Buca Di Beppo - Village Hotel Blackpool
We have to wait over 25 min to place the order (they forgot about us). Food wasn't really good, especially when compering to other Village hotels. Cold burger and chicken didn't taste good. Prices are ok. £47 for 2 starters, main dishes and beers.
overpriced for the quality of the food. wish I had stopped after the starters. slight concern redeeming a prepaid dinner voucher but sorted in the end.
Food was terrible, staff was rude, also they put people really close to your table to make it look busy.. annoying! We won’t be back!
The service was appalling. It took an hour for our starters to arrive and we had to ask several times for a jug of water. The burger was over cooked.
The coffee machine had been tuned off, we had to wait for it to be turned back on and when they eventually arrived they definitely weren’t cappuccinos. Very strong coffee with little milk.
Not a great experience
Good food and service. We had the "Valentine special menu", which was very nice.
Terrible microwaved food at restaraunt prices. Awful and overpriced, a terrible combination. Was so bad I considered refusing to pay for the first time in my life.
Lovely restaurant, not a massive choice of Italian food but what we had was very nice. Had to ask for parmesan cheese though !
Lacked any atmosphere. Food below average. Expected authentic Italian cuisine and got basic, underwhelming and over priced. Would not recommend.
We arrived at 6.30pm on Tuesday 11th February, there were two on service, and we were shown to our table and drinks arrived later. It was very quiet with only about 8 other guests, mainly single diners. We ordered a garlic pizza to go with our drinks and when it arrived at about 7pm it was cold and soggy. We then waited and waited for our main course which finally arrived at about 8pm. My wife, who doesn't usually complain, said to me this is cold; she was having some sort of steak dish. I then tried mine which was also cold. The fried chicken was very clearly a piece of warmed up cold chicken, which had gone cold again, also the salad which was meant to be warm was cold. I called for the waitress and explained the problem. I said that I wished to send it back and did not want a replacement. She offered the same to my wife, but she opted to eat hers. From then on I am afraid that the staff seemed to avoid us. When we were ready to go to pay our bill, the waiter said that he understood that we had had a problem with our meal. I explained our dissatisfaction and he asked whether I wanted him to go and see the manager. I was rather appalled at this. There was no real apology and if he had been really customer friendly, I would have expected him to have sorted it all out before we came to pay. I said no, paid the full bill and departed feeling very dissatisfied. I don't know whether we had hit a bad night but I couldn't recommend this eating place to anyone.
Friday 8pm and the place was very quiet with sombre music playing. Limited menu and expensive. £15 for a pasta dish. Food was good but nothing to enthuse about. Staff were pleasant.
Left a note when booking table for a candle in my partners dessert.. nothing.
Went for Sunday carvery lunch and didn't know it had changed. It is no longer a carvery and there are no longer any desserts. Our table was booked for 3.30 pm and after the starters we were brought a plate of Sunday lunch. Much prefer choosing what we actually want on our plate but the worse thing was being told that the breakfast items of croissants etc were the actual desserts. When I queried it they said it was because it was brunch and they said it had been set from head office. They wouldn't hear that we weren't sitting down to eat at breakfast/lunch time. By that time it was 4.40pm and they were still insisting it was brunch and so the only options for dessert were:
Oats, with fruit and yoghurt.
They wouldn't even let us have a scoop of ice cream. It is absolutely disgusting that the above items. which are breakfast items are being served as dessert items for a Sunday roast meal. Our business is definitely going elsewhere.
If it was still a carvery I would highly recommend but with the menu as it is I would not recommend
My party of four arrived 5 minutes earlier than our reservation time. We were greated at the booking in station by possibly the manager, he was neither friendly or welcoming and addressed us without making any eye contact at all. He pointed to a table close to the door and said I will be at least 10 minutes before I can get you you ... I am very busy with a party of 30....so you will have to wait ... we left and did not dine there .
As a resident in the Village Hotel we looked at a table for dinner whilst we were here. As the restaurant was closed we viewed their menu online on their website. Whilst the pricepoint was high the menu and website gave us the confidence to book a table. We did so via the website and the OpenTable system.
On arrival it was clear my note of having a quiet table for two had been ignored despite the restaurant being very quiet. Every twin table had an annoyingly bright downlighter that shone directly onto one of the chairs. Every table in each "corner" was the same.
The non-alcholic drinks offering was very limited. Finally when the menu arrived it was an edited down version of the online version. We looked at food arriving at adjacent tables.
We finally decided that the factors of limited menu, less than appetising food being served and high pricepoint giving poor value for money we paid for our drinks, explained and left.
We later ate in a town centre Italian restaurant with awesome food, brilliant ambience, attentive service and all for about 75% of the price of the prices here.
This "restaurant" style diner has many areas where it needs to improve significantly.
