Boston Fish Market
My husband doesn’t eat tomatoes. He’s picky, whatever. When at Boston Fish Market, we specifically ordered swordfish vesuvio because (a) we love vesuvio and (b) it never has tomatoes. Chicago people know what Vesuvio style is: lots of garlic, white wine, peas and heavenly garlic-roasted potatoes. What we got was swordfish swimming in a chunky tomato sauce. Some artichokes and green peppers, onions and mushy potatoes.
I spoke to the waiter, saying we were surprised by the dish since we had ordered vesuvio style, and he agreed that it is really more Mediterranean style. I told him we never would have ordered it had we known we weren’t getting what we expected. He shrugged. No visit from the manager, no apology, just the check.
I cannot give a positive review in situations like this. And for anyone still choosing to go, ask specifically how your dish is prepared. It was very disappointing.
I was not expecting the portions to be as big as they are. Can literally feed a family of 5 with no problems. We had ordered the shrimp and crawfish gumbo, shrimp cocktail, and seafood salad. All were amazing. The cocktail sauce had too much horseradish with I personally can do less of. The gumbo was great. The service is great and the food literally speaks for itself.
We enjoyed our 50th wedding anniversary here and dined on the 14-16 oz. lobster tails very similar to what we ate on our honeymoon all those years ago. They were impossible to forget at either event. What a delicious meal. And the restaurant was wonderful, too.
What memories we can share forever.
I should have known what to expect when it took ten minutes to get anyone to acknowledge that I was standing there. There was no host. Finally we got seated. They clearly are understaffed like most places. The salad we ordered took 15 mins to arrive and wasn’t cold. The fish was tough and our waiter said it’s supposed to be that way. The manager - I presume- walked around but never chipped in to help his staff clear tables. It used to be good but we have no reason to go back- especially with their high prices
Service was incredibly slow. Food was cold and lacked any flavor, whatsoever. Bathrooms were irreparably dirty with mops buckets strewn about. Drink selection was fine. Can’t say I will return.
Service by George was terrible. He seemed to want us gone as soon as we sat down. Never asked us if we wanted a beverage; took a long time to bring out second entree; looked exasperated when asked for pepper for salad; & charged the wrong price for an entree (& proceeded to argue & not want to correct his mistake until we asked for the manager). The grilled octopus was the only saving grace, however, the website prices are markedly lower than the dine-in menu prices, so be aware!
The noise level was extremely loud, too, because a loud group of 6 were sat within a foot of our table, despite other empty tables in the dining room. ( So much for 6 ft distance!)
Needless to say, we will no longer be regular customers of this establishment due to our poor experience & customer service!
Terrible waitress problem
One of the worst dining experiences of my life. The entrees, which were $31.99-$35.99 were all served cold!! No way to reheat except to over cook. No concessions or apologies were made. Will NEVER dine there again. Ridiculously expensive and a total waste of money. The bill with tip was almost $200 for cold food.
Underwhelming, pretentious, and overpriced. Made a reservation and was greeted by emptiness. The sink in the dining room used for table water is less rustic and more dirty and cheap, the servers were the only positive as the abundance of menu items for a “Boston Fish Market” left little to be desired. A simple lobster roll is served on a pretzel bun and although cooked properly lacked flavor beyond a ballpark pretzel with a dash of lobster. This “meal” served with frozen French fries comes out to $30 with tax. If you have like throwing money away at a decent attempt at ambience, and are in a bind at the last minute, this is the spot for you. If you're seeking a well-balanced atmosphere specializing in seafood dishes, look elsewhere. Boston would simply not approve.
Terrible service. Waited almost 2.5 hours for our food. People who were seated after us got food and left before we got ours. Server never got us more drinks. We had to ask 4 times for silverware. Absolutely horrible experience for my birthday. Manager never came by no apologies no discounts offered. Nothing. Would never return.
Some of the best fish we have ever had
Fried perch was terrible. All you can taste was the oil. Fries were over cooked and it came with rice, potatoes, and string beans that were mushy.
Dover sole was cooked to perfection, but who needs all those sides!
