We had a wonderful evening and every aspect of the night was perfect. Our server, Bill, was outstanding and allowed us plenty of time to talk and did not rush us at all. We met 2 wonderful couples and spoke with them and we all had a great time and we are all looking forward to the restaurant opening again and meeting our new friends
Great food and wonderful service. I kind of miss the days when they had white linen and a bit more of an upscale atmosphere, but still a lovely place. Wonderful atmosphere in the old inn, don't miss a stop in the old tavern room.
Waitperson Bill was terrific. Busy as heck but never pressured, personable and friendly. He surely needs a raise!
Burgers are scrumptious.
Service is great.
Atmosphere is historical
We had an outstanding evening at Merchants Row. The service was spectacular and our server, Sheila, had the perfect sense of timing and understood how important the date was to me. The food was perfectly cooked and nice and hot when served. We had such a great evening, we are going back next Sunday !!
We had a delightful time here. Food was great, the service was awesome and super friendly.
I have been here twice and each time the service and food was excellent. It is a historic colonial days style restaurant. Ambiance very nice.
I've eaten here twice. The first time the experience was excellent, food and service-wise. This time not so much. It seemed there was only 1 elderly waiter for all of the tables in the room in which we were seated. It was at least 30 minutes from the time we sat until he came to take our order, and at that point he asked for the drinks and the food all together. He was unclear about the bar menu, and returned a few minutes later to confirm our food order, as he had not written one of our meals down. The food came out fast enough after that, but my prime rib had been pan seared (odd), was chewy, flavorless, and the popover was just this side of burnt. My husband's pot pie was delicious, and our past experience was very good. We will give this another try.
It was a crowded brunch so it was a bit noisy and it took a few minutes before our waitress was able to get to us for drinks. Other than that, it was outstanding. There was so many choices, it was difficult to not over indulge! Everything was wonderful. My only wish... was that they would put some of the Indian Pudding on the dessert bar!! The waitstaff was very attentive and when we were done, we were not rushed out at all.
Meats were cold, tea was lukewarm, bagels and cream cheese gone, bread pudding gone. Price per person rose from $35 to $36.95. Service attentiveness was lacking. We have been going to this Sunday brunch for years. Unsure that we will return.
We were there for dinner and our server was excellent and attentive. Food was very good. Our one critique would be that the tables “for 2” are awfully close together, which can make conversation awkward since it’s hard not to overhear if the next table is speaking in a normal voice. Overall though, it was a lovely evening we would return.
A really nice lunch in a cozy inn, full of early American history.
The food was just okay. It took about a half hour for our food to arrive. There was a special tea happening so I think the restaurant was a bit overwhelmed.
The food was good, nothing to rush back about but good. We were seated and didn’t even get water for at least 10min, once we got that we order a soup as an app and our entree, the soup never came, after about 1/2hr or so the waitress finally noticed that we didn’t have our soup and came over and asked if we got it to which we said no. We kindly told her that if our meal is ready we no longer want the soup. She came back and stated that the runner thought we got our soup so he didn’t bring it to us. Our meal then came out shortly after that. Again it was good but nothing we are rushing back for. Once it was time to pay the bill she dropped it off and i went to hand my card immediately to her when she stuck her finger up and said hold that thought then ran off for 10min before coming back to ya to finally get out bill payed. It was Valentine’s Day night but they were not overly busy. We will not be returning here.
The establishment was very nice and we were seated right away and you should make a reservation. We waited approx. 10 min. for a server to acknowledge us and when the server did , the person brought bread but no water for another few more minutes. Yes, it was busy for valentine's night. We will probably give it another try.
We find the Colonial Inn to be comfortable and convenient with excellent food
We had a very nice meal on busy night (Valentine's Day!) The Service & the food was spot-on!
Eh. Very mediocre food and service was slow. The Inn is cute but I’ve had nicer times in the bar. Maybe because lower expectations.
2nd time we went and the food was really good. I wish the menu was a little larger and they added new dishes, but overall, I would recommend.
Great historic ambiance and reasonably-priced food with big portions. We had a wonderful dinner.
I had been previously with co workers and thought it would be a nice place to take my wife for an early valentines dinner. It was a 90 mile round trip but more than worth it. Neither one of us was disappointed
Lovely historic location. Excellent food and service
Amazing breakfast buffet!!!
The service was marginal and the food was nothing special. It was crowded and noisy so we could not even talk over dinner. Would not go back there.
We went on a Saturday evening with friends. We were looking for a quiet place to eat and talk, Merchants Row did not disappoint! The food was delicious and we didn’t feel rushed. Not sure how experienced our waitstaff was bc of the way he kept crossing in front of me with dishes, water, etc and never once apologized, I had to keep moving myself out of his way so he could reach his desired spot. As we were preparing to leave, large parties came in and the noise levels became impossible to hear oneself think! Overall, a great meal and experience. Go early, very quiet!!
Went with friends for an early Sunday dinner. Food was very good. We started with salads, squash soup and potstickers. All were enjoyed. Main courses were stuffed cod, fettucini with mussels and shrimp, scallops with risotto and jambalaya. All were very good. One person in our party had multiple food allergies. He is also gluten free. He had the hamburger and they did have a gluten free roll for the burger. They graciously agreed to bring him the roll first so he would have something to eat while we had the bread. They were very solicitous of our group and went out of the way to consider the multiple allergies. We had sorbet and chocolate cake for dessert. Two people ordered tea and it arrived in a beautiful china tea pot, enough for 2 cups each for the two of them. Ambiance was very nice, quiet enough to have reasonable conversations.
No matter who owns this place, service continues to be an issue. We were seated and waited 10 minutes fr a server. Service is something you would expect in a diner, not a place like this. You never feel like they are happy to have you as a customers and in pas visits the waitstaff talk loudly to each other acronyms as the rom.
Excellent service and great food!
The Colonial Inn has a wonderful ambiance in an historic setting. The charbroiled burgers and sweet potato fries are outstanding. Overall food is very good and a good value.
I planned a special brunch with my wife to enjoy a special occasion. Unfortunately we were seated next to a dozen cackling women that could not have been louder, ruder, and more vulgar. It was impossible to have a conversation. An awful ambiance, and will not return. In addition, the food was very average.
My wife and I ate here before a show at the Umbrella Theater. We enjoyed every aspect of the meal.
The general atmosphere at the historic Colonial Inn is pleasing and the menu and food were good
but the noise level made it difficult to hear the person across the table from me even though I do
not have a hearing problem per se!
This place is amazing and our server that night was the bomb
The fish in the fish and chips was dry. When using gluten free batter it can't be cooked as long as ordinarily. The peppermint in the cheesecake was overpowering. When we got a couple next to us, they were so close that we couldn't help but have a long conversation.
Character, character, character. And did I mention history? All decked out for a colonial Christmas.
The atmosphere is very comfortable and the service was outstanding. I cannot say enough good things about the buffet--especially liked the mushrooms stuffed pasta with sauce and the swordfish. The desserts were fabulous and the maple butter looked good but I didn't have "room" for more.
