Our waitress was fabulous!! Food good! Best service we have received in a long time!!
I think our experience suffered from the limited menu, limited hours, and limited staffing they have in place due to covid. The food was fine, but the duck was overcooked and they were out of mashed potatoes (which were the sides for all the entrees). Instead of mashed, I got au gratin potatoes, which needed salt/seasoning, and my partner got bacon Brussels sprouts, but there was no bacon. They close early (7 pm), so there were servers hovering around 6:30, despite us still eating. I ended up asking for a box so we could leave/they could close, and so I could go home and season my own food. I’d like to go back when they’re full service, but wouldn’t recommend it right now.
The experience at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant can be described as exceptional. The food arrived promptly and the food bursted with flavor. The price, though high, genuinely reflected the quality of the food, the quality of the service, and the difficulties the staff faced due to the complications generated from COVID-19.
The food and service were excellent. Our appetizers and meals were timed well, and the Filet was just like butter - so good.
We have been to Mt Vernon Inn many times. The menu selection was not what it previously had been. I suspect it was due to the limited seating & pandemic issues.
Fun, unique dining experience. The food was good, but normal American food. Nothing “special”, but still very good. Service was a little slow. We do have younger kids, so when we’re finished, we like to be able to pay and somewhat quickly leave. We were at the table 20 minutes or so between finishing and being able to leave. Not a huge deal, but the table beside us probably disagreed!!
Had three people in party and. All of our food was very good. Cheese burger was moist, the lobster roll was delicious and the chicken sandwich was very good. The waitress was attentive to most of our needs and kept the ice cold water refilled through our meal, a blessing on a hot day!!
We enjoyed our lunch! My son had the lamb appetizer and I had the lobster roll. Both were delicious! While the dishes were not our first picks off the menu, we totally understand that there was a reduced menu during the pandemic.
We brought out of town guests to eat lunch outside which was nice. We eat there often and know the service and food is usually very good but not this time. I asked for extra crispy french fries and they were barely done. Ketchup didn't come with them and my guest shared hers. The salads were good.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from this place,
But holy cow — that was the best meal I’ve had in a long time, we’ve lived in both Nashville and Chicago over the past five years, so we know what good food is.
I had the crab soup (best soup of my life), keep in mind that this is not a bisque, it’s tomato based with tons of vegetables and shredded crab. For my entree I chose the lobster roll which was refreshing on such a hot day, and equally as flavorful.
My husband grew up in New Orleans, and ordered the Jambalya — and we were SHOCKED at how authentic and delicious is was. The flavors were spot on. We also ordered the maple Brussels sprouts which were like eating candy.
Everything from the drinks (order the gin drink!!!) to dessert was absolutely divine. Best meal of our vacation!
Food and service was fantastic! My wife has celiac (gluten allergy) and they were fantastic with ensuring her food was gluten-free, ....
This restaurant is a jewel. In our travels to over 70 countries, this restaurant and the surrounding estate is one of our favorite experiences.
We brought out-of-town visitors to Mt. Vernon and enjoyed lunch at the Inn. Our waiter was excellent; very attentive and accommodating for a couple diet restrictions. Our meals were perfectly cooked and nicely presented. We would definitely return!
My husband and I ate here with our two teenage daughters after visiting the house and grounds at Mount Vernon. We made our reservation though Open Table and our table was ready at the requested time when we arrived. Our daughters each had cheeseburgers and loved them. I ordered the filet mignon and it was excellent. My husband ordered the fish of the day and said it was also very tasty. The decorations were neat and took us back in time. We ordered pies for dessert and enjoyed those as well.
Loved our waiter who was so professional and attentive. Food was delicious and a good value. Ambiance was superb!
Exceptional ambiance, decor and food. Highly recommended if you visit Mt. Vernon.
Loved the signature peanut soup! My beet salad was plentiful and delicious. Many menu choices. Period ambience a nice finish to our tour of the mansion and grounds.
We enjoyed another great lunch at Mt. Vernon with our friends visiting from Hawaii! A special shoutout goes to the staff, and especially Eva who told care! Thanks much & see you all again soon! Sincerely, Scott & Nancy Hill
Convenient spot for lunch when visiting Mt. Vernon.
Our second time dining here. Always love the decor and elegance, but the food was lacking as well as the service. Still glad I brought the family, but we will not be returning.
