Young Bonnie Prince Charlie's Beef Wellington
You know Charlie, the rightful King of Scotland. When there was an allegiance with France and Scotland against the English, this was another of his favourite meals while in France. Tender Ream's filet steak cooked medium rare, with seasoned, sherry-soaked mushrooms encased with puff pastry. After baking, it is finished with a surrounding rich red wine sauce. Our Bonnie Prince loved this. Dine like our Scottish King. Served with our Chef's choice of two vegetables and two potatoes.
Gleneagles' Rack of Venison
Agghhh. Best of the best venison. You will not be disappointed. Tender, sweet and moist. Little hint of herbs in the roasting, with a light reduction sauce. Maybe the best you will ever taste. Tell me if it's not, honest truth. Just a fantastic dish. Served with our Chef's choice of two vegetables and two potatoes.
Musselburgh's Fish and Chips
Boneless filet of haddock. If you went to a 'Scottish chippy', this is what you would get: real chips and real fish, as it's cooked in Scotland. Succulent fish in our beer batter with mushy peas and our house-made tartar sauce. I eat this weekly, reminds me of home.
Absolutely unbelievably amazing!! I had the venison my wife had the beef Wellington both were perfect! Earl was amazing helping me pick the perfect whiskeys that matches my favorite taste! Collin, the owner!, Checked on our end also advised on some amazing Scottish dishes like the scotch eggs, they even have a bagpiper! This place is all around amazing we will certainly return again!
Earl the bartender sets the stage for what you can expect all evening. Impeccable, friendly service only to be matched by the 5 star menu, atmosphere & presentation!
Wonderful experience! Everything was outstanding.
Always friendly staff and the bartender is GREAT! Missed seeing the owner walking around table to table. Food was excellent!
Amazing food, service and ambiance!! Great selections on food and drinks. A must dining experience!!
Outstanding service and delicious food! Made our anniversary memorable! Thank you!
This is a gem of a restaurant. Old fashioned friendliness, excellent service and an amazing representation and execution of Scotland's cuisine. Food is well prepared with obvious attention to detail. If the food isn't enough of a reason, and it is a good reason to go, you need to explore the whiskey list. Just outstanding. Yes it is a bit pricey but I believe the pricing to be fair given the quality of the food.
Clean, very welcoming, friendly, amazing list of whiskey, will be going back on a regular basis !
Balmoral staff are first class !
What a wonderful surprise!. Never expected to find such an atmosphere and food quality in the suburbs. I will no questions be back there soon.
Cool place, great menu choices
This restaurant is a hidden gem. We would definitely go again. Higher end prices for some folks, but worth every penny.
This was our first dinning experience at Balmoral. We went early and the services was good; however within a half-hour the restaurant began filling up and the service deteriorated rapidly. By the time our entree arrived, we couldn't even get our water glasses refilled. The True Scotch Egg was excellent. My Beef Wellington was supposed to be served medium rare, bur was cooked all the way through and was tepid by the time it was served. My wife ordered Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. The waitress said the restaurant was out of rutabagas and the neeps were not being served. (Every time I've had neeps in Scotland they were made from turnips.). I will say the restaurant only employed one waitress and I thought she was inordinately overworked.
From an incredibly involved owner, to a great server, and to great food, this place is a jewel. Beef Wellington features excellent filet, the chicken was amazing, and you have to try the haggis.
All of us had been to Balmoral before and enjoyed it very much. This time was different. It was very loud and the service was very slow and not attentive like we have experienced in the past. This was a Friday night and given the current employment situation(seems like no one wants to work) Perhaps they were short staffed. The food was good except for one person at our table had a too done filet. She did not tell our waitress. The slowest part was getting a drink.
Outstanding dining experience. The food quality was excellent and the selection options remarkable. A great meal and wonderful time.
Celebrated our kids' birthdays. A quiet Sunday afternoon dinner. Salmon, venison, haggis and pork chop were all cooked just right. The sides and appetizers were filling. We took no take home bags. Service excellent.
