Boathouse at Breach Inlet
pork belly, blackberry balsamic reduction
shrimp, fresh seasonal fish, mushrooms, cream sauce
Fantastic restaurant! Beautiful scenery and a delicious menu!! We ate here our last night of our girls trip and it was the perfect ending!
The food here was not good at all, we will not be back
Delicious fish! We had the swordfish and salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned just right!
Waiter was great, dinner good, sunset lovely, but the loudmouths at the bar did their best to ruin our anniversary dinner .
Lovely spot. Drinks were good food was pretty but not that hot when hot the table. Service was great
I understand there’s a mandatory mask requirement for restaurants in SC at this time however, they wouldn’t seat us until my husband walked back to the car to get a mask ONLY to walk 15ft to our table. At this point we were irritated. They then sat us literally ONE foot away from a table of 6. I could have touched the woman behind us we were so close. Then when we asked to move, they made it seem like we were asking too much of them. Don’t tell us we can’t be seated if we don’t have a mask then sit us ONE foot away from ANOTHER family. We couldn’t even hear each other talking because the family was so loud. Overall, I was disappointed with the situation. The $30 NY strip had too much fat on it for a $30 steak. Very disappointed.
The view is awesome and the food was very good. Service was prompt and friendly.
One of our favorite places, but not what it was before Corona. No oysters and the reduced menu have brought it down a notch or two. Understandable, but not worth the drive for us until menu comes back normal including raw bar.
Food was ok and over-priced.... there are other options close by.
From the unbeatable waterfront views to the delicious food, an excellent al fresco dining experience. The shrimp cocktail was very good. The table was split on the Caesar Salad. The first batch lacked crispiness and the croutons were stale. The second batch was refreshing. The Grilled Salmon and Blackened Grouper were cooked to perfection. The poached lobster, scallops and shrimp was flavorful and delicious. Everyone loved the sides (creamed corn, collard greens and mashed potatoes). A perfect ending to our Charleston vacation. We would definitely return if in the area again.
We have been coming to the area for many years and always look forward to our reservations at the Boat House. This year was an exception. My review is based primarily on my wife’s entree which was the seafood combination. When I asked her about it she said it was ok. That’s her code for saying she wasn’t too excited about it. I tasted it when she was finished as she didn’t eat it all and it was the most tasteless dish I have ever had. As one of the more expensive items on the menu we were both very disappointed. If this was our first time there we wouldn’t go back but since we have had many positive experiences we will try it again when we return next year.
Food was not good at all, advertised filet mignon is a very chewy cut of beef, green beans were cooked raw, no seasoning at all
This place has been around forever and I think gets by on its fabulous location and reputation from years past. Used to be one of our favorite places to go, but food is just "fair" at best. Very uninteresting and nothing special to bring me back. Wish such a great place could offer great food again. Think it needs some fresh blood to work on the menu and in the kitchen.
Efficient service. Food was good and staff was great.
We been going to the boathouse for years. For the past year. Portions are less. Food was cold. It’s not like it use to be. So sad bc we loved dinning there.
Had visitors from Missouri and took them here for dinner. Always great food and service.
The food was so salty. Everything. From appetizer to grouper to fried green tomatoes. Almost inedible. Hush puppies were disappointing and hard. Cocktail was weak and watery. Never was asked if I wanted another one or some wine. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable.
no personality hostess. food was subpar. small portions for the price. steak lobster-ny trip tough with veins. tails tough. poached seafood platter way to expensive for what you got. shrimp small, tails tough. scallops good. calamari not good. crab critters not worth the money. salmon good. pasta good but small. she crab so so. house salad 8.00 ridiculous.
your name and ambiance will not get you thru. please take this advice from someone who knows and wants to help.
Food and atmosphere was fantastic. However it seemed a little ridiculous to be turned around at the door because my date didn't have a mask. So we drove to buy one, came back only to need this mask to simply walk in the door. No one was wearing mask moving inside the restaurant. So if you plan on making the trip, make sure you bring your mask.
Wonderful food. Great service. Great outdoor dining. We see dolphins every time. This is the 1 diner we plan our vacation around. Never disappoints
Matt, our server, was great. The mussels we had as an appetizer were phenomenal but the grouper that we had as our entree was over cooked and dried out. We had a great table on the porch and social distancing was well done.
View and location are hands down amazing. Better if you go when it is light out so you can properly see the views.