The kitchen was disrupted by a wedding reception in another room. Never got my soup and the food was delayed because my wife’s steak had to be recooked. The Manager adjusted the bill for our inconvenience. Food was delicious and our waitress did her best to work through the food issues.
We had reservations and were seated quickly. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. The food was amazing. It was a great experience for my out of town guests!
The food was very good. Nice ambiance. Food took some time to be served though. Flourless chocolate cake was fantastic.
Excellent service and meal for a special valentine lunch.
The dining experience at the Mount Vernon Restaurant was exceptional in all respects. Tracey, the hostess, was cordial and attentive. Victor, the server, is a role model for other servers. The dinners were delicious. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening!
We had heard of Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant and always wanted to try it so we finally did. We made a 7:15 reservation and arrived about 3-5 minutes ahead of our reservation. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our table, as we understood from our hostess that they had to set up a table for us, which was disappointing as we made a reservation and when we went to our table we walked past 2 open tables. The hostess also made a comment about how they were waiting for us to arrive. We were sat next to the bar area so it was pretty loud as compared to the noise level in the other room. We knew we wanted to order a glass of wine, so one person at our table gave their drink order and the waitress walked away immediately and did not give anyone else a chance to order a drink. When we informed the waitress that others at the table had wanted to order wine as well, she started laughing which was a bit off-putting as we were annoyed that she had not asked if anyone else wanted anything. She did eventually apologize for making that mistake. We ordered the Fruit & Cheese plate which was very good! I had the Filet Mignon which was excellent. We also ordered the Salmon and really liked it. We ordered the fish of the day which was Mahi Mahi and was disappointed as it was very bland. Overall I liked the design of the restaurant and thought the wallpaper was pretty and pleasant to look at and the majority of our food was decent. Our experience and service was disappointing. Not sure if we will ever return.
Over the years, I have enjoyed Mt. Vernon as a nice dinner venue. However, probably for good business reasons, they seem to have changed the menu to focus tourists with a lunch/dinner menu with much less than the expected gourmet selections. The Sirloin steak was adequate sirloin but the expectation was restaurant quality meat. I have had better at Outback. The brisket was very disappointing as well. I have always raved about the beef and now will not try it again. If you are visiting and want a place to sit down and have a drink and an overpriced sandwich, I guess I would recommend it for that.
Mount Vernon Inn is predictable-not great, but not bad either. The food is usually over salted, so taste it before adding any. Prices are a bit high and service is slow. but there is not much competition in the area now that Cosmopolitan has gone to Old Town.
The server did an excellent job handling our party of seven. Food was very good. Broad menu selection allowed everyone to find something they liked.
Wait person was very attentive, prompt and gracious.
Atmosphere …. always great.
The food here has never disappointed in quality and quantity. This evening I had the beet salad and it was delicious. The atmosphere is warm and service was excellent - the waitress asked if we were going to attend an evening Book Talk so that she could be sure to get us out in time. Little touches make a difference.
Virginia peanut soup is to die for. We will certainly go again.
I like the idea of going to the Mount Vernon Inn, I want it to be good, and I am a member of Mount Vernon. My experience has been that the food has been fine, but I'm never too excited about it. The service on our most recent visit, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020 was not very good. For those reasons I would tell a friend that the atmosphere is good, but the food and service are not that good.
We had lunch at the Mount Vernon Inn on a very quiet Monday. Our lunch order came to our table really quickly, before our drinks were served. The drinks menu is not complete, so you have to know Vienna Lager is on tap.
We had a lovely table near a window, the food was delicious, and we had a leisurely lunch. I had the Waldorf chicken salad; my husband had the club sandwich.
Lovely tavern style setting and food. Our waitress was very nice and accomodating. I would definitely go back. We were there for lunch and the house was closed for renovations so we got a reservation easily.
We tried the salmon, burger and steak salad and were all very pleased with our meals. We will definitely go back!
love the restaurant...stay about from the beef dishes. Everything else was excellent
Our office has been wanting to have lunch at Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. We finally did and enjoy the service, food and atmosphere so much. We are looking forward to having lunch there again.
I’d like to see Creme’ Brûlée on the menu.
I’d dine more often if it was an offering.
The service, the food, the setting, and the value were all very good.
