Old Dominion Grill and Sushi
Went there for sushi with my daughter on a Friday night ... there was no wait, the place is quite large! After being seated, in an out of the way location with only 1 other table of diners visible, it seemed that no waitstaff had been assigned to our table. I finally flagged down the one waitress in the area, who graciously started service for us ... Charlotte took great care of use the whole night. Sushi was really good, very fresh and interesting roll combinations, we got the Godzilla roll and Steeler's roll, with California rolls ... all very good.
Our food and table were great for a Mother's Day lunch. Our server was excellent!
Old Dominion was about the same on this second visit. I took business associates this time. While the food was varied and well-portioned, it was not really outstanding. So whether for family or business dining, I probably would not go back.
Great Sushi rolls. The Ying Yang shrimp appetizer is amazing. Food was promptly served to the table. Great restaurant to accommodate all people, even those in the party who do not like sushi.
I was a bit disappointed in the flavor level of the Asian dishes. I order lettuce wraps at different restaurants all across the Tristate area, and the lettuce wraps that I got at Old Dominion Sushi & Grill, were unfortunately the worst I have ever had. The sushi was okay, so I may go back sometime and bring my own low sodium gluten free soy sauce.
It's difficult to write a review about a place that was just OK. Even making allowances for it being Friday, service was slow. Sushi was OK but pieces were very large. Have had better sushi at other places in Frederick.
We went in, never having visited before, and really enjoyed our lunch! We ordered the shrimp and chicken teriyaki bento boxes which were more than filling and delicious to top it off! We had fried rice, sautéed veggies, steamed veggies, tempura veggies, dumplings and a California roll in my bento box and a great salad too! I would definitely visit again!!
This establishment is the absolute best! Super friendly staff, great food, great atmosphere. A+ dining experience!!!! Will DEFINITELY return!
Never would have stopped if it weren't for the reviews on Open Table. You are missing out if you don't give it a try. Sushi was fresh and delicious.
Our cocktails were excellent followed by our great dinners. Another great time at Old Dominion
We had cocktails (dirty martini for me; my wife had a margarita) and 2 dinners -- shrimp / vegetable stir fry for my wife and steak / vegetable stir fry for me plus a shared shrimp appetizer. Servers were very friendly and attentive to our needs. Everything was excellent --- we'll be back!
Kirin Ichiban just right on this hot day. The hotate sushi sat around just a wee bit long. Of course you can't beat fresh off the boat aft the Tokyo fish market. But still, scallop sushi should have no fishy flavor. On the other hand, the tempura udon was a generous portion and expertly done.
This place continues to impress us. The sushi is amazing and the beer is fantastic. The food combinations are well thought out and unique. The Raven Roll is just icing on the cake for local fans.
The bartender was very attentive and provided good food/drink choices. Will definitely be back.
We definitely enjoyed having dinner at Old Dominion. The menu was varied and the food was tasty. It was a great value and we will definitely return.
Very large restaurant and from the outside it looks more like a store. The food and service were very good and it was worth the drive on a Sunday afternoon. The portion sizes are large and the sushi and Japanese fare is very good. They also have burgers which looked incredible but we didn't have them. Not in downtown Frederick so the parking was very easy.
This is a hidden gem. Its good for basically anything. Asian, American, chinese.
We gave Old Dominion a try for a Valentine's Day dinner (since it had good reviews and wasn't all booked up like some places in town). It's "hidden in plain sight" at the end of a strip mall, where the black mini blinds over their windows make it easy to drive by and ignore. Once inside, they have a waterfall display past the front door that adds some character, but not much more when you reach the dining area and bar. The TVs on the walls make it a good location for happy hours or to catch a game while eating, but kill the Japanese Sushi and Steakhouse atmosphere I think we expected more of.
They do have a full length sushi bar and a long list of offerings that make it sound like a good destination for sushi. We aren't big sushi fans though, so went more for the grilled dishes. I tried the salmon and my wife ordered a chicken dish.
The service was prompt and friendly and the food was very good. Many of the entrees use very spicy sauces and seasoning though - including the salmon. So if you don't like spicy, you may be limited in your options.
They do try to offer something for everyone, which means such things as offering clam chowder as well as miso soup or shiitake mushroom soup, and a list of burgers.
They have a decent sake menu as well as 4 or 5 microbrews and a wine list, too.
Bottom line? I'd recommend it and will probably go back again - but maybe not for a special occasion so much as an informal night out.
This restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Frederick! Not only are the staff super friendly, the supervisor lady is always eager to recommend delicious dishes for you to try and fall in love with. The restaurant is quiet, clean, modern, and never crowded! The food portions are extremely generous and are so artistically arranged that you just have to snap a picture before digging into them. I hope that you are getting a sense that this is my FAVORITE restaurant haha I seriously can't recommend this place enough! There is a great variety of menu items including Chilean Sea Bass Mhmmm. Some must order items from the menu for me are the Raven Roll (thanks to the supervisor lady for recommending it!), Red Curry Shrimp, Yin Yang Shrimp appetizer without the wasabi half, and the super juicy mini burger sliders. We recently tried the Thai Chili Basil Sauce Steak and the steak was so tender and I would definitely order it again.
I ranked middle of the road because while I thought the food was good at the time, I became violently ill throughout the night into the morning and had to miss work. Not sure what it was but this was the only place I ate that day.
I was hesitant to eat sushi from a place that also serves hot wings and is called Old Dominion. Sounds like a buffet type restaurant. Anyway, we decided to give it a try. We thought is was enjoyable. I got a few rolls that were delicious. Wife got a chicken dish that was mediocre at best. Overall, not bad.
The entrees ( wok choices) were excellent along with our drinks --- martinis.
Everything was really good. Very diverse menu. Happy hour prices are terrific and happy hour is for the entire restaurant, not just the bar area. I sure do hate when it's just happy hour at the bar. We will go again.
This place has become a new favorite. Their sushi is amazing, but their entrees are just as good! I would highly recommend this for anyone. Kids eat free on Sunday's too, which is an added bonus for families!
Lost our Open Table reservation.
We had to wait 15 minutes to seat us when the Restraunt was empty looking for a table for us, took 4 employees to accomplish this task.
Waitress was OK, did not refill our drinks.
Food was not spicy or flavorful, we ordered from the menu. We did not try the sushi.
Will not be back.
Entrée served well before appetizers were finished. Never even allowed time for the salad that was supposed to accompany one of the dinners and the server never remembered it until mentioned. Ended up boxing it and taking it home. Server was friendly however. Entrée was "swimming" in ginger soy sauce...too much. Lettuce wraps are excellent
We took two of our grandchildren with us for dinner. My wife and I had two of the Wok-prepared meals --- one not so spicy and one spicy. Our grandson had the fried rice with steak and our granddaughter had the sliders. Everyone was very pleased with choice of dinner.
Sushi was very fresh....great flavors! Menu had good variety although we had sushi and Asian food vs the more traditional American fare.
Presentation 5. Taste 2. Don't put sashimi on ice. It tasted like ice. Portion size 5.
My wife, daughter, and I had a wonderful meal at OD. We decided to order items from different parts of the menu and share --- hamburger, drunken noodles, and curry chicken. We enjoyed each one and plan to return to try the sushi.
