Afternoon Tea at The Imperial Hotel

I emailed the hotel prior informing them I don't have butter and didn't like certain sandwhich fillings (fussy eater!) When we arrived they had no clue about my requests so had to explain again. The sandwiches we got were dry and not much filling and was literally one sandwich sliced into 4 pieces. The scone was also disappointing as appeared just cheap/shop bought when for £10 I thought was poor value for money.
This was for my 40th birthday, a treat from a friend and we both felt it could have been better.
On a positive the champagne was lovely!
Just a lovely setting really enjoyed the experience will come back later in the year or early next year for perhaps a weekend stay
The service was very slow. The scones were small. The sandwiches had too much butter and too little filling. Overall I was disappointed.
Plenty of food offered with the Imperial Classic menu. Lots of salmon on the sandwiches was a particular favourite. Lovely little cakes and a great scone with cream and jam. We had a range of coffee, water and tea which all went down well. Would recommend at £16 per head. We visited mid afternoon and booked through OpenTable only the day before. Seated in the conversatory area where you could watch the world go by.
We received a warm welcome from the staff. It was a hot afternoon but the staff obligingly opened the very high windows on our request.
We were promptly served with our chosen Afternoon Tea. I was also offered a second cafetière which I accepted
A most pleasant experience which I would thoroughly recommend.
Amazing me and my mum thought it was amazing .and would be coming back
We didn't actually have afternoon tea, but rather a light lunch, which was really excellent, but we did look at the afternoon tea menu an thought that was really good value too.
Service felt cold, not welcoming.
Salmon sandwiches very salty, sandwiches freezing cold like they had been left in the fridge and not freshly made. Not great value for money in comparison to other afternoon teas in the area.
Staff seemed to have had a busy Mother's Day. Friendly and polite but some promoting required for some items such as milk for tea and forks for the cakes. Otherwise very enjoyable.
Booked through open table but on arrival found booking was a waste of time when we showed the confirmation letter we were told go and find a seat anyware, the waitress took our order and returned soon after with our food all the cakes were most enjoyable but the sandwiches were dry and not very appetising we would have told the waitress but after delivering our food we never saw her again until it came to paying the bill
It didn’t get off to a good start when the staff told us there was no booking despite having received confirmation by email the night before.
I don’t think the foreign lady knew what Afternoon tea was, as she asked us to pick what we want from the menu. Our voucher was confiscated in order to try figure out what to do with us and we felt uncomfortable.
Tea arrived, then the food so all went well apart from not being provided with any sugar for the tea or spoons or forks for the cake. The staff did not smile or apologise or ask if wanted anything else. I’m not keen on basics cheap white bread and spread that you use in the sandwiches.
Thankfully the local lady called Sarah (Woods) changed the mood and we were made to feel welcome. My commendation goes out to Sarah for being pleasant and helpful. She was kind to the other clientele too and nothing was too much trouble. Please review her pay as I’m sure you would benefit from retaining her.
It might be worth providing some training in hospitality to the foreign workers that you employee to improve the standards a little.
Very quiet and would be improved with some background music or such like.
Sea views
Friendly service
Elegant decor
We enjoyed our visit with great grandma
Disabled access ramps
High chair was provided
Lots of space
When we arrived ( on New Years Eve ) our booking hadn't been made !!!!! Don't know if this was the Hotel or Open Tables mistake but very bad on New Years Eve. The waitress was amazing and found us a table but I won't use Open Table again, I will always phone direct myself. This was a treat for my Niece so could have been bad. Waitress was 100%.
China cups and saucers would be nice, the staff seemed hassled and did not get the order correctly but soon sorted it out
Loved our afternoon tea here. We sat in the window of the sun room at the front of the hotel, looking out over the prom and the sea...wonderful. Service excellent, food excellent and outstanding views, what more could you want. We will definitely come again.
Lovely food. Great service. Amazing views. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to just sit and relax.
Had lovely food and a great sea view for our afternoon tea
Really lovely location and terrific service. Mum enjoyed the afternoon tea for her birthday.
Very pleasant experience, with excellent food and service and lovely sea view.
We can't praise the staff highly enough for their wonderful, friendly, efficient service at the Imperial. We were meeting with old friends from Germany and wanted to share a very British afternoon tea with them and they absolutely loved it. The food was superb and the surroundings lovely. We will come and do this again and would highly recommend it!
