I was excited to try Persimmon, as I’ve lived in the area for a while, however I was very disappointed. I ordered the special cauliflower bisque and wasn’t told it was covered in bacon. Seems odd for a vegetable soup. Then, our entrees took a suspiciously long time to arrive. Eventually a manager came over and asked if I had asked for the risotto without mushrooms because I dislike them or if it was an allergy. I said dislike and the food came out shortly after. It was obvious they just picked the mushrooms out because there were still little pieces of mushroom in it. The service wasn’t great either. We constantly got interrupted to ask if we were ready to order, then when we were finishing up multiple employees asked many times if we were finished, and my friend had to repeatedly say no. I won’t be back.
I love Persimmon. Small, intimate, casual with consistently elevated and outstanding food. Good wine selection although not expansive.
Persimmon is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always excellent. The scallops are outstanding and I can’t seem to order anything else. However, last time we were there we were less than satisfied with our server.
We ordered four drinks for four people, three came. My husband ordered mussels with fries. Waiter said fries cost extra when we asked where they were. We knew and had ordered them when we first ordered. They came after we had finished our meal. No bread to soak up the sauce for the mussels. When asked, the waiter seemed put out.
We will still return to Persimmon because hopefully the waiter was just having a bad day. But, if that had been our only time at Persimmon, it would have been our last.
We have been going to Persimmon for years. But, because we moved north to Frederick 12 years ago, we don't make it back as often as we did. We were not disappointed. It is still wonderful.
The food is always good, but the harsh lighting in the dining room makes it impossible to relax and enjoy my meal and dinner companions. In the future I’ll stick to the bae and the booths or dine elsewhere.
This is a little gem of a restaurant. Food was quite good and excellently prepared. Service was very good. Seems to be a good date night restaurant.
The service was quite inattentive, the food was okay. Cocktails not served together. Just not what I remembered.
Thank you for superb service, food, and drinks-- to celebrate a friend's birthday. Would highly recommend.
Best this visit were the beet salad, short ribs, and the wonderful chocolate cream pie martini.
Always reliable, and very cozy for lunch on a rainy/gloomy day. Guests loved the lobster roll, while I stayed with the reliable seafood salad with bay scallops and fresh fish.
Great-Great-Great....drinks were inconsistent but food was delicious.
Execellent food. We all had different starters, entrees, and desserts, and all were very satisfied. Good wine list, responsive wait staff, & convenient parking.
Had not been to Persimmon in a long while. Had a wonderful Branzini and it was a great value. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was really good. Glad I have rediscovered it!
Overall an excellent place to have dinner in terms of food, service and ambience. We were there on a Sunday evening and the place was not full. The noise level may be higher when they are busier. Persimmon is among our favorite Bethesda restaurants.
Will definitely return - good food, excellent drinks and service.
We were first to arrive for dinner service but the place was nearly full by the time we had finished. Beet salad and empanadas were refreshing and hot it was lovely.
Food was outstanding as usual.
The food is overrated! The place is small, smelly and I felt suffocated! Hard to breath! My server brought me the appetizer and few minutes later immediately brought the entree! While I was eating my appetizer, my entree was getting cold. Quite disappointed! 👎👎
Excellent waiter and it was the day before Valentine so ideal
Exciting and unusual food. Great for “GOODIES.”
Just the best kept secret in the area. Go once and you will make it your go-to place.
Persimmon does seafood dishes very well, especially tuna and crab. I particularly recommend the tuna and avocado tartare (chunky, rather than mushy) or a salad with grilled tuna. The crab cake sandwich is also very good. The list of wines by the glass is short, but well chosen and reasonably priced. The service is friendly, but not intrusive. The decor was recently refreshed and is attractive. There is a large metered parking lot behind the building that is very rarely full. My only disappointment is that there is no espresso available.
We thought we would give the restaurant a try after an unsatisfactory experience there several years ago. We were pleased with the recent experience. The previous time there was an incredibly noisy group of women in the dining area near the entrance. They were getting up, greeting and hugging one another, as well as talking in loud voices. They acted as if they had a private room and no one stopped them. We vowed never to come back but this time it was fine -- good food and a very good waiter.
Everything is good, not great. To eat well here, you’re going to drop $65 per person. At thin price point, it should be very good to great. So the value is just not there for me. Won’t go back.
Very nice lunch today with the market fish special. Hot! Tasty! Attractive on the plate. Server was very friendly
Just a super pleasant experience
My wife and I hadn't been to this restaurant in 15-20 years. What a loss! Persimmon has been open since 1998. It's a small restaurant so reservations are a must. However, it has a bar area with open seating. We fixed on the plentiful seafood offerings, but there's one my wife remembered that may not be on the menu. A delicious lobster roll with equally good fries. Beer and wine offerings are plentiful. All-in-all, it's a comfortable place to have a delicious meal.
Never disappoints. A favorite restaurant. I think we’ve had everything on the menu and and it is always iconsistently out of this world!!
What a nice place. The ambiance is lovely - not high luxe, but completely comfortable and unpretentious. plenty of space between tables, so not too crowded and noise level is nice and low. The food was beautiful. I had the bouillaibaise, with lots of different components each of which required different cooking time. Every one was done to perfection. The service was friendly and prompt but not overbearing; the wine list quite good. We'll be back!
Delicious meal at a great price. Would come here over Morton's or Ruth's Chris any day.
Food was great. From the apps to the entrees all was great. Wish we knew about this earlier as we frequently dine in the neighborhood. Will definitely go back.
Fantastic restaurant! We loved the food! The tuna and the braised short ribs were incredible!
Persimmon was terrific when we dropped in one Sunday for lunch. During restaurant week— a disaster. Loud. Poor food, indifferently presented. Lamb chops both medium rare (as requested) AND well done, depending on the chop. Lobster filling in rolls of icy from fridge. Place needs help
Persimmon always delivers. It’s my go-to place a reliably great meal
Restaurant week menu was full of great options. They were thoroughly flexible with accommodating my gluten free request. I had the duck confit salad, scallops risotto, and creme brûlée. All food was absolutely delicious. We will return again.
Great food for Restaurant Week.
The food was outstanding and the service was quite good but the noise level in the restaurant was considerable and it was difficult for 6 of us to have a conversation without shouting. Still, the food was a big draw and I would definitely go back
A Monday nite of restaurant week, early diners thinned out by 7:30. Service was attentive, food presentation was great, good tastes through to dessert.
Friends getting together to experience this restaurant as part of the Bethesda Magazine restaurant week. They had a fantastic menu for the occasion. Plenty to choose from and it was delicious! The restaurant was pretty small but that just added to the atmosphere. We really enjoyed ourselves!
Food was just superb! Our waiter was very attentive. Quite a small, intimate but not intimidating atmosphere. And there’s free parking on the weekends located at the back.
