Very friendly staff. And the marrow and gnocchi meals were particularly good! We'll come again.
Everything from the customer service to the food was wonderful. I was just bummed that I couldn’t eat anymore. We will be back though!!
Jeremy was great and very attentive despite the increasing amount of tables he was servicing. Awesome food. Chef’s Choice of cured meats were impeccable and a must try!
We like the food. The pizzas and the pastas are excellent.
Delicious pizzas and pastas, we went with a large group and they were very accommodating. Our server gave top notch recommendations for food, drinks, and desserts.
Best pizza since returning from Italy this summer!
The pizza was as good as advertised and the service was spectacular. The prices are a bit steep but hey, you're paying for the best ingredients and fantastic work in the kitchen. When you consider the quality of your meal, the price is totally worth it.
The ambiance was that of a food court cafeteria. Food was bland, uninspiring and under cooked. Al dente = rubbery consistency. They ran out of lamb and the chicken before 730 PM and I was stuck with what was left which were pasta dishes. $30 for a plate of pasta that I could have made myself and better. The service was at least very good. Our server was very attentive and diligent. This venue was rated 4+ stars. That was either a mistake or the owner made all his friends write great reviews to receive such a high rating. These high reviews are starting to look like participation trophies. Quality has officially taken a back seat at this restaurant .
Could have been great but wasn’t. Multi course order all came out in random order like sides ready before apps and mains were stone cold as they held them back for likely more than 20 mins. Some items never came out and still appeared on bill. Would like to give them another try as food quality was high and vibe was great. Need better wait staff or better Comms between front and back of house.
I have been here once before and thought it was excellent. This time the food was just ok. Arugula salad was great and the best part of the meal. Burrata should be served at room temp but was cold and the tiny crostini’s tasted stale and was not enough bread for the portion. The mushroom pizza was soggy and left something to be desired. All in all expensive for what it was. If they put a little more care in the food it would be worth the price. The service was great!
Did this place get its 4+ star rating the same way bad products do on Amazon? The food was OK, but the papardelle in particular had a tiny portion not at all worth the price. The casarecce with braised oxtail had a nice sauce, but the oxtail pieces were mostly sharp pieces of bone and big globs of fat. The restaurant also plays exclusively late 90s/early 2000s pop, which is a weird choice. Crazy in Love and Are You That Somebody are cool tracks, but they don't really mesh with the authentic-but-new-Italian vibe they're going for. This restaurant was created by an algorithm.
All first experiences should be like this. The service was great from the very first moment and did not disappoint throughout. Our server, Jeremy, provided a great experience including recommendations that were all backed by unique and delicious dishes. We’d never been before but will definitely be back again.
Food was very good! The gluten free pizza was excellent and we both enjoyed our meals. Service was good. I was expecting a slightly more upscale dining experience based on the reservation policy, but it was very casual. We would absolutely go again and recommended it to friends who live in the area.
This is one of my new favorites. Looked for a restaurant close to Symphony Hall and was reluctant based on a few prior reviews. However, my experience was exceptional. The lobster and smoked clam risotto was outstanding (don't expect tons of lobster or creamy texture, but expect amazing and complex flavors and textures). Server recommended and let me sample a couple of wines, both of which paired very nicely. The bread is phenomenal. The caprese salad was not traditional and very uniquely prepared, but it was nothing less than extraordinary. Service was prompt, and the server was attentive, very kind, and always available. The prices were no different than comparable restaurants downtown. I'm definitely going back.
Everything was good but certainly overpriced. Service was pretty fantastic.
The food was delicious but pasta was a small portion and very expensive ($30 carbonara). The wait staff was more interested in hanging with talking to each other than serving tables. Our party of 2 felt invisible. We had to make the first move - from ordering our first drink (15 minute wait even though we were seated) to ordering our food to ordering a second round and then having to ask for the check. No one ever came over to see how the food was or if we wanted dessert. Terrible service which would keep me from returning.
Great italian food, excellent service, great ambiance. Only downgraded slightly because kitchen closed at 9pm, which seems a bit early to me for a downtown restaurant. So long as you go early, you won't be disappointed!
