Created by alexander boone in 1898, 1¼ lb lobster split and stuffed with even more lobster, scallops, and shrimp
Lobster, scallops & haddock, sherry cream sauce, over a toasted boone's popover
The stuffed lobster was as advertised- amazing!
It’s ok, tourist spot for sure. Nothing special but food was decent. Can’t say anything bad about it, but wasn’t anything to take pictures of.
Very average food for a high price. Our waiter was rushing us. I wouldn’t go back.
The lobster and lobster rolls were delicious. Had the baked stuffed lobster. Also ask for a table outside on the deck for a true al fresco experience. Also note, 90% of diners are tourists, so not really a locals place.
Service was adequate, not overly friendly. I had the famous stuff lobster. It had to be the most expensive lunch I have ever had. Presentation was good and it shocked me because I wasn’t expecting it. I think there was a lot of bread in it? It weighed heavy in my gut for the rest of the day and I had difficulty eating supper as a result. Due to the price, I forced myself to eat it all!
Food was great but a little pricey. Ambiance was cool with the party going on but if you want a more mature atmosphere there isn't it. Overall pleased, oysters were delicious, would come back
The Front of the House and the wait staff were friendly, professional and honest.
Fantastic food and great service. All at a very fair price. We sat outside and got to enjoy the music played at the next door restaurant. Great Maine beer selection to top it all off. Highly recommended.
The service was low key and perfect. The food was scrumptious! Will definitely be back if we return to Portland.
Ate upstairs, good service, had the swordfish special which was excellent.
Overpriced. Stuffed Lobster was dry for $50.
Overpriced. Would consider it a value at half the price.
Nice table on upper deck, had to eat super early as no reservations
Are you trying to be a night club or a restaurant? Because your doing neither right now. Music was too loud, food was just OK.
Waiter was good, but service was a little slow. Ordered apps and the folks who brought them out seemed angry and slammed our apps down on the table. I thought the calamari was going to slide out of the bowl!
Steamed clams did not appear to be rinsed prior to steaming as they were mud filled and very gritty.
I don’t like an over dressed Caesar salad, but this one almost had no dressing.
Salmon was overcooked, rice was over cooked and tasteless.
Party of 6 $428 which included an automatic 20% gratuity. Just not worth it. Won’t be back anytime soon.
Elise, our waitress was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Was able to suggest items that pet dietary restrictions for one of the guests. The hostess recommended a very comfortable table that was protected under the awning and very close to the entrance which was a great accommodation for my elderly parents.
The food was fantastic. But the service was just ok. They forgot to bring our oysters out first. So we had four full plates plus a dozen oysters on the table at the same time. What a mess! They didn't ask us if we wanted coffee or dessert either, which surprised me.
Had the lobster claw Bloody and a lobster roll! Get some butter to dip your sandwich!
We visited twice, for a lunch one day, and a dinner the next day. The service was very slow, especially for dinner. The Seafood Newberg on a Popover was excellent; I would get that every time. It was very noisy, even though about at half capacity. Because of the weather we ate inside. Probably a lot better with outside dining. Unlikely to return for dinner; too many other great places to try out.
Our first time at Boone House. They asked when making the reservation about a special occasion and yes it was our 30 year anniversary. It was never acknowledged so why ask. The food was awesome. We had the crab cakes which were so light and flavorful and I had the tequila lime shrimp linguine which was so good. Only other issue was it was so hot inside that it wasn’t comfortable at all. The wait staff were melting but still remained attentive and polite. I’m sure we will try again at some point and hopefully it will be cooler weather
The food was delicious, but inside is not updated and tired. The building is on such a tilt that not a single table stands straight. Our drinks kept sliding down the table.
Our server was fantastic and accommodating to our child’s service dog (even bringing him a dog bowl of iced cold water during one of the hottest days ever!)
Get the calamari, lobster boil, baked lobster.
That stuffed lobster was amazing!!!!
Oysters were amazing! We had fun trying different kinds of oysters!
Amazing!! One of the best lobster I’ve ever eaten!
Absolutely excellent-- terrific food (a bit pricey) great drinks and beautiful outdoor seating space.
