Roasted Baby Beet Salad

Cheap and good quality, parking is also convenient.
Really nice to get back into a restaurant for a night out with friends. Monday is the best time to visit Plate 38 because their 'Happy Hour' drink and food menu is valid until closing. Great bar drinks along with oysters on the half-shell and steamed mussels.
Tables very dirty and sticky even after @clanin
Always great food and friendly service. I've never had a bad meal here.
It was a really busy Thursday night because they had live music. The servers were fast and accurate. Music and the ambience is great. Will be coming back on Thursday
Food and service were perfect as always.
Despite the fact that we made a reservation, we were told to wait at least 15 minutes along with all of the other walk-ins. So, we left.
4 stars because any place with bottomless mimosas on a Monday deserves at least that. However it was not the best experience, 50 minutes to get our food. Apparently our food went out to the wrong table and instead of coming by to let us know, our server decided to avoid us. I had the crab cake benny and my guest had the salmon benny, they were average. In his defense, after our food came our server became very very attentive.
It was our first time at Plate 38. The service was very above average. The food was good although we felt the a greater explanation of the dishes would be a benefit to first timers as well as recommendations from the kitchen
Great service and the food was outstanding for Brunch
The menu was varied and appealing. However, our paella entree was a little bland and under-seasoned.
I love this place usually. It’s my local spot but when I went this week the food was not as good. They ran out of French fries at lunch and my burger was like sawdust when I asked for medium rare. The service which is typically great was super slow too.
Food was awesome as was the service! The noise level a bit high for a Saturday morning brunch, but delicious!
Food was really good. The lunch menu has lots of great offerings.
If it wasn't for the hostess, I would have given five stars on everything.
Our visit got off to a rocky start when we requested an indoor table because the wind was blowing quite hard. The hostess's solution was to seat us next to an open door where we had to weigh down our menus, napkins, etc. When I went back to the hostess to see if there was anything that could be done, she got defensive, cut me off before I could finish my question and told me in no uncertain terms that she couldn't close the doors, which I had no intention of asking her to. I said I was aware of that, my question was could we be seated somewhere else. She said no, there was nothing else available (which I wish she would have told me before we were seated...I might have chosen to go somewhere else). I said we didn't have time to wait and I guessed there was nothing she could do and walked away. She tracked me down and tried to engage with me further, but I told her to just forget it as we didn't have time to wait for another table.
All of that aside, our server was lovely to us and took great care of us. She accommodated our every request, including giving us a half-and-half order of french fries and sweet potato fries. I had the chicken pesto sandwich and it was delicious!
I liked it. However having a separate charge on the receipt showing minimum wage increase is petty. It's like you are trying to say " You are being punished for us having to give your server a fair wage.
Do not pass this place up, Every item we ordered was beautifully crafted and delicious. If I had to pick a favorite I would say it was the Fish with Yuzu ( forgot the name).
Love that Plate 38 is back at it and seems to be fairing quite well -- a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!
Food was delicious and service was great! We got there just after opening to beat the crowds.
Great spot. Awesome bottomless mimosas! Highly recommend.
Wonderful to be back after a long year. Note: Tomato basil soup[ regular on menu], tun tartar tacos, soft shell crab, striped bass, all very well received.
I always love Plate 38, been here multiple times. The price though way too much for a simple burger. Otherwise very good.
So glad to be back out dining with my friends, and Plate 38 is perfect for a couple, or a group of 5-6. Prompt service, great menu and wine/cocktail list. We had a great bottle of rose from a well-chosen selection.
They were very accommodating of two guests who arrived late, two who left early (haha, leaving us with the bill!)—we had the table till we were ready to go, not pushed out the door.
This is a popular place for groups so I do recommend a reservation.
Now the food! I had a big and tasty plate of Peruvian shellfish stew. Every morsel was delicious. Friends ate smoked mozzarella burger; little gems salad; pasta with shrimp; beet salad. And we went through three cones of their delicious, truly French-style skinny and crispy French fries. With what was left of our appetite, we had the creme brûlée trio, perfect to share for three people.
Our waiter Dennis was top notch! He was very helpful, funny and courteous.
Great food served by some very nice people. looking forward to coming again.
Ambience was nice, service was okay not very attentive, food took some time after ordered, small plates menu very good mushroom Bruschetta is a must try and the tuna tara taco was amazing, as someone that loves fries and must try at every restaurant I was not impressed garlic fries did not taste like garlic at all overall food was okay
Food was mostly flavorless. Too bad cuz we used to come here a lot.
Busboy (blond) should keep his mask up over his nose, please.
Always our Go To place for a great night out.
Good service, excellent menu
Overall everything was great. The music was a bit too loud where I was sitting. It looked like the tent in the parking lot was more quiet so I'll ask for that area next time. Very good food.
Always a good choice. Plate 38 has a neighborhood feel with a bistro menu with some nice daily surprises. Stars deducted this outing due to making a brunch reservation based on the erroneous listed time for brunch ending at 2:30 PM. We made the reservation for 2 and then had confusion when we got a lunch menu rather than the brunch menu. Having arrived at 2 it would have been nice to get last call for the brunch menu. That said, the lunch menu has many choices, the grilled artichoke is great, oysters are delicious, and the salads generous and tasty. The house prosecco is quite nice and a great value.
Arrived in time for Happy Hour and ordered off both menus. The food was delicious and the prices reasonable. Loved the beet salad (not on the HH menu) the peppers, steak quesadilla and the Cuban sandwich. We’ll be back!
Great food. Great service.
Service was pretty bad. Which I had been there two times before over the last 2 weeks and it was great. Maybe a bad night but we could barely get them to turn to face us. Their backs to the bar area most of the time. Food was also the same.
Just mediocre at best this time around. Consistency is key.
The hostess is so friendly and attentive. Every time I’ve been, she really makes me feel valued as a customer. I feel badly I don’t know her name but she’s a delight! The food, especially the short ribs were delicious. My only complaint was they gave my friend salmon when she ordered trout. Then the chef came out and said, that’s trout. But it was clearly salmon. They argued with us even though it was definitely salmon. I think we can recognize salmon when we see and taste it. I was disappointed they didn’t give a discount or at least apologize for the mistake because the salmon was still delicious. Just surprised by the attitude.
I will definitely come back because the food is great and the service is great and I’m happy you are fully open!

The food is outstanding and the service warm. The one change I would like to see is the service is a little too slow. We are going to be repeat customers. It’s our favourite restaurant
The sandwiches were decent but over priced. Fries were extra too
Overall a good experience but the restaurant ran out of champagne during the middle of brunch...we didn’t even get to order one. We saw a table being sat before we left getting served a brand new bottle, kinda upsetting.
We had reservations therefore we were seated immediately. Hostess and waiter were both cordial and professional. Our waiter took our drink order almost immediately after being seated.
Husband had the scrambled egg breakfast with sourdough bread. Came out hot and presentation was simple yet very appetizing in appearance. Taste was just okay, he would prefer an omelette.
I had the bbq tri tip sandwich. Flavor was delish, but too much ciabatta bread. Came with fries, enough to share. Presentation was simple nothing pretty in regards to plating, just a pickle on the side.
Overall a good go to place that is close by home. A little uneasy as places are opening up and indoor seating is allowed. Will definitely come back, would like to support local restaurants in Pasadena.
Nice place for lunch. The food was good. I had the salmon salad and the salmon was cooked to perfection. I was there for a business lunch, which I would not recommend, but a great location for eating lunch with friends.
