Fish Fry – Walleye, Pacific Cod, Shrimp
Hand-breaded walleye in Shore Lunch and served with house-made tartar sauce
The service was poor from the start. The young man was nice but not knowledgeable of the menu. The food was not what I was expecting for the price. My sirloin was not seasoned well I ordered it medium and it was almost burnt on the outside and rare on the inside. My friend had the salmon with asparagus and the seasoning was not good on the salmon and the asparagus was not cooked properly. My friend who had the shrimp said it was good. We could not tell our waiter that there were issues with the food because he never came back to the table. He also never brought the popovers for our table.
The menu was small—which would’ve been fine if done very well but for the price I was definitely disappointed in the preparation. Coupled with the fact that our server never smiled at us, acted like we were bothering her and when she set down our mains, had to push our starter AND soups out of the way with the plates just made for a lack-luster $140 meal for 2
The food was wonderful. The popovers are my favorite!
Our server was the poorest that we have had in many years. We dined outside on a Saturday night at 6:30 on a beautiful summer evening. Maybe the waitstaff was trying to cover inside tables and outside tables. We saw little of the servers with many other staff members doing the majority of the work other than taking the order, delivering a cocktail, checking on satisfaction of the entree and handling the check.
Fun restaurant. Food was way too salty though. Not heart healthy
Dined outside. Nice ambiance. Friendly wait staff. Wonderful food!
We love going to Axel’s. The food is always great, service is top-notch and ambience is wonderful. We frequently have the walleye which is first-rate. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal.
Waitress was cranky and unfriendly. Seemed irritated. Walleye was not hot, nor was the baked potato. Popovers were clearly not fresh. Overall D- experience, which is really sad as we have been coming here for years, ever since it was the Riveria. This was the first time we have ever had an experience like this at Axels. Quality and service were extremely sub-par and disappointing.
Three out of four of us had great meals with one having over cooked salmon and cold beans. Service was overall great but long periods of not seeing her.
Attentive knowledgeable server made our meal a very enjoyable experience.
Took 20 minutes to get waited on, additional 1 hour and 45 minutes to get the food, food was under cooked and their signature walleye was full of bones.
This was a very great experience! Couldn’t have enjoyed an evening more. We got a warm greeting from the Hostess. They honored our request for the patio and sat us on a quiet, warm corner and was asked if we wanted drinks immediately. We were served our food promptly after ordering and it was delicious! Our friends asked to split a walleye dinner and the chef was kind enough to have it beautifully evenly plated for each diner. I had a delicious
and generous portion of a lovely fried chicken sandwich. Piled high with tomato and lettuce on a soft bakery bun. My husband’s chicken penne was just the right amount of spice and sauce, hot and also generous. Overall, we will be back soon and want to try the warm, cozy and romantic indoor seating as well. Thank you to our fun and attentive server who could not have been more cheerful and helpful!
Hopefully our experience was due to pandemic return rustiness, but it wasn't a good service experience. We waited 45 minutes for drinks, an hour for our salads, then when the food came, one meal was completely wrong. It took 20 minutes to bring the right item - the cioppino - which was terrific, but hardly worth it after 80 mins. Parmesan crusted walleye wasn't crispy, but may have been because it wasn't delivered quickly. Manager was helpful with resolving our frustration, but generally a disappointing experience.
We always go to Axels, Chanhassen or Mendota Heights, for our special dinners. We know what to expect with each visit and receive top service and food.
Spicey Chicken Penne was amazing!! Our server Joanne was excellent!!!!
I want to thank the staff for being so accommodating. We got the table we wanted and we got there after 8:00 pm. We were the very last to leave after closing but everyone was very nice about it.
Food was great - coconut shrimp and salmon entrees. Green beans great as usual. Ample portions, great salads and pop-overs too. Expensive but worth it, particularly for special occasions. Good service too.
