Berto is a hand-made fresh pasta concept from the team behind neighbourhood pizzeria Zia Lucia (www.zialucia.com). The authentic, artisanal pasta restaurant will sit next to its sister venue on Holloway Road. Just as Zia Lucia uses different flours to create four signature pizza doughs, Berto serves a selection of pasta doughs made from traditional, wholemeal and gluten free flours. The concise menu focuses on intricately created and simply served fresh pasta, made onsite daily. Hand-crafted pastas include fresh egg tagliatelle and pappardelle, vegan pici, gnocchi and filled pasta such as ravioli, all effortlessly dressed with both classic and inventive sauces made with the finest Italian produce. Maintaining its ethos of great value genuine Italian food, all generous pasta dishes at Berto are priced from £8 – £13 and the menu also features a changing selection of seasonal specials.

If it was for the food only, Berto was a very good place to go to. Portions are generous and the pasta is cooked to perfection. The slightly sluggish service and sterile atmosphere take away from the fun though.

Excellent new pasta restaurant from the same stable as pizzaria, Zia Lucia. Wonderful food and great value for money at this buzzy location on Holloway Road. Definitely coming back!

The service was quick but having debated between whether to go to Berto or Zia Lucia next door we decided on Berto.

The food came out quickly and was reasonably priced but the portions were small (we went to Zia Lucia after as we were still hungry and a little disappointed). The pasta was nothing special, the spaghetti seemed more like soba noodles and the staff didn’t seem too Interested to be there or help even though it was pretty quiet. The restaurant was also really cold.

Appreciate it’s a new business and probably still working out the kinks but small things like only serving the wine we wanted by the bottle with only one white option by the glass was a bit frustrating.

Perhaps disappointment was from such high expectations set by Zia Lucia (same company) which is fantastic. For a restaurant serving only pasta I was underwhelmed by what we were served.

Wish them all the best for the future and hope the kinks get worked out as the place and the concept has good potential.

They are unable to cater for people who suffer with nut allergies- a real shame.

Amazing food everything is so fresh and at decent prices. Only recommendation I would make is for tables near the windows if heating can be added/or drapes to keep people warm when seated there. Other than that would definitely be back!

Very average food and disinterested service. My pasta was lukewarm. We had booked a table but we asked to move to accommodate a large group without a booking. Not a problem but could have been handled with a bit more charm.

Pasta nothing special. My partner had rabbit ragu which was a bit more interesting at least. Fritti mixed vegetables were overly chunky and needed aioli to counterbalance the stodge. Wine and salami were supermarket quality, no better.

We won’t be back. Super average and the service was totally disengaged. I understand this is a spin-off of the pizza place next door which was packed so possibly worth trying. There are a lot of more interesting Italian places in London to try before this place though.
