GREAT SERVICE! SOCIAL DISTANCED AND HAD A NICE THANKSGIVING DINNER
Pretty standard hotel faire, but a KC restaurant should do better burnt ends.
Made a reservation for Sunday Brunch. We were seated promptly and even though they were very busy the service was excellent with some of the best fresh fruit I have had in Kansas City--especially in the middle of winter. Lots of variety including turkey sausage and gluten-free muffins. A very nice buffet that seemed to be continuously refilled.
We have season tickets to the Broadway shows that come to the Music Hall and the Kauffman. When the shows are at the Music Hall we always eat at the Metropolitan KC. This time they said they didn't have out reservation and made us feel that we had screwed up even though I had a text from Open table. We were seated promptly however but it took an hour to order and receive our food which only left us 15 minutes to get to the Music Hall and be seated. Service has never been this slow. Not sure I will use this place in the future.
Volleyball tournament
The food was good and maybe slightly above average for a hotel but the atmosphere is very hotel-like with tables close together and somewhat uncomfortable seats. It was fairly quiet and easy to talk though and the service was excellent. It’s not an overall upscale experience for the money you are spending.
All very good. Being a pretty common "down home" kind of guy, I probably prefer a bit more of an informal surrounding, but overall I enjoyed the meal and the experience.
Good place to catch a bite before theater at the Music Hall. Food was very good. My husband had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. I had the beet and orange salad with salmon. Again, the seafood was perfectly cooked.
The service and food was wonderful and even tho I live in Kansas City, It made me feel as if I was out of town definitely would recommend dining here just a great place!
The food was not that good. Also very high value compared to the quality and taste. The service was a mess.
I think most of the people their is for the name. I won’t go back there again.
I have never written a negative review for a restaurant in my 31 years of being on this earth, until now. This restaurant was that bad I had to write a review for this awful place.
I reserved a table for two for valentines day with my girlfriend at 6:45 pm. The restaurant is next to the hotel check-in counter for the Marriott, so it was loud since so many guests checking in. The hostess ended up seating us smack-dab in the middle of the restaurant, the loudest area. When I politely asked my waiter if I could be re-seated, he simply said that was not possible, even though there was a large seating section in the corner that had nobody.
My girlfriend and I ordered the $47 dollar-a-piece Valentines Day special (five courses w/champagne). Bread and water came quickly. Then...we waited 30 min for 1st course. During those 30 min, we were never asked how we're doing. Finally, a manager arrived with the first course, a spoonful of pork-belly on a bed of polenta. No apologies for the wait. Original waiter was nowhere to be seen. ANOTHER 30 minutes went by and a different waiter, who absolutely reeked of BO (like the worst BO i've ever experienced at a restaurant), brought us the third course (a lemon sorbet). ...Wait...why are we getting the 3rd course before the second course? We were able to flag down our original waiter and asked him why this happened? He said that's how it was supposed to be (it wasn't, I checked), and walked away. 2nd course (soup) came 20 min later, the soup was actually delicious, but main entree popped in 5 min after the soup arrived (obvs we weren't ready for it). Main entrees returned after 20 min, and my prime rib was well-done (I had ordered med rare). Asked the original waiter for new one, came out immediately and was cold (didn't even take away the old prime rib). Girlfriend's lobster was not seasoned. Another 40 minutes before dessert. In total we spent 2 hrs 45 min there. Complained to manager, they did nothing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!
Food was ok. Service was below a standard I would have expected for an upscale restaurant. 2 of the staff acted like they would rather not be there. Our main waitress was friendly enough but new to the restaurant and did not appear to have been trained in how an upscale restaurant service should be. It was unfortunate but this is our third time to this restaurant and service and food have always been sub par. Our mistake was waiting too late for a valentine night reservation and this was the only restaurant with space available at the time we needed to make a nearby show.
We had tickets to a show nearby and limited eating options due to Valentine’s Day. Our waitress gets a pass because it was her first night, and she was fine. The rest of the staff and service was unorganized, slow, spilling drinks, food and plates everywhere within our view. One couple was literally given a champagne bath. We arrived at 5pm and it wasn’t busy yet, so a crowd wasn’t the cause. Food came out of the kitchen slowly, and some food and drinks were not delivered until we asked. Food was mediocre, decor was very dated. I chalk it up to poor management and training, and the experience was so bad that it became laughable.
