Young Bonnie Prince Charlie's Beef Wellington
You know Charlie, the rightful King of Scotland. When there was an allegiance with France and Scotland against the English, this was another of his favourite meals while in France. Tender Ream's filet steak cooked medium rare, with seasoned, sherry-soaked mushrooms encased with puff pastry. After baking, it is finished with a surrounding rich red wine sauce. Our Bonnie Prince loved this. Dine like our Scottish King. Served with our Chef's choice of two vegetables and two potatoes.
Gleneagles' Rack of Venison
Agghhh. Best of the best venison. You will not be disappointed. Tender, sweet and moist. Little hint of herbs in the roasting, with a light reduction sauce. Maybe the best you will ever taste. Tell me if it's not, honest truth. Just a fantastic dish. Served with our Chef's choice of two vegetables and two potatoes.
Musselburgh's Fish and Chips
Boneless filet of haddock. If you went to a 'Scottish chippy', this is what you would get: real chips and real fish, as it's cooked in Scotland. Succulent fish in our beer batter with mushy peas and our house-made tartar sauce. I eat this weekly, reminds me of home.
The food is always amazing.
Great experience once again! Thanks Balmoral for a wonderful Mother's Day dinner! The food was fantastic and great service every time.
You'll feel as if you are part of the family when you dine at Balmoral.
Authentic experience, fine traditional Scottish fare in a wonderful setting, served by friendly staff. China and glassware notable which complemented the dining experience. And the scotch selection is nothing less than spectacular.
Excellent Scottish menu! Cooked to perfection with care. Attention to every detail. Relax and enjoy your special meal!
First time at the Balmoral and it was sooooo amazing! Chauncey was our server and was excellent. We were so excited with the entrance having the bagpipes and the decor. It was the coolest restaurant with the decor, ambiance and amazing drinks and food! Can't wait to try the tea service!
Very Good food, great ambience would definitely return.
We loved our evening at Balmoral! It was a unique and memorable experience. Can’t wait to go back!
Super enjoyable place to dine. Ambiance was one of a kind, spectacular! Food was delicious! Service was very attentive. Such a great restaurant. It was a random pick, out of our area, but plan to make the trip back to enjoy the fantastic experience again. Highly recommend.
First time here. Maddie was a phenomenal server. Everything was so good. Pea soup, garlic mushrooms, lamb chops and the huge porch chop. All delish. Highly recommend
We wholeheartedly enjoyed our first time to the Balmoral and first time to having Scottish fare. Food and drinks were flavorful and delicious! Service was impeccable! We look forward to coming back and making the Balmoral our new favorite!
Fantastic place! Went there for the first time on a date night and will definitely be going back! First the drinks were amazing, then the food was absolutely amazing, and the ambiance makes it so worth it (No matter if you order food or not!). Out of 5 gold stars, I’d give this hidden gem a 10! My new favorite restaurant hands down!
Great meal! Great service. Wonderful food experience!!
Having been to Balmoral many times, we have come to expect a high quality of service and food preparation. Unfortunately, that was not the case for this visit. We were seated by the kitchen doors (our choice) and some of the servers went through the doors so fast that the door would slam into the wall behind us (place foam pads/cushioning on the doors?).
Our steaks came out cooked one level higher than we ordered (medium rare became medium) and the table was never cleared in between courses making it difficult to create enough room to eat the main course.
Our bill was north of $200 which was expected, but there are other places that have equally as high level of service and menu quality for a lesser price. The saving grace was our server, Chauncey, who was attentive and pleasant.
Will we be back? Probably, but we will be looking to other similar restaurants for a special night out.
Absolutely amazing. Great service and fantastic food
Always a delightful experience! Not to be missed dining as the food is exceptional!
This was our 4th visit. We had a wonderful time enjoying Afternoon Tea starting with a specialty cocktail and then three tiers of deliciousness with all the trimmings.
Wonderful service and very good fare for a birthday celebration.
Balmoral never disappoints! The food is always amazing and my husband is still dreaming about the pork chop!
