Bill's Restaurant & Bar - Guildford
Service was a huge let down. Despite booking we waited for ages to be greeted and taken to our table.
The waiter was rude and clearly didn't want to be there. Rolled his eyes when we asked for water for the table and then had to remind him when it never arrived.
Food is what you'd expect from a Bills but service in Guidford is extremely poor.
Delicious food and staff and chef were really helpful with my food intolerances. We'll be back soon!
The coffee was so bad that i had to return it. First time ever in my life!!
Fish pie was greasy and heavy to the palate. Lentil soup was wonderful though.
Lovely evening- little bit pricey for what it was (chicken burger) but overall good time
The soup starter was excellent, so was the steak. Would definitely return for more meals.
Very Covid safe, excellent service both at front door and by waitress. Food yummy! Everything we wanted for a quick lunch during a shopping trip.
The food was fine. The waitress was very busy and obviously was finding moving difficult as she was limping so she did well. However, the drinks arrived after the food, my cappuccino was tepid and the toilets needed a good tidy up. There was toilet paper on the floor and empty loo rolls in the cubicles. No obvious timetable showing when checked and cleaned.
Bill's was recommended by a friend, I decided to try and I wasn't expecting being that awesome. Fantastic ambience and friendly staff. The eggs avocado florentine was heaven and the gold digger smoothie was superb. I will definitely come back.
Great restaurant and have been there several times. It has an interesting decor which is homely and well thought out. The menu is put together with great variation and flavours which suits all diets. I really like the vibe and would go back but the Service just isn’t up to it. It’s flaky and unstructured. I get the impression that staff randomly look around for tables to serve rather than having their own dedicated station. Drinks and indeed orders were forgotten. Perhaps a new batch of staff but clearly with no training that reflects a highly respected chain.
Understaffed on a busy lunch shift but other than that , brilliant lunch. I know bills are a chain but this one is better than others! Amazing dumplings and surprisingly good sirloin steak. Delicious
Good food and service. Did feel some tables were slightly close together given the Co-vid regulations but saying that felt safe and well looked after. Pleasant dining experience. Thank you.
Great food selection.
Would definitely go again
Bill’s is our preferable restaurant when we look for a delicious breakfast and a nice ambiance to go to with friends and family.
The pancake stack that my friend got looked delicious (I wish there were vegan ones available so I could have some) , I had the smoothie bowl which i didn’t really like and it would be better with more toppings of fruit and granola etc.
A lovely lunch. Great food options for the whole family.
Very friendly helpful staff, good food, nice atmosphere
A Bill’s Sunday breakfast is one of those life cheering events. The fundamentals were as normal but the MD was on auto-pilot, functional but unwelcoming and the Waiter was as best perfunctory to disinterested - clearly not a happy chap. Takes away from the experience a tad. Still one swallow dose not make a summer. Food was great.
Pretty good experience - my burger was a bit overcooked, you have the option of medium or well done - so I'm guessing the burger was frozen - it had a flame grilled quality and the rest of the food was of good standard. Our waitress was excellent, very friendly and efficient. Look, it's not fine dining or gastro-pub but you get decent food at a reasonable price, everyone seemed happy. It was nice to be out and about on a Saturday night.
Refrigerator must have been broken. All drinks were warm.
Food was lovely but the service was poor. Long wait for food and staff were not attentive at all.
Really loved my experience at Bills. The food came quickly and was amazing. Service was relatively quick and all the employees were very friendly. Would definitely come every day if I could!!
Fantastic staff very helpful and felt very safe with the current situation.
The staff were all lovely & accomodating. Attention to detail was second to none. All the food was lovely apart from the only comment I would make is more liquid in the porridge. Very nice & would definitely recommend it & go again.
Thank you to everyone who served us.
quite busy but all protocols in place made it feel safe. the food (beef rib) was excellent
and the staff were engaged, helpful and attentive.
we enjoyed the experience very much
Great location and food was good quality. Staff were friendly. Will return.
We had a table in the downstairs section, there was a lovely atmosphere. So nice to see lots of people out enjoying a good chat, with some good grub to top it off.
Good selection for us and the kids but couldn’t believe the cost.
Their breakfast was delicious!! Absolutely loving the pancakess and their hot chocolate 🥵
Lovely food... the service was a bit slap dash, tried to deliver our main course without clearing starters away and forgot drinks order
Friendly staff who managed the Covid-secure environment well including a steady departure in the run up to 10pm closing.
Quick service, very friendly, delicious food and nice atmosphere
seemed to take long time for main to come out, service friendly polite
Very busy location food was fine but we were definitely rushed when we’d finished our meal. Hadn’t even finished my drink!
Tables need more spacing out.
I ate in Bills on Friday evening. The waitress forgot to bring our water to the table so we had to re order this twice.
My main meal came out and i had ordered a Soul Bowl, this came out where the rice in the center was hot and on the outside the rice was cold, i asked the next waiter that passed whether the rice should be hot or cold. He said its cold as its a salad I said no its not a salad its a soul bowl. He then said no it comes under salads on the menu, which i then pointed out it comes under 'salads and soul bowls' and a soul bowl is usually hot. He didnt seem to know what to say and just walked off leaving me with a half hot/half bowl of rice?
the food was pretty tasteless and the service was poor i doubt i will return to this restaurant in the future
We had not eaten here before and liked the look of the diverse menu. Overall we found the experience underwhelming but it is difficult to explain why. The veggie pie was fine, nothing special. The chicken curry looked artificial as it was bright green however, it tasted good but did not have much chicken in it. The braised rib was excellent and the steak, egg and chips was average. We had a mac and cheese on the side which was lovely. My wine was not as cold as I like but I was told it was the temperature they stored it at and was offered ice. Not ideal, my husband tasted it and agreed it needed to be colder. It was strange because it was not warm in the restaurant. We was not asked if we'd like another drink at any point. Usually we share two desserts but all of us still had room for more. We ordered four desserts. All excellent. The lemon meringue pie was great and so was the flower pot cheesecake. All were generous portions. I feel Bill's is more suited to a cafe than an evening restaurant. When the bill came we had been charged 12.5% service charge. We always leave a tip unless service is terrible but for the standard of restaurant and service 12.5% is well over the top. We removed it and left £10.00 tip in cash which was 10%. Overall, there was nothing wrong with the food and service but we just had higher expectations and wasn't overwhelmed. I felt the bill was steep considering what we had eaten. We eat out quite regularly and have had better quality, service and have felt more satisfied in other places for a similar price or less. We would return for dessert or coffee and cake but not sure we'd hurry back for an evening. The noise level was very loud too.
food took ages, quite expensive, decent quality. service lacking- took 3 attempts to get our drinks.
Had the eat out to help out menu, great food and even better value
Attentive, efficient service with a genuine smile and very good food
Food took 3/4 hr to be served
I arrived 10minutes before my booking and found the doors closed, I tried pushing them but they seemed shut. A member of staff saw me but he didn't come over for another 10minutes or so when he greeted me abruptly and asked if he could help, I said yes I have a booking to which he said well you could have pushed the door. He was most unwelcoming and abrupt. I explained I thought it was locked and to be honest I felt quite embarrassed, if it wasn't for meeting friends I would have left. I was somewhat reassured that both my other friends made the same mistake after me, waiting outside assuming it was locked.
Our waitress however was polite and efficient, the food and drinks were delicious and promptly served.
I suggest working on your initial welcome of customers, it is offputting enough in the current situatian having to scan in and have your temperature checked without being confronted with an apparently locked door and gruff, unwelcoming staff.
