Milwaukee Sail Loft
It was a great day to be out on the water. Unfortunately the service was VERY slow. Waited to order. A half hour after ordering, waitress returned to say they were out of something. We didn’t want to hold everything else up so didn’t order a replacement. Food came about an hour after ordering and the item they were out of miraculously appeared. No attempt was made to make anything better. Probably won’t return.
Very good food. Didn’t like that entree didn’t come with a side or fries, etc. you have to buy a side with your main entree. Example: I got the lobster roll but it didn’t come with fries. Great place thought definitely will go back!
We were a bit reluctant based on the mixed reviews compounded by the whole Co-Vid Terror Theatre in Milwaukee thing, but the experience couldn't have been better. We reserved through Open Table. We arrived a half-hour early anticipating time to have a drink before being seated and the host John welcomed us warmly and offered us our table or the option of waiting at the bar. We hit the bar for a drink and a few minutes later were met by the rest of our party. About 15 minutes later, John casually came over and said our table was ready whenever we were. Very laid back. We opted to share some small plates (crab cakes and bacon wrapped scallops) as appetizers and they were fantastic. The entree's were exceptional. Tremendous flavor, prepared perfectly. The food experience was deivered by our server, Maddie, who was, quite probably, one of the best restaurant servers I have ever had, anywhere. She was polite, friendly and exceptionally attentive. She actively watched over the tables in her station; coffee & water refills, food delivery and plate clearing all perfect. The entire dining experience was excellent, friendly and enjoyable from the moment we walked in the door and met John to departing, when two or three additional staff pro-actively thanked us for coming as we were on our way out. Excellent experience.
Ver good service, food was great. The view of the river was awesome. Thanks!
Awesome food and experience!
Nice, casual atmosphere with a good location on the water. The food was excellent. We all had different seafood entrees and they all were delicious. The service was outstanding!
Very nice place, location and food! Enjoyed the experience.
The food and the service was amazing! The view was breathtaking. Will definitely be back
Sunday night dinner, food was not worth the money. Wanted lobster roll but was told they didn't have any. Ordered the fried oyster Po' Boy, first oyster was good, second was chewy. Didn't finish the sandwich which also seemed to be on a hot dog bun.
Had res for 7pm on Sat in March.
They were out of mussels when we sat down, which was going to be an app or dinner.
Had to adjust.
Didnt seem like they were busy that day or night, as we parked right in front and saw tons of open seats. Maybe Friday was busier and they went through mussels then.
Good food choices - we all ordered something different and everyone was very happy with their choices. Service a little slow but worth the wait.
Great location. The food was delicious and the service was friendly, efficient and helpful
I've never been to Sail Loft for their Fish Fry, but I am so glad I did! We got the panko breaded version and the beer battered version - both were delicious. What really made us enjoy the experience was the service; our waiter was amazing. He was happy and cheerful, very helpful and patient with a table of 6 people. The orders came out quickly and everything tasted delicious. I had a great time and enjoyed good food. Could not ask for more!
Love the atmosphere and the look of the place. Food was good and service was very good, no complaints.
Great environment, wonderful staff!
My kind of place. Modern, upscale.great service, we sat at the bar.staff were friendly. Beer and alcohol selection was good. Menu was great. Had the perch fish fry and it was fabulous
There wasn't anything special about the food, it was just normal.
Nice food my girlfriend loved it
Loved it will most definitely go back and recommend friends 😀
Food was small portions for appetizers especially for the price, entree was overpriced for quantity of seafood and my fish was over cooked. Drinks were weak and pretty much tasteless. It’s always good to try different and new places but I would not return.
We went for steak and seafood to celebrate an anniversary. The food was incredible and the views of the water are beautiful during the winter.
Our server was fantastic, atmosphere was gorgeous and food was amazing 5 out of 5 for sure
Food was very good with service to match. Great view of the water. I'm looking forward to returning when I can enjoy the outdoor dining.
Food and service were good. Nice views of the lakefront. It was extremely busy when we were there (a Tuesday evening). The noise level from everyone's conversations at the bar area and at tables was deafening. Though we sat next to each other in a booth, it was still difficult to hear one another. I can't imagine how crowded and noisy it will be in the summer!
What more can we say about this secret gem? Even in the cold of winter, Sail Loft delivers as if you're sitting on the deck overlooking the river. The food is top notch and the service is great. Street parking is easy. The bar has plenty of seats. And the menu, both seafood and meat, is delicious. My wife enjoys the Friday perch, whereas I typically enjoy one of the gluten free options. We keep this on our short list!
My boyfriend and I wanted to go somewhere we had never been before for Valentine's day and found this place online. We were very impressed, and have already made plans to go back. We had the special for the night and could not have been more pleased with the food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating! We are looking forward to going back when the weather is warmer so we can take advantage of the outdoor patio. I highly recommend this place!!
