Penn Square Grille - Marriott Penn Square Lancaster
The restaurant was closed and service provided by another restaurant in the hotel. I had to ask for a refill and the food was mediocre
The service was good. The food for the price wasn’t. When you pay for expensive food, the quality expected to be better. We had several people in our party, and nobody thought their food was great, it was just ok. They need to get a good chef.
Took our mother out for Mother’s Day. Our server was very nice, but sad to see such a limited menu for that day. A vegetarian option was not even listed under entrees, which was disappointing considering my other family member is one. When they brought out our dinners, most of our food was so salty we couldn’t eat it, and one of us got the chicken entree. What they got was literally a piece of grilled chicken breast, barely seasoned, dry and no sauce of any kind in it. I do expect to pay more when dining out like this and these kinds of establishments, but dry chicken was $24. Very disappointing and on a special day. The server did kindly replace the food that we couldn’t eat due to the salt, but I just feel that for a special day like that, and not even busy when we were there, it should have been much better for the money we spent.
Food very low quality for what is charged, and the ambience very unpleasant too ... does not worth the money
Didn’t realize they were under construction and would not have scheduled if we knew in advance. In addition menu was limited because of Mother’s Day and this should have been disclosed.
Food and service was excellent. Since the restaurant is temporarily located in the beautiful hotel lobby during renovations it was difficult to hear each other. We look forward to dining again once the renovations are completed. Our server was very pleasant and efficient.
Unfortunately no where on the restaurant’s web site does it say that the restaurant is under construction and therefore you are making reservations to eat in the lobby. It’s a far walk from the kitchen which prevents the service from being great. Limited bar menu as well. Super disappointed as my last experience in the restaurant was great. Renovations and growth are great for our city but be upfront on your website. Looking forward to coming back after the renovations are complete.
We had lunch at the Penn Square Grille to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Millersville. The service was great and the food was delicious! We enjoyed the salmon club sandwich and the short rib sandwich was excellent!
The food was awesome!! The restaurant is in a temporary location so it is quite a lot of ambient. Once the renovation is complete, everything should be great.
Server was not very competent. She seemed to be inexperienced at even the beginning greeting. Didn't even ask if we wanted drinks. We had to ask if we could order some drinks and she asked what we wanted. We didn't realize when making reservations that seating was in the middle of the hotel entrance due to renovation.
We should have been told that the restaurant has been moved to the hotel lobby BEFORE we made the reservation. (The website should have been updated)
The menu was only SOME of what is listed online. (The website should have been updated)
Overall we were disappointed
Admittedly they are under construction and have a limited menu. Food was good. Cocktails a little pricey.
The service was good and the food was good. Unfortunately, the restaurant is being renovated so the lobby was used as the restaurant so there is no ambiance and the food selection was different from what is listed online. Definitely wait until the renovations are done before you go.
The waitress was very nice. Scallops were slightly burnt, but the bacon lentil fondue underneath was delicious. Unfortunately the peach cobbler was inedible as it appeared to be almost raw batter. The waitress was nice enough to remove from the bill. I've enjoyed this restaurant very much in the past. Hopefully once construction is complete and they return to their permanent space these issues will be resolved.
Service was extremely slow and food was not great..
Used to have excellent service & food.
Be clear that this review is during their renovation which was NOT clear on website. They moved the restaurant to the middle of the lobby of The Marriott. The noise level is horrible. Kids running underfoot of waitstaff the whole time. Worst of all, every time the front door automatically opened ( very often) , wafts of cigarette smoke poured into dining area. Change smoking area for now please! Food was tasty but very cold. Our waitress was good but the hostess was awful. We asked to be put at a table away from a large group of kids, as we had someone who didn’t hear well and she rudely said - all our tables are reserved and walked away. This was at 5:15pm. I’ll come back and give it another try when their renovations are over. I’m sure it will be better
Was under construction and was not told about it till we showed up. Was explained by the very rude hostess the had seating in the lobby of the hotel by a bar. It was so so loud from people at a convention and they sat us under a speaker playing music. My wife and I went here for Valentines date. We asked the waiter (he was nice) to move to quieter table and after being seated for a while was asked by the rude hostess to move. The food menu was very different from online. No beer on draft. My wife saw them walk our food out then take it back. When we got our food it was room temp. The food was good however. Wish they could give us our money back so we can go when they open after renovations.