Food was okay. The She-crab soup was salty and the shrimp cocktail was not local shrimp. The fried oysters were amazing and seared scallops were delicious. The blue cheese coleslaw is an awful idea.
Very much enjoyed the visit. Will come again when we're in the area!
Good food. Great service.
Food did not taste good, very bland. The service was great.
Excellent food, excellent service. Valet service was also prompt ( had read previous complaints on here)
Overall, would not hesitate in returning!!
Delicious food for a reasonable price. Comfortable social distancing
Great dinner and view of the channel. Drinks and broiled seafood platter recommended.
We enjoyed the meal and being with our good friends.
Our server never introduced himself and appeared to wish he was anywhere else. My sister couldn't eat her shecrab soup because it was over salted, he just shrugged his shouldered. And the soup was lukewarm. We were never asked if we wanted more to drink.
My food was so bland, it was ...............
I am from SC and the fried green tomatoes were an abomination.
When I return to the Isle of Palms (Boathouse )I can only hope it has a new chef and some kinder servers.
The bartender was a sweetheart.
47 th anniversary
Food was delicious!! Our waitress was great. I don't know who chose the radio station that night but it was great also!! We will be back in November and we will definitely back.
Great Birthday dinner
We enjoyed the crab soup and shrimp and grits.
Our waiter was amazing. Super friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. Throughly enjoyed dinner because he was honestly one of the best waiters I have ever had. My husband and I would come back and request his table.
First time going; went on a Friday night so I made a reservation, but still ended up in a little corner right across from the bar. Despite there being many open tables in better areas, our request to move was denied. Nevertheless, we watched people walk in without reservations who came in the back door to sit where they liked. The bartender didn’t attend to us well; I had to go to the bar to find her and order our drinks and dinner. When my steak and lobster tails arrived I was very disappointed. The steak was a 3 inch by 3 inch thin cut of meat, and the tails were very small, thin and overcooked. I’ve never seen such small servings for the price. Overall, the place seems to be surviving based on it’s location, but with this kind of food and service, I won’t recommend yo anyone or return.
The attraction at The Boathouse is to sit outside with a view of the water. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were told that there were no seats available outside, so we ate inside at what became ‘the kids’ room after multiple families with little ones joined the room. Our food was ok, at best. My steak was on the well done side of medium, despite ordering it medium rare. The meal was to come with grits, but I received French fries, instead. My wife’s steak, ordered medium rare, came as ordered, but instead of the side salad to replace the fries, she received the fries and had to ask for the salad to be brought to our table. For the price we paid for dinner, over $100, I expected better food, attention to detail and not to be seated in ‘the kids’ room.
One of our favourite places, best sunset view in Charleston and always great fresh seafood. Outdoor seating on screen porch is ideal.
When we arrived early, there was only 1 valet serving customers and very little parking available otherwise. After 10 minutes, I sent my wife in. Finally 15 minutes after arrival, I was given a ticket while my car sat in line with the door open and the motor running, where anyone could have hopped in and driven away. Some customers were so angry, they drove into the valet lot via the exit to park. Even though it was our 50th anniversary, the restaurant had no acknowledgment AND our table was closest to the door with no view of anything but the bar, hostess, and other diners. We still don't know if this restaurant has scenic views? I ordered the PEI mussels for a starter which were good. My swordfish entree and my wife's seafood combo were both nicely done and tasteful. This could have been better but given our overall experience here, we would not return or recommend the restaurant.
1 st visit here recommended by a neighbor. The restaurant was Short staffed. Overcrowded, loud and they messed up our order and brought it to the wrong table so we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for replacement dinners to be made. Waitress didn’t even apologize. We won’t be going back!
We arrived with my son, who lives out of town expecting a great meal as I have previously frequented the Boathouse. We ordered the hush puppies as an appetizer- they arrived hard and cold. There was nothing peppery about them as the description stated. We next asked about the fish specials. Typically, there are two to three fresh fish specials on the menu. We were told they were out of any fresh fish. I ordered the shrimp cocktail which came on a plate (strange as typically they are a nice size shrimp) that are placed around a tall glass. Shrimp were small- not cocktail size and not exactly shrimp cocktail from restaurant but tasted ok, frozen not fresh.
Disappointed to say the least. My boyfriend ordered the chicken, nothing to write home about and my son had the short ribs. Again, nothing that would support the price.
The service was very good and our waiter did a nice job in keeping things moving.
I do not recommend this restaurant and it’s sad to say as it had been one of my favorites.