Ordered the fennel pasta with scallops. Where are the scallops? My boyfriend ordered the lobster gnocchi. Good sauce. Nothing great. 2 slices of extra bread cost .75 per small slice. Dumb. Chocolate cake was great! Key lime pie was your average KLP. all and all it was an average meal. Thankfully we had a coupon. We won't be back though.
I found Milwaukee Sail Loft in Living Social. It's a hidden gem with a nice atmosphere, great food and a wonderful view. I have been there twice in the last month and a half and look forward to enjoying the food, weather and view in the summer. Definitely worth visiting.
I started visiting this location back when it was Riptide. Riptide was always mediocre at best. My first meal or two at Sail Loft were "just okay", maybe a 3.5 out of 5. I honestly hadn't visited the restaurant in a few years and was pleasantly surprised to see the new booths in the middle and the new large divider door that separated the space. On the night we went, there was a good crowd at the bar. I think I have to say that this restaurant made a comeback. The food was so good on this particular occasion that we went back a week later to see if it was truly a change. Well, happy to say that the 2nd meal was just as good as the first. I think this is a gem of a restaurant even despite Milwaukee having so many new and cool restaurants to choose from.
The garden salad, meatloaf with curried mashed potatoes, pork loin, and chicken pasta were all very good and worth coming back for. The current menu is full of great options and definitely worth checking out, either again or for the first time. I love the location by the water, even in the winter time, and am glad to see the quality of the visit match the awesome venue. Check it out!
This was the first time that I dined at Milwaukee Sail Loft. The food was excellent with lots of variety. The waitress was energetic and very attentive. Would definitely come back.
It was our first time dining at Milwaukee Sail Loft & I was a bit disappointed. I was surprised there was no bread for diners while they wait for their meal. Also I was shocked that only 2 scallops came with my entree when my fiance (whose entree was the same price) received a plate full of seafood (scallops, shrimp, fish, about 8 mussels, and more). Mine looked pretty pathetic in comparison and the sauce (Pecan crusted scallops) was very runny, could have been a bit thicker. There was only about 4 pieces of spinach. I've gotten 3 similar size scallops at fine restaurants as an appetizer for half the price as my entree, needless to say while the food was good I was left feeling hungry-not a good sign. Not sure we'll return.
One of my favorite patio restaurants. We started with the crab cakes, very good not to bready or fishy tasting. The entrees we ordered were shrimp tacos and fish fry. Both were very good. Would like to try the brunch sometime.
Enjoyed dinner with my parents on the patio. There weren't a lot of people seated outdoors, so it was pretty quiet. My parents ordered the Fried Fish and Fish Tacos. I ordered the Guda Burger (the specialty burger of the week/month). Both fish dishes were really good. The Guda Burger was ok - it could have used some salt and pepper before being cooked. The price for everything was very reasonable.
I would recommend going else where and saving your time/money for a more deserving business
we were excited to try out Sail Loft since it opened recently. The location is great and it is nice to have a new place on the water way. But we were disappointed from the start. The bar was filled with 3 extremely drunk bachelor/bachelorette parties, but figured it would be fine since it was nice out and we were sitting on the deck.
But the disappointment continued, the drink menu is terrible for a city like milwaukee that is filled with great microbrew options. They carry the standard fare of cheap college life beer. There were limited specialty drinks too. The food was par with the bar options with tasteless cut rate quality and options.
We try many Friday fish frys every year and have a few that we find unusually good and therefore go back again. We really like the food at the Sail Loft. The cod is beer-battered, perfectly cooked, and very crisp. The clam chowder is one of the best I've ever tried. What a great place to sit outside and watch the boat traffic.
Excellent spot for a nice lunch or dinner! Can't beat their spot on the water.
Had a most enjoyable dinner August 6th at a table for 3 outside at the water's edge. As often happens when dining out I was looking forward to I was hoping for a fish entree and by the Open Table menu there was a blackened swordfish which sounded delicious. Unfortunately I had not confirmed the item was on the menu and was diappointed it was no longer served. As I had salmon a couple days previous and it being the only other fish option I ordered a burger. Wait staff (we had 2 young ladies as one was just being trained) who gave us excellent service. All 3 of our party enjoyed our meals with perfect weather for an evening outside. Will return again.
Setting was lovely. Went for a romantic birthday dinner. We sat outside, along the river. Started our meal with artichoke dip and bacon wrapped scallops, which were quite nice. Our entrees, flat iron steak with garlic mashed potatoes & asparagus and seafood diablo were superb. Steak was cooked to perfection, and seafood diablo had just the right amount of heat.
Even though there was a large party inside, our food arrived promptly and our waiter was attentive.
On the downside, the outside seating is on the walking path for the river, and several non-diners, some with pets were walking through the outside tables.
We love going here! It's always quiet and are able to sit immediately if we wanted to.
Loved the view...great decor. Great drinks-Food was not what we expected for menu but a great variety
