94th Aero Squadron - San Diego
There were 5 of us and I have a hard time walking, so we were seated on the same level as the main part of the buffet. Michael, our server, kept the champagne, orange and cranberry juice, well stocked. Food was constantly being replenished, and tasty. We totally enjoyed ourselves, and our dinning companions are planning on returning with their 3 kids, because it is a comfortable place for families.
Great, as always. We really go because of the airplanes hanging all over the place, but I still live the traditional steak and seafood menu. Bar drinks were good and service was friendly and efficient. Best skillet of sizzling mushroom around. Yum. It was a treat to return.
Always a favorite of ours for 30 years. Cool vintage aerodrome ambiance, good food, but classy place.
This was a horrible experience. We were not aware it was only “buffet “ on Father’s Day till we arrived. It was very expensive and the food was terrible. The food obviously had been sitting out for a long time and was only like warm. Service was mediocre as we had to ask more than once for our drinks to be served. This has always even a favorite for Father’s Day for us. We will certainly go elsewhere next time.
Went for fathers day buffet.
Got very bad attitude from host because we had a stroller. Sat and Waited along time before server greeted us at table. Never explained how the buffet works or anything.
And , isnt it supposed to be unlimited champagne? Had to Practically beg the server for refills.
Also had to beg for any server to pick up dirty plates. Sat with dirty plates in front of us so long even after we got back with new plates
Cook was eating while serving at the omelette station
No carver at the carving station for meats.
No claw cracking utensils for the crab.
Only ONE changing table in the family restroom which was occupied so went to ladies room with My 6 month old and had to change him on hard marble while people had to go over us to get paper towels to wash their hands. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
Excellent Sunday brunch. We were there for Father’s Day. Crowds and noise were expected. Even on such a busy day, we were seated right on time, the food on the brunch buffet was replenished constantly, and our server checked on us constantly. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We made reservations for Fathers Day Brunch ahead of time, we got seated an hour AFTER our reservation. The price went up about $20 because of the holiday, yet there was nothing different or special about their menu. It was the most chaotic experience I’ve had there thus far. The fruit looked like it was cut 2-3 days before, and not very fresh. The scrambled eggs were not fully cooked so I had to stand on the other line to get some well cooked scrambled eggs for my little one. We had to clear our own table because yeh waiter was extremely busy and was handling too many tables on his own. We also had to look for our own high chair as it never got to our table. The servers were very friendly and did their best at keeping a smile on their face, but we could see how hard they were working (over working). Maybe have extra staff on holidays? A little more lighting? A bigger buffet area? An “enter here/exit here” sign? Cleaner less slippery floors might be nice too. It was our third time coming to 94th Aero Squadron for brunch, but this time was the least enjoyable visit.
I made reservations in advance and there were many tables available when we arrived. However, we were sat in a secluded area facing the parking lot (came for the experience and view). The host asked my party to follow her and walked off abruptly mid-follow and we couldn't find her. Another host found us and asked us to follow him to our area in a corner. After nicely complaining to rude staff, we were sat on the patio. The waiter had minimal communication and gave us no direction ( we waited a long time for greeting). I asked a busser if this was customary and he told me yes and to just get up and find the buffet, yet I overheard another waiter greeting guests and explaining the buffet and where things were located. The food was meh, the roast beef was extremely bloody, glasses were dirty (food stuck on inside), and the cut pineapple was brown. The options were minimal for the price. I would not recommend this restaurant for the price and value received. I recommend going to Humphreys by the Bay instead for an always amazing champagne brunch experience.
We have gone to this brunch and enjoyed it for years. Great food, relaxing environment. My only complaint is the flow. We went on Father’s Day and had a really hard time moving from station to station. Ended up not getting everything I had planned on eating because I couldn’t easily get to the area.
It may not be a 5 star review but still a special place to take family and friends for special occasion.
My husband and I came here for dinner to celebrate father's day because he loves planes and he'd been wanting to try this place for awhile. We loved the building and its aviation decor was awesome. Its located right next to an airport and depending on your seating you can watch airplanes coming and going. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as was our waitress. It took a while to get our food after ordering(I wanna say like almost an hour). The food was ok, not terrible but not good and waaay overpriced for what it was. I had the $18 burger, almost $20 after adding cheese and Id compare it to average diner food. The bun was thick, dense and hard with flavor to match. Meat was a lil dry, overcooked and much smaller than the bun. I really love burgers so I was pretty disappointed. My husband had a steak which he said was 'just ok'. My favorite item was the baked potato which was cooked perfectly. Overall a good experience. Its worth trying especially if youre into military and aviation. It's so cute, a lot to see, and seems great for events. I don't think Id return simply because it's just too hard to justify price for this quality. And being foodies, thats where our wallet takes us.
Waitress was too busy, sat there for long periods of time with no one around, not too friendly taking order because she was too busy, got the order wrong, gave the wrong meat to two of our guests, my $18 well done hamburger was raw inside, waitress agreed, took back to cook, took 15 minutes to redo, by the time I got my food back all of our guests were finished, not a good experience for a birthday party, will not be going back.
Average service which is surprising to as they are usually great. Disappointed that they no longer accept Passport card with no notification.
Still worth coming to.
My company and I really enjoyed the Sunday unlimited mimosa brunch. The atmosphere was great, the food was good although they needed more people to man the stations. The only complaint I have if that the food needed to be tended to better, things ran out and the chips were stale. Other than those hiccups we had a great time
Went here to celebrate for my husband grandpa for early Father’s Day dinner. Everything was amazing except the steak temperature wasn’t what we ordered. My husband and I both order medium for our steak, when he got his steak, it was well done and for me it was well done also.
