1665 and The Orangery, The Mitre Hotel
A real treat
This place is okay but nothing special. Food is fine but portions are small for the price. Service is inattentive and slow (for example, our drinks order was taken after the food order of a table seated after us, and it took ages for a card reader to arrive after we were given our bill). Wine by the glass is very good value however. Probably won't be back.
The food was absolutely incredible and the staff are amazing. The atmosphere and design of the place, as well, is flawless. If I had any complaints it would be that we had to leave at 10pm but that is certainly not their fault and they did a great job of packaging our delicious deserts up and not making us feel like we were being suddenly booted out because of the Gov curfew.
5* and would recommend to anyone & everyone! Lovely :D
This was our first visit to 1665 at the Mitre since their recent refurbishment of the hotel. One definitely needs a guide to get to your table! The restaurant is extensive but clever design still manages to make things feel a bit private. The menu is interesting, as was the cocktail list, but we really enjoyed the popcorn cauliflower (cauliflower popcorn?) as a starter. The mains were both well presented and tasty, if a bit smaller than our appetites demanded. As for the desserts, well we couldn’t go past the brownies, accompanied by a latté each. Overall, it was a very pleasant evening and couples who wish to dine as we did should expect to pay between £100 and £150.
Our first trip to the Mitre and definitely not the last! The food, ambience and decor was absolutely superb and we are excited for your future.
Excellent food and good service in a great setting overlooking the river. Especially nice if you have table by the window.
Pity about all the steps to reach the 1665 restaurant - difficult for buggies, impossible for wheelchairs. Didn't see a lift & no easier access offered.
Lovely spot for lunch. Delicious food and great ambience.
BeaverBrooks have done an excellent job on the renovation... I saw it last in December and it was very shabby and sadly almost empty.
The Cauliflower popcorn is to die for and the seafood curry was amazing...
I wish them every success and will definitely go back!
Wonderful atmosphere despite being covid safe. The staff were brilliant and the food and wine were delicious.
Maybe it was my food choices but I am afraid I was not impressed. I found my chair very uncomfortable but did not feel I could ask to change it - I should have done. Took ages to take our order. When our starters arrived we had to remind them that a cocktail had been ordered and not arrived.
My food was mediocre, my daughter enjoyed hers.
Our three course lunch plus one drink was £98 which seemed a little steep.
Sorry but I will not be returning.
The food was fantastic, great menu and well cooked and presented. It was a fun venue, lively and a good atmosphere. The one way system to the loos and wearing masks whenever you leave your table was very annoying, but obviously this is outside of the restaurant’s control. Can’t wait to visit again when life is back to normal and you don’t have to eat dinner at the children’s tea time!!
There was a bit of a mix-up when we arrived as I had phoned to book Afternoon Tea but was asked to book online instead which I did. However, the restaurant had thought my booking was for a late lunch! They didn’t have enough portions of Afternoon Tea for all 5 of us, so we shared 3 lots and were given a glass of fizz and some beignets in addition. In fact we had more than enough food, all of which was very tasty, and had a very pleasant afternoon. (I understand that the restaurant’s website has been updated since I booked and there is now a different procedure for booking Afternoon Tea).
Had a lovely evening in The Orangery. Food was delicious and the staff were wonderful - just the right level of service.
Beautiful interior design, formal restaurant but with a very relaxed, friendly and welcoming feel. The service was brilliant and the food was amazing. The wasabi seared tuna and Lamb Rump were especially good. My second visit in less than a week, this is definitely on my frequent dining list!
It is about time The Mitre Hotel has somewhere good to eat. 1665 Brasserie is very well decorated, comfy, provides good food with very good service. We have been here twice now, once for Sunday lunch and once for lunch during the week. Both times very much enjoyed.
The Sunday lunch provides a great choice of roasts, beef, lamb, pork or chicken as well as sharing platters where you get the joint in the middle of the table and carve it yourself. The mid-week lunch menu was also excellent.
Service is good and very friendly. This place has it sorted, good atmosphere, good food, good service and good value. I have already told others and took two guests for the mid-week lunch.
really nice place to eat. have been a few times now and have enjoyed every visit. will definatly be back.
