We were here on sat 3/14. Our reservation was not cancelled
Good food and service
When I saw this was related to Lydia Shire I was hopeful for a good experience. Must have been recent changes because the interior didn’t look at all like pics on the website. Food was really mediocre at best. Folks in my group were disappointed and most likely won’t be back.
Good food and service.
Very casual
The place was quiet on a Friday evening. The service was excellent and pleasant. The food was good as well. Quality beer available. I have no complaints and would certainly go back. These guys deserve more customers.
The big disappointment, which was not their fault, was they can’t serve alcohol before noon on Sunday. It’s a law in Brookline. I wanted to try this place because of their coconut sundae French toast and the mimosa flight. I just wish it was more prominently displayed on their website or in the restaurant so I could have known ahead of time and not bothered with the 30 min. drive there. The food was really good so if I go back I’ll make sure to go any day but Sunday so I can try their mimosas.
Brothers has recently been renovated and changed the menu. My husband and I enjoyed our dinner there. We have sampled the flat bread, some salads, and some appetizers. The food is carefully prepared and well presented. The service is friendly and helpful. The new decor is bright and cheerful. Overall, Brothers is a very nice, reasonably priced neighborhood restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We would also recommend the brunch. If you have not tried Brothers recently, it is well worth a visit.
Great spot for Saturday Brunch- good mimosas, good breakfast options, kind staff. Was a little loud but only since it was a busy Saturday morning which would be expected. Food was yummy!
We go for the live music which is great.
Brunch was absolutely fantastic! Service felt a little slow because we were starving and our neighbors got delicious looking and amazingly fragrant food, and it was hard to wait. Would love to go back soon!
Decidedly “meh” experience and food. Five minutes after arrival, when we told our server we needed a little more time to decide what to order, we were told “Okay, but we have a lot of reservations today.” Fair enough, it was Sunday brunch. But didn’t set the most welcoming tone for having just arrived.
I wish I could say the food was worth it, but that too was simply ok. We shared eggs Benedict with asparagus and prosciutto. The hollandaise was tasty, and the eggs cooked perfectly. However the one asparagus was somehow both overcooked and tough at the same time. And the prosciutto was thick and also tough. I even asked if it was turkey bacon or prosciutto and was told it is prosciutto. Hmmm.
We also ordered stuffed French toast, which was, again, just ok. A bit dry and very sweet, so it needed syrup to moisten it. We ordered a half portion, which was very large. On our bill, we were charged for the full portion, so maybe that explains the size. We had never eaten here before, so didn’t know what size we’d been served. Sure enough, they charged us for the full portion (which we didn’t finish) and adjusted the bill.
There was a line of people waiting when we left, and Brothers has decent reviews. I’d still give it another try, but maybe on a less busy day.
I had read the reviews in advance and was expecting a neighborhood gem, but I was really disappointed. This place needs a lot of updating. The menu was a bit different than the website and prices were different too. Food was decent but the atmosphere made it really unappetizing.
First time at Brothers and I was very impressed with food, service and value. The menu was varied and all four of our meals we very good. The bar is well equipped. Service was great. It is in the middle of the block and does not stand out from the outside but certainly does on the inside.
The scallops entree was delicious! The cod fish was good but with very little ritz cracker crust. The mashed sweet potatoes were iffy because of some added ingredient (perhaps it was orange?). Not my taste. Nice waiter, very attentive.
Great food. Definitely going back.
We went for the musical venue they offered on the weekend. The food service is slow, and sometimes they forget things like water, the check. But overall the food is generally very good, as is the ambiance.
Brothers is one of my go-to places for lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is friendly, the servers are attentive, and the food is reliably good every time. Live music nights are a real treat, very intimate and entertaining.
A delightful evening! Great food and service, and even more wonderful band! The music was delightful in the background during the first set, and a very congenial performance of local and professional artists in the second set. The Winikers never fail to provide an enchanted evening of jazz with outstanding musicians!
I am so happy I went to Brother's for lunch yesterday. I was pushing it as they were still officially serving lunch/brunch but I did not want eggs or any of those items. They went out of their way to prepare the churrasco chorizo steak and chorizo combination for me. It was so flavorful and delicious. I really appreciated the friendly, welcoming customer service, flexibility, and the wonderful meal. The chimichurri on the steak was great and the chorizo was full of flavor. Awesome!
Excellent experience. I enjoyed in particular the high quality and flavor of the food.
Great local restaurant with good, not too loud music on Saturday and Sunday. Limited wine list, full bar. Food is good, specials always worth serious consideration.
We are regulars.
Good Food, low key neighborhood place. A great value for very good quality of food that is served. Nothing super fancy but well prepared favorites. Menu tends to feature seafood dishes but meat and vegetarian choices are a offered as well.
