Beet salad and mousaka were delicious. Service was perfect. Virus precautions were perfect.
Attentive staff, quick but not rushed service and great food. Temperature was perfect and music wasn’t too loud... overall a great option though certainly not your cheapest meal. That said serving size is ample and food was great.
They are completely disorganized. Nobody ever came to our table for the first 30 minutes. When they did get our drink order, it took forever to get a cocktail. Then, when we placed our food order - it came out sparadically. We had to get up to find some napkins and flatware - as they were never brought to the table. Avoid this restaruant at all costs - they had no right to open with all of the flaws.
Our first visit. A pleasant surprise. We will definitely return.
Very Disappointing. One glass of wine tasted like vinegar but was replaced. We had only just started the Pikilia when the main course was served. The salmon was so dry and served on a base of just a pile of lentils. As we had an opera to go to we did not have time to send it back.
We used to go to Nemea quite frequently but haven't been there for the last year. I found the food to be smaller portions than before and the flavors more bland. The lemon chicken soup no longer has a lemon tang, and the spanakopita no longer has that tangy spinach taste, and the terramasalata (sp?) has very little flavor at all. I suggest they liven up the kitchen again.
Sadly, the beautiful setting and pretty fair service are negated by the absolute mediocrity of the food. Two stars was generous; I would not willingly go back. Not disgusting, just prepared without any flair and sort of tasteless.
Super delicious! A little pricy and not big portions but outstanding quality. The bread is on point too. Fancy decor, great service, good ambiance. The cocktails were good! Beef medallions the best I ever had. Pasta with shrimp had depth, layers of flavor. Octopus appetizer scrumptious! Well built Greek menu I could not pronounce but I liked the authenticity. Will definitely go back. Need to try the Greek wine....
Great food, very kind but not too experienced server. Other servers (than ours) “helping out” and making classic mistakes, such as forgetting the appetizer and taking back our main course, only to set it aside and bring it back cold. The mrg and our server nicely correcting the mistake... still... not as good as the otherwise excellent seabass and mousaka. The prawns appetizer was just ok, but the smoked eggplants was fantastic.
Always great service and nice ambiance. My wife and I have been here numerous times over the years and really love the food. We tried a stuffed mushroom in cheese sauce appetizer and it was delicious. My wife loves their beet salad and I love the lamb chops. It was a nice Valentines weekend.
We've been to Nemea several times and the food is always good - not great - but good. I would certainly recommend the restaurant based on the food. The service is the problem. It is always hit or miss with service. This last Saturday night at Nemea we were seated promptly and then waited for a server. About 7 minutes later a server came and asked if we wanted to order. We said that we'd like a cocktail first. Cocktails arrived in a timely fashion and then dinner was ordered (mushroom risotto (okay) chicken souvlaki (very good)). Dinner came and then we didn't see our server again (30 minutes). We had a show to go to and we had to flag down a busser to find our server to hurriedly get our bill.
Poor service just changes the total feel of a restaurant. They need to improve their service.
For a Valentine's Day set menu, the food was lacking in so many areas. I think their quality of food and their prices are far out of sync. Disappointed and my waiter was very hasty and unaware of social cues. He took my plates away and I was still trying to finish my food.
Service was really bad and portion too small for 85 dollars a person! Don't go there on special occasions!!
Very expensive for the quality of the food. Would not go back.
Valentines’ day pris fixe dinner: my husband and I chose memea as we love Greek food! Overall we were disappointed with the quality of the food - 1st course: pita did not appear to be “homemade”, like any other toasted bread, dips were varied and very good. 2nd course: salad nice looking, but not well seasoned and my husband’s phyllo appetizer just ordinary. 3rd course (entree) I chose grilled lamb chops - superb; my husband’s beef and mushroom Shish kebab - beef not tender and not generous portion. Dessert selections - just okay. I wanted to like this restaurant since I feel sorry for restaurants struggling in this area of downtown San Jose. Our waiter was very good however - attentive and personable. Unfortunately will go back to this restaurant. Disappointed....
Reserved for Valentines dinner but not informed of price fix menu. Waiter did not know the menu and did not understand it himself despite being simple menu. Starting dish did not come out, and when we pointed this out we were treated as if we were not telling the truth. My entree arrived (beef souvlaki) and was raw inside, barely seared. My wife and I both had the baklava and seemed as though it had been frozen. The meal was highly overpriced, small portion (my souvalki came with 3 pieces of beef, onions and mushrooms). I was highly disappointed by this performance. It was my wife and my favorite restaurant until this visit.
Food was good. They didn’t have the wine we ordered. Service was acceptable. Switched waiters on us. Didn’t offer tap water as a choice initially, only bottled water.
Service was very good - some people needed to be out by 1 (we arrived at noon) and they were accomodating. Restaurant wasn't busy so noise level was low. Food was just okay. We had the baba ghanoush and hummus appetizers which were small portions compared to the price, but tasted fine - not special. Bread and pita was fresh and very good. I had the lamb burger which I didn't like that much. It had a little gamey taste and I didn't like the texture of the burger - felt like the meat was over processed. I've eaten here before and loved the food, but this was my first time having the burger which the waiter recommended over the lamb gyro. I wouldn't order it again. I've had lamb burgers at other establishments that were tasty and juicy without being gamey.
