Antipodea Kew

First time here and overall pretty impressed. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the ambiance is sort of half way between a cafe and a restaurant - not too formal but it still felt like a bit of a night out.

The Thai squid starter was excellent - actual Thai flavours (trust me - I lived in Bangkok for 3 years) and big enough to share if you are not famished. Then we opted for the rump steak, with fries and buttered spinach. The steak was good if not exceptional and the bits and bobs were fine (the spinach was rather good I thought). Both the glass of SB to start and Shiraz with the steak were very drinkable indeed and not overpriced.

All in all very convenient, being a stone's throw from the tube station, and very pleasant. We will definitely be back (lockdown permitting) and would certainly recommend this as a good 'casual dining' option.

Visited today and was shocked the restaurant has not been setup for social distancing, too many tables and chefs working close together with no masks. Really disappointed, when raised with the management was told they had been told to operate this way by their head office. It is inconsiderate and selfish companies like this that explain why london is heading for tier 3

Went to this restaurant for my Birthday.

My partner’s fillet stake came medium well when he ordered medium rare, and it was extremely salty. When a new steak arrived 20 minutes later, after everyone else had finished their meals, the steak was well done, he cut though the steak and it was white and dry. So this was returned again and he opted not to anything in the end. Which was upsetting for us all.

Also when the first steak was returned, he got up to go to the gents, and as he walked past, heard and say the waiter explaining what was wrong with the steak to the chef and which table had complained, to which the chef replied “well he’s just a C*nt”.

It was supposed to be a special birthday meal. Our last birthday before our first is born. So it was very disappointing.

The service staff were nice and did try and apologise. But it didn’t really make up for it.

Great ‘family bubble’ meal following our trip to Kew Xmas Lights. Pizzas and burgers all round, freshly cooked and very tasty.

Very pleasant evening, we just had pizza's, but they were sadly too salty to finish. Apart from that the waiting staff were lovely (perhaps a tad slow) and there was a great atmosphere. I would visit again.

The meal was lovely. I had the beef burger which you could was freshly made. The service & ambiance of the restaurant was awesome. I would definitely recommend this.

I had a really nice dinner at Antipodea in Kew in December with a good friend. The Chicken and Leek pie was really nice but it is not very big so order some chips as well to make sure you feel full afterwards - at least if you are only having one course like we did. My friend had the steak and really enjoyed that too. Staff was helpful and the ambience is very nice too - so will definitely be back.

We had an amazing time at Antipodea. The service was perfect, not too pushy but the waiters and waitresses were always happy to help. Food was incredible and wasn't a long wait despite being a busy night. Reasonable prices too for the high quality. Would highly recommend!

Great little restaurant, it was our second visit and we’d definitely go again. My husband loved his steak and he is fussy! Good pizza apparently and my fishcake and fries were delicious. Friendly efficient service. Well spaced tables and the wood fired pizza oven made it all very cosy. Extremely convenient for the station and Kew Gardens.

Delicious food and drinks. The pizzas were amazing. Staff were attentive and polite. Will be back.

Buttermilk chicken burger was great, energiser smoothie also. Pizza was a little heavy on the tomato sauce but it was tasty all the same.

Great service, loved the food. It was the last day before lockdown so a lot of things not on the menu but can't they went above and beyond to compensate for that. Love this restaurant!

We also have lunch here before a stroll through kew gardens. My chicken and leek pie was a little small however the chicken burger looked great. The food was a little slow coming to the table although this could be related to covid and staff shortages. We will be back.

My first visit to Antipodea (Kew) was for brunch on a day off, and at first glance it looked like just the right place - quite a cool, modern vibe, good menu with plenty of choice, quiet, an easy place to chat with friends, work, or just hang out. The service was good - relaxed and unhurried.

The coffee was good and the freshly squeezed orange juice was great - but when the bacon sandwich (with extra avocado) came it was quite disappointing. The bread was a bit doughy but fine; however the bacon could definitely have done with more cooking, and whatever had happened to the tomato wasn't good - it tasted sweet and over-ripe in a weird way, and the flavour overpowered the rest of the sandwich. Definitely one of the more disappointing bacon sandwiches I've experienced.

It was harder to forgive the sarnie disappointment when the bill came - just over £27 for the coffee, the orange juice, the sandwich (I'd ordered extra avocado but still...), and the optional-but-automatically-applied 12.5% service charge. The weird taste and the poor value mean I don't think I'll be returning.

Great cocktail, lovely milkshake, food was amazing. Planning a revisit for the tomahawk steak.

Service was a bit patchy to start with, but improved and consideration has to be given for working under COVID restrictions. Overall a pleasant experience and the manager, as well as the lady who took the booking, were both superb.

Second time visiting Antipodea in Kew. It’s a lovely restaurant and the staff are very friendly, the food very homely and good.
What could be improved is the speed of the service. We felt it wasn’t very busy but the service was very slow. It took 45 minutes from arriving to getting a drink and then just over an hour for the breakfast to arrive. The breakfasts also came out at different times, there was only two of us. The restaurant was also very cold, understandably the door is left open probably to help with ventilation, but wasn’t nice when you have come in from the cold and you’re still feeling cold sat dining.
I would love to return as the food is super delicious, I just hope some improvements are made.

Great atmosphere and lovely food

Too noisy place, despite a very relaxing decor the place is so noisy we couldn't even hear each other at the same table.
Food is nice but so expensive for what you get. I wouldn't return.

I ordered a coffee and wasn't given sugar. When I asked for sugar I wasn't given a spoon. This happened the last time I came in too. Overall, the staff didn't check in on my table to see if things were ok. Thanks for the lovely coffee though - always delicious.

Another wonderful meal at Antipodea! Delicious food, great service, lovely ambience. Only feedback is from my partner, who ordered the Eggs Benedict and was a bit surprised by the smaller portion size for the price point. I think he would have enjoyed having the eggs spread over two slices of toast, rather than just the one. But still, absolutely delicious!

We had a very enjoyable brunch at Antipodea. Service was good. Staff were PPEd up and it felt very safe.

Great décor and atmosphere and a good selection on the menu. Minor issue forgetting one side dish but was brought out quickly when brought to attention and it was very busy at the time. Food was well portioned and delicious and service was very friendly and accommodating.

The staff were enthusiastic and helpful, we enjoyed the food and wine and the atmosphere was good - in all, a fun night out. Can't fault it really.

Great evening. Brilliant staff. Would cone again.