Fine dining for sure. We have been here once for a special occasion. We were greeted at tree front door by a gentleman playing a bagpipe. Great start! The service was excellent, Anna was our server. Although she has only worked there a few months she was super, she couldn't get any better. Both my wife and I started with an Old Fashioned. Very good. For starters we had the mushrooms and I must say that I've never had any better. I ordered the Manor duck (I think that's what it was called). I would definitely recommend that. Again, the best that I've ever had. My wife ordered shrimp and they were huge and very tasty. They looked like mini lobsters. Our sides were green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes and small fingerling potatoes. Our dessert was a shortbread toffee covered with chocolate. Good but not great. Overall an excellent experience and I will definitely go back for a special occasion. It was a bit pricey but I felt worth it.
Fantastic experience! The atmosphere is charming, fun, and cozy. All of the staff were cheerful and added to the amazing experience. The food was delicious. The steamed salmon was the best salmon I have had--fresh and perfectly cooked. The beef Wellington was above and beyond. Make sure to save room for dessert- delicious choices.
Wonderful as usual! Overall top notch experience!
Restaurant was a bit louder than usual this visit, as there was a kid's birthday dinner. Food was amazing as always! Check out the new furniture in the bar area - so fun!
A menu like no other in the Chicago Metro Area. Unique drinks, and if you are a Scottish whiskey aficionado, you will be in "seventh heaven." Highly recommended for that special occasion.
We loved everything about Balmoral restaurant. We had a wonderful meal , they were very nice and loved grandmas finest china.
They didn't rush you to leave and you could relax and have great conversation with your party. We were there for our Anniversary.
We will definitely be back.
Balmoral continues to be the place to go for a special dining experience.
Excellent food st and ambiance
Great. So upscale, China, crystal, food, everything. I would absolutely come back and highly recommend it.
The elegant cut crystal glassware, the fine Royal Albert china and linen tablecloth and napkins all made for a most elegant dining experience. On to of that, the food was excellent! We spent the evening savoring sips of craft cocktails and fine wine, along with tasting food cooked to our specific order. It was definitely a lovely slow food experience! And it was wonderful.
Excellent food, terrific service! I love Balmoral!
Another awesome dinner at the bar with Earl! Great to see Colin too!!
This was our first trip to Balmoral and the first time I have ever eaten at a Scottish restaurant. The rooms, furnishings and dinnerware presented a very British Isles atmosphere and made us feel special. The service was outstanding and the food was awesome. I am 79% Scottish, so I couldn't help but order the Haggis appetizer. It was really good. The duck and braised leg of lamb entrees were scrumptious. The desserts were beautiful and more than enough. We will plan to return for another special occasion.
We like this nice and unique Scottish place. Food was very good, served on beautiful china, drinks delicious. It was little things that made this experience not quite perfect. They forgot to bring salad before dinner which one of our guests ordered. Then they asked us what occasion we're celebrating, it was double birthday- nobody said anything afterwards- no special little piece of cake (which usually restaurants serve for birthday person). So, to summarize we liked the place and we had a good time, but it wasn’t perfect.
We finally returned to Balmoral to celebrate a birthday!
We had drinks to start, followed by an assortment of delicious homemade bread and a mixed salad to start with their lovely Stilton dressing! For our main course we had the Beef Wellington, cooked perfectly, lovely pastry, and so hard to find at restaurants. We ended the meal with the sticky toffee pudding, so yummy! It’s a treat to eat here and we look forward to returning. Service was great as well. Looking forward to returning soon!
Very nice restaurant. Authentic and has a home-ish feel. This is a wonderful Scottish dining experience
Beef Wellington and fish and chips were very good.
Caesar salad was poor and leek soup was not hot.
Service was too slow was and it was very loud.
Still we love the place!
Great food and great service with an outstanding décor. My wife and been there multiple times and always enjoy going back!
It was wonderful. From the bag pipe player at the door and a very good staff. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. I will and have already recommended this restaurant to many of our friends.
The bagpipes were a treat to hear at the entrance
Food was unique and excellent
This place is a gem and one of the best restaurants I've ever been too. The decor, creative menu and extensive cocktail lists makes going there seem like the first time every time. And if you want to be attended to by the best bartender bar none, Earl is the man!
another great dinner! Our new favorite restaurant. Earl (working the bar) is the best!
