Corn Risotto with Brown Sugar Cured Bacon
mascarpone | parmesan | roasted corn | tomato confit
Such nice hosts and waitstaff! Delicious food and nice atmosphere.
A phenomenal experience! We sat in the dining room area and started off with martinis, I had the Royal Purple martini with empress gin, so good! We had the short rib Street tacos as an appetizer, wow, they were incredible, so flavorful! My husband had the Moncusser burger, he loved every bite, huge burger!! I had the steak frites with the black truffle Parmesan fries, steak was tender and the fries were to die for! Our waitress was awesome and we loved chatting with her. We’ve driven by countless times are are upset we haven’t come sooner!
Jane was outstanding. Awesome meal. Quiet romantic eve. Owner was extremely friendly and told us the history.
We had a terrific meal and the atmosphere was very relaxing.
Food was delicious. Service was great. Fantastic evening !
Nice welcome. Great service. Creative menu well
Executed. Nice wine list with plenty by the glass.
Super restaurant, food, ambiance, server, and value! Definitely try it!!!
We love Mooncussers and eat there once or twice a month. We are so glad the Wisemans have managed to thrive during the pandemic. Ben, our server last night, was great, both personable and attentive. The food was amazing as usual, we had the venison stuffed quahogs and street corn for appetizers. For entrees, I had the seared tuna, hubby had the tomahawk pork chop (impressive!) and our friend had the risotto (they did not add a protein). Dessert was a special of beignets, super yummy!
My only suggestion would be to offer some poultry options from time to time.
This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that caters to locals with a few tourists who have found the great reviews and seek them out. The owner and the staff are mature adults who offer smiles, good food, and great service. The fresh seafood, that we had, was well prepared and very tasty. Our first trip, seated outside, resulted in our second trip a few days later where we sat inside and felt safe despite pandemic concerns. The staff is fully vaccinated. As visitors, we look forward to our next visit to the Cape and Mooncussers.
Everything was wonderful!
Loved everything about it!
This is a "hidden" gem. I've often passed by in travels and never ate here before but was pleasantly surprised by the food, both preparation and quality. Here the main entree stands out as the prepared dishes are straight forward as described and not messy as some chefs try to be creative. I had one of the best prepared pork chops ever, cooked perfectly and moist. Everyone else in my group raved about their meals.
Salads were very fresh and tasty. Service was well paced and attentive.
We absolutely love Mooncussers! Our bartender, Matt was super attentive and engaging. The food is always perfect. One of our favorite gems on the Cape!
Very disappointed in this visit. Servers were very pleasant, but food was very slow coming out of the kitchen.
The acoustics were horrible, making it very difficult to carry on a conversation.
Food was only so-so.
Wasn’t my first , but was certainly my worst visit.
The stuffed quahog and fish and chips special were excellent!
The best place we ate on the Cape all week. American cuisine with a twist. Highly recommend but make a reservation or you’ll be waiting awhile.
Very New England setting and excellent creative food. Always good when you see the owner going around checking in with the customers
Vacation dinner with family
William the server was awesome
We have been coming to Cape Cod for over 10 years and somehow never tried Mooncussers Tavern before. I am very sorry for the missed opportunities! The food was delicious- I had a Caprese Salad and then wild Atlantic salmon. Both were excellent. Attentive and friendly service and a really lovely space. The owners were there ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Highly recommended.
Awesome food and drinks! Will definitely be back again soon!
Love this place!! Consistently good food and wonderful service even in the midst of staffing shortages and other challenges on the cape.
Bottom line: Mooncusser’s was outstanding We had the tuna and pork chop entrees. Both were excellent, as was the service. The owners go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. It was an amazing dining experience. Highly recommended!
Overall, a pleasant experience at a restaurant that we would go back to.
As always, our meals were excellent. The tomahawk pork chop is my favorite entree on the menu. If you have never had grits (I hadn’t), the sweet potato grits with this meal are outstanding! I hope the owners never change this dish or remove it from the menu. So delicious!
Just loved the whole atmosphere, friendly staff and creative, delicious food.
