94th Aero Squadron - San Diego
The restaurant was festive and the wait staff were very polite and well informed.
Good wine special, very good service, great rack of lamb, poor prime rib, all out of bibb lettuce.
We made reservations for 4:00. When we arrived there were people all the way out the door in the rain. We went to the desk to check in, then waited in our car. After an hour we decided to go to McDonald's. We were finally notified of our table after 1 1/2 hours.
I dont understand why you bother to take a reservation. A horrible experience.
While I would say that I would recommend 94th Aero Squadron as a restaurant, we will never go there again for Thanksgiving. The dinner there was a nightmare! The manager there should be let go after the debacle that was Thanksgiving. Even with weeks notice that it was going to rain on Thanksgiving, they allowed reservations to be filled with the expectation of using the patio tables. This was the excuse given for the delay in seating reservation times. They had every opportunity to rent some party tents that would have covered the patio tables and I'm sure people would have been willing to sit outside with tents and heaters, but they chose not to do so and instead made people wait outside in the rain for over an hour for their reservation time. We had an elderly aunt in a walker and had to wait in the car while other members waited in the cold outside the door. Everyone was upset and the atmosphere inside showed the anger everyone felt. Not a good holiday vibe at all! And to top it off, they ran out of pumpkin pie early in the day! How does that happen at a Thanksgiving dinner? We will go back for regular brunch and dinner, but we will never go there for a holiday dinner again! Such poor management decisions should be addressed.
I convinced my daughter and son-in-law that the 94th was a good place to go on Thanksgiving afternoon.
However, standing on line for an hour and a half to get a table was a little over the top.
The 94th's failure to provide benches or chairs for those on-line with a reservation was really bad.
The 94th really needs to teach its staff how to not overbook and how to handle an overbooking problem.
Staff was great.
Food was good except it would be nice to get salad and other foods not pre-made with a dressing.
We arrived on Thanksgiving at 2:30 in the pouring rain, for 2:45 reservation. There were a million people waiting at front of restaurant under awnings. We heard grumblings that the wait was 30 - 60 minutes due to the rain (outdoor seating unavailable). Our party of 6 moved into the bar (there were open seats) and waiting about 5 minutes before we were called for our table.
The food was average for the price (there was no pumpkin pie on the dessert table!), although the seafood was tasty. We all agreed the best part was the carving station with prime rib, turkey and ham. Our server, Cheryl, was outstanding and was so cheerful, even though she was super busy.
Considering the weather put a damper on the amount of seating available, the staff did an amazing job fitting everyone in as well they could.
The restaurant was way overbooked. We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation while others were reporting a 90minute delay pst their reservation. The process for checking and seating was chaotic and at times rude. The food was average with the presentation poor...no labels...you were left to guess.
Brunch was fantastic! The ribs they served were some of the best I’ve had. Eggs Benedict cooked to perfection. Shrimp ceviche was flavorful and delicious. Full omelet station with endless options. Desserts galore and so much more. Too much to list and the price was very reasonable. Don’t miss out on this one!
I have recommended this restaurant for years. It is a wonderful location and the food and ambiance are incredible.
Most Enjoyable brunch on the patio. Michael was our server and was excellent. Michael made sure our table was clear at all times and our champagne glass was always full much appreciated Michael . We will be back for sure.
I was looking forward to an amazing time and experience. We were at a nice table but discovered the tables were so close it made it difficult to not be part of their conversation.
Service was a bit slow but not miserable.
Half way through our dinner the service staff put together 3 tables for a party of 8 young ladies. We were 3 1/2 feet away from them. Needless to say they were celebrating and got incredibly loud.
Poor choice for the restaurant...they had an entire upper level to put this part on away from the 2 and3 people at tables for a dinner.
I would never go back and I will continue to tell people about lack of consideration for their customers. We couldn’t wait to get out of there....birthday dinner ruined.
I should have had the lunch buffet.........for $14-$15...........the best gig and i viewed the buffet, very clean, good looking food and plenty of options along with salad/soup and dessert. I had the burger, it was not good, my guest had the prime rib sandwich...........was good but their not jumping up and down. Stuffed mushrooms were a tad mushy and fishy, prime rib bites (appetizer) was a great sauce, but mostly fatty pieces of meat.
First of all, this was for my daughter's 27th birthday celebration. I sent a message to the restaurant asking for a table with a view near the buffet, as myself and 2 other family members in my party are disabled and needed close access. When we arrived, I let the hostess know that 2 members of the original party of 8 weren't able to make it and they asked us to wait. After waiting about 10 minutes to be seated, we were hustled to a table WAY IN THE BACK with ZERO VIEW and far away from the buffet!! After we sat down, wait staff gathering plates were rushing by and knocking into our chairs where my 8 year old granddaughter was stuck in between my husband and daughter unable to move. I was very upset but chose not to make a fuss. Well, we sat, & we sat, & we sat for almost 20 minutes with no water, no service, NOTHING! I was about to get up & ask for a manager when an older, bald gentlemen finally arrived at our table. The same gentleman I had watched the ENTIRE time bussing tables, filling special request orders on the lower level the entire time paying VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to the table of 2 young, beautiful women who sat by the window only to complain to the manager on their way out about something and the manager offering a 10% cut on their bill only to be told they wanted their ENTIRE meal compt. Really? Couldn't this have been done in a more discrete location? We finally got some water & waited ANOTHER 10+ minutes to get some champagne, again, really? With 3 of us on disability on fixed incomes, eating here at these prices had to be planned and SAVED for!! No champagne? We finally got to go eat and guess what?! NO PLATES!! Are you kidding me? After waiting for plates, we proceeded to the buffet. And guess what?! Dressings for the salad had crap in them, no tongs for getting a lot of the food and..help me with this..TIP BASKETS AT EVERY SERVICE STATION?? T A C K E Y!! SO much more happened. call me @951 420-9465. I have SO much to complain about!!! MAD!!
