It is not as good as it used to be. Don’t know what happened.
Loved that we could look at and see the water.
The food was amazing! Definitely order the hush puppies - you won't regret it!
Nothing special. Average
We looked forward to dining here; had a great experience 3 years ago. Seems a few things changed; server was annoyed when we were not satisfied with our appetizer. Lobster that came with steak was shriveled-3 Small bites.
Not sure why the app asks for occasion: I entered anniversary but it was not recognized by restaurant.
Food and service, thanks especially to our server, "Susie " (sp?), the equal of any eatery on the peninsula and better than most!
Food and atmosphere was amazing as always. The fish was soooo fresh.
The best seafood in Charleston
We have been going to BOATHOUSE "forever" having moved here in 1998. They always had been consistent and had a great menu. And they served GREAT BREAD. This time we were disappointed that the menu had shrunk considerably, and no bread offered, only overdone, dry, hard hushpuppies. They need to bring back the good bread that used to be served.
The server was fine. Our salad was good, and the triggerfish special was good. But there wasn't much else on the menu, other than the regular plan-it-yourself fish. The tower was exorbitantly priced. This isn't THE ORDINARY.
In addition, their rewards program, which never did work well, is gone. At least they will honor the card value we have, if we decide to go again.
I guess Hanna Raskin is right. Many, if not all, restaurants have a shelf life.
I like the fact that there are many options for toppings to seafood, but the one I was given was more like a spead for bread and not what it sounded like for my scallops. Also the food was not very hot when served. I ahve been at the BH many times and this was the first that has been on the mediocre side. I will try again.
Sunset view is incredible. Had the fresh swordfish. It was excellent.
We had our wedding reception on their back porch 12 years ago. They were phenomenal than and still are. We go there now for our anniversary dinners and they never disappoint.
Overall, the food was good, not outstanding. At our table we had a risotto dish, a shrimp and grits, fried seafood combo of shrimp and oysters, and pasta dish. The shrimp and grits was the winner by our taste tests with the pasta dish coming in second. The risotta dish was very rich, almost too much so. The fried seafood combo came in last among our four diners. The shrimp were good, the oysters were just ok.
We enjoyed the view over the marsh, the sunset, and our congenial server. We would probably go back for the view but order different dishes this time around.
Beautiful background. Delicious dinner. Soup was not hot enough but the meal made up for it.
Food was poorly prepared and left in the kitchen too long before being served in a "cooled-down" state. Server seldom appeared at our table and seemed to have an attitude that was not very pleasant. Chrome and plastic table and chair accommodations created a cold and unappealing atmosphere. We will not be returning to this restaurant!
Boat house is awesome, great local selections and fantastic service. I always park across the street for free, I’m not a fan of valet parking. They don’t have a handicapped ramp but rather a power lift which wasn’t ideal for my guests using a cane but the stairs were not horrible. Highly recommend going if you are local and for sure If you are visiting (not a tourist trap 😊)
A beautiful sunset and very attentive and friendly staff. The food was delicious! We will be back soon!
The main course was fine but I was disappointed with the dessert. The Creme Brûlée was not served properly. The most disappointment was that I requested a bottle of wine to be at table because my wife and I were celebrating 20 years together. Not only did we not have the wine at table but server brought the wine out without a chiller which is usually appropriate for Chardonnay. Not one person acknowledged our celebration and the only time the manager said anything was when my wife complained about the dessert. I have been to The Boathouse several times but this was by far the worse experience I have had there. I am hoping that they just had a bad night and this won’t happen again.
Food was very good. But arrived lukewarm. Server made is feel rushed.
Nice nautical atmosphere, casual dining and the best key lime pie I've ever had!
For $30 I got a few shrimp a dried up piece of flounder and a hush puppy. I don’t remember if there was a side , if so it was was forgettable. the food was too greasy too overcooked and very small portions for the amount of money paid I’ve been there before and liked it but I will not go again . There are too many really good restaurants in this area to spend a lot of money at the boathouse
Just what you'd expect from a classic American seaside restaurant plus great service. We really enjoyed it!
My wife and I went on a Minday evening. The food was excellent. We had the hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes and oysters for appetizers. All were very good. We both had the swordfish for our entree. Again all was prepared well. Their collars greens were great!. Good service from Meg S.
Absolutely wonderful food and fabulous service! We will definitely return!
Service was horrible.
Good but would have been better when it was light outside. Definitely a unique mix of date night and people who have out on a boat all day drinking. Very disappointed in the lobster tho
Went for special Birthday dinner and disappointed. All food was loaded with salt!
Dessert was awful too. soggy key lime pie!
The wait staff was the only positive.
Our waitress was excellent. It was a very cold night and we requested a view but they did not warn us the porch would be so cold had to eat with jackets on.
The waitress had the manager bring the gas heater over so we could at least eat rather than leave. This was the only plus. They only had 2 heaters on this large porch area.
Food grossly overpriced! No parking so had to use there valet parking staff.
Would not recommend this restaurant.
We made a last minute reservation on Valentine's night. Table was ready on arrival, waitress was excellent and the food was delicious. Definitely reccomend
Overall it was great.
Such a disappointment. Though we were seated close to our reservation time, it wasn't until almost an hour later that the waiter came back to take our order (once we waved him down). My husband ordered steak and lobster which included two EMPTY lobster shells and one with a tiny bit of meat (basically two bites of lobster). Both of our meals were very mediocre, at best. The only tasty item were the collard greens. We live out of town; and, the Boathouse used to be our 'go to place'. The last three times have been increasing disappointing. Three times too many; time to find a new go to.
Everything was delicious 😋 we had lobster 🦞 with fili and potatoes and collard yummy 😋 a nice bottle of wine 🍷 Pinot and the valentines ended with a dreamy slice of key lime pie
food was excellent and drinks were just ok.. sitting in the rear on the deck was not the best; heaters were almost too warm... service was good but a little slow... like this place and will return but will try to sit in the bar area..
Great food and great overall experience, parking is tricky due to valet parking is difficult to see at night and unless you know about it
Very very good experience, pricing was high but it was worth every dollar!!
Paying for the location. Same food on Coleman is half the price.
We enjoyed the evening. We felt our service was a little too casual. No bread or anything for the table. We ordered scallops and the Flounder special. Both were good.
Not sure whether it was because it’s the “off-season” or was just one of those nights. Was rather disappointed with the quality of the food. The salad was aged, with more brown lettuce and vegetables then fresh. The main courses were overcooked and dry, as well as lacking flavor. Definitely was not worth what we ended up spending.
We have been going to The Boathouse to celebrate family members birthdays for the past few years, which became a tradition, but we will no longer be doing so. Will be looking for a new place from now on.
I took a group of teenagers for a special dinner and we all loved our meals and our server. It was a really nice dinner and we will definitely be back soon.
My husband and I love dining here especially in the warm weather when we can have a drink outside. That definitely didn’t happen this visit (February!), but we enjoyed our meal very much anyway.
Excellent food and outstanding service. Noisy and background music is unnecessary. Can’t hear it fully but it just adds to the overall loudness. Turn it off!!
Food was terrible, the restaurant smelled, and part of one dish was not brought to the table until after we had finished eating. Seriously, for a seafood specializing place, the fish was terrible.
Please do not waste your money.
