Fabulous food! And, really nice cocktails menu. Sadly, our dinner was delivered to another table...and they ate it. Server never came out to check on us after our dinner had been brought out from the kitchen. When the server finally showed up to deliver our pre-ordered desserts, we finally got to share that we didn't get our dinner. Finally got to enjoy our dinner more than 90 minutes after being seated. Manager was apologetic. Entire team very attentive afterwards. But, it did dampen our overall impression of this restaurant.

Food was good. The service was poor. More waitresses are needed. The timing of food needs to improve and please provide the appropriate eating utensil with the dish and not ask every time would you like a 'spoon or fork' as it should be obvious.
The room has very poor acoustics.
Our server was wonderful, very attentive and sweet. Penne in vodka sauce wasn't very good and the shrimp we added just tasted burnt and took over the dish. Chicken parm was good but the sauce on the noodles was bland and had no flavor. calamari was good but not crisp enough for my taste. Would not go back with the other options available in the area.

We spent 2-1/2 hours there to get our main course meal for valentines dinner. Definitely not a place to take your loved one on a special occasion
Ruined Valentines Dinner - my worst dining experience in a long time. Our waiter was fired before we even got our appetizer! 2 hours of waiting, with little to no service. Food was average to bad. There were people complaining all around us. I will never go back. Awful. Very disappointed. Won’t last long in this town.
Was a very good meal, they just got overwhelmed for Valentines Day and the meal took about 2 hours....would like to go another time when the holiday doesn’t stretch the kitchen too far
We love this place but was very sorry to see that the Quattro Formaggio pasta was taken off the menu. Hands down our favorite dish. We had lamb and butternut ravioli and both were tasty. We liked our meal and will recommend.
Waiters had obviously never waited on tables before, brought the wrong dessert to our table 3 times....brought a dessert to the table next to us before their main course arrived. It took two hours for our meal....
Wonderful hostess! Friendly greeting when we arrived (why is that so rare these days?). She also helped us with deciding on cocktails and wine later. Good server - extremely friendly and quick to help us with food/drink requests. Ciopinna was DELICIOUS! Chicken parm tasty too.
New menu and great presentation of our selected dishes. You won't be disappointed.

It was a special night, the restaurant was full, our group was having fun and the service was outstanding. The food.... that’s where it all fell apart. A very meager charcuterie plate, two shavings of sausage and two small pieces of cheese - not the cheeses in the menu. Lasagna Semplici - we could not find or taste the house made basel pasta sheets. The rabbit ragu was fantastic, delicious pasta coated with a glistening ragu.
Mary was wonderful - the food was excellent and we will definitely be back!
Everything about our dinner was great. There was an unexpected party in the back which impacted our reservation, but the restaurant was very accommodating and we were fine with eating at the bar. It turned out to be a great choice as Eric, the bartender, was the best. Entertaining, enlightening and an excellent mixologist. Also, his food recommendations were spot-on. We'll be back.
Took family that was in town for the holidays. Ambiance was nicer than expected. Friendly personable staff was great. Food was good, but didn’t wow us. However, we were informed that the chef was out sick, so it may not have been there best night. Based on the service, will go again.
They were short handed and the service was really slow. We had to wait 20 minutes for the server to ask for our beverage order. Every part of our experience was extremely slow.
The food was Ok but the service made our dinner experience terrible.

Disappointing. Fish had a long black hair in it. That can happen...then the spaghetti and mussels came. Nothing like discovering mussels that are raw on the inside after you put them in your mouth. Felt bad for the server— she did her best. Meatball appetizer was good.

Great recommendations from our server for my friend who had not been there before. Food was outstanding! Limoncellotini was delicious. Definitely will keep coming back!

