   We were really looking forward to this dinner- and it was underwhelming at best. The portions are OBSCENE but the food isn’t good. For the price tag, we felt we had better lobster ravioli at the Olive Garden. The Pear salad was overwhelming with taste and everything just felt flat. We hated our dinner from start to finish. It’s overpriced for what it is. Not worth the trip.

   Food and service were outstanding. Very tight small place inside, but they make it work pretty well. One of the best places I have been in the Asheville area. We will definitely eat there again.

   We had an amazing experience here! We hit some traffic and were running late for our reservation and they were extremely accommodating for us. Our server Darren was awesome and had some great recommendations for us. They’re seafood is very high quality and tasty, our server told us they get it from Charleston and we can confirm being Charleston locals! Drinks, food, service was all top tier! We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

    Lovely old world charm and service. The burrata wrapped in prosciutto was a lovely balance of salty and sweet. Our pizza perfectly baked pepperoni and pepperonchini was fabulous.. don’t miss the tirimisu with a little crackle of chocolate toffee!!!

    The restaurant is cozy and nicely decorated. Our dinners were among the best we have had at Italian restaurants. The server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

    No reasonably priced wine. Food quality was poor; dishes very atypical for name, eg bolognese nothing like any we’ve ever had. We are all foodies; son is a chef in DC. We won’t be back.

    Wonderful restaurant. We are locals snd we have fined here many times. The food and service are always excellent. The menu changes frequently, with seasonal vegetables and fabulous seafood, so we always look forward to coming back.

    Food was excellent and delicious. Portions were quite substantial. Restaurant is small and seating area is very tight and can be a bit noisy. Was surprised to see it so busy this time of year but that is a testament to how good it is.

    Had a fantastic experience . Started out with our reservation being delayed but the host was great in letting us know she was working on getting us a table and brought us to the bar. The bartender was very courteous and professional and delivered great cocktails. We took the time at the bar to plan out our meal … which was needed as the there were many items from each coursed area we were excited to try. Our server Eli made us feel important and was great at describing the food and helping us make decisions to progress through the menu. We had the Golden Beet Salad, Scallops, Beef Carpaccio, Prosciutto Danielle, Bolognese, Lamb and Crab stuffed Striped Bass Everything was Incredible. Tiramisu for a Togo … Had an incredible experience from the first bite to the last . One of my first nights in Asheville and definitely hit all the Marks! Will be back for sure .

    OK, it was Valentine’s Day so you need to take that into consideration. The noise level was high as the tables are tightly packed together. The service was very good but I didn’t expect to get charged $5 for a small cup of marinara to go with the calamari appetizer that had a sort of vinegar sauce underneath. Didn’t enjoy that and it was a bit of over reach. I also don’t enjoy it when wait staff uses the word “we” when asking for my order, as if we’re all sitting down together for the meal. Kinda weird. Despite the crowd, the food arrived in a timely manner and was well presented. Generous portion sizes that were well presented and very tasty although both our entrees had meat (chicken in one and pork chop in the other) that was dry. The risotto was the same in each dish and very good. I would like to go back on a night that is not quite so busy and see if there’s a difference.

    $19 for a manhattan is more than I paid in Manhattan recently! Ridiculous. Make sure you have your cocktails somewhere else. Very good, knowledgeable waiter.

    We love Modesto. Great downtown location with both street and garage parking available nearby. The menu is extensive. Everything from pizza to seafood to meat. All prepared with that special Modesto touch. A few notes. $17.00 for a glass of house wine seems excessive. Fish dishes that are not filleted should either be pointed out in the menu or provided by the server. While we had an issue with a fish dish, it was handled professionally and quickly resolved. The follow on pasta dish (Bolognese) was delicious and inventive.

    Excellent service! Food was amazing! And specially I want to make a big shout out to the hostess! We arrived without reservation and she tried everything in her hands to get us in. Unfortunately the next open space was almost 3 hrs late so I made the reservation. An hr later she called me saying she got me a table!!!

    The food we had was delicious. Interesting, lovely flavors. Beautifully prepared and presented. Hostess was a bit sour, waiter was fine. And the place has a cramped feel. But we would return and as I said, the food was great (and portions were nice).

    Great dining experience. Can’t go wrong with any choice but the crab cakes were spectacular. Puttanesca was delicious. The portions are generous- you will not leave hungry. Would I recommend? Absolutely!

    As always excellent service and atmosphere. Had the veal and it was very good but a little to much salt for my taste. My wife had the mushroom pasta and it was excellent. Still one of our favorite restaurants. Make sure your hungry as the portions are large. Christian provide excellent service.

    The drinks and artichoke appetizer were delicious as was the $5 bread. However, the blacked trout was ok but nothing special. The sides were inedible due to over salting, and the mushroom risotto was undercooked and crunchy. The black drum had two filets one of which was completely burnt, the side of mixed veggies was also over salted and inedible and the lemon risotto was also undercooked. The black drum came with sliced potato which was completely burnt and again inedible. Our server was inattentive during our visit and when we mentioned that the dishes were disappointing he provided one complimentary ice cream which was good but did not offer to fix the inedible items or to have it reflected on the bill. We were celebrating our anniversary so this was a special treat for us and it was very disappointing. I would expect more when paying roughly $100 per person.

    I feel really badly for this place- it has always been great snd the owner is amazing and has amazing abilities. But. The octopus actually gave those that ate it food illness starting while still there and continued for the night. Also it was chewy and bad- and 4 years ago it was the best octopus anyone ever had! The lights are up showing the need for um updates inside, and the pizza, dough spectacular, toppings greasy and too much and just not like it was. I feel badly. I’m sure it’s because there is little qualified kitchen staff lately snd the same with service. We waited maybe 25 minutes and had finished appetizers prior to getting our drinks. It was all just weird. I would say shorten the menu to 30 things drop prices s touch and refocus on turning inventory. It all seemed ‘out of date’ as we also had crab cakes that were a mess- possibly deep fried? It was essentially a pile. The artichoke which was a former favorite as well was small and overdressed for the size. We did order bread after getting it and that was THE highlight. Delicious. We found a frond of clear green plastic in the food as well. All in all a very bad experience. It’s not what he is known for and I really hope it gets a bit of help. He deserves better from his staff. But they also need less to tackle. With almost 80 menu items and few filled seats during the week, stuff will get old.

Assumptions are really not great to base reviews on. If you were so upset about your time with us, you should have spoken to a manager. Good news: we are waiting on new updated decor that is coming in a few weeks!

    Modesto is one of my family’s favorite restaurants in Asheville. The service is phenomenal and the food is amazing, they have the best pesto I’ve ever tasted. Love that the menu changes with the seasons and has creative specials but keeps some staples. We love to come here for a great dinner or a special occasion

    Excellent service. Our waiter was attentive to our needs. The crab cakes were phenomenal. My friend raved about the lobster raviolis and scallops. I had the chicken piccata. Everything was delicious! We will be sharing this gem with fiends and family.
