Come here atleast 4 times a week! Amazing 1 pound burger
The food, service, and atmosphere were ok. Nothing bad, but also nothing excellent. For the price point, i expect exceptional.
We went here for our one year anniversary dinner and were pretty disappointed. Service was okay but not great. We never had one specific server, which isn’t good service in my opinion.
we got steak and were pretty disappointed. it was bland and dry. we won’t be returning.
Horrible!!!!! Way over priced. It’s a total tourist trap. It has a cool meat locker encased in glass so you can see all of the meat. But you can walk in and take a look at it or grab a picture if your into that. I’m a total pig..,.especially when it comes to dessert. The tuna tartare app was disgusting. The twice baked potato....yuck. The other potato we had....yuck. We asked the server some questions and he kept suggesting the most expensive things on the menu even though we kept asking about other dishes and telling him we didn’t want the items he kept pointing to. He kept saying “just get that. Just get that” and pointing. I ate 1/4 of my NY. My big fat friend who loves meat didn’t finish his steak either. Dessert.. my cheesecake....gross. It was all grainy. For me to take just a bite or two and push a dessert away is huge. Greystone is literally right next door. Stk is just a few blocks away. The Strip House is just a 2 minute walk down the same street. No joke people dinner for 2 with NO alcohol. 2 Appetizers 2 entrees 2 desserts 2 cappuccinos and a crab cake to go for a friend who wanted us to grab it for them $220 before tip. I am not cheap I spent $300 for 2 of us the night before with tons of food and alcohol and the Wagyu beef special A little loud but we spent 3 hours there. Here we were in and out in 45 minutes and left depressed
I really like the look of this place and I am a big steakhouse fan so was excited to try this place. The steak was very good although pricey compared to some of the other competitors. $44 for 8oz filet and $12 for Brussels sprouts side that was in a very small side plate/not enough to share. The steak was great and seasoned very well however. Our waiter was pretty absent and not very polite but I would still give this place another chance after it has been open for another few months.
Let me start by saying, this is still a decent place to have dinner. Overall, food is ok, but disappointing consider the price. It might be that we order off of the restaurant week menu, or just a bad day at the restaurant. The appetizer was ok, nothing wrong with it, but not outstanding. Steak is very well seasoned and well-cooked. I would give it a 4 star if it ends there. But too bad, because of seasoning (maybe), there were burnt bits here and there on the steak. And it would have been fine if they didn't "hide" the burnt side by facing it down. As for sides, brussel sprouts could be crispier and farm corn could be more flavorful. Desserts (Lime cello sponge cake and NY cheesecake) tasted like store-bought. Again, nothing wrong with it, but considering the price, it is rather disappointing.
My wife and I decided to give this place a go, we opted for a Saturday evening with outdoor dining. The food was not worth the price and the entire experience felt rushed and out of order.
To start with we ordered the SEARED SALMON SASHIMI seared medium rare, cilantro, scallions, soy lemon vinaigrette. The seared salmon didn't look seared; however, it was served warm which in itself was concerning given "Sashimi" is not warm. There was no flavor and certainly could not taste or see cilantro anywhere on the dish. In addition to the dish being subpar, the app was served BEFORE we had even received our cocktails. I would also question if the dish was made fresh given it came out not 2 mins after we ordered it.
My wife's cocktail was a champagne cocktail and came out at room temperature.
For our main courses we both had the filet, medium. She had the BERNAISE SAUCE which is supposed to have herbs, visibly, wherein this serving there were no herbs, the sauce lacked any buttery or egg taste as well. I had the VEAL BONE BORDELAISE which alone was good but honestly couldn't even stand up to the taste of the steak. The steaks themselves were cooked unevenly, being med. well to well at the edges and more and more rare towards the center and even towards the opposite side. It is difficult to cook a filet unevenly given filets are usually an equal thickness across, which these were. Again, the steaks came out so quickly that I wonder just how far along they were prepped before being warmed.
Our sides were the twice baked potato and the tempura onion rings w/ chipotle garlic aioli. First, the twice-baked potato had no sign or taste of cheese or salt. The tempura onion rings were NOT tempura, they literally looked like they came from a bag of frozen onion rings that you can buy at any grocery store. There was no Chipotle Garlic Aioli with the NOT-tempura onion rings, my wife and I concluded that what they served was nothing less (or more) than BBQ sauce.
