1665 and The Orangery, The Mitre Hotel
Great change to what was a run down hotel and restaurant. Food is good, not exceptional and the staff were friendly, smart and quite efficient.the sommelier knew his stuff and proposed some good wines. A great addition to the Molesey/Hampton Court dining scene
Good food, nice environment, staff attentive without being overbearing. Negatives: no dry or fino sherry available and the muzak - absolutely out of place and unnecessary. Also somewhat on the pricey side but you’re probably paying for locations.
Excellent in every manner. Excellent hygiene too. Amazing smelling hand sanitiser on the tables and regular cleaning in place. This place is a must visit.
Fabulous refurb on this place a complete overhaul of the venue and the menu don’t hesitate to book!
Some staff were really unsure of what they were doing. We were sat waiting for someone to take a drink order for some time. We ordered two martinis and weren’t asked what gin or vodka we would like in them (which is standard). Drinks took ages and by the time they came we had to move to our table. I’m sorry but the food was not great at all - my lamb tasted like it had been cooked earlier and kept warm, was tough and totally tasteless. Overall it’s such a beautiful venue, really interesting and nicely decorated. I’d recommend it for drinks if the service could improve but unfortunately I won’t be back for food.
The experience of dining and drinking in such a lovely interior and with a fantastic view of the Thames was a privilege. The service was excellent and food of excellent quality. Will be booking again soon.
What a change from its previous incarnation! The social distancing was well done and adhered to the guidelines. The menu is not extensive but the food was very good as was the ambience. The staff were attentive and not overbearing. We will definitely return.
First time there and can’t wait to go back. Everything was great from the staff to the surroundings. Such a treat to have a place as this on the doorstep.
We had a really special family meal at the Mitre. A 10/10 roast which we couldn’t fault! Excellent service, lovely ambiance, would highly recommend
Incredible Sunday roast at 1665 - highly recommend!
Great attentive service food very good ambience great overlooking the river excellent experience
We enjoyed a lovely Afternoon tea on a Saturday for my partner's birthday. The selection was absolutely outstanding, and perfect quantity for two. Excellent value for money, fantastic atmosphere, cannot recommend enough.
Fantastic service and the food was delicious! Will definitely be back!
Absolutely stunning restaurant and fantastic service. We enjoyed a night out as guests of the hotel, celebrating my partner's birthday. The menu and wine list were crafted with such excellence and attention to detail. We enjoyed a cocktail to start with and were really impressed by the selection and final outcome. The meals were seasonal with locally grown or sourced ingredients - the lamb was our highlight. The staff were not only there to serve us but guided us through the menu and helped us with the final choices, which I highly appreciated given the fact it was our first visit. Massive compliments to the team, I cannot recommend enough!
Beautiful food and setting. The refurbishment is amazing. We will definitely be back (post-lockdown!)
Excellent new restaurant and brasserie!!
The food was all delicious and immaculately presented. A lovely atmosphere with soft music, dim lighting and the lights shining off the river outside, unbeatable!!
Staff were all fantastic and made us feel very well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble.
We can’t wait to go back and will be booking up for all special occasions!
Lovely evening. Great service from our waitress Jennifer. We ate in The Orangery which was beautifully decorated. Wonderful wine list .
Delicious, beautifully cooked and presented food served in a wonderful setting. Service was friendly and attentive. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
The staff were excellent but the quality of the Sunday lunch was not great. My husband had to pour oil out of the Yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes seemed to have been kept warm for a period of time so not a great taste. The puddings were delicious however and the staff tried hard but probably wont be back. Such a shame
Lovely restaurant and lovely food, but my only criticism is that the service wasn't very personal.
We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. I had mentioned this when I booked and it was remembered on arrival which was lovely. Our waitress was very attentive, food and wine were delicious if a little pricey.
It had made all the necessary changes to be Covid compliant.
Had a lovely evening thank you
Starters were fabulous- prawn cocktail and dips and bread , chicken Milanese main a bit dry and plain, doughnuts amazing and a good espresso martini- took a little while to get some ketchup that we asked for otherwise we were happy - restaurant is beautiful
Lovely setting but the service was slow it took 20 minutes to get a drink and we had to leave the table at 7.15 for the next sitting. It has potential but there are some teething problems which I’m sure will be ironed out. Staff are lovely.