The dinner and service were very good. Typical of our expectations of Axel's. Our primary Axel's is the Mendota location. However, both the men's and women's bathrooms were well below expectations. Difficult to say when they were last cleaned and the rooms appeared to be OLD and not maintained or upgraded.
We were excited to try a new place on our recent trip around an out of town wedding. It has a true supper club feel that my husband likes and the menu matches that. We tried a pasta dish, scallop dinner, and prime rib dinner. All were fine - nothing so good we’d hurry back. What really dampened our experience was our server - we wanted a leisurely dinner and cocktails, but she waited on us like we were on a thirty minute timer, shoved our check across the table without asking if we were interested in an after dinner drink or dessert, and was kind of annoyed when we did want dessert. Too bad. We were in and out in under an hour - not what you want for a $200 dinner.
We celebrated an anniversary and our server (Ashley) was efficient and friendly. Their popovers are so good and the Walleye was delicious. Nice and quiet!
We love it here
The food was terrible. Soup was cold. Prime rib was cold and tough. Not at all worth the cost. We hadn’t been to Axels in over a year and were extremely disappointed.
Wait staff was helpful and courteous. Offered beverage selection of white wine. Refilled water regularly. Appropriately checked to see if we were ready to order. Excellent food. Checked in to see if food selection was to our liking
It’s been years since we dined at Axel’s and it was nothing like we remembered. It’s dated, tired and in desperate need of a cleaning and a refresh. The service was incredibly poor and although our waiter certainly apologized a lot, he was overwhelmed in the role.
The food was pretty underwhelming except for the “Bull Bites” which were seasoned nicely and tasted pretty good. Sadly, I doubt we will return.
Fantastic food and attentive service!
I do not recall the name of our waitress but she was outstanding. The service was perfect, not intrusive. Food was served hot, which I love. Will return!
We had a wonderful evening celebrating multiple birthdays, wedding engagement and a wedding anniversary. Our server Jessica was fantastic and the food was great! We look forward to when you have the crab legs special back on your weekly menu.
Great dinner at Axel’s last night! The food was great, fabulous service! Highly recommend Axel’s!
We had Walley- very nicely done. Service was excellent.
Service was slow. Food not good. Prime rib was well done. Bathrooms were filthy.
Our wait person was very helpful and kind Carrie.
I took my mom out for Mother’s Day on Sunday evening at 7 PM and they were out of three major food items such as the steak tenderloin and the shrimp. Considering it was Covid I guess I will give them some slack. But it was our first time there and I think I guess overall it was a good time. Just trying to compare to other steak houses and I think this place still have what it takes but I feel like I should go there during another time to get a real feel for it.
We were very thankful to get in on last minute booking on Mother's Day. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of fruit, loaded baked potatoes, etc for dinner. Our server was very friendly but you could tell she was overwhelmed with the day. She forgot to bring us silverware and messed up on three out of our four orders. We didn't complain, as we knew that this was the first weekend that restaurants were experiencing a surge due to covid restrictions easing and it being a Holiday.
We haven't been to Axels in several years. We're glad we went back, great service and great food. The Prime Rib was excellent
We had a party of 5 seated in a private space meant to hold 18 people. Our table was pressed up against the back wall which felt Isolated. The service was a little slow from the bar. Food service was fine. Menu items were limited for brunch. The food was adequate but could have had a little more imagination or creativity.
Our first visit to the chanhassen location. It was wonderful. Excellent filet for me and my husband enjoyed the fish dinner. Thank you for making our anniversary special.
Excellent service, quality food, and great atmosphere.
Birthday reservations, Very expensive steak for so much fat and not being done correctly. Scallops were not flavorful and basically like rubber, shrimp very greasy. Axel’s used to be such an amazing place to go there ambience hits it on the Mark they really just need to focus on their service and make sure what’s coming out of the kitchen is up to par with her pricing.
Wait staff was very good. Seated in a move booth and location. Popovers were exceptionally good.