The only thing to know is that this is a great place. The selfish part of me wants to give a bad review to keep Boone's more of a secret, but that would be like trying to hold back the tide. Go. Eat. Enjoy!
Half hour wait with a reservation at 12:30 pm on a Tuesday :( sat at bar and stayed there, however, was a business lunch for 3 new customers. ps- one of my customers swallowed glass from a bottle of non-alcoholic beer. I don’t think I will bring customers there anymore.
The deck seating was perfect. The service was friendly and honest. All around solid.
Dinner Friday night was good, but no dessert menu. There was only one dessert available. It was a cheesecake with blueberry sauce. The waiter said he was embarrassed to tell us that was the only dessert when we inquired about a dessert menu. Disappointing!!!
Great atmosphere on the dock on a nice day. Good came out really fast but at different times for different people, so it felt a little uneven, but coming out of the pandemic and knowing the challenges restaurants are having, it was a positive experience overall.
Clean and inviting atmosphere and good food. Good variety of dishes to choose.
I was visiting Maine from NY for a couple days and saw this place was well reviewed so my party of 3 reserved easily on their website. We went on Memorial day and it was pretty quiet but I’m certain even on a busy night it would still be so great. The set up of the restaurant is comfortable, the bathrooms are pristine and very good quality. The drinks and food were delicious but our server was absolutely amazing. She was so kind, patient and understanding when we wanted to change a drink or ask for anything. She wrote us a list of nearby places and things to do. I would definitely come back here again especially when it’s warmer to sit outside on their
Good lobster and very good service. Everything else, well, it’s an institution so they don’t have to do anything or update anything although they really should. Pricing a bit high.
Best lobster roll I’ve had in a while! I wish there was more clams in the clam chowder. We sat by a big window so even though it was gloomy outside we got to feel like we were on the bay. Also great location! Old Port was right next to it.
I'm sorry to say but our dinner was terribly disappointing. I selected Boone's based on reviews. This was our first trip to Maine. My husband had the whole steamed lobster. It was greasy and had char marks on the shell. Not sure about how it was steamed. The utensils given to get the lobster from the shell were not sufficient. The melted butter that was served with it didn't look like butter so he skipped it. I had fried fish and chips. I asked for cocktail sauce instead of tartar but got the tartar. So I had to wait for our server to return and ask again for it. What he brought out was some sort of gelled thing. I ate a couple bites of my dinner and it was extremely greasy and stopped. When we returned to our hotel my stomach was making lots of unpleasant noises and I felt on the verge of being sick. I was certain I would be up all night. We were flying out early the next morning. Fortunately my stomach settled overnight. It was not very crowded but it was very loud inside the restaurant. We had a hard time having a conversation.
Outdoor, dog-friendly service - delightful dinner with our pup.
This place has a great ambiance and the food was decent, but definitely overpriced. I ordered the famous stuffed lobster, but it was pretty overcooked - claws were dry and shrunken. Plus, it was $53 just for that one dish. Due to the costs, we didn't bother with apps.
It was our first visit and part of an Anniversary gift for my husband because he's big on oysters, but finding a place that serves them fresh, raw and not gritty or fried had always been a challenge. I did a bit of digging and found this place, about 3hrs away, but decided it was worth the trip. I couldn't have been more pleased!!
Nice crab cakes, fried clams and wedge salad.
As locals, we brought our out of town friends here to be close to water & for seafood. Honestly, it was the only place where we could get a reservation for that many people. The oysters were great, popovers were very good, the drinks were good. The lobsters were all over cooked. The stuffing for the baked stuffed lobster and baked stuffed haddock was amazing, full of seafood! It's hard to overlook an absolutely overcooked lobster though...as a Mainer. It was okay. I'm not dying to go back. The service was moderate though our waitress seemed annoyed at every small request (more wet naps, napkins, water, etc). It was solidly okay.
We had a wonderful time. The service was excellent. The swordfish was very good but the the baked stuffed haddock was the best I've ever had. It was a little on the pricey side but not out of sight. Some of this is my issue since I wear hearing aids, but it was a little on the noisy side sitting next to the server station where they bring out the food.
I would always recommend Boone's for dinner