A real treat
This place is okay but nothing special. Food is fine but portions are small for the price. Service is inattentive and slow (for example, our drinks order was taken after the food order of a table seated after us, and it took ages for a card reader to arrive after we were given our bill). Wine by the glass is very good value however. Probably won't be back.
The food was absolutely incredible and the staff are amazing. The atmosphere and design of the place, as well, is flawless. If I had any complaints it would be that we had to leave at 10pm but that is certainly not their fault and they did a great job of packaging our delicious deserts up and not making us feel like we were being suddenly booted out because of the Gov curfew.
5* and would recommend to anyone & everyone! Lovely :D
This was our first visit to 1665 at the Mitre since their recent refurbishment of the hotel. One definitely needs a guide to get to your table! The restaurant is extensive but clever design still manages to make things feel a bit private. The menu is interesting, as was the cocktail list, but we really enjoyed the popcorn cauliflower (cauliflower popcorn?) as a starter. The mains were both well presented and tasty, if a bit smaller than our appetites demanded. As for the desserts, well we couldn’t go past the brownies, accompanied by a latté each. Overall, it was a very pleasant evening and couples who wish to dine as we did should expect to pay between £100 and £150.
Our first trip to the Mitre and definitely not the last! The food, ambience and decor was absolutely superb and we are excited for your future.
Excellent food and good service in a great setting overlooking the river. Especially nice if you have table by the window.
Pity about all the steps to reach the 1665 restaurant - difficult for buggies, impossible for wheelchairs. Didn't see a lift & no easier access offered.
Lovely spot for lunch. Delicious food and great ambience.
BeaverBrooks have done an excellent job on the renovation... I saw it last in December and it was very shabby and sadly almost empty.
The Cauliflower popcorn is to die for and the seafood curry was amazing...
I wish them every success and will definitely go back!
Wonderful atmosphere despite being covid safe. The staff were brilliant and the food and wine were delicious.
Maybe it was my food choices but I am afraid I was not impressed. I found my chair very uncomfortable but did not feel I could ask to change it - I should have done. Took ages to take our order. When our starters arrived we had to remind them that a cocktail had been ordered and not arrived.
My food was mediocre, my daughter enjoyed hers.
Our three course lunch plus one drink was £98 which seemed a little steep.
Sorry but I will not be returning.
The food was fantastic, great menu and well cooked and presented. It was a fun venue, lively and a good atmosphere. The one way system to the loos and wearing masks whenever you leave your table was very annoying, but obviously this is outside of the restaurant’s control. Can’t wait to visit again when life is back to normal and you don’t have to eat dinner at the children’s tea time!!
There was a bit of a mix-up when we arrived as I had phoned to book Afternoon Tea but was asked to book online instead which I did. However, the restaurant had thought my booking was for a late lunch! They didn’t have enough portions of Afternoon Tea for all 5 of us, so we shared 3 lots and were given a glass of fizz and some beignets in addition. In fact we had more than enough food, all of which was very tasty, and had a very pleasant afternoon. (I understand that the restaurant’s website has been updated since I booked and there is now a different procedure for booking Afternoon Tea).
Had a lovely evening in The Orangery. Food was delicious and the staff were wonderful - just the right level of service.
Beautiful interior design, formal restaurant but with a very relaxed, friendly and welcoming feel. The service was brilliant and the food was amazing. The wasabi seared tuna and Lamb Rump were especially good. My second visit in less than a week, this is definitely on my frequent dining list!
It is about time The Mitre Hotel has somewhere good to eat. 1665 Brasserie is very well decorated, comfy, provides good food with very good service. We have been here twice now, once for Sunday lunch and once for lunch during the week. Both times very much enjoyed.
The Sunday lunch provides a great choice of roasts, beef, lamb, pork or chicken as well as sharing platters where you get the joint in the middle of the table and carve it yourself. The mid-week lunch menu was also excellent.
Service is good and very friendly. This place has it sorted, good atmosphere, good food, good service and good value. I have already told others and took two guests for the mid-week lunch.
really nice place to eat. have been a few times now and have enjoyed every visit. will definatly be back.
They have had a major transformation, and only recently reopened.
The food, Sunday lunch, was fabulous, they even do a whole chicken for a family.