Server was awesome! Didn’t know which wine to choose and he brought a selection to taste. He was excited to do his job, and that’s what made him a genuinely good server. Food was on the lower end of “ok”. Gluten free noodles were far overcooked, bone marrow was quite small and didn’t have flavor.
Excellent pizza's (Eggplant and Fungi), delicious Burrata and Prosciutto, decadent Gnocchi, and very good Brussel Sprout's. Nice ambiance. Good service. Great location for evenings out downtown.
Overall a good experience! Food was nice and the waiter was really friendly. All the recommended dishes were excellent. My only complain is none of the secondi were available when we went.. so that was a bit disappointing. Food/drinks are on the pricier side but decent quality.
We had an early dinner here after a Sunday matinee at SD City Ballet. We usually come here on these occasions. At that time, the restaurant is not noisy (I don’t know how it gets later in the evening or on other nights). The food is good — the pizza dough is particularly good — and the service was very attentive and prompt. The interior is stylish in an “industrial chic” kind of way, and comfortable. Good vibe. We will return.
Way over priced pasta dishes and meager portions combine for a feeling of being ripped off.
The stone fruit salad is a must!
Food was mediocre at best. Rock music in an Italian restaurant while wait staff observed dancing near kitchen seemed out of place. Had to seek waiter twice to get his attention. One and done. Food is clearly not a priority.
What a wonderful evening! After we showed an interest, Chef Carlos hooked us up with some of the delicious pickles and fermentations he's been working on lately. The pizza was top notch and the service was too. We can't wait to come back.
Food and service was great. Definitely recommend!
Good for pizza and some pasta. Cafeteria style place, not great.
The bread here is phenomenal
The food was amazing! Definitely recommend the meat and cheese board. The pasta was very yummy and the salad was fresh and enjoyable. I’m glad we were able to stop in and highly recommend a visit.
We enjoy the pizza and ambience at Biga. We eat there frequently.
I read that BIGA is the best restaurant in the Gaslight Quarter of San Diego. If true...it doesn't bode well for the district. I was surprised by their extremely strict reservation policy that threatened to charge $20 per person for a no show...very unusual. Perhaps that is why there were relatively few people in the restaurant on a Thursday evening with an important concert nearby. My wife and I went with the "special" which may have been a mistake. It was a lasagna with salad and a glass of wine for $30. A good value but I suspect there were much better things on the menu. Our server was fine and the place was OK. I just wouldn't recommend it as I can't point to anything that was particularly noteworthy.
The food was very special - not the standard run of the mill and very tasty.
Great food and wine selection. Chicken Four Ways was delicious and all locally sourced specifically for their restaurant. Friendly staff. Large bar and open kitchen. Highly recommend.
First time at BIGA and enjoyed it. Our waiter was nice and attentive, and the food was delicious. Would definitely go back if I am in the neighborhood.
Way overpriced. For gnocchi and carbonara to cost nearly $30 apiece is over the top. Carbornara was way too wet. Gnocchi seemed rubbery. Roasted carrots were excellent. Flatbread with gnocchi very good. Wine by glass also pricey. Nice wait person. Don’t think we’d return.
It felt more like a coffee shop (with bright lights) than a restaurant with typical mid to high prices. We sat next to a four by four foot pot of dirt that apparently used to have a tree in it. They should have it covered. The staff is very nice which helped make it pleasant. We were there on a Saturday night, 6 people. Food was good but not great.
I was really craving Italian and read glowing reviews of Biga. I just wasn’t blown away especially for the price. The food was all good but nothing spectacular.
Such delicious food, ambiance, and wine! I would recommend the gnocchi to anyone that goes.
We enjoyed the evening but the restaurant was not a major reason. Service was friendly and personal but I had to ask our waiter's name. The food isn't bad but it's very expensive for what you get. Our dinner for four with not that much liquor (only beer and wine are served) was well over $300 before tip.
The place was almost empty, although we were there from 6:30 to after 9. They also ask for a credit card to make a reservation, odd since they had so few diners. Don't expect this place to be around for long with the competition in Gaslamp.