Very poor service
Salmon skewers ok
Beef dish poor
Around the corner from my Uk home so disappointed
I also have a home in USA and visit a few of your restaurants usually good
Ordered 2x fillet steak meals but was served an inferior alternative but wasnt told that fillet steak was not available.! very dissapointed.
Starters & main course good. Desserts not so good. Poor choice of drinks, OK if your a lager drinker, but not good if you are a bitter or real ale drinker - no choice at all. Price of drinks is a rip-off anyway. Cheaper in London than here.
Enjoyed our meal, and the service was very friendly by all the waiters especially the young lady, nothing was too much trouble.
Since the menu has changed from the Carvery on a Sunday to a set menu the restaurant/ food is no way near as good. If I had know the menu had changed before I went I would of preferred to go elsewhere. Desserts were all things you would have for breakfast. Staff were very uninterested in service which made the overall experience very disappointing. I don’t think I will be returning in the future which is a shame as it used to be one of my favourite places for a Sunday roast.
A limited menu, mostly classic Italian dishes looked quite promising. No pizza to speak of apart from garlic pizzabread staters. Which is odd as the Village Pub in the same hotel a few meters away offered a much larger range of pizza.
Starters took a while to arrive and in most parts were ok, although the pizzabread were burnt. For the mains, 3 of our party ordered a £29 fillet steak, which is no means cheap but they were huge cuts. One was cooked to perfection, the others; a medium rare (was sent back twice and magically transformed into a completely different cut of meat the 3rd, which came cremated. The other (ordered well done) came rare, then medium. All the sauces were wrong and one person had an allergy so couldn't risk trying. The guest who ordered the burger waiting for almost 40 mins to get it and patty it was burnt. The best meals of the night, hands down was the Asian Taco starter? & a less than £10 kids meal.
Ultimately the staff were the best part, friendly and warm, the manager dealt with our complaint in a very professional way. The obviously shortcomings here are in the kitchen and is probably the reason why such a huge restaurant in nice hotel was empty on NYE while all other restaurants in the entire town were booked solid for weeks.
The food was tasteless and bland
The worst carbonara I have ever had
The burger tasted weird and the bun so stale it disintegrated in my husbands hand.
I have been coming to this hotel every few months since 2012! This is by far the worst experience the staff looked like they’d had all there energy zapped out of them. I had to keep asking them for things. Wasn’t informed the Sunday carvery was now a brunch there was hardly any starters and puddings well should I say breakfast haha. Croissants and museli youghart that had been there at breakfast too. My little boy had a bread roll and some meat of Sunday lunch that was it. When I spoke to the young lady who was supposedly the manager she told me to speak to reception apparently this isn’t the case she’d fobbed me off. I spoke with the restaurant manager and he said pass to head office well I will be doing as the hotel staff are 0 interested
Lovely food excellent service the staff were very pleasant our family of seven had a very enjoyable meal they even catered for the fussy eaters thank you Devere Blackpool
Overall good food pity the kitchen forgot the roast potatoes on the Sunday lunch. Very very quiet so no ambiance could do with a make over very dated
The food was lovely. Unfortunately the service was poor. There seemed to be more managerial staff than waiting on staff. On three separate occasions we asked questions that staff were unable to answer, they went away to ask somebody else and didn’t come back with the information requested. Appetisers and starters were self serve but the main course was supposed to be delivered to the table. Unfortunately our plates were left standing in the kitchen for so long the chef brought them out himself. He was obviously annoyed. It also meant that the poached eggs on two of the plates were overcooked. Not sure any of us would go back unless we were confident of significant improvement
Terrible waitress service
Terrible food - freezing cold
Would never go back
Two tiny slices of turkey
Cauliflower cheese had no cheese on it
Needs to change back to original carvery !!
The new system worked quite well and we enjoyed all the courses. Special mention to Mark who looked after us! We have been before and will certainly return in the new year.
Great food not bad value and excellent service by Mark very friendly
Service and friendliness of staff was excellent. Food portions were really good too. More vegetarian options would have been good but what I ate was lovely. The only negative.....if you can call it that- was the noise getting things ready for breakfast the next day. Other than that we had a good evening. Thank you
The food was nice but overpriced. Food order was wrong. Staff put the order through wrong but still charged more expensive price for food we didn’t order. Hardly anyone else in the restaurant so no atmosphere.
After spending the day at the hotel enjoying the spa, treatments, coffee and cake at both the pub and Starbucks, all with outstanding service, we thought we’d finish the day with a meal with you guys. You single handedly ruined the day. After waiting an age at reception I complained we weren’t begging served. We were shown to a 2 seated table when the booking was for 3, pointed this out and moved. We’re shown the starters then abandoned. After 20 minutes we got our own water from bar. After 35 minutes no drink order or food order taken still!! so complained again. No one came to apologise or check we were ok. The place was a complete mess, staff wandering around doing nothing, swinging on chairs (literally) larking about, staring out of windows, etc. Completely apathetic. Messy tables (at least 12 in my line of vision) piled high - everywhere. (I’m really not exaggerating, I promise you) When we left, I complained again. Still no apology offered until I angrily pointed out the utter disgrace we had experienced. We got a completely insincere ‘sorry’ and a bit of money off the bill but the damage was done. You had ruined my mum’s big day and it brought me to tears. I’m appalled. There are no words. I could list a load of other issues but it’s probably lost on you and quite frankly I don’t want to waist my time. You don’t deserve to be associated to the rest of the hotel. They were in a different league.
