Not Your Average Joe's Hyannis
We have been going to NYAJ's within MA from week two of opening. Since renovation of NYAJ's in Hyannis, it has been a big disappointment. We keep saying we will give it another chance and this past weekend finally gave up. The food is not of the same quality, the noise level too loud, as the restaurant is too close to the bar area, and the servers are bordering rude. One server asked me why I did not want to save the turtles when I asked for a straw for a drink with a lot of fruit in it. For years, we have always been frequent guests of NYAJ's - yes, I am disappointed.
It was a small family gathering for my daughters birthday. We hesitated going out because of the corona virus but our server was very conscientious about keeping things clean and careful not to touch things to keep germ free. She was also extremely friendly. The food was delicious as always
Fun lunch with a friend. Good quality and variety. Nice host, super friendly. Give him a raise. Lovely African-American gentleman really sold the new specials with enthusiasm and fun.
Vegetarian rice bowl was flavorful and hot. Cranberry chicken was dry, but the sauce was very good.
We had a reservation and were going to be a little late. When I called to tell them they were very nice and said not to worry. They told the hostess and we were seated immediately when we got there. I wanted to order the salmon but did not like the sides and did not like the sides and was able to switch them. It was delicious!
NYAJ is usually a great experience from their greeting through desert. Unfortunately this was not the case on Primary Tuesday! We decided to cast or votes for the needed Democratic nominee then grab a bite since we typical love 1/2 price burger night. They were empty at 6pm so you'd assume we'd receive top notch service but that was not the case. Our waitress seemed too bored to be there, our burgers were quite small (way smaller diameter than actual bun), followed by dirty dishes sitting at our table after paying the bill and departing the restaurant.
We have been to NYAJ many times and ordered our favorites this time around. We shared the tuna wontons appetizer which is certainly large enough for two. We both got the Jambalaya and it was wonderful. The rice was piled in the center of the dish which worked for but of us as we didn't want all of it so we could just take what we wanted. I highly recommend this restaurant when you are in Hyannis.
This is a great atmosphere for families. We brought our 3-year-old, and NYAJ offered a cute little game that was quiet and kept him occupied more than the typical crayon/coloring activity at other restaurants.
We enjoyed our meals, which came out in a timely manner. It was a very nice dining experience.
Always consistently good food
Reasonable amount of time from order to getting food
We have been to Not Your Average Joe’s for years now but with the new changes we are even more impressed. It is definitely our go to a restaurant whenever were in Hyannis.
Good food and service
Good food, average service and high noise level
A fun place for groups of all ages. The menu selection is terrific, especially if you are a Gluten Free Vegetarian like myself. Typically I have 1 or 2 things to choose from, there were numerous options - I even had a hard time deciding. Such a treat.
I enjoyed the Nacho Average Nachos. They were a bit better at the soft opening, but still delicious. The Fat Tire beer is just great and is my new favorite. My wife really enjoyed her turkey avocado club sandwich (two slices of bread).
As always we thoroughly enjoy having dinner at Joe’s will highly recommend it and come back again and again
I got a gift card for a Christmas gift so I used it Thursday night.
I or the Backyard Cheeseburger medium well and it was cooked
Our server Danielle was excellent... food as always is consistently good. The only "downside" was the uncomfortably loud music at 11:45 a.m. Looking around the restaurant, I spied lots of "seniors" and families with young children so I find it hard to understand the "night-club vibe" of that music. When I mentioned this to Danielle, (we are senior citizens and find it hard to talk over that kind of music), she volunteered to turn the music down... instant relief!
I just think that restaurants need to be more aware of the noise-level that already exists with conversation and scurrying wait staff delivering plates and ...TURN DOWN THE MUSIC PLEASE!
A pre-movie dinner which because the service was so good we had a bunch of time before our movie
Glad to have this local restaurant back open after renovations.
As usual a nice experience and good food. The only disappointment was that there was no special recognition of my twin grandsons celebrating their birthday after I brought it to our server’s attention.
We always enjoy NYAJ's and this dinner was no exception. I tried the fish n chips. The fish was a bit soggy underneath, which was sad. I had the Fat Tire Amber Ale and it was excellent. My wife enjoyed the turkey avocado bacon club (not enough avocado, though). Although the place was busy, it was not overly so and the sound level was agreeable.
Food was excellent it was our first time in since the remodeling. We had an issue with a birthday gift certificate at the end saying we could not split the bill if we were using the coupon so that was a little disappointing to end the great evening that way.
we’ve been here since the remodel and the first dinner was amazing and wonderful. we returned after Christmas with all of our family(4) ... and unfortunately the table service was lacking in -well basically everything. I think we just happen to have a waitress that was very either on trained or just not aware of what’s going on. she had no answers to any questions and constantly had to go find someone who had an answer. The food itself was decent but not as great in taste as the first time we were there. it was a very disappointing dinner to share with my family after Christmas.
