Everyone in our party absolutely loved the food!
great food & drinks- hostess even saved us 2 bar seats, per my request on the reservation- love this place!
Very enjoyable first experience!
The atmosphere is cool: a quaint, yet funky kinda retro vibe. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating, and our server, Phillip, was probably the best I’ve ever experienced! ... Super friendly, upbeat, and attentive without hovering. The menu is eclectic, and our two different entrees (steak frites and chicken over mashed potatoes) were delicious and not overpriced... which is refreshing compared to many other downtown restaurants.
The bar is kinda small, but it’s a full bar and I was impressed by their choice of which craft beers to serve with only four taps.
We definitely will dine there again.
Loved it. Super cool and funky. Great food. Distracted service - our first course and entrees arrived simultaneously. Drink service similar. Good Negroni, though. Will definitely return.
Having been a regular patron for a year and Ravi g about the Aux Bar in past reviews, I am disappointed that it seems to be slipping. The roast beef po boy is much less generous and I’m not even sure if fried onions are still being added on the sandwich. The onion soup which has been the best in town tends to be too salty and the cheese not always browned on top. Here’s hoping Stephen Goff recalibrated back to his old standards. The waiter was pleasant but food did not arrive timely for all diners and orders were confused.
Good lunch. Not the menu listed but still good.
Waitress was great even though they were short staffed. Food and drinks came out quickly. I had the catfish and grits which was delicious but we were not totally happy with steak frites. We reviewed the menu before going due to my fiancé having some food restrictions to find that the menu was different from the one posted which limited what we could order. Still a really cool spot for a quick bite
We took the three course option they had. My wife and I shared the delicious hummus and the pimento cheese and pork rinds. She had the catfish and grits and I had the pork shoulder and collards. Both were outstanding. Our only disappointment was the dessert. We chose the vanilla ice cream and the smoked apple pie-like dessert.
Our server was an absolute delight and we look forward to our next visit there.
Went for restaurant week menu. Excellent!!
The pork rinds with pimento cheese were fantastic. The chicken was good and the dessert was delish
It is a fun and funky place, with food that was fairly good. However, their shortcomings outweighed that. Service was snitty and unprofessional. We ordered two entrees that came out separately. When we questioned why, they said they were doing it tapas style. Except, they do not mention they are a tapas restaurant anywhere on the website or menu. Their explanation was that they had small items on the menu, so it was tapas style. When the second entree did come out, the steak ordered medium well was medium rare. When we mentioned that, the response was again snotty. The manager actually said that since they had red lights in the place, they couldn't tell the difference in the meat doneness. Mistakes happen, so a polite apology would have been acceptable and we would have been fine. But, a series of ridiculous excuses and surly attitudes make this a place to which we will not return and would never recommend.
Great brunch visit at the bar with a hipster nice bartender with blue hair with a fun attitude. Made us great drinks and we enjoyed duck wings and brunch meals that were delicious. Casual bistro atmosphere with delicious food: I came back the next day for the fewest lemon sour cocktail ! Yum.
Definitely return for bar. Bar food with better ingredients. Everyone tries.
The catfish was outstanding. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly.
New Year’s Eve and we were lucky enough to get a reservation before the symphony. Great food and just a couple blocks from US Cellular Center.
We have always loved Aux Bar, the food is amazing and fun. However out last visit was a bit bumpy service wise, we reserved in advanced and were seated quickly. We did wait 15-20 minutes to be greeted by server and have drink order taken, there seemed to be front of house confusion, which we are understanding of but were totally ignored by staff for a solid 15 minutes. Once the ball got rolling the food was on point as always. We will be back, but walked away a bit mystified by the failure in what is generally great service.
The service was terrific. Everyone to whom I spoke was warm and welcoming. The food was hit or miss. The burger, pimento cheese and pork rinds, and pickled eggs were very good. The flounder and fried chicken were hot and fresh, but bland. However, the seafood chowder and mashed potatoes that accompanied them were good. Our to go order of chicken was better than the in-house order. I’d definitely pay a return visit for the appetizers and service.
Always a good bet... open early. Open late. Love it every time
They were super hospitable and the food was amazing. Perfect spot for an anniversary dinner we didn’t feel rushed either which is incredibly important to me. I want to be able to enjoy my food and I was definitely able to do that. Really appreciated the experience.
The environment was really cool and relaxed (punk rock vibes). The service was kind of spotty.. she was really nice but there was a point when we thought she forgot about us. It was a pretty busy night though so we were fine. The food was pretty good.. I've definitely had better burgers. Would recommend the deviled eggs and duck wings!
We had a fun Thanksgiving night supper there. Fun vibe, great service and food.
Food was good although not exceptional. Our server was friendly and informed but there were some lapses in service. We considered ordering the highly touted bread pudding but everyone in the large party across from us that ordered it left more than half on their plate. We inquired, and they reported it to be ordinary and "not worth the price." So we skipped dessert--don't want to waste calories on mediocre sweets!