The service was absolutely horrendous. Our main course was not delivered and there was no update from the waiter. After waiting for a long time, the waiter made some excuse that one of the dish is taking longer to cook. Most likely, he forgot to add it to the queue. And when the food came, the dish did not taste good.
Horrible experience. I will not recommend Nemea to a friend, and will also tell them not to go here.
The food at Nemea is good but the service lacks. The white wine by the glass I ordered hadn't been chilled so I had to select an alternate. I had to ask for water 3 times at the bar. There wa a long black hair in our water at the dinner table. Our food was delayed because a table of 20 had ordered before us.
On the positive, their octopus is always excellent. The lamb chops were very tender and not overly seasoned with salt (a positive) but they were on the far side of medium-rare - barely pink center. Overall, not the service expected for almost $300 for two people for cocktails, wine, and dinner and shared appetizer.
It's a comfortable atmosphere with superb service and the best lamb chops I've ever had!
Hi Stephen, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review! We are glad you enjoyed the lamb and we hope to have you back soon!
Lovely location for downtown SJ theaters. Food needs more spice, flavors.

Great food - awesome venue - nice energy
Hi Chris, We really appreciate your kind words and the time you took to leave a review. Thanks for coming in and we hope to see you again soon!
Service was slow when we were there. Quality of the food was also disappointing given the price. Acceptable is about all I could say.
Overall a great experience. Our friends really enjoyed it there. I got the octopus appetizer, which is always good. Although I don’t think the pricing is outrageous, it didn’t seem comparable with other restaurants targeting same food/service customers.
Food was very good. Had the sampler platter and the zucchini cakes for appetizers. Zucchini cakes were excellent. Bread came with a dipping sauce which was also excellent. Shared Mediterranean Sea Bass entree. The accompanying potatoes were very good but we thought the braised greens were too salty and overly oily (olive oil). We also shared the lamb shank. The meat was tender and flavorful. The spicing & jus of the accompanying orzo was a little too sweet for us. Service was excellent. Decor was very thoughtful and tasteful. Restaurant is conveniently located to downtown entertainment venues and parking. The light rail runs right by the restaurant which would be ideal to take if you lived in the area.
Enjoyed a great dinner with 4 friends before we headed down to the CA Theatre for a performance of “The Red Violin.” Loved the food, especially because we could order small plates to share. We had tasty stuffed mushrooms in a delicious sauce, fried calamari with yummy aioli, a delicious beet salad, with several more small plates. The service was impeccable and they took care to get us out in time for our performance. Nemea is spacious and beautifully decorated. It was quiet at our 5:30 seating so we could converse together and actually hear each other. I plan to return when dining downtown in San Jose again.
Hi Christine, We really appreciate your kind words and the time you took to leave a review. We look forward to your next visit! Thank you!
Excellent venue in the middle of Downtown San Jose. Interior is very nicely done. The wait staff was very attentive. The dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. A little on the costly side, but, over all, well worth it.
Hi Timothy, We really appreciate your kind words and the time you took to leave a review. We hope to see you again soon!
Service was poor. First they ignored us for a good 20 minutes Then they removed our bread plates after our appetizers while some of us were still eating bread. Followed serving us our main entre and salads at the same time. We forgo the salads and ate the main dish. They need to get their act together.
Everything was soaked in oil or dressing. Greek salad was drenched in dressing. There was like a cup of dressing in the bottom. Do the cucumber and tomatoe were just limp. The fried calamari was soaked in oil. So the breading just fell off. Had the beef fillet which was fine but it was topped with some orange aioli.
We arrived at 6 and ordered as soon as we sat down. Drinks were nice. They asked if we had somewhere to be after and we said we were going to a show and had to be out by around 6:55. At 7 we left having never been served our food. There were about 6 tables occupied. I was looking forward to the food but never got it.
Great service and food!
Service was excellent and engaged. Our server provided great recommendations for cocktails, food, and wine.. The saganaki and octopus appetizers were excellent. The lamb chops were out of this world! The portion was generous and perfectly prepared. The desert was perfectly balanced and provided an exclamation point on a great meal.
Hostess could not find our Reservation. I advised that I placed the Reservation via Open Table and confirmed the Reservation the day before. Hostess went ahead and seated us.
Other than the issue with the Reservation, everything was very good.
Appetizer portions are tiny. Eggplant spread was good, but the spanakopita was just OK. Service was slow to nonexistent; about 30 minutes after we order our waiter came back and told us our order was never entered, and that he had forgotten what we ordered. Lamb shank was just average.
Horribly loud due to a huge private party in the dining room. We should have sat in the bar area. Portions are very small, shrimp was overcooked. Also, I get annoyed with the gratuity charge for our party of six...we would have tipped more if we were able to decide.
We found the entrees to be very expensive so we each opted for salad and appetizer. It’s disappointing to
go out and scale back your order and still not be able to get out for less than $100
The food was quite good with the exception of the galaktobouriko. There was next to no custard in it - mostly phyllo. Very disappointing as it is one of my favorite desserts. I would not recommend it at all.
For the charges with gratuity included, one would expect the service to be good. The server seemed either not interested or not knowledgeable about what was available when we asked for recommendations. He did not even inquire whether we liked the food, so much that we had to tell him after that one of the dishes was not good. Even then, he was like, okay, sorry you did not like and that was it.