We had a fabulous time. Richard was wonderful. He was an excellent waiter. My goddaughters and I had crab cakes, calamari and bacon wrapped scallops and all were delicious. Our entrees were huge and all of us were Very Happy and full. Then came Delicious Desserts. We of course had “doggie bags” and left happy and full.
I have a friend who says breakfast is delicious at Brothers!
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Brothers. We had been meaning to dine there for ages. We knew they had music but we weren’t sure of the night or type of music. The trio plays Saturday nights. What a treat! Pleasant, enjoyable music. Not so loud you can’t have a conversation but you can also hum along or tap your foot, if desired. Folks from the restaurant join in on the 2nd set- really fun to see. O- the food! That was enjoyable too! Large portions so plan to take some home. The short rib was cooked perfectly & the sauce in the chicken piccata was very good. We were disappointed they were out of the hummus plate as 2 people in our party wanted that, but it happens. Overall, we will definitely return for the food, music and camaraderie! Thank you Brothers for a very enjoyable evening.
Visited Brothers because we stayed at nearby hotel to stay overnight for the Cirque du Soleil Show. Was very quiet when we arrived. Started to fill up with locals. So the reviews I read were corroborated by our experience and the locals patronage. I would recommend visiting this establishment.
The food was delicious, no problem there. I don’t understand, though, why we sat through most of our meal with empty beverage and water glasses when there were two waitresses for only four occupied tables (we went at an off-peak hour.) Our food was even brought out by the chef himself, so no idea what the waitstaff was doing...they were never even in sight to flag down to ask for water.
The music was great, as usual and the ambiance too. However, the crabcakes I ordered were inedible (rarely happens here), and they didn't have my choice of liqueur, although I am a regular who orders it everytime and for the past couple of months have been told they don't have it, in spite of the fact that they used to.
I will continue to go there for the Winiker evenings since I enjoy their music so much.
The food and service was great, and the live jazz band was so fun. But the ambiance and dining room needs some updating, and the AC was broken.
Terrific brunch - lots of choices and the food was very good
I have been to Brothers several times and have always been pleased. The food is excellent and beautifully served.
When we opened the menu and saw its large print, along with the bright lights in the room, it felt like we were at some sort of a facility and not at a neighborhood restaurant. Couldn't help but feel like something was off in the room. There wasn't anyone to meet us at the door and the bartenders were not paying attention to our arrival, despite appearing not to be doing anything but talking to each other. Our dishes were quite good, except for my husband's salmon which had no flavor. Appreciated the attention of the waiter who was helpful in getting us out in time to make a show, but this wasn't a place we'd have wanted to linger in anyway. Wish I wasn't giving this negative a review, but that's what it was like.
The food is delicious. It is a nice place for a brunch or breakfast. owners are very nice. There weak spot is in reservations - having one doesn’t appear to mean much in the way they manage tables.
The food and service on Mother's Day, one of the busiest was very good. I had a crab cake eggs Benedict and it was delicious. The campari mimosa was also very good! I highly recommend this place.
Unexpected pleasure
Great casual atmosphere, really good food and the kicker, the Bo Winniker Trio every Saturday and Sunday evening. A fun time. Family friendly but great for a date night, too!
We took or family to Brothers on a Sunday evening to enjoy both the food and the Winniker Trio. It is a charming atmosphere, much like being in a friendly, welcoming club. The winners are great and the second half of the performance is by local talent, singers, drummers, trumpet players etc. performing while accompanied by the trio.
The food is excellent. Dishes from fruit de mare to ahi tuna to brick chicken were all delicious. The portions are very generous, the food fresh and beautifully prepared and served. Sautéed vegetables were crisp and lovely. We shall return often.
The service was very rude. I made a reservation, but there were no tables ready for us at the time of my reservation. We would have had to wait 20 minutes, so we were told to sit at the bar.
The server at the bar was very short with us. Asking clarifying questions about our order before we could even finish saying our order.
Finally, an entire tray of drinks was spilled next to me and splashed on me. No one apologized for the accident.
Food was so good. Nachos were absolutely delicious.
Ambiance/ atmosphere was not great.
The wait wasn’t bad, the server was friendly but they forgot some details on our food (forgotten fruit, forgot cheese on eggs) and it tasted bland
This was our first time at Brothers and it was fantastic. We read online that they can get busy on a Sat night so we made reservations on Open Table. We requested a high-top table in the bar area which was perfect. We came in for the live Jazz music of the Bill & Bo Winiker Band who play there every weekend. I was expecting it to be very loud with a full house and the music but surprisingly the music level and guests nose level were not loud at all. You could hear yourself talk. The wait staff was friendly, accommodating and we never had to wait to order drinks. Overall I found the atmosphere very warm and welcoming. The beer selection was great with a wide variety of great local breweries - we had the Down East Cider and for snacks we had the nachos with chicken.
