We went for our team Christmas lunch and had the yayias set menu which was delicious. So many delectable courses and they catered to gluten free and nut free guests.
I am always satisfied when I dine at Alpha. It’s a fabulous restaurant.
Once again Alpha was a delightful venue for a lunch with friends. The food service and ambience was excellent. I love the way you can sit and relax after the meal.
Quality service and food. Look forward to more dining experiences with friends and family at Alpha in 2020.
Good food, atmosphere and service. Great time overall. Would do it again.
Would tecllommend but very noisy would advise people to book at the front with glass wall so less noise
Food was quite slow to arrive and not as good as previous meal we had there
Food was ordinary. Waitress forgot our order, hard to get served.
I know it’s a busy time of year but I think I’m done with Alpha.
A family lunch for my mothers birthday, we shared a banquet for 6 which was all very fresh and lovely. Service was excellent, and Mum was a happy lady at 84yrs young!
I ordered the yiayia lunch special and they forgot the spanokopita which I had to ask for. We also had the lamb and potatoes which I have had before at alpha and I was disappointed with the potatoes as they looked shrivelled up not sure what coating they put on these but they were dry and chewy and did not look appealing when they arrived. Lamb was ok but not to the normal alpha standard. I was quite disappointed with this lunch experience.
If the waiter knows the menu they can greatly assist you to select the right amount and variety of delicious offerings. Same with the wine list. If not you will work it out over several return visits. Noisy but fine if yoy get a great table. Had a wonderful time and can’t wait to return
The food at Alpha is fantastic! Their three roe taramasalata is probably the best thing in the world. We had good service as expected with the exception of dessert where we waited an hour before they served it. I would definitely go back.
Delicious meal, great service and the restaurant was airy, comfortable and peaceful
Food was quite good, especially the dips, entrees. The Saganaki was OK, but Feta was almost non-existent and prawns were a tad bland. Choc Hazelnut Baklava was very good, crisp and tasty with lovely fig icecream. Noise is a huge factor here - though it was Friday night so maybe this is not so every night. As the walls are lined with stone noise built up to a crescendo! Quietened down a bit later on. This was an important Birthday Party - I sent a request if they could provide a birthday cake as dessert 2 weeks before, admittedly via open table, but this was not responded to. When I rang, I was told a candle could be provided with Dessert, oh well. Service was a bit of a mix but overall good - waitress looked quite peeved when 2 of us did not stop talking immediately when she was ready to do the spiel, so that was odd. Also the waiter spilt a beer and lost about a third onto the table, they cleaned it up ok, but didn't offer to replace it.
Service was disappointing and inattentive. Food was good but has slipped since my previous time dining there. Overall was ok but would not go back again in a hurry. Feels like there has been a change of owners or management.
Food was fantastic, very flavoursome and great portions for the price. Loved the Greek spiced lamb shoulder, would come again just for this! Had a fantastic time, can’t wait to visit again.
The positive experience started the minute we entered Alpha, even though the noise level, entering from quiet Castlereagh Street was a surprise. But, it was Saturday night, and there were a few large tables that were obviously having a great time - it was a happy vibe. The design of Alpha was enticing - big windows, white columns supporting a high ceiling, lots of timber and comfy cushions, and the subtle touch of fishing nets. Contemporary yet warm.
Then the food came. I knew Alpha was the right choice the second I bit into the warm and juicy (yes juicy) Pita bread and the delicious Three Roe Taramasolata - which was light, fluffy and creamy with a slight seafood taste. The usual pink store-bought version will never pass my lips again - this was too divine.
My partner and I then shared the Spanner Crab Manti, Halloumi Saganaki and of course Greek Lamb - the latter falling apart with a fork. The generous portions were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. The staff throughout were attentive and discreet. Greek coffee and Chocolate Hazelnut Baklava with Fig ice cream and Roast Fig, brought the evening to it's close.
The only complaint - there's only so much that 2 people could eat. My Tip: Bring friends.
It was a bit cold in there. Lucky I brought a jacket. It was 30 degrees outside but so cold in there
Difficult to converse because of high noise levels - it was very full, clearly very popular! (Hard walls bounced back all the sounds). Tasty food, interesting menu, if we return we’ll take account of the generous portions, staff very pleasant and helpful.
Fabulous food, everything was so tasty and bursting with flavour. A perfect lunch catchup for 6. Yias Yias Table was the perfect choice.
Excellent food, service and value definitely hightly recommended!
Loved the ambiance and menu here. Great wine list too. We especially loved the lamb dishes. Something for everyone including our coeliac friend. Will be back soon!
Very food and service consistency delivered...but it's a very noisy restaurant.
Wonderful food in a gorgeous space that was not crowded, not noisy and amazing service. Amazing!
Service was poor, food delivery was delayed and then all share meals arrived together, I have been before but this time service was poor
Very average for what you claim to be. I booked in for a special occasion and it was not special at all. The food was excellent but that’s it
This is one of my 'go to' restaurants in Sydney.
The food is consistently good.
Service, inconsistent, and slow.
SUGGESTION- As the first dish always takes a LOOONG time to come out, may I suggest some complimentary olives or bread sticks.
Just a thought... from a regular.
Love love loved it! Will definitely be back again soon
Food was nice but came out far too quickly. Even after asking for it to come out slower.
Inauthentic and lacks heart.
Reasonable at best
Amazing food - the stand out was the pumpkin dish!
One of the best restaurants I have been to in Sydney. Every dish was delicious. The filo pastry of the spanakopita was amazing. The lamb shoulder was so tender and delicious. The service was good and the venue is cool. It was a Wednesday evening so not as busy as a Friday or Saturday so I rated the ambience a bit lower but I’m sure it would have a pumping atmosphere on the weekend.
Delicious food, attentive service - a wonderful experience. I'll be back.
Great food and service, always recommended to friends. We will be back again
I went to alpha a few years ago and have wanted to go back ever since. On this occasion I took my husband for his birthday - really disappointed in the experience. Lack of knowledgeable staff, inattentive service, food was very ordinary in comparison to the first time i went, ordinary ambience, just so much worse than the first tine... sorry!
Hi Melissa, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your dining experience. We'd like to get in touch with you to find out more details. Please kindly reply to this email at your earliest convenience. Kind regards, Alpha Management
I love this place the food is excellent. I always go for the lamb as it is very tender and the loukoumades within the deserts which are consistently delicious. It is very clean and a great atmosphere.
Food wa excellent, Greek lamb was very yummy. Downside was ordered sparkling water. They could not keep that, every time the glass got lower it was topped up by whatever was at hand. Only the first and last refill were correct
We have been to many Greek restaurants in most states and I easily put alpha at the top, you can really see the care taken to prepare there dishes , seriously outstanding. Never had lamb done like this before, his version of taramasalata again amazing even the pita bread is done just right with care.
My wife and I are always disappointed with city restaurants but Alpha was a very pleasant surprise. Very good value , friendly but still sophisticated , beautiful food , great selection and also a good wine list.
We will be returning. The waitress (a French girl and it was her first night) took great care of our party of four.
Service was excellent since it was a quiet night; the food was lovely but I think 2 tentacles when you order octopus is rather skimpy; the loukoumades were very doughy; the decor is very nice which presents a rather nice ambience. Also, hubby was well looked after being lactose intolerant.