Food was very good & the bread was amazing!! Our server was excellent. Nice bar. Love the fact that it’s back in the front of the restaurant. Only negative was that they ran out of things & we were there early in the evening. They ran out of the wine I was drinking, as well as the beer my husband was drinking and one of the specials.
Usually better. Extremely busy, we sat right near the ever opening kitchen door which shined fluorescent lights on us, my tuna was over cooked, the noise level was high as tables were pushed closer together to accommodate a private party, an order of a glass of wine never came, and the calamari was dry yet greasy.
Maybe we will go again after the holidays but was disappointed in a restaurant we’ve been to several times before.
We have eaten here numerous times and we actually discuss before going that you have great atmosphere and great food, but the service always lacks. We come with our patience hoping the service and food/beverage timing will be better than the last time we visited, but it hasn't seemed to improve over the last year. The servers we have experienced are not attentive at all. Our last visit, the food was dropped off and the server disappeared before we could even look at our plates. We all wanted Parmesan to top our pastas but after 10 minutes of the server not returning we sought them out to get the cheese for our now cold pasta and it took another 5 minutes for them to find the grater and return to the table. Almost comical... Also our appetizers were delivered at the same time as our entrees without explanation. Love the food, but not always a relaxing experience.
Bait and switch! Beautiful full menu on line but, when you get to this restaurant, the menu they give you is a quarter of what they show on line. When we asked the sever about this she said “yeah, they changed it a little while ago and have not updated it on line” I also though it was a “special” menu because it was the day before thanksgiving and it was a one sheet paper menu and the server confirmed it was the normal, entire menu. We were extremely disappointed and left and ended up eating next store at Firestone’s which was amazing.
This was our second visit. It did not disappoint either time. The food and service were both excellent.
We decided to try something new downtown (we’ve lived in Frederick City for 25 years), as we usually stick with the same 6-7 places. Bella looks like a hole in the wall from the street but beyond the front tables a hallway takes you to a spacious dining area. We stuck with the daily specials - ahi tuni with shrimp, calamari, etc; another with ahi tuna over tortellini with Gorgonzola and carrots. A weird combination but delicious. Orrichetti (?) off the regular menu was fantastic as well. Portions were perfect. Appetizers- ahi Tuna with Asian pears- very good, and the chicken liver pate with figs - amazing on the grilled bread it is served with - and very filling. Cocktails featured McClintock and other local ingredients too. Great menu, a little slow getting the entrees, but it was all obviously made to order and worth the wait- we didn’t really notice anyway since we had drinks and appetizers. Definitely going back as a new regular spot that doesn’t cost a fortune.

Very nice ambiance after we were moved due to a very loud child next to our table. The management was very accommodating and moved us to a nice table in front. The server moved with us and we were glad because she was superlative. The food was terrific ... the dessert was as well. When we commented on the local honey used to drizzle on top of the dessert, the manager came out with a container of honey for us to take home! Overall, a wonderful experience.

The food was okay. Entrees were mediocre. Grilled octopus was the best. However, the service was the worst experience in awhile. Slow...very slow....very very slow.
Great location (Market Street, downtown Frederick). Great atmosphere, with great front bar area and both indoor, and outside patio seating in the back. The food & service is excellent! We had the chicken piccata, and the market steak (special). Both were excellent, and the sides were as well. I reserved the table via Open Table, and made note it was my mother's birthday. They treated my mother special, and wished her a happy birthday, and at the end of the meal came out with a special piece of birthday cake for her, with a candle in it (and chocolate syrup on the plate spelling "Happy Birthday"). I have been to Bella's many times and always find it to be a top-shelf experience, soup to nuts. I highly recommend it for a nice quiet night out, or for mid-to large groups as well. * I have attended several wine dinners here and they do a great job accommodating the full house at these events. - Sam Vitale

My guests and I really enjoyed our dinner at Bella Trattoria. Our server, Nichole, was very knowledgeable about the menu and had a relaxed, casual, friendly attitude while still being quite gracious. What I liked: the Red Beet Gnocchi was deliciously creative. I would certainly order it again and again. The crab cake was all crab meat, no filler, and perfectly done. The aioli which complimented it was delicious. The Beef Bolognese with hand cut pasta was exactly what I wanted. The chicken meatballs served with spaghetti were made from chunked meat, not ground chicken, which gave them a unique texture – very tasty. The complementary loaf of garlic bread was some of the best house-baked bread I have ever enjoyed in a restaurant. Improvements I would have liked to have seen: the “spicy” marinara served with sautéed mussels fell short, bordering on bland. It could have benefitted from more cayenne, garlic, and herbs. The house draft beers (from the craft brewery across the street, owned by the same restaurant group as Bella) lacked body, tasting watered-down. There was no hint of berry in the so-called blueberry ale, the IPA lacked the citrus hoppiness characteristic of an IPA, and the house ale was just okay. There was a cruet of olive oil on the table: it seemed to be a low quality oil and it tasted like it had been sitting out too long, like the bottle had just been refilled with oil over the course of weeks or months without refreshing the contents of the cruet. I would have preferred a fresher, higher quality EVOO served alongside some balsamic vinegar and/or a dish of coarsely ground salt and pepper and dried herbs to custom-season the oil. I am giving the restaurant five stars because of the excellent service and to acknowledge that what they did well, they really excelled at. If four-and-a half stars was an option, that would have been my rating of choice.