Delicious as always. Thanks for the view.
I only gave a 4 star because i’d Asked at the front desk for a couple of candles (bdays celebration.)
She said yes; didn’t happen. That was the reason why we went.
To celebrate with candles on their cakes and take pictures.
We've been coming to this restaurant for years, & this time brought out of town guests who used to live here. They remembered their food & experience from before so it was a natural choice.
This was one of the few times it wasn't a perfect night. The food seemed off, it just wasn't that good, the chefs in the kitchen seemed to be missing something or were irritated about something, and the focus was on setting up for the Sunday brunch. I understand that's busy day, but setting up tables & boxes and prepping everything all around the people who were eating was not ok. Our Server was terrific though, so that was still good.
I've had more good nights here than bad, so I'll give it one more try, but if this is the new normal under the "new" owners, then we won't be back.
Good food, friendly waiter, but the best part is the ambiance and decor. Will definitely be back.
the 94th is my favorite place to go & also to entertain friends & family..i have never had a bad experience & the food is fabulous
Food is average. Nothing special.
The food and service were exceptional as always. 94th is our favorite date destination when we have a night without the kids.
When we travel to San Diego, 94th Aero Squadron is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious and service is excellent.
We’ve (family) had brunch here many times; this time was the least favorite visit. I would prefer to not have a table next to the food line. The tables were arranged so closely that two people had to move themselves and chairs so that I could return to the food line. The scrambled eggs were very runny, almost not edible. The salmon was very fatty (skin?); it was not good. The rest of the food was very tasty. The waiter, Dean, was outstanding: efficient, polite, friendly and humorous; he appeared to not be overworked, although he probably was. Overall, an enjoyable time, thanks in large part to Dean. We will return.
A little disappointed they no longer take the passport card but the food and service was excellent.
Buffet was good. Only complaint is the guy who sliced and served roast beef tries to serve one, very thin, slice of meat. Then looks at you funny when you ask for more. Don’t be so cheap...
I really wanted to like this venue, It has an old school vibe coupled with classic American fare. However after dining there twice I will not be going back. I made a reservation on Open table and attended Saturday night service on 5-11-19 at 7:30. When my family and I arrived I began to already feel the tension from the moment I spoke to the hostess. I arrived at 7:34 and for a 7:30 reservation and had to wait till almost 8:00pm (Problem #1) for a table, the venue was not busy only about 50% of capacity was used. When a table was offered I was given a choice of a booth or table, we chose booth then an argument broke out between the server and the hostess (The hostess was looking to close her section down early). After a short moment we were seated at a table. (Problem #2) arose when our server informed us that bread was still being baked due to high demand. We received our food and were informed by another server that they were not making anymore bread. The manager cruised on by and gave us his best sad dog face, normally I would not care but it's a component of every entree we ordered. I did not ask for it but most restaurants that care would offer an appetizer or a discount on the final bill...no such customer service here. (Problem #3) - The food was subpar and expensive. I have a family of 4 and ordered 3 entrees, 1 appetizer, and two sodas. Bill was over $130. The dollar amount is not the issue for me but I did care that my prime rib was dry (manager made a comment how lucky I was to get it, apparently I should honored that I got the last piece...awwh thanks dude!) My kids split the seafood fettuccine...seafood part was okay but the noodles were very chewy and not even close to al dente. Wife ordered a Caesar salad with seafood, it was decent but nothing to write home about. The kids enjoyed the calamari appetizer and their soups. This is my second time at this venue and it is apparent they survive on their clientele who choose familiarity over quality.
This dinner was a disaster. Thr restaurant ran out of bread at 7:30pm Saturday night. When the waiter took the order he didn't mention that they were also out of cream corn that was supposed to come with every dish. When we asked him if cream corn was coming to the table he said no we are out of cream corn also. This was after he delivered everyone's main dish. I ask to talk to the manager. Tony sgowed up and introduced himself as a manager and simply said they miscalculated the night and he could give us 10% discount. Which I refused to take. I told him he should pay for our dinner. Be said 10% discount is best he can do.I told him I would rather pay the full bill than take 10% discount and He walked away. We have been going to this restaurant since 1990. Fred who owned the restaurant for a long time sold it and retired and now Tony and his crew are running it into the ground. It is very sad to see this restaurant tank like this. I highly recommend for everyone to think twice before making a plan to eat there. You will be disappointed as long as Tony is managing it.
94th is always our favorite place to celebrate any occasion. Realized we need to go more often and not just to celebrate!
The dinner was fantastic and the ambiance took me back to the days of the first world war
Great food, great service. Everyone in our party was very pleased. Thanks!
Great value for the money. Would have liked more to choose from.
We do not live close by and took a trek to this location expecting to use the "Passport Dining" card, BUT it had been discontinued. That was dissappointing as would have our group outing more affordable.
I've been here several times in the past and I highly recommend this place. The food, service andthe airport/ country setting makes this place a must for special occasions.
Great food, & quiet you can hear each other! Highly recommend!
Love the Sunday champagne brunch. Best buffet in town!!
My friends and I went here for Sunday brunch for her birthday. Bottomless champagne was wonderful and food is good, but our table was next to a big party so it was so noisy. Except it, a good experience.
Great Brunch! Good variety. Stuffed myself on snow crab, roast beef, and champagne. I would definitely recommend this as a great place to celebrate.
Dad’s birthday dinner
94th Aero Squadron is one of our favorite places to enjoy a delicious meal in San Diego...the food, the ambiance..the views..the service..all wonderful. We even got married here in the gazebo in the garden which is why we just celebrated our 2nd anniversary here!
