Broken English Taco Pub-Old Town

We arrived right at 1p when they opened. Fun decor, clean and inviting, friendly service. We went with the taco platter and the food was spicy, very tasty. Rice and beans are staple in Mexican meals, it would have been nice to have them on the menu. Also, it would have added to the experience if Spanish music was playing in the background. Overall, we had a nice time.

Our table was so wobbly all over our drinks were spilling. Tacos are pretty mediocre. Not giving out metal silverware? Service was eh.

Picked a random spot and stumbled upon this place. Great margaritas. Steak tacos were not the best, but the atmosphere was colorful.

Chicken tinga was good. Paloma was excellent. Go somewhere else for tacos, come here for drinks.

Absolutely incredible tacos and salsas! We had chips and salsa which came with their two signature house salsas. Both were fantastic! We order a share plate of tacos which allowed us to get a wide variety of all very delicious tacos. The ambiance is eclectic hipster with bright colors and hand crafted art painted directly on the walls. It’s loud inside but that more because it was packed than bad acoustics. Highly recommend!

The restaurant itself has a fun decor. The art on the walls and ceiling are crazy! Loved having the option to add CBD to my margarita pitcher! The service was really good. The food was delicious!! I will be going back!

Exceeded expectations completely!

I had an okay experience. Even when asking for no heat in the food, they couldn't get it done. I did have a great mezcal old fashioned however and loved the design.

Went on a Sunday which was during brunch. One group of girls was very out of control from the bottomless mimosas which made for a semi awkward experience. However, the food was fantastic so I would certainly go back again.

Really nice place. My first time here. The waitress was doing alot. The manager or someone always made sure we were ok. Will come again.

Best “street” tacos I’ve ever had and I live in New Mexico!

Great margaritas and guac was good. Tacos were just ok. Really loud. Cool ambiance. Our server argued with me about what I ordered and insisted I misspoke. The others I was with agreed our food did not come out as I ordered it. Really disappointing.

Delicious salsa, tacos and margaritas in a fun atmosphere. I tried the fried chicken tacos which were good. Nice crunch from the chicken and cabbage.

We were able to eat at the bar and get in and out as we were rushing to a show. Th service was good and the food was good as well.

The tacos are amazing and a great price on Taco Tuesday! However, I thought the margaritas were expensive for the size and the frozen margarita was sour. I also ordered a paloma and it was watery. Next time I would just get the classic marg, which is what my boyfriend ordered and it was great. Overall really cute spot and fun atmosphere!

You can't go wrong with this place. Great atmosphere, great service and of course, great tacos.

Great place for drinks and tacos for a fun night with friends or a date night! Colorful walls and decorations and delicious food. Tacos are a bit small, I suggest ordering the platter of 6 to share

It was my last day in Chicago before going back home to Boston! All I can say is Shane our server was amazing; we loved her!

The restaurant is extremely noisy so that we could not carry on a conversation without shouting. We ordered the empanadas, chips and salsa, and nachos. Food was okay. Everyone around us ordered the tacos so that was probably what we should have ordered. Service was friendly.

This was my/family’s first time at a BETP, we dined for my teen daughter’s birthday dinner (her wish was tacos) I thought under the familiar Stefani group, high ratings, and from colorful photos I had a winner. Not so. The only part delivered was the colorful decor. Upon walking in, the noise level was very HIGH. (My husband’s non-negotiable.) We were seated promptly with our reservation. The table was sticky yet appeared clean. Everything was sticky. Felt like I lost a layer of skin getting off the stool.

The food: very fast, we could see why, scoops of filling placed on tortillas and out. Tortillas barely warm. We ordered two platters of tacos. Shrimp and carnitas were alright, not delicious. Chicken was so shredded and covered in sauce it wasn’t really like anything. Tacos are small. The guacamole was good but it’s a very small serving- I’d guess no more than two avocados worth. As other reviewers wrote, chips are not offered (free) at the table. House margarita was disappointing, chose a beer after that rather than further disappointment and money wasted. Our server, young twenty-something male was friendly, attentive.

Overall, I’m surprised so many reviewers rate Broken English spots so highly. Does the colorful decor weigh so heavily? My family will not return or recommend for more than a fast food experience. Honestly several better tacos exist among Chicago’s fast food offerings. We would’ve been better off sticking with Bien Trucha options in our own backyard. Ah well, we gave it a try, the only way to find out.