The manager was extremely rude and based on the website they raised prices over 100 percent.
Will not recommend this restaurant. In the past they were excellent however things changed. As I
Said the owner / manager was extremely rude.
Enjoyable! Patio dining was nice
Food ok service horrible was there for a bday took 40 minutes to get drink order and apps
Food came over a hour after crazy waiter never came back went to owner nothing was done
Don’t think we will be going back very sad
Never even brought desert or asked crazy
Pricey but Very large portions size. Outdoor dining area is huge and nicely decorated
Terrible service and extremely over-priced. Food quality was just ok, definitely not worth the outrageous prices they charge! There are much better (and more reasonable) fish restaurants around, would not eat here again.
Bad service, food was not great and they didn’t care if we made a reservation or not.
I thought that while some of the dishes were quite good (trio appetizer was best item by far), the server seemed to have too many tables to keep up with and was not well-versed in the wine, though he was quite friendly. There is something about it that makes you feel they feel they are doing you a favor by allowing you to eat there...for the price point, which is on the high side, I just would have expected the service to be better and for the food overall to stand out more. However, the place was packed at 5:15, so maybe I'm missing something.
Great service and food
You get a ton of food for the money. Each meal is really two meals. Excellent value.
Fish dishes were phenomenal! Very large portions.
Went for my moms bday dinner .. there was no front desk person to seat you , we had to go inside and look for the host .. appetizers was served 45 minutes! Dinner entree almost 30 minutes which was fine but the appetizers took so long .. too crowded too loud . But great food
Amazing food. The patio music was a bit loud, but we think it was to hide traffic noise. Can’t wait to visit again.
Dined outside, food and service excellent as always.
We experienced great service and the food was absolutely outstanding. I would recommend Boston Fish Market to anyone celebrating an anniversary, birthday or special event. Great place to just get some wonderful appetizers and a cocktail too.
Great Food and Fantastic selection of Seafood and Steaks
I have never been disabled at the restaurant. Good choice for the freshest fish in the northwest suburbs.
Great food. Wish they had choice of sides and soup or salad like most restaurants have with these prices. Waiter was friendly and efficient but never asked if I wanted another drink. I had to ask for more water and a 2nd drink. Portions of seafood is always enough for two meals.
Our first visit. Service very good. Considering high prices, food quality could be improved. For example: a) the shrimp cocktail had very large, meaty shrimp but flavor was lacking; b) the char-grilled halibut was tender but dry; c) the coconut cake was served straight from the refrigerator case: flavorful but dry, buttercream icing was solid, not creamy. Not sure if we will return.
Big price increase in 3 days but the food was delicious and the portions are large.
Food is outstanding. However the prices are a bit STEEP!!!!!
Could have been a nicer experience, waited long to be seated with reservation. The greeter didn’t apologize for the wait or was very friendly.
Would have been nice if we were guided with menu on how it worked or recommendations would have help. For the price they don’t seem to value the customer or there experience. I was recommended this place and for a small fortune you’d like it to be worth it and I don’t feel it met the expectations.
Food was Great.....
Service was excellent..
Will definitely go back soon...
We love Boston Fish Market... going back dining with the restrictions being relaxed, was a bit scary at first but they handled it perfectly. We highly recommend visiting. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable and as always love it!!!
Food had very little flavor. I had lobster with zero flavor . I make better lobster at home. My wife had fish that she also was not impressed by.
The sides were some nasty potatoes, rice , cauliflower concoction that tasted incredibly sour and like it was 5 days old.
Service was ok but not pleasant just seems like very angry people working there .
Go to bob chinns quality is way better and the food actually has flavor, ambiance is way more relaxed and enjoyable .
I would never recommend Boston Fish Market to anyone
Pre Mother's Day get together.
Great service and great food!
Great food and service!
While the beginning of our dining experience was good and our waiter was prompt and attentive, it went downhill from there. By the time we were ready for our check despite requesting it more than once, we waited over 30 minutes for carry out containers and our check. The food was very good, but based on the service we are not sure if we would return.
Great food, slow service.