Nice restaurant and nice staff. My pork chop was overcooked but everything else was delicious.
It took over 15 minutes for a server to come to the table.
Then, our drinks, appetizer, and entrees all arrived at the same time.
The food and drink were decent. The service was a little slow.
Food was great, but glasses and silverware were ALL dirty. Waiter was very nice and did a good job, but he was overloaded beyond our table.
We have been going every year for 5 years and always love it. We recommend it to everyone. This years menu was by far the best we have had. The service is always wonderful too! Thanks
Our mashed potato fritters were excellent and our server was wonderful. Our steaks topped with crab were really not good at all. I couldn’t eat my steak and my potatoes were just okay. My daughter’s bbq pasta was also really not good. Even the presentation wasn’t done well. I wouldn’t choose to eat here again for dinner.
Perfect from start to finish. From the valet parking the car to the front desk to the staff at Metropolitan KC to Linda, my wonderful housekeeper. The management group should be very proud.
The food was okay. Not worth the price. We were one of three tables there. 2 of them with only 2 people. It took us 35 minutes to get drinks after we ordered and our food was already at the table at that point. Food was about a 4 of 10. We had steak and lobster pasta. Okay food, but really unreasonable service for a sophisticated dining experience.
Overall a very average experience.
Great food, beautiful atmosphere, just ok service. The waitstaff seemed almost bothered to serve us.
When traveling, my usual plan is to avoid hotel restaurants. I have found that they typically offer bland food and mediocre service. Imagine my surprise to come across the Metropolitan at the downtown Marriott. My wife and I came here for Restaurant Week a few years ago and found a hidden gem (although hidden in plain sight). We have returned for other meals, including Mother's Day brunch and dinner before a stage performance at the Music Hall. Each time we have been impressed with the food and the service. The burger for lunch is quite good, as is their weekday lunch buffet. For dinner the BBQ Salmon and Warm Carrot Cake are excellent. Parking is easy below the hotel and the restaurant will validate for 2 hours parking.
Sadly, the meal took over an hour to serve. The prime rib ordered “medium rare” was served well done. The server was very kind, but kitchen did not do their job.
The food was great, everything we had was wonderful. The view of was really nice as well. As a place to eat before or after a show at the Music Hall is worked out great.
BEST STEAK WE HAVE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME AND IN COMPARISON TO POPULAR AND WELL KNOWN STEAK PLACES!
First time visitor so was not sure what to expect. Seems like they want to be an upscale restaurant but they are not. Menu was too limited for my taste and a bit pricey for what they offered. probably will not return.
This is perfect for before a performance at Music Hall. Service and food were great.
Good location for an excellent pre-theater meal. You even get a discount with your theater tickets.
The food is good to average overall. It is very convenient if you are going to an event downtown and is easy to get reservations.
I was a little put off by the "barbeque salmon." However, it was really good! There is just a glaze of barbeque sauce on the salmon -- very tasty! My friend and I ate there before going to see a performance of "Hamilton" and were very impressed with the service and the food. Neither of us had had mashed cauliflower before and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We ate at metropolitanKC prior to a performance at the Music Hall. The waiter was very attentive to our time frame and made sure we ordered, were served and paid on a timely basis. Two of our party opted for the prime rib dinner special; both enjoyed the meal even though the prime rib was cooked a little darker than they preferred. The other two enjoyed the bbq salmon and the portobello mushroom 'steak.'
Overall, the meals were well prepared and enjoyed. We will likely return prior to another Music Hall performance.
Too expensive for parking if just eating at restaurant.
We had a reservation for 5 and were seated at side by side booths. We waited 45 minutes for our orders of sandwiches and salads. Halfway into our wait, a waiter seated another party at our second table and forced our party to squish into one booth. The wait was terrible. The food was ok. The service was not good.
We were going to see Hamilton at the Music Hall and decided to try your restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised to find a good restaurant in the area. Food, service and atmosphere were very good. We plan on returning.
Food was good , service was just ok , not busy so should be better service !
The food was amazing and our waiter was wonderful. Will definitely be going back!
Excellent food and service while we were there. Nice prices and good value.
Excellent experience. Food was delicious. Wonderful selection. Only tasted a few but felt selection matched price. Staff & service were exceptional. We were seated immediately. Staff was friendly, courteous and professional. It was a great experience!