Balmoral is always amazing! The food is phenomenal and the service is usually spot on unless they are blown away busy! They have a huge menu and you can’t go wrong with any entree.
We’ve eaten here several times because it’s a nice ambience and want to support our local restaurants. The atmosphere is very pleasant with bag pipers playing upon entering and if someone has a birthday. The service is fast and friendly. The food is good but usually way too much salt. Even the mashed potatoes and vegetables have a lot of salt. This was not just my opinion but the consensus of our party the last several times we’ve gone there. It’s worth a visit just remind them light on the salt.
First time back since covid. Had been doing carry out which was good but not the same. Balmoral is as much about the service as it is about the food. Both were just as outstanding as we had remembered. Colin is always a joy and it was nice to hear the bagpipes again. We will be back soon !!
Always a relaxed ambiance, always great food, and too many options on the menu! Had the salmon (which was wonderful even the next day when I had leftovers) and shared two appetizers with our dinner partners. One ordered the steak (he raved about how well it was prepared), and the other two had the chicken and loved the sauce. Balmoral continues to be my favorite local restaurant.
Sarah IS the BEST!!! Thank you for making our Anniversary memorable!
Excellent service and outstanding food and drink. We had salmon, pork chop and trout. Steak is good too. Watermelon, goat cheese and shrimp app. Raspberries, flour less chocolate cake, and shortbread with Carmel and chocolate. Cherry sour smash was delicious.
Our favorite restaurant in St. Charles. Menu choices, food, drinks and service are outstanding. Sabrina was our waitress and she is simply the best! Tentative to everyone and every detail of fine service.
As always Colin and his staff provide a wonderful dining experience with beautiful plating and delicious food. Waiter we had was very attentive
The ambiance is unreal its beautiful inside and out! We consider ourselves as foodies and this place is that! Everyone was attentive and felt like home! Everything we order was AMAZING! Can't wait to go back and try new dishes! This one is a keeper on our list for places to eat!
Everything was good. Food can be a bit heavy, but that is the nature of Scottish food:).
First time here...what a gem!!! You can tell it is a labor of love for the owner and he wants to share his Scottish roots with everyone!!!! Will definitely be going back!
Wonderful meal with great service! Goat cheese salad was terrific and the chicken with bacon and blue cheese sauce to die for! Very generous portions and we were able to enjoy dinner without feeling rushed.
Another great dinner!! Missed seeing Earl but we will see him next time!
The food was excellent. They have a very wide variety of scotches. A gentlemen greets you at the door playing bagpipes. A good time for one and all!
Amazing service... only comment is our diet prohibits so from eating potato’s... and they would not allow us to substitute.
The chairs are too short for the tables, had to find two taller ones and saw others doing the same.
Prefer individual potatoes/veggies not family style. Asked for a few more pieces of the soda bread and got only ends, prefer middle as it's already a dry bread. two in our group ordered the salmon on the last page, don't know why the pudding was a bonus with that since it's not very good, if you are offering something special with those meals on the back page it should be something perceived as special not a big crescent dough biscuit. (just my opinion, maybe others love it)
Server was very nice. Hostess was extremely nice. Restaurant looks beautiful.
Food was good but pricey but we knew that going in. Since my husband and his two sisters are Scottish I thought this to be a nice treat.
What a fantastic experience and hidden gem way out in the western suburbs! Delicious food, kind and attentive service, and a whiskey list that dreams are made of! Can't wait to go back.
This was our first visit to Balmoral and it exceeded our expectations. Our appetizer and main entrees were absolutely delicious, our server was attentive and made personal recommendations of many dishes, and the atmosphere made us feel like we were in the Laird’s manor. The only disappointment was the dessert size. We thought it would be a tad larger than it actually was, but it tasted delicious nonetheless. Not really a complaint. This restaurant is a little pricey ($6 for a cup of coffee) but for special occasions we would return again.
Excellent as always, glad to see the full menu is available!
Will be back to try afternoon tea
Took my mother for tea to celebrate her birthday. Everything was delicious. Always appreciate the service level from ownership on down.