Not impressed. Thanksgiving dinner was not good. Menu was confusing, waitress was indifferent, and the food was served at 5min-10min intervals. We were a party of 6 and dinner came out cold, portions were tiny, and definitely not at the same time. We only ordered entree and dessert. The bread pudding was awful. Tho my Mom said the flourless chocolate cake was good. No mixed drinks just a beer and 5 iced teas. My husband never got his 2nd beer. All in all, it was a dinner we will talk about for years to come(and not in a good way), and at least we can laugh about it now. We joked how we would stop at another place to eat on the way home...
Firstly, I want to commend Aux Bar for their service. My boyfriend and I had to change our reservation time a few times and they still accommodated our special requests. So bravo to the staff! Upon walking in, they were all so friendly. We ordered the duck wings and a couple of drinks to start. The wings were under the small plates section but let me tell you, they were not small at all. I was expecting tapas-sized portion but it was a hefty amount of food and it tasted great. We ordered steak frites and the beef stew. Both were nice, but to be honest I was so full from the wings that I didn’t get to really savor the beef stew. The steak was cooked nicely to medium rare, more so on the rare side, which is how we like it.
We came by quite late, at around 9:45, on a Saturday night so we were told that the place does turn into a bar with a DJ around 10:30-11:00. Visiting from out of town, we decided to stay after dinner and check out the scene. We’re very happy we did. The DJ was playing good rap/hip hop music with a sprinkle of pop songs here and there so that made for great dancing. Drinks were fairly cheap too!
Overall, my boyfriend and I had a great experience at Aux Bar and we already talked about coming back next time we visit Asheville!
Welcoming environment. Menu was adventurous and delicious. Drinks were very good. Would definitely recommend for late night bites and some fun music.
The fried chicken was amazing. And the hush puppies were too notch. They didn’t even need the sauce that came with them. Stellar!!!! And don’t miss the vinegar pie.
Good food, liked the vibe, excellent service! The vinegar pie was disappointing... blah crust and zero custard.
Great local fare! I’ve been to Aux bar before and enjoyed again this time. Love that there are small plates to mix and match or entrees. I ordered a ruby salad and beef stew and loved them both. Service was friendly and excellent. Great spot downtown Asheville.
Great food and awesome service!
Despite the poor rating I am giving last Friday's experience, I would recommend Aux Bar to others. I have to believe it was just an off night? The service we received was really terrible, and I suspect it was a combination of both wait staff and kitchen issues. The cocktail I ordered was unavailable, though my martini was fine. Our meals arrived before all the drinks had been brought to the table, but my salad wasn't served until after my entree, and my friend never received the soup she ordered. The food that we did receive was delicious. Our server was ready to push us out the door; he never asked if we wanted another round of drinks and he assumed we didn't want dessert, which we did. There were no choices here, since only one of the two desserts was available. We had the vinegar pie, which I would describe as a fruit tart. I enjoyed the flavor, but it needed to be served heated, or at least at room temperature. I would expect better in the future.
Very disappointed in the food. We had read so many things about the chef and was very excited to try it. Was possibly one of the worst meals we have had in Asheville. Service was great. Had a genuinely nice young lady who was new and a very knowledgeable server who backed her up wait on us.
The pork rinds were great. The pimento cheese was a different color on the outside than when you got a scoop of it. The oysters - first one was great, second one was old fishy tasting, and the third was on the verge of being spoiled. The mignonette was great however.
The Demi- glacé on the steak was broken and tasted like burnt motor oil. The meat was good but gamey.
The best part of the meal was the fries. They were delicious.
The service was so wonderful and friendly. The food was off the hook!
Very disappointing. Dry, very overcooked duck wings with little meat and way too much cloying sweet potato coating; California fries too soggy to eat even though ordered crisp. Pork ribs with pimiento cheese not bad. Would not go back. Unfortunate.
It was a very rainy night so the restaurant was crowded with cold, wet, hungry people. The staff was amazing - they sorted everyone crowding the door area quickly and effectively. We had a reservation - recommended - and sat us quickly. The food is interesting bar and cafe food, not particularly memorable but made quickly and the ingredients were fresh. The fried options were a bit greasy but good. Not many GF items. The highlights were the staff - charming, gracious, interesting - and the cocktails. The house special Margarita was absolutely delicious and a generous pour. My date had a local IPA that was clean and hoppy with a lick of citrus - wonderful.
Great food. Great service. There were 8 of us. We got our food in a timely fashion. Service was on top of things and very courteous. Do if d was outstanding
The beverages, food and service were all outstanding. Phillip and the rest of the staff were all very attentive, professional and made us feel very welcome and anxious to make a return visit on our next trip to Asheville.
Food was served quickly, drinks were great, deals were great, and the service was impeccable. We went on a Sunday night and it was fantastic!
Good place, good food, good ambience. Would recommend,
Food was fair at best. Nothing special about this restaurant.
Great place and super service
We had large group- very accommodating! Excellent and friendly service.