Noise level was deafening. If you go, make sure you bring earplugs! Service was horrible! Took us one hour and 15 minutes to get our entrees and the pork chop was overcooked. Kept asking our waitress and the bus boy for water, never got it, we recommend the self serve because that's what we ended up doing. The worst restaurant experience we have had on the Cape, do not go!!
Excellent food and service!
The service was slow. We waited one hour before our appetizers arrived. When I asked our waiter when the food was coming , his response was “ we are very busy tonight, can’t you see”. He was rude.
The noise level was such that we couldn’t hear each other. It was also way too hot and we left before having desert.
The food was ok at best. The gazpacho had too much vinegar.
The duck was chewy and had no taste.
If those who run the restaurant are overwhelmed thy should not take so many reservations .
I would not recommend this place
This is a great old tavern, building is from the 1700's. The food was very good, different types of selections. We also stayed in the rooms above the tavern, they are cute and nice and no noise from the restaurant / bar comes upstairs.
I would recommend this restaurant for good food and a wonderful old New England atmosphere.
Got there early but it quickly filled up. Service was lovely as our waiter was attentive despite how busy he was. Top notch!
None of the staff were wearing masks. I was too embarrassed to ask if they had been vaccinated. The server stood right over us every time she came to the table, NO MASK. It felt very unsafe and reckless especially given recent Cape Cod COVID outbreak and Delta variant causing breakthrough infections. Website said they had outdoor seating but when we arrived it was not open, indoor only. We felt very uncomfortable and unsafe eating there.
We would like to respond by saying thank you for giving us 5 stars for food and are happy you enjoyed your meal. Our restaurant as most others in the area go by the CDC guidelines, also every single staff member is vaccinated. The patio was closed due to rain during the day and with rain in the forecast, without a cover, we decided to keep it closed. If you were that uncomfortable next time we suggest coming back when the patio is open or simply ask about vaccinations.
Service was slow.
Drink orders incorrect.
Had to ask three times for lemons for water.
We are regulars. Love this place and have been coming for a long time.
We had a lovely meal while nearby on vacation. We had been recommended to try the burgers, and they did not disappoint. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and just the right degree of attentive. Pleasant surroundings, and spacious dining area. Definitely recommend.
We try to visit at least once a year. Have tried the duck, pork chops and salmon. Halibut was great as well. Truffle fries and drinks are always super. Wish we lived closer.
We enjoyed our dinner at Mooncussers.
However, when I made the reservation I indicated that it was a birthday party. I said the same to the hostess as we entered. The wait staff would have ignored it if I hadn't told 2 of them. In the end we bought a dessert and they added a candle. Kind of took the fun out of the event :0(
Very enjoyable experience! We had reservations and were seated promptly, however took some time before we met our server, who initially tried to take our order, but we didn’t have menus. Took a while to get everything in order but the server was amiable and tried to keep on top of things. The wine and beer (local brewery) was good, the shrimp appetizer was a little small but tasty, good bread, I ordered the “Mooncusser’s Burger” which was really good but very messy, the hand cut fries really were hand cut and good. My dinner companion had the steak frites which was also quite good. We finished up with coffee (no spoon sadly, and the supplied sweetners included one packet each of sugar, Splenda, and that pink stuff. So overall a good experience but needs a little work on the details. That said, I would not hesitate to return.
My party of 2 had 6:30 reservation. We were seated promptly. Will was our waiter. He was friendly and attentive. He apologized for the slow drink order to arrive. We ordered the Gambas al ajillo. Three shrimp, but a nice flavorful sauce. The risotto was quite bland and no trace of lime. It needed more corn and cheese. My walnut salad was delicious. We split the chocolate lava cake which was good.
We had an enjoyable dinner but we’re very disappointed to see that our reservation did not result in dining points from OpenTable ..apparently if you begin your reservation through the restaurant but it takes you to the OpenTable site and you make the reservation there, you don’t get any dining points from Open Table. Make sure if you want the points, you go directly to Open Table to make your reservation…very disappointing
