Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant
Everything was great except we were seated in the bar area. Been going there for 20 years now to celebrate my anniversary. Next time I will request one of the many other areas to eat there. This was our first time seated in the bar area, and a lot of the charm was lost.
Food portions over generous-almost too much to eat so prepare to bag some home. Crusted chicken prepared very well and hamburger was juicy. Corn bread very tasty and way too much for one person to eat. No room for dessert after the meal.
We had a great experience, though the original food we ordered was not available so the waitress had to come back to us and ask us to choose something different. Menu a little over priced due to location, but the food we did get was excellent.
We love this place. As usual the service was excellent and the meal was fantastic. The waitress was attentive and had a great personality.
A nice way to finish visit to Mt Vernon. Quaint, and delicious food with attentive service. LOVED the cornbread, Turkey pot pie. Wife love the Brussels sprouts.
we were celebrating my bday. I was running late and i asked my friends to order the fried chicken I had it before at dinner service. They read the menu I asked for the fried chicken sandwich but I wanted a bread and breaded. they ordered this to the waitress that was lousy. When I arrived I ordered the butter nut squash soup. Well they brought the lunch and soup all together 1st mistake. 2nd Mistake the soup was tasteless.. horrible.. when I saw my sandwich it was not a bread it was a chicken cutlet. and it was not breaded it was fried. I returned it and I asked the waitress who seem to be new african lady and I told her I want a breast breaded and fried that is what a fried chicken is? she took it back and the cook just re fried in oil. it was hard as a sole and terrible. We told the waitress our disappointment she never offered to bring a manager or help.
I am not going to support this restaurant again.. I have family coming over and planned to offer that place.
Is too expensive, they don't understand the orders, managers don't come to assist customer and the food and service was bad.
The food was wonderful and the ambiance was nice. A little busy where we were seated by the to go pickup table.
The service was fairly slow, much slower than usual when we dine here. Also, the food was not as good as previous visits. The Turkey pot pie was almost like eating soup, instead of the thick, creamy texture one would expect, and is usually the way it comes out. The soups were a little cold as well. But the skillet cornbread was amazing!!
Our food was delicious! Service was excellent. Our server, Fiona, was a delight! Charming atmosphere. Only complaint was too much food!
Great atmosphere (even had a person in a Colonial costume playing music at one point). Menu had lots of great options, but a little pricey (which is fair, given the location). Food tasted great. My only minor complaint was that the soups and main meals were served lukewarm instead of hot, so everything got cool very quickly.
Every visit to the Mt Vernon Inn is a delight. We often bring out of town guests after touring George Washington’s estate. The ambiance takes you to the past and you feel relaxed almost immediately. There are several rooms, each with a different feel. This visit was just my husband and me and it was dinner before attending a lecture at the relatively new library on the grounds. We started with the Fried Green tomatoes, topped with Mozzarella. I ordered the blackened fish of the day with a chimichurri sauce. It was tasty, but cooked just a bit too long. My husband ordered Duck a l’orange and reported it was delicious. The menu is seasonal and we’ll return soon.
We ordered the fried green tomatoes and they came out Luke-warm. We should have returned, but didn't.
My friend had the roasted chicken. Both of us have had that before and the quality of the chicken was poor. Having eaten here many times, it appeared the kitchen was overwhelmed and the food preparation not as good as usual.
Hoping the next visit will be better😊
Good for families & retirees. My Salmon BLT sandwich was outstanding
I would definitely come back. Great menu selection. Shrimp and Grits were delicious.
We arrived 15-20 min early and the lady managing seating of the guest was very rude when we checked in. We were seated in an area that made me feel like we were moved from the dining room to the kitchen with the children (we were dressed very nice). You could see in the other dining area was displayed nicely with table cloths and a well trained waiting staff. Our seating environment table was baron and displayed like a pizza joint. With my wife and I getting ready to spend well over $100 on a meal with appetizers and wine for two we felt it was more like a hamburger restaurant environment at our table. Our waiter could hardly speak English and was very difficult to understand. I see no reason to pass up other restaurants to dine here. A very disappointing evening.
We were hot and tired after a very full and very enjoyable day at Mount Vernon. We were taken 15 minutes early into a very cool, inviting, period small dining area. The service, food, and value were very good. The unsweetened iced tea was excellent! This was the second time dining at the inn and there will definitely be a third!
The food was very good but we were very rushed by the staff. It wasn't even a busy day but it seemed they were more interested in freeing up the table than us enjoying our meal. Our entrees arrived 4 to 5 minutes after our appetizers/soup so we didn't have time to enjoy. Total time seated 45 minutes.