Place was pretty pleasant and staff was really nice.
The food was really terrible.
We came expecting a stake. plane simple fatty tasty steak.
What we got was a tryout of adding sauce and taste to the stake that was tt unnecessary and ruined the stake.
side dishes were also not good.
Ended up paying big money for what it felt like a tourist trap
Excellent food, excellent service, beautiful ambiance. It was pricey, but well worth it. We would definitely go neck again. Kevin, our waiter, had a fun yet warm personality.
Very good service, even better food.
The food was over cooked. Management need to get a grip of what’s going on in the restaurant. My group spent of $1K and the quality of food was very poor. I would not recommend this place to anyone I know. I have been to many steak houses such as The Old Homestead, Peter Lugers, Palm, Capital Grille , etc and this place just sucks. The worst thing I was dining super clients and I look terrible. Enough said.
Nice outdoor dining.
I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. I immediately asked to send it back as it was definitely medium in the edges with very little pink. The server took it back and the manager brought the same plate back saying the lighting inside(as we were outside) showed the filet was cooked correctly. I felt the way they handled it was not professional as they completely disregarded my opinion and were not offering any substitute. Just going to stick with Ruth Chris’s!!! Why mess w perfection.
The price of the food should include sides the explanation was not very good on what was being served or what came with the entree you were ordering I have dined in many different steakhouses across United States which compared to the cost at the butcher's cut I feel they were over price for what they offered we did not finish our whole meal and nobody asked why the only question we were really asked was can we take your plate away
Steak was perfectly cooked and we had great wine suggestions from their Somm. Crude was well seasoned, the side dishes and dessert missed the mark a little on seasoning.
Skip The fingerling potato’s, yuck tasted like fish ?!?!?!
After reading good reviews, we thought this would be a good restaurant. We won’t be going back to this one. Food was definitely fair at best. Table was left extremely dirty after plates were cleared but before desert. I’d recommend looking for a better place to eat in the area.
The fish was poor quality, heavily sauced and over priced. I never write reviews but this is necessary to ensure another family doesn’t make the same mistake.
We chose this restaurant as it had a children’s menu and the chicken was good enough for a young child.
The tuna tartare wasn’t fresh, my seafood special was missing the promised scallops, my wife’s salmon was of a lesser quality than one would expect and the happy hour drinks pricing had to be requested even though it was posted.
The server, Liz, was personable and did a fine job. She, coupled with a nice atmosphere, are the two things keeping this from being a scathing review.
Overall, it was not worth the money and I would not go there again. For the money, there are many other options that would have been superior.
We had great service from the minute we sat down. My husband had the one pound burger... delish! I had the seafood special that was quite yummy. We enjoyed our bottle of champagne that was recommended. As a final treat our waiter brought us dessert for my husband’s birthday. All in all a most most wonderful dinner!!!
The restaurant was slow to deliver food, steaks over cooked (they fixed that). I believe they were overwhelmed with guests from the convention and did not have appropriate staff.
Highly overpriced food with steaks not cooked as requested. Scallops were under done and lobster was over cooked. Went in expecting a great experience with great food and left with nothing other than a giant tab. Plenty of better high end eateries to eat at on 5th downtown. Sorry, this place was not for me.
Good and service were great. We loved sitting on the patio!
A group of 8, work dinner. Great reception and layout. Food was nice, though for the price we expected a little better quality and taste of meat. Great wine selection.
We had a party of 6, with a reservation. We were seated right away, even though it was extremely crowded, even on a Tuesday night. The service was very good. The food however, did not impress. We ordered the avocado toast to start. Where was the avocado? For $13 I expect more then 1 piece of sourdough toast with arugula on top. The avocado was spread so thin I couldn't see or taste it. I ordered a steak, medium well, it was way to pink, almost raw in the middle, and cold, not room temp, COLD. I had to send it back, and I hate to send food back. They did bring out a new steak, hot, but still too pink... but it had good flavor. The restaurant itself was so loud and hot. All of us were sweating it was so hot, the kids didn't even want to get dessert, we all just wanted to get out of there.