We had booked a table on line and on arrival we were expected and a nice table was given to us. The starters were very nice indeed but the main course left an awful lot to be desired. I had the Sunday brunch because it had steak on it, although the steak was very tasty it was not terribly hot, still the taste made up for that. My 2 companions however had the Sunday lunch and chose the roast beef option. They both said that it was cold and as tough as old leather. We did complain to the waitress, who went away to do something about it but never did. When I was paying the bill I mentioned that the beef was below the standard that I would have expected and the lady (our greeter) said that they had had a lot of complaints about the beef. It was not until we got home afterwards that I wondered, as there were complaints, why was the dish not removed from the choices or at least a warning given? I am afraid that because of this experience, I will not be returning and I certainly could not recommend the food to anyone, this is a great shame as it is a lovely venue with lots of parking and a whole lot to recommend it.
Limited choice of starters and desserts, the beef was far too dry, and the gravy was very thin. Also the price of the drinks was extortionate for the area!! No where as good as our previous visits and has probably put us off from returning
Our visit was really disappointing! We brought friends with us to celebrate my friend’s birthday ! We weren’t warned about the change & expected a nice Italian restaurant not a pub ! They weren’t expecting us & just told us to find a table ( with a ripped plastic tablecloth & we had to order & pay at the bar ! Altogether not a pleasant experience & in hindsight we should have gone somewhere else! Kath Boyle
The restaurant is looking a little tired, plastic table cloth was ripped. Starters were ok, wasn't sure how long the meat and pie had been sat there though. The carvery meat was tasty but a little dry. The veg choice was good, hot and with a slight bite - nice. Cheese sauce was scant and dry on the cauliflower. Gravy was not nice. Desserts were delicious, small portions, which was just right after a big dinner. Carvery price ok but bar prices were shocking! Restaurant staff friendly and helpful. Bar staff a bit vacant and uninterested actually.
No table was booked and we had to pull 2 tables together ourselves to make a table of 8. Then we had to order at the bar where the staff didnt know how to process the DB&B rate so tried to charge us again. The service of the food was incredible poor where only 2 desserts were brought to us and when we chased them twice they could only locate 2 more and not 5! But the food was lovely just shame about the atmosphere and service.
We booked a table, but no table reserved. Food was poor to average and we were given meals we did not order. When we questioned this we were told the menu had changed! No mention was made of this when we ordered the meals. Service surly, table needed wiping - I would expect better from a decent Blackpool hotel.
Booked a table for 6 people at 7pm. Arrived and seated immediately at our table.
After 10mins of waiting, had to go and ask a member of staff for menus. We were given two menus and told they had no more. Another member of staff appeared 10mins later with another 2 menus and at this point we had to ask if we could order some drinks. The food was ok. We had ordered two portions of chips for the table which we had to chase the waiting staff for.
This is not the first time we have used this restaurant as we had booked breakfast with our previous stay however it was a buffet so there was not much interaction with staff. I don’t remember being this disappointed with the service.
The general impression given is that the staff don’t care and take no pride in their work. Customers are just an inconvenience and there was no apparent leading/management in the restaurant.
I booked specifically for the Candice Brown afternoon tea after seeing it online. I booked online, but there was no option to select for Afternoon Tea. There was also no mention of it when the confirmation email came through so I searched for a number to call. I spoke to someone at the restaurant who confirmed the booking and that it was definitely for afternoon tea, to be served in the restaurant.
When we arrived, the restaurant was locked. We were told afternoon teas are served in the pub at the back of the hotel. When we arrived at the pub, it was clear that they weren't expecting us. No one was booked in for afternoon tea at all.
When the afternoon tea did arrive, it wasn't as advertised. It appeared that as we weren't expected, some of the items on the menu had been substituted. For example, it should've been a chocolate orange scone and it was plain. The profiterole was also a completely different flavour.
I was quite disappointed as I had booked specifically for the menu advertised, being a Bake Off fan. I'd taken my mum as a present; we tour afternoon teas around the country and as a result I'm often asked for recommendations. We ended up leaving early as there was a loud football match on and a child smashing giant jenga around next to us - not the setting for afternoon tea that we'd expect really.
I visit DeVere regularly so my rating includes other times I've visited when everything has been fine. What we did eat was very nice but I won't be recommending the afternoon tea when asked.