Excellent colonial food in a beautiful atmosphere. Service was great & menu choices were varied
THE SETTING AND FOOD WERE VERY GOOD. I WISH THE SERVER HAD PAID MORE ATTENTION TO WHAT WE AKED FOR. WE WANTED THE CORN BREAD FIRST, AS A NIBBLE WHILE WE WAITED FOR OUR FOOD. EVERYTHING CAME OUT AT THE SAME TIME AND AT THAT POINT MY GUESTS CONCENTRATED ON THEIR MEAL AND WE WOUND UP TAKING THE CORN BREAD HOME. THEY
ALSO TRIED TO CLEAR OUR PLATES SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE SOME OF US WERE STILL WORKING ON OUR FOOD.
After an extensive tour of Mount Vernon, the Inn was a perfect setting to finish the day, especially on Friday afternoon when DC/Virginia traffic can be a challenge. Recommend dining on the porch when the weather is good.
The Mount Vernon Inn is a delightful dining experience. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the food is delicious. The crab cakes are exceptional and the warm apple pie is a must for dessert.
Tremendous value. Excellent food, caring service, and a lovely ambiance. We will certainly be dining there many times going forward.
It was a nice place to have lunch. The ambiance was just the right touch for Mt Vernon. The peanut soup was very good. The vanilla flavored butter with the cornbread was a nice touch. I had never tried either the soup or that particular flavored butter . I like to have some familiar food items along with others I may have not eaten before. Thanks
The food is delicious and the atmosphere is sublime. You will feel as though you've stepped back in time for dinner at Washington's. Do be aware of the prices, they're not ruinous but not cheap either, and for heaven's sake order the duck!
Great part of our Mount Vernon visit. The food was great and our waiter provided excellent customer service. We made reservations and were quickly seated when we arrived early.
Really like the menu variety here, and better value than some of the comparable Northern Virginia area restaurants. Especially liked our server who was able to get us a quieter table away from the fairly noisy bar area. Thanks! The appetizer, main course, and dessert were all very tasty.
Great Local Historic Site, worth the trip for a tasty meal in a beautiful setting. Menu had plenty of tasty selections at fair prices. Good wines available if required.
Excellent food and service! I would recommend adding it to your things to do at Mount Vernon.
Feasted on pre meal treats like Mac and cheese, three hummus, hard to finish main course.
All four of us enjoyed our meal.
This was our first time at this restaurant. Overall, a great experience and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The decor seemed appropriate for the venue, although the flowers were plastic.
My spouse and I shared the Jambalaya and had a slice of cherry pie for dessert. The meal was fabulous, the service warm and attentive and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The view was superb as we were at the grounds of the First President of the United States' home. This was a meal to remember!
Fantastic selection of southern and plantation foods at great prices. Peanut soup is a must try or the soup trio.
Definitely would recommend the restaurant. Has a real colonial feel and delicious choices. We also felt the food was very well prepared and inexpensive. I had the small Caesar Salad and my husband had the peanut soup, both delicious. The peanut soup was really good. We ordered the corn bread and that also was outstanding. We both went for comfort foods and we ordered the meatloaf stuffed with cheese and spinach and wrapped in bacon served with delicious mashed potatoes. Yes it is delicious and definitely worth the calories. The service was very good. We had spent the day at Mount Vernon so dinner at the Mount Vernon Inn was a really good way to end our very nice day. Whether or not you spend the day at Mt. Vernon or just have dinner at the restaurant I think you will really enjoy your experience.
We use to live in the area and enjoyed taking family and friends to the restaurant. We try to enjoy the inn every time we get back into town. Always a pleasure!
Ate here with my wife for her birthday. We had dined here previously, but that was many years ago.
The tables are too close to each other, so one cannot have a private conversation. It was too noisy. Table next to us had a kid that was making noise and running around. While the service was OK, the food was bland. We both had the butternut squash soup, but it was served lukewarm. My wife had the chicken, which she said was OK, I had the meatloaf. The meatloaf was not very hot and tasted VERY bland.
The prices were good, but I guess you do get what you pay for.
Won't be dining here anytime soon.
Enjoyed restaurant very much. Fried chicken was good.
I ordered the Soup Sampler Trio and would recommend it. The peanut and water chestnut soup is out of the ordinary and very delicious. I also enjoyed the Wedge Salad with their homemade Bleu Chesse Dressing. The coffee was was blah and I would avoid it
Food was great and service was excellent! We were very happy with our food selections.
The soup trio was delicious. I could eat this everyday.
The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive.
