We had a disappointing meal here in February but decided to give it a second chance. Sadly a wrong decision. We still had not had our starters 1 hr and 15 mins after arriving. One was not cooked thru when it finally arrived. We didn't seem to have a dedicated waiter and there was lack of communication regarding orders. We again waited a long time for our main course and were told they were busy in kitchen with take always. If this is the case surely you don't tell your diners this. We won't be going back again. What a shame.
This restaurant is a long standing favorite, but in the last year has undergone a change of owner and manager. On 17 August the food (crispy fried snapper and the coconut crab - part of a Caribbean menu) were very good but the service was indifferent. All the good waiters we used to know seem to have gone. When we came to pay the bill, they refused to record the amount spent on our frequent customer card and refused to accept the Toptable dining cheque. No coherent reason given for either. So I left no tip. I think it will be a long time before we return. There are other good Indian restaurants - like Khyber - in Croydon.
Planet Spice in Addington is without doubt one of the best of many good Indian restaurants in South-East London. Yet our visit this time was a little disappointing. Main courses were good but not outstanding, though the desserts stood out. We had the standard menu - I missed the special regional menus that gave this restaurant its distinctiveness. Hopefully they'll be back. Service seemed a bit slapdash at times and the metal guitar background music - even at very low volume - was irritating
We went to Planet Spice on a 50% off main food offer but I didnt find it was value for money. You had to have a starter to get 50% off the main so it actually didnt work out much less then it would have it we had only have mains.
The food was ok but I personally wouldnt to back there again. Service was very good and the staff were friendly.
The food at Planet Spice in Selsdon Park Road was very good, as was the service. They had forgotten about the 50% off but quickly amended the bill once reminded.
Although are starters were fine our mains of Tandoori Venison and Chicken Tikka Masala were below standard. In particular the venison didn't work as a tandoori dish.
We had dinner at Planet Spice, West Wickham last night. The standards of service and cuisine were of the high quality to which we have become accostomed.
another nice meal and very good value with toptable offer at Planet Spice Addington
Planet Spice, Croydon: for the first time, we kicked off with their starter platter, which was a pretty good combo of chicken, lamb and seafood morsels. For mains, we tried chicken shaslick and beef xacuti, the latter of which was meltingly tender. Only three other tables occupied on a Wednesday night, but the welcome was as warm as ever.
nice meal and very good value with toptable offer at Planet Spice Addington. we'll be back..
Fantastic dining at reasonble prices. This is an adventure.in taste indeed Got taloking to a couple on the next table who said they live locally and are regulars I could see(and taste ) why. will be back
We went to Planet Spice with friends and although the exterior is rather jaded and not very inviting, once inside the decor and ambience is really lovely. The staff were very patient and helpful and professional.
The food is excellent and very different from the normal run of the mill biryanis etc. Maybe a bit more expensive but not excessive for what you got. Would recommend.
As with previous posts, the 50% discount on main courses was not forthcoming. However, the food was good, fresh and tasty. If you're thinking of coming for a traditional "English" curry then don't come here: but if you would like tasty, fresh and filling food this is well worth a try. Initially disappointed with the size of the portions, as with all good food this was truly filling. Service was attentive without being intrusive and always friendly.
Have eaten here a couple of times now, and order takeaway at least once a month from Planet Spice. Their food never fails to impress; in my opinion, the best Indian food in South London.
lovely food and good service
good meal as always at planet spice croydon, excellent value with toptable promotion. surprised that the place seems to be never busy
good food, def above average and the price was good at well - for some reason our 50% offer wasnt registered at their end even after giving them our reference number but we still dined and enoyed!
We'd been wanting to try Planet Spice in Addington for some time, and weren't disappointed. Definitely an Indian restaurant with a twist. There's grills or curries to choose from, and all are a little bit different, e.g. venison main, and crab cakes or ostrich fillets for starter. We ordered the lamb shanks, (2, very filling!) prawn curry and seafood platter, all were delicious. 50% off mains offer is good value. Service was helpful and friendly, we'll definitely be returning! A lovely meal.
an extra spring menu at Planet Spice in Addington has added some more variety to the normally nice food; good service and atmosphere.
Planet Spice was as always delicious. The staff are really friendly and attentive without being too much. I had a prawn dhansak and the prawns were really big and juicy, not like you get at some places where they are tiny and dried up. Very delicious. My only critisism if I had any is that I would have liked something lighter with the poppadums eg a yoghurty dip or onion salad as the 3 dips that were supplied were all quite heavy, but a minor thing in an otherwise great meal.
Service was fantastic, lovely food
First class as always
Planet Spice was up to its usual standard of good food
The buffet was outstanding and very attentive service
In my opinion one of if not the best Indian Restaurant in South London. Food great as usual and a very relaxed place to eat dinner. Service is both efficient and friendly.
took friends. great atmosphere and buzz on a friday night. nice indian wine. food very good. service tops and personal.
Lovely food in pleasant suurounding
Planet Spice in Croydon - as usual a lovely meal and very attentive staff.
First timer, food was very good, staff attentive, parking, would definitely return.
The buffet lunch was excellent. So many different dishes to try
Our friend was impressed and decided we should all return
Excellent food and service as always.
We went to Planet Spice on a Friday evening and had their 11th Anniversary set menu, which was excellent, a 4 course meal for 24.95. The service was excellent as always and we will definitely return.
Planet Spice, Croydon: the anniversary tasting menu (their 11th) delivers the goods yet again. Monkfish came with a delicious mango chutney jelly; clove-smoked kid goat was tasty and wonderfully tender; guinea fowl with wild mushroom kedgeree was a very satisfying main course; and the selection platter of four desserts was a perfect finish. Throw in some well chosen wines, one per course, for a tenner the set and you've got an evening to remember. Looking forward to their 12th...
Went for Buffet lunch. Very enjoyable
Food up to its usual high standards
Second visit to this restaurant. The food was as good as it was the first time although the vension (asked to be done medium rare) was well done and a bit too tough - but the wonderful sauce that went with it made up for it. The food at this place is a nice change to the usual tired Indian classics. The 50% Top Table offer made it good value too. We will be going back for more!
We visited planet Spice on a Sunday evening. This was at least our 6th visit. The food and service was a good as ever and we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
Another visit to Planet Spice and we left yet again, happy customers. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant. Food and service is always outstanding.
I recently visited Planet Spice, croydon. The meal and service were both excellent. The space betweeen courses were great and the waiters were very helpful with recommendations
WHAT A FIND
Food was delicious especially my lamb shank.
Both Starters Crab & Cod Cake AND Kurkuri Seekh were gorgeous and my boyfriends main of Beef Xacuti with Chilli and Cheese Nan tasted good too.
Unfortunately I was driving but noticed they had a decent wine list including a decent NZ Sav however the Mocktails were nice.
ust noticed on their website if you dine Sunday - THursday you can get 50% off second main course BARGIN.
Would definately reccommend and will be returning soon
Definitely not your usual curry house. Indian food made with an unusual twist - like the tandoori ostrich. We had the meat platter and the seafood platter- both excellent. The service was attentive but not obtrusive - nice decor too. Very good value for money for such well turned out food. Will certainly be doing a return visit.
not the first visit to Planet Spice and is not going to be the last. choice is a little more limited (last time we visited platet spice during one of their festivals) but still a great value with toptable's 50% off main courses.