We had a group of four eat here for a business dinner. The food took over an hour to come out and was cold when it did come out. The manager apologized and comped the meal and sent over drinks for the inconvenience, which we greatly appreciated but it was just a bad experience to start. Wish it would have been more timely in service.
The hostess seated us and gave us each a very large menu. Large menus are an affectation of upscale establishments and are fine if they take over the table for only a few minutes; however, we struggled with ours for the better part of a half hour. I finally placed them on the floor between the table and wall. It took about ten minutes for the waiter to approach our table. We ordered a bottle of water and two old fashions. It is ok 15 minutes to get our drinks. We ordered an artichoke and crab dip to have with the cocktails and Cesar salads. They all arrived at the same time. The artichoke and crab dip was excellent, with a very light sauce. The salads were adequate. Then we waited, and waited... and waited. After 20 minutes we caught the waiter's attention and ordered our entrees. I ordered the bone-in ribeye, medium well, and my spouse ordered the eight ounce fillet, butterflied and very well done. Our waiter repeated very well done and confirmed my spouse wanted it burnt. Some twenty minutes later a single potato side dish arrived at our table. Ten minutes later two additional sides were delivered. Then the steak finally arrived. Mine was perfectly prepared but my husband's was, you guessed it, completely undercooked. We waisted another ten minutes getting our waiter's attention and returned the steak. Our meal was good, but not extraordinary. When we finished our entrees we sat with our dirty dishes for at least fifteen minutes, probably longer. We finally paid and left. However, before leaving I let the manager know that the service was poor and he told us to come back on a slower evening for better service.
We love the new menu items. When they changed we were concerned because we loved the previous restaurant too. It's nice to have a place that offers high quality food with amazing flavors but it a casual atmosphere.
Good old fashioned drinks
Average steak - vegetables were terrible
Not welcoming and overpriced
Wonderful service, food and ambience. Our server Paola was very attentive and enjoyable. Aged steaks are superb as was the lamb shank
Had a reservation that the restaurant was not prepared for. Gave us each a glass of wine to compensate. My wife ordered a special "earth and sea" that had a mushy lobster tail and tough steak. They replaced the lobster tail, it was over cooked, and another glass of complimentary wine. Oh, yeah, we should have asked but that special was $99. The service was poor. The waiter asked how we were doing and left before I had a chance to respond.
It was exactly what We needed
Love the vibe and the food is awesome! We have been there twice and it will become a “go to” when in SD!
Awesome steak! Service and wine were great!!
Will be back!
The food was amazing!! The creamed spinach could have used a little salt but other than that it was a great meal. We were a group of 3, two people shared the ribeye and I had the NY steak. we order 2 sides, mushrooms, and spinach and we left there STUFFED. If you're in San Diego this is a must.
Great food and service, really appreciate the setup. Special mention to our server Kevin , was really nice and entertaining.
We were really looking forward to eating here and the restaurant’s ambience is awesome, however I was completely disappointed with my porterhouse. They have a beautiful meat locker with all the beef in plain site, but when my $60 porterhouse came, it was a no more than a 1/4 thick and not worthy of being called a porterhouse. The rest of the meals were good and when I told the manager, he was quick to apologize and comp me the steak. I was pleased that he did so, but was not my intention. Unfortunately, we will not return as there are plenty of top notch steak houses in San Diego where I could get a porterhouse worth the money.
I was hoping that perhaps this place would not be the typical tourist restaurant of the gas lamp district. It was typical. Photos of the food on the website look much better than food served. I ordered a New York strip and found it to be less than ordinary. Sides were just OK. My advice, keep looking.
This was our first time visiting downtown San Diego from the East Coast! A friend recommended this place and we were so glad we went! Walking distance from most of the hotels in the downtown area! We had the best cocktails-you must try the Mango Mojito and the New York Strip was THE BEST steak we have ever had! Highly recommend this place! They also spoiled us and brought us bubbly and the best cannoli to celebrate our anniversary!
Chic spot! Great food! Our servers were very attentive and there right when we needed something.
Disappointed in the quality of the food. If you want a great drink, nice ambiance and excellent service this is your place. If you want a good steak go to Ruth’s Chris or any other steak place. The steak we had here was poor, at best.