They have had a major transformation, and only recently reopened.
The food, Sunday lunch, was fabulous, they even do a whole chicken for a family.
After being highly recommend by one of my customers, I was not disappointed, a great Sunday lunch, with great service. And lovely views of the Thames. I’ll definitely be back.
Great value for money as well
Fabulous sunday lunch, elegant
setting and excellent service! Can not fault the experience!
Disappointed that the Sunday Roasts did not include a vegetarian option, and the vegetarian choices were quite limited. However the meat-based roasts were lovely.
The service and overall offering is much improved since the new owners took over, long may it continue !
Heavy rain on a Sunday but bright, warm and welcoming at The Mitre.
Great Sunday lunch with smiley happy service - a firm new favorite on every front.
Best Sunday roast going
Great food and service.
Second visit in two weeks and the second was every bit as good as the first.
The starters were very good, but for main dish I took Dover sole and it was a grate mistake.
The fish had been frozen maybe several times the flesh was so disgusting to eat! Of course I didn’t eat it. But manager apologized for everything and didn’t charge for main courses for my husband and me and for a bottle of wine and for starters as well.
He explained that they couldn’t manage the restaurant in a proper way because of all this restrictions wit Covid-19.
We had a fabulous evening. Our host, Jennifer was lovely, entertaining and perfectly attentive. Everyone enjoyed their food; cauliflower popcorn, seared tuna, crab toastie, suckling pig, lobster, chicken- All excellent
Absolutely loved it!! The menu exceeded expectations. Can't wait to return!
Amazing find in Hampton Court.
The good was delicious, the space and room
Overlooking the river fabulous and the outside space and Orangery was so tastefully done.
Congratulations a job well done.
A really enjoyable lunch. It felt like a real treat.
A wonderful experience! The only problem was that my chair was broken. The steak was great! The service was impeccable!
Great food / drinks / service - 1665 highly recommended
Really lovely evening - great to enjoy a glass of Whispering Angel on the river front first and then head in to dinner - nice atmosphere, friendly service, good food - all in all a nice experience thank you.
Beautiful food in luxurious surroundings! Excellent service and ambiance.
Full Vegan menu too which is great!
Our first visit was excellent. But even though we went again at the same time as before we found that the food was slightly on the cold side.
But still tasty.
The staff were all very friendly and attentive and the space bright and newly refurbished. Starters excellent and main course was a very good roast Sunday lunch. But my wife is pescatarian (mentioned on the booking) and there was no fish main course on the menu - though they produced a piece of haddock to go with the 'sunday roast' accompaniments.
Lovely setting by the river. Great food with quality ingredients. One of the better rib eyes i had and outstanding truffle and parmesan chips.
Definitely place to re visit
A lovely evening, dinner with 4 girlfriends. The restaurant accommodated us when the 10pm curfew came into force days before our booking which was late at 8.45pm so we would never have been able to eat in time but they rang and offered us alternative seating in a spillover part of the main restaurant in an orangery. We were pleasantly surprised as I didn't think the ambience would be as nice but the decor was beautiful and warm, yet also with an outside-garden like feel befitting of an orangery. It was slightly too cool in there if any negative comments to be made but everything else was great. Fantastic food and good wine (their signature rose, Whispering Angel) and our waitress was superb, very friendly and professional
Waitress was good but room for improvement all round considering the restaurant hasn't been open very long. Starters came whilst we were finishing nibbles so after waiting half an hour for a drink it all seemed to come at once. Main courses were generally good but suckling pig and steak overcooked and crackling was not crispy. Lovely desserts. This is our second visit and I'm afraid wasn't as good as the first which was the day after opening. We would recommend to give the place a chance to iron out the rough spots and give the benefit of the doubt in these difficult times.
Excellent location, staff were attentive and extremely professional. Food absolutely delicious. Would definitely visit again.
Overall the food and service was very good. However the A La Carte menu were London prices and the wine list not good value.
A lunch time set menu at say £35-£45 would be more acceptable.
