Diners visit a restaurant for the chef’s twist on the dish. The Spicy Madras Tamarind Chicken and Lemon Mustard Cauliflower are some of the flavorful and popular dishes. I understand it may not fit an individual’s personal taste. Next time, please let us know so we can tweak the dishes, since we visit your table multiple times while dining.

   The overall experience was splendid! For my special entreé, their presentation was impeccable, and the spices were just right, as well as its spice level. Masala chai was the boldest ever! The service went well from start to finish. Might come again in a later future.

Interestingly, the historic dining hall where you enjoyed your meal, is mostly unchanged since it was built over 100-years ago. It is a pristine example of the Beaux-Arts style of architecture prevalent in San Francisco at the time, and one of the reasons the City of San Francisco awarded us the rare honor of "Legacy Business" status.    We read the reviews and thought, this might be a great place. We were HIGHLY disappointed with the food! Extremely disappointed actually. Very dry dry chicken and meat. Extremely overcooked! It tasted like it had been sitting there for a few days. We hated the food, so we left immediately after the appetisers and didn't want to order anything else, wasting our money. I would never recommend or come to this Restaurant again. Only plus was the Taj beer.

    El lugar en general no está decorado ni ambientado tan espectacularmente como esperábamos por la zona, sin embargo en general la comida fue espectacular. Casi todos los platillos, el butter chicken, los garbanzos, el paneer y las lentejas, estaban deliciosos. Hubo solo un platillo con cordero y huevo que no fue de nuestro agrado pero igual hasta las bebidas nos encantaron. El costo del lugar fue estándar para SF y el servicio en general fue bueno.

    Perfect locations for any shows you might be seeing around Union Square. Amazing attentive services in a gorgeous setting. If you are looking for authentic Indian food in the city this is the place to go, no question. My new favorite spot in the city!

    We loved that it was not a noisy restaurant. The six of us could actually have a nice conversation around a big round table. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, but the portions were a little small compared to other Indian restaurants. It was a great place to dine before seeing a show.

    Although New Delhi Restaurant had catered my wedding in 2006, my first visit to the restaurant was 12/18/22. It will not be my last visit. Wonderful food and ambiance. Chef and owner is a delight. I urge anyone to visit and try, like we did, 4 different cocktails, the lamb, the eggplant and the salmon tandoori. Liz

    Food was bland & not at all spicy- Compared with other Indian restaurants, the mint sauce, tikka paneer, saag paneer all lacked flavor, the food was just ok Got the famous Bengali martini, it’s actually really sweet & has no ghost pepper on the olive, the description did not match the actual drink- the added syrup does explain how you can order an alcohol free version of a martini. the owner is super friendly & staff was highly attentive- our water glasses were never not full

    I've had many hundreds of Indian meals from many dozens of Indian restaurants over my six decades of life. Without a doubt, New Delhi Restaurant serves THE GREATEST Indian cuisine I've ever had. Full stop. Period. The expansive gourmet menu is incredible both in breadth and depth, the drinks are delightful, the dining room and bar are exquisite, the service is top notch, owner/chef Ranjan Dey is an outstanding host and fun conversationalist, and the prices are *not* outrageous. PLEASE PATRONIZE THIS EXCEPTIONAL ESTABLISHMENT. You will love it!

    I was able to make reservations online, easily-even though I was dining solo. I started my meal with the Murky Bengali Martini, and was thrilled with it! I ordered the complete vegetarian Thali dinner, and every bite was delicious-each distinctly flavorful, and I was grateful I had a spoon and nan to soak everything up! The owner was kind and attentive, as were the rest of the staff. I look forward to eating here again!