Under renovation, so they temporarily relocated to the hotel lobby. It was loud and cold with a constant draft from the main doors. In regards to the food, no complaints. Everything we had was very good. Will go back after renovations are complete.
Slow getting food. Cold with doors to outside opening all the time.
We miss the 'old' restaurant. The lobby restaurant just isn't the same.
Restaurant is under remodeling so we were in the middle of the lobby with a cheerleading convention going on around us.
A little loud, but we understood the situation.
Food was fabulous!😋
Many mistakes with the food, service was very slow, had to fetch the waiter after 15 minutes of waiting for a drink.
Great experience just cold from door opening.
Food and service were excellent. Not very busy for a Wednesday night. I was a little cold because the front doors of the hotel are right in the front of the restaurant and cold air flows in every time door opens. But that aside, I would go again. My crab cakes were delicious. Dessert was ok, nothing to right home about. I guess dessert is not their specialty.
The staff was super friendly even know they were working on New Year's Eve. The filet was probably the best I have ever had. High recommended. The crab cakes were huge. I didn't mind being in the middle of the hotel while the restaurant is being upgraded.
I understand the restaurant is undergoing renovations but I think the kitchen staff should. Ordered short ribs and received a sandwich not the meal. This was extremely fatty and could only pick out a few pieces of edible meat. Our server was very apologetic and was awesome. The other meal, chicken was tiny and over cooked. Not what we were expecting at a Marriott. One dish was credited.
The food was great. I loved the new location and hope all is considered with the renovations
Penn Square is a notch below the many outstanding restaurants in downtown Lancaster.
Difficult to give a fair review at this time since the restaurant is undergoing renovation and name change. Service was excelllant and the food was very good. Will return to see what changes are made.
Penn Grille was/is under construction. Dining was in the lobby, by the front doors. It was freezing. Horrible. We had to bundle up while we ate our food. The two things I wanted, they were out of. Server was the only decent thing about it. He was on top of things, but other than that, bad experience.
It was a very disappointing experience. Our family was excited to enjoy a nice, cozy dinner before the tree lighting ceremony & Santa’s arrival but the hotel is currently under construction. The restaurant was moved to the hotel lobby. It was freezing!! The door kept opening as people were in and out bringing blasts of arctic air our way. Even with our jackets on it was cold. Another family up & left due to how unpleasant it was. The restaurant manager and waiter were very understanding & said they have received several of the same complaints with no response/resolution from the hotel. I would recommend choosing another restaurant until the construction is completed or until the hotel addresses this issue. Very inconsiderate to its diners.
Worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had
It was horribly cold sitting in the lobby to eat. Noisy , raw baked potato. Never go there.
Food was overpriced for what we received. Took a while to get refills. Would have expected more for the price.
The restaurant was temporarily located in the hotel lobby. Had we known this we would have waited and come at another time. Our drinks were good the salad was OK but kind of small. The bread came as we were finishing our salads. Three of the four dinners were fine. My steak ordered medium was delivered medium well to well done. I ate it and they took it off the total. Will try again when the Restaurant reopens.
Crabcake dinner was delicious, but others in party were not pleased with their meals. Crab fondue was tasty, but mostly cheese (little crab). Grilled salmon sandwich was undercooked. Dessert brownie with icecream dry / over-baked and kids did not eat it. Waitress was very attentive. Atmosphere was pleasant.
Too dark, not easy to find since there weren't any signs indicating the restaurant was in the middle of the lobby, so many people/luggage blocking the entire area, very loud and hard to talk to those at my table, not enough staff/service was very slow--we spent over 2 hours at the restaurant for a casual meal!!!!
Disappointing. Fair at best for the food and service. Very nice venue that needs to pay attention to the kitchen and wait staff.
When I made the reservation, I didn’t realize that the regular restaurant was closed for renovations and that the restaurant had been moved into the hotel lobby.
We hadn’t been to this establishment before since the menu never grabbed us. We tried it for restaurant week because it seemed like a pretty good deal for $30. Our waitress was super nice but the service was very slow. Overall, the food and cocktails were “meh” at best. Nothing special. There are way better restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Unless you are stranded inside the hotel due to inclement weather, I’d suggest walking to just about anywhere else on the same block.
Food and service was amazing! Slightly loud with a birthday party at the bar, but overall a very good experience.
