature. Prime rib was not warm, only thing warm was au jus. Pastry’s were cold, crab cakes were not hot. Disappointing overall. Server was not busy but still had to get another server to bring coffee and had to wait forever for lemon for the tea.
Go there for special occasions - the food is very good and the wait staff is always good. Enjoy going there very much.
Nice, quiet atmosphere. Seated by the fireplace which was really nice. Food was delicious and the servers were very friendly and attentive.
food was great and with a birthday $20 off coupon it was a fabulous value
We go to Mendenhall four meals quite often. During our meal there on January 11th for a party of five I was disappointed in two areas.
Some of us, including me, got the surf and turf special with an 8 oz sirloin ($30) while one of us got the "upgrade" to 6 oz filet for another $8. When my plate came, I thought for sure it was the smaller fillet but the waitress insisted it was the sirloin. My son next to me also got the sirloin yet his meat was significantly larger and thicker as well. folks at the table insisted they had to be the same meeting since they are sold by weight. Well, a piece of meat that is larger and all dimensions surely does not weigh the same. Other than the meat quantity issue, the rest of the food was fine.
When our bill came and I reviewed it, I noticed that the three surf and turf specials were $114 instead of 90. And the one special that was upgraded to full I was $46 instead of 38. when I spoke to the waitress she apologized and stated that the computer must not have changed the prices for that night. Well, that was a $32 error that I luckily caught. In addition, after the bill was corrected they simply subtracted $32 from the total bill yet the tax was still on there from the original amount. :-/ In order to not to cause any more embarrassment, we simply paid the bill.
We typically enjoy Mendenhall very much this really left me feeling that I had been taken advantage of. So if I go away feeling like that, why should I go back?
Always liked the ambiance (been there many times, but its been a while). I ordered New York strip. Large piece of meat but not very tender or flavorful. For the price I expected more. I eat NY strip frequently out as well as home. Would not order it again here. Service was good but slow. We were ready to go about 20 minutes before we were able to. Had 7:30 reservations, we were close to the last to leave. Not planning to return anytime soon. Wasn't a great experience for my wife and I.
Great food, nice atmosphere. This was our first time dining here and we will definitely return.
I’m a repeat dinner at The Mendenhall. My dining partners were very happy. One had crab cakes and raved about them, 2 had the prime rib and were also very happy. I had the sirloin which was good. I was disappointed that the server forgot to wrap up my half plate of leftovers to take home. We think she was very busy with tables in the main restaurant and lounge area. I had half my steak left and half the veggies.
I haven't visited Mendenhall for quite some time, and the last time I went it was for brunch. This time, I went for dinner, and it was very good. I ordered the veal chop, which sounded wonderful, from the menu. The chop itself was large, but pretty bland. That is the only downside to the meal. The rest of the meal, appetizers & dessert were very good. I went in thinking I would get the prime rib, which I should have stuck with, but the veal chop looked appealing. I saw another table that got the prime rib and I was regretting that I hadn't ordered it, myself.
Everything about our dining experience on New Years evening was exceptional. First time there a little confused about where to go for the host but met him as we walked toward the dining area. After being seated everything was great. Waitress was a gem and very helpful with her recommendations. First time but definitely not our last.
Yes, our 2nd year there for New years Eve. No waiting to be seated, restaurant looked a classy as ever. Our waiter Andy was very attentive with excellent service. As far as dinner was concerned my wife ordered the Prime Rib which she said was very good, her Caesar salad was a bit soupy. I ordered the Veal /Crabmeat Francaise which was horrible, very unusual taste, won't order that again didn't finish it. Otherwise a perfect evening I will be going back again but eating something else.
Another great dinner service Our waiter was the best! The food was delicious everyone enjoy a great New Year’s Eve dinner thank you
Excellent food and surroundings nicely decorated for the season. Service was a bit slow but the restaurant was near full. More staff would have helped.
The food and service quality of this restaurant have gone down over the past few years. My duck was cooked to dryness, our server, while very sweet was not well trained by the restaurant manager (thought that Bluepoints were the only oysters anywhere, didn't know what a decanter was and when asked about smaller glasses for dessert wine told us there was only one size wine glass).
Finally their signature dessert, Bananas Foster, is one of my favorites. This dessert is flambéed table side, and when four of us ordered it, the person that made the dessert for us made two(2) peoples worth of Bananas Foster and then spread it amongst four(4) of us.
This place is on the downhill slide and I can only hope management has the chance to turn it around before it's only a place for hotel guests to eat at because it's close.
Not sure if they were short on service staff, but the service was very slow. We had to ask for drink refills ,never got offered another dinner roll and had to get the waiters attention as he never checked back. He seemed to have half the room to cover as well as a private event.
Over priced ,waiter was inept and very inattentive, Put other diners bill on our check and had to issue new check. House wine was poor and served in a mug instead of a wine glass. I know this sounds unreal, but, unfortunately, all true.
Lovely place, ambiance wise, but not a pleasant evening
Charles, We would like to apologize for the service you received on 12/28/2019 and have reviewed your concerns with our waitstaff and managers. All our glasses of wine are served in stemless wine glasses, we don't even have mugs on the property. If you prefer a stem wine glass please just let you waiter or waitress know and they will accommodate your request. We hope to see you again soon and Happy New Year
A very nice Dinner stop would recommend it.
A wonderful evening...great food and service
Romantic and quiet with a lovely fireplace and decorated beautifully for the holidays! Cant wait to return!
Resturant was very busy and it took a while for the food to be served
We had Christmas Eve Dinner reservations for 2 at 8pm, and arrived 10 minutes early. There were 2 or 3 parties waiting in the lounge ahead of us. We were seated around 8:30pm. When seated, we received water and rolls, but were not greeted by a server for another 20 minutes, we ordered drinks, appetizers and main dish when waiter finally arrived. We were not approached for another 20 minutes, and did not receive our drinks until we asked 3 times for them. Drinks finally came with our appetizers about 9:10 pm. We did not receive our entrees until 9:40, and the waiter had to clear our appetizer dishes when we were served, as the bus people appeared to be hiding wanting to possibly avoid questions from the customers.
Our halibut and crab cakes were very good, the side of veggies was cold. Three tables around us left with out receiving their dinners, as the kitchen was way behind in getting dinners out. Only found that information from one of the unhappy guests leaving the restaurant. The manager on duty was surly, unresponsive and apathetic to the chaos going on around him. Example, he promised to retrieve my drink order, but not surprising, I did not receive my drink order from him. I could consider that my fourth request for a drink order.
I was sorry to see the lack of team work during a difficult situation.
We had to wait 1 hour for our table.
Had a reservation for 11 people. Noticed when we got seated that people from other tables were complaining about the fact that they were still waiting for their food. They waited 2 hours and left. When we heard that, 6 persons of our party left considering that we were there for 1 hour already and they decided not to wait. I waited with 3 other persons for about another 15 to 30 minutes and were served. The waiter was apologetic and very accommodating. The food was good but we decided to opt out for dessert fearing that the wait would be longer. It was Christmas Eve and maybe the delay was caused by the restaurant being busy but I can't give a decent review because they were possibly overbooked and short handed.