We enjoyed the meal and brought home half for lunch the next day.
Expensive Brunch with low quality flavorless food.
We were there celebrating a homecoming, a promotion and a retirement. It was fantastic. Thanks.
We had such a wonderful experience. Came to the restaurant on Halloween eve. It was advertised to dress up, but we were the only ones dressed up! The restaurant was almost empty, but we had such a great meal and a good time. Rack of lamb and the chicken Roland were exceptional! Can’t wait to go back.
I've been going to 94th Aero Squadron for years! I've never been disappointed. The lunch buffet is plentiful AND delicious, the staff was pleasant and kind and our waitress was very friendly and prompt. I had the Wonton Chicken Salad and it was very large , had lots of chicken and of course very GOOD!
Food was delicious and the waitress was fantastic. They had a table to accommodate the eight of us ready when we arrived. Thank You 94th Aero Squadron
A lovely evening. Beautiful surroundings, fabulous food & great service. The filet mignon and The ribeye with bearnaise sauce were cooked to perfection and delicious. The portions were generous— not so much that you were stuffed, but enough to fill you up, so we were able to (unwillingly) pass on the great-looking desserts. We’ll definitely go again next time we’re in San Diego.
Still as great as I remember starting waaaay back in years. Last few years just cocktails once a month.
Great Brunch spot we celebrated my brother birthday and it was 👍🏾
I have been to the 94 plenty of times and it never disappoints
Great value and delicious brunch, bottomless mimosas and amazing service, thank you for a relaxing Sunday!
We were totally surprised by the quality of the food!
Steaks were perfectly cooked and, prime quality.
The service was excellent, and we were not rushed.
The down side was the lack of ambience. While we were enjoying our great meal, staff was busily moving tables and stacking chairs. This was a Saturday night, and not even 8 p.m. When you are enjoying an exemplary steak, it’s a little disconcerting watching staff being more involved with the furniture than the consumers.
Not sure where management was, if they were even there.
Also, there were very young children playing outside the window near the fire pit, breaking branches off bushes and than setting them on fire. We pointed it out to our waiter who found a parent and thankfully, no one caught on fire and no furniture was set ablaze.
If the restaurant is still open on our next trip to San Diego , we will definitely return for a great meal, hopefully without the distractions.
The waiter was ok but seemed a bit distracted. There was a wedding going on in the courtyard, maybe that was it. The rice pilaf was too spicy, and the veggies were almost raw. But the salmon and the cheesecake were good. We arrived before 6 and ordered the early special.
Charming restaurant where the mood is set on arrival by the music playing at the entrance. The hostess was very welcoming and even stopped by to check on us during the meal. Our server, Sandra, was a model of cheerful competence. She was alert to anything we might want or need. Good food and wine. Chicken roulades were especially delicious.
Prime rib was good not great. Since I ordered it medium they soaked it and it was not crusty. Potato and bread were delicious! Price was very good for early bird. Our waitress was excellent. Lots of noisy kids.
Service was very slow food came out cold waited over an hour to get our order no fault of the waitress quality of steaks has gone way down very disappointed
Food was outstanding
Nice quiet relaxing dinner
Appetizers we good but dinner and desert Menu not executed well. Food soggy from salsa. Prime rib sad looking. Creme brûlée not finished with crisp top. Server stated that sometimes it’s hard to get cooks to do what they’re supposed to do. Menu ideas are good but for restaurant week to get us to come back it was a fail. Not worth the almost $200 we spent. I waited 10 years for this and was disappointed. Some of the items offered not on your regular menu either. Why would I return? Ambiance was way too dark. Couldn’t see a thing which caused people to use bright cell phone lights at other tables. Annoying. Waiter even commented on darkness.
The service received during Restaurant Week was fairly poor. The server assigned to our table was neither attentive nor friendly at first. I noticed he was more cordial with the other tables (e.g., checking on how everyone was doing, if the food was ok, and if there's anything else needed); however for my table he was very standoffish, quick to dismiss himself, and never checked on how we were. I found it quite odd especially because it wasn't a particularly busy night. So we asked to switch table locations and were about to get a new server, but our initial server followed us to deliver the main course. After we changed tables, the server finally started to check on us and chat a little. The restaurant's ambiance is fitting for its aero squadron theme. The food is okay but nothing really special. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.
Steven gave excellent service as always Food was great and we enjoyed having a window seat for a change instead of the booths we got to watch planes taking off and landing at Montgomery Field
Very good buffet, but the items sometimes lack temperature or seasoning.
Love this place! Will totally come back when we are back in town
One of our favorite restaurants when we visit friends in San Diego. Where else can you eat great food in a vintage environment and look out the window at a WWI airplane.
Great buffet selection, reasonably priced.
Had a very relaxed lunch with friends. We stayed for 3 hours and the restaurant staff was friendly and never gave us grief for staying so long. Two of my friends had lunch buffet and it was great!!
I always enjoy the prime rib. My wife enjoys the Salmon. We reserved our table and were seated right away.
The service is excellent and the environment is very comfortable.
