Another delicious meal with meticulous service. They don’t advertise their plant based menu, which is a shame because it’s got a half a dozen items that are all really good. This is a secret gem for vegans like me. But the main menu looks very satisfying forr those who eat animals.
Ann, the hostess was most welcoming and our server Bobby was very knowledgable about the menu. We started with the artichoke and were impressed with the flavors and presentation. We also enjoyed the octopus, brussels sprouts and branzino. We finished with the black swan. Every dish was delicious, beautifully presented. The flavors were subtle and enhanced each dish. I have never tasted combinations like the creative chef at Blackbird offers. No other restaurant is as creative and delicious as Blackbird.
We had dinner for Santa Barbara restaurant week. Our meal was beautifully presented and delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. All around a fantastic evening
Excellent service and very interesting menu! Wonderful cocktail list.
Blackbird is in our experience the best value for restaurant week. Each course was excellent. The crab puffs were amazing. The salmon was very tasty but a tad undercooked. The brûlée was beautifully presented and very yummy. The chiramoya dessert was difficult to break into. I would avoid that in the future.
As for the service, we were seated immediately with our reservation and were greeted by a wonderful server. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable about everything on the menu and wine list. However something was going on in the kitchen. Our entree took over one hour and 15 minutes to arrive. There were 5 chefs behind the counter busily working and empty tables inside and outside. I could tell the server was embarrassed by the situation and tried to compensate by adding more wine to our glasses. Not a bad move on his part. But this was way too long to wait between appetizer and entree. Hopefully this won’t happen again but I don’t know.
We went during Santa Barbara restaurant week, and the food was phenomenal! I've never written an pentacle review before, but felt that Blackbird place deserves the praise.
This is one of my fave restaurants in SB. Food is delicious - must try the crab puffs, salmon, creme brulee and cherimoya dessert. The grilled octopus is delicious as well. Tatiana and Thomas are outstanding servers - exemplary service! Ann, the hostess, is gracious and so warm and welcoming. Blackbird's staff is incomparable!
We had the Restaurant Week dinner and the layers of flavor and ingredients were delightful. Over the top good service from server Kelly and crew.
Second year visiting for Restaurant Week. Food was amazing as usual. A slight mix-up with service but outstanding overall.
Excellent ambiance, decor is beautiful but service and food was OVER THE TOP AMAZING!!
Food was really not good. Enough said.
The restaurant had nice decorations and comfy chairs. The sunchoke bravas were amazing and all the other food we ate was also great. On a Sunday night it was not crowded at all.
My friend and I had an AMAZING experience at Blackbird!! Some of the best food I've had in Santa Barbara. The service was also excellent. Our waiter went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and made sure my friend had a fantastic birthday dinner!
Our waiter was fantastic, couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating. I think the restaurant, being new, has a few kinks to iron out, but the gracious waiter more than made up for it!
Our server, Tatiana, was one of the best I have ever had. She was kind, attentive and helpful. The food was very good, wine list notable, and the service outstanding. Will definitely return!
Excellent food & service
Our server Kelly was superb. I definitely recommend asking to be put in his section!!!! Wagyu tomahawk steak was excellent the rabbit pasta was great appetizers were fantastic. High quality in every aspect!
Great food and environment. And they actually have a kids menu! If your kid likes filet mug on ;)
Great dinner, we loved everything about Blackbird
Good waiter. Fast service. Good food.
We go regularly and every time is a surprise...they use the same main ingredient and change the recipe completely. We had the radicchio salad with pear vinaigrette - delicious - the rib eye and the scallops woo good. Best service, had a very attentive waiter and got a complimentary dessert. Very pleased about the whole experience
The restaurant was outstanding. Serive was very good. Food was special. Really enjoyed their salmon plate.
I feel mislead by the positive reviews on this restaurant. We were disappointed by each dish we had. Either it wasn't hot enough, ingredients didn't taste fresh, or the mix of flavors were strange. Nothing overly stood out. Our waiter was very kind but disappeared towards the end of the meal. I'm happy we tried it out but I wouldn't return back or suggest to friends.
My wife and I, plus two close friends decided to go to Blackbird to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The service was spot on: pleasant, efficient, and helpful. We ordered the tomahawk steak which was prepared perfectly. Several friends had recommended Blackbird, and I’m glad I followed their lead. On another note, I wasn’t cut off after seven Manhattans. Did I mention the bar is outstanding? We took Lyft home. Yep, Happy Birthday!
We had an amazing experience at Blackbird. The food was amazing and our server Bobby was so patient and great in helping us decide. All of the food was delicious and we will definitely be coming back.
I am a regular at this restaurant and love the cocktails and food. The service is usually good but was awful last night. We had a 6pm reservation and there was only one other table with guests. We waited a long time to be helped and then once ordering drinks it was another 30 minutes. By that time the restaurant was full. Also, noisy party beside us. The service needs to be severely improved.
The chicken and the ribeye was amazing. Great wine selection
We loved Blackbird. We dined there for Christmas Eve dinner. The menu was prix fixe and all items were excellent. There was a lovely warm cauliflower soup and the seared cod was cooked perfectly. The service was attentive and the sound level was fairly low even though the restaurant was full. We would definitely return the next time we are in Santa Barbara.
Amazing food and service
Despite some things not working out well due to being seemingly overwhelmed by the Thanksgiving day dinner, they made it up to be sure we were more than pleased with our great evening a the Blackbird.
We traveled to SB for Thanksgiving and chose Blackbird restaurant for TG dinner. Everything about the evening was superb. Blackbird is a small restaurant-bar that is exquisitely beautiful down to the last detail with comfy seating, and a private feel. The food was superb. Our waiter Mitch, was personable, knowledgable, kind, and extremely attentive. We even went back the following night for a night-cap after a show at the Lobero Theater. Thank you Blackbird for making this such a special evening. Highly recommend.
Blackbird is my favorite Santa Barbara restaurant! The chef creates dishes that are delicious and beautifully presented. My favorite items are the crispy Kale salad with pine nuts, the whole fish entree, and the chocolate Black Swan for dessert. The food is consistently excellent every time we dine at Blackbird. Also, Bobbi and Katie know the menu inside and out and provide exceptional and attentive service!
Large plates, small portions.
Not enough salad options.
No soup options.
Excellent. Good waiter. Bobby.
Our server was must attentive and helpful in our ordering. The ahi crudo and the salmon entree were outstanding . We ordered the artichoke that was prepared with interesting Mediterranean spices. The wagyu beef
Outstanding food (very original & tasty), service (unbelieveable), ambience (superb, deco), noise (very low). Great time with old friends.
Very limited menu. Seemed like fine dining from the website, but very casual clientele at the bar and working behind the bar. Overpriced for this type of restaurant.
The waiter we had was wonderful and the food was delicious. Something must have gone wrong in the kitchen because our main course took forever. The restaurant was not crowded when we ordered but things got very backed up. Our waiter was great about refilling our glasses of wine free of charge and he handled it all vey well. It was too bad that the food took so long because it was very good. I would recommend the place to others but I would let them know about the length of time it took to get our food.
So glad I took the plunge and ordered the Black Swan for dessert! Amazingly delicious and a showstopping presentation. Everything else was excellent.
Wonderfully creative menu with extremely knowledgeable staff.