Awful!! Hate the new layout. The renovations are terrible. Too much emphasis on the bar area. Majority for tables are on top of each other in bar and dining side. No privacy between tables. You can hear their conversations and they can hear yours. This was the second and last visit since the remodeling. Miss the old NYAJ. We will not be back. We made a reservation and we were seated at a semi-high top in the bar area. We shouldn’t be seated in the bar area with a reservation. From there it continued to go down hill. We were greeted by one waitress and she took our drink order. Waited a while for drinks when another waitress came to the table and said we were her table. After about 15 minutes finally got drinks and another five minutes before we got bread. Food took a long time to get. Table next to us ordered at same time and were paying their bill when we finally got our food. My husband ordered the jambalaya, which was his favorite. It was horrible. No flavor. The rice was obviously from two different batches because half was cooked and half was under cooked and very hard. My broccoli was cold and had a piece of what looked like chicken in it and I had baked haddock, so obviously wasn’t part of my meal. We use to dine here at least once a month. Waitress was rude. We would have complained, but we were using gift card purchased right before they closed for renovations, so we wanted to use it all, and didn’t want anything reduced, because we will never return. Music is too loud. Art work is horrible. Noise level too loud. No privacy from table to table. Food is not the same. The selections are mainly the same but the preparation, flavor and quality is not anywhere near as good as it use to be. The old NYAJ was fabulous, this isnot. Friends have said the same thing. They won’t return. I will be surprised if they aren’t closed within a year.
My favorite item on the menu is Kendall Jackson Chardonnay and the turkey club used to be second. However, last time we visited the toasted bread was so hard it irritated the roof of my mouth. Overall, the food is good, but since redecorating it's quite noisy.
Disappointed. NYAJ used to be a staple of our Hyannis dining options but this visit was extremely underwhelming. We had a party of 6 and all but 1 were disappointed. Won’t return.
The food was very good, our server was nice; a bit noisy but I kind of expected that.
Great Food Awesome Service the Staff is very helpful, friendly and quick. The food is spot on tasty
We approached the host stand and all three employees had their backs to us. Once acknowledged, hostess was friendly and brought us to a spacious and comfortable table. However, drinks took a very long time and server was periodically missing. Her friendliness made up for some of our annoyance with the late drinks, but she was out of sight much of the time. The chicken on our salads was horribly over cooked and inedible, and the noodles on the Asian chicken salad undercooked and hard.
We will try again and hope other menu items are better, and service is quicker and more attentive.
Also, they were out of bread when we first arrived, and when it finally reached our table mid meal it was frozen in the center.
I've been a long-time customer of Not Your Average Joes's and if this had been my first visit i'd never return. Kitchen and servers and food runners clearly not in sych; salad came out for one of us and nothing for other diner - then her salad was incorrect. At same time her incorrect salad arrived, my entire entree arrived (within 3 minutes of me receiving my salad).. My dining companion had ordered french onion soup, which when it came out the first time had not cheese and then when it came back, the server could not locate a soup spoon? Clearly, since they've re-opened they've hired kitchen staff with no pride int heir work as food was not presented in an appetizing manner but thrown on the plate. Plenty of kinks need to be worked out. I 'll stick with Westboro and give this a chance in late spring to see if they've straightened things out.
Our waitress was inattentive and mostly absent. She may have been new (?), but the slow and nonchalant service ruined our family dinner out.
Great redesign of restaurant. Good food good service. It was busy but food came fast. Love the bread! Always enjoy eating at Joes.
Our waitress was very accommodating & welcoming. It was fun to see Douglas again in Hyannis.
Restaurant very busy. Service good, bread outstanding, but kitchen slow to get food out. Main dishes were good but sides (rice and broccoli) not very good. Kitchen or server messed up request to substitute side dish vegetable. Loved the new, contemporary decor.
Happy Joe’s is open again in Hyannis. Still seem to be working out the kinks in service - our server was good but drinks from the bar took a long time.
The waiter was very friendly and the service and food were really good.
Alie, our waitress was beyond excellent. Friendly, humorous, accurate, made nice suggestions, always smiling and made us feel at home.Lon D
Not Your Average Joes is still at the top of my list but the old building was more warm and inviting. This renovation seems to be all metal and hard edges. I generally love any art that you hang on the wall but I must admit that I looked at the paintings on the wall on the right side and thought "What the hell?"
It was hard to answer the question on "ambiance" because basically, there isn't any. Still, it has the most reliable menu in the area. The entre is as appealing as the description and you can count on it.
We were really disappointed with the changes, especially in the menu. As someone with a gluten allergy, we felt like the menu change took away options for gluten free customers. There was one gluten free appetizer option. The gf chicken quesadilla was always amazing and the reason we went and we are extremely disappointed that it’s no longer there. The gf rolls were stale. The chicken perm was delicious though!
Love NYAJ. We have been eating here for years and we love the bread and dip pre meal. Food is always delicious. Prices are decent. Staff are always friendly.
