Very disappointed. My husband and I had a wonderful meal here in Oct. 2020. Service, food, and wine list were exceptional. I've never written a bad review before BUT, returned Christmas Eve 2021 for husband's birthday dinner, was a wholly different experience. Wine list markedly reduced, but had a nice cab by the glass, so that's ok. Food was "ok", hubby had a fish dish which was good, my steak frites came with not very crispy regular steak fries, I actually couldn't cut the steak with the "steak knife" I was given.
Worst of all, our server was actually laughably horrible. Comic. Best of all, she made a big fuss over fact that it was my husband's birthday, insisted that he get a dessert even though we both declined. She said "you're getting a dessert whether you want it or not, so pick one". When I paid check, realized she charged us for the dessert. Really?!!
We took out Mom out for a pre Christmas get together! Food was absolutely delicious and service was good.

Overall, the food was absolutely delicious and nice atmosphere. This is meant for the restaurants benefit. The service flow from ordering to receiving was appetizers was extremely slow. We waited over a hour as we watched wondering what happened. There was a communication error between the dining room and kitchen technology. We were compensated for this delay and the appetizers were terrific. Entrees came out not to much later. The tiramisu and cocktail was great too. We started socializing with the two tables nearby as the bar was quite active also. We ended up having a nice evening out. However, service needs to be improved with lack of attention to detail and overwhelming of limited staff. This is a hidden gem in the waiting.
Our party had the best time! Trey is a fantastic host and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the oak barrel Tequila Boulevardier.

We increased # of guests an hour before our reservation, and Cafe Chameleon was very accommodating. The space is beautiful. Our appetisers were all fantastic, and all our dinners were too! The brussel sprouts and the short rib pasta were the 2 favorites. Service was a little slow, but we were not in a rush, and Trey was so apologetic and kind, it was hard to be upset. We've been wanting to try Cafe Chameleon for a while, and we are so thrilled to have such a great restaurant close to home. We will definitely be returning
My new favorite place in north jersey! Great menu and if you don't try the octopus you are making a mistake! Great drink menu with amazing drink specials! I look forward to many great nights at Cafe Chameleon!!

Great experience and food
I had a special night planned with dinner starting a café chameleon. We had 7:30 reservations and sat at our table for 30 minutes before getting up and leaving. We understand a lot of restaurants are understaffed but having reservations and not having someone even acknowledge the table for 30 minutes was unacceptable. The third table seated after us did not have reservations but at least received water during that time. People were actually getting up from their tables to go to the bar to order their drinks. At this point, management needs to be turn patrons away without a reservation so the staff and kitchen can keep up. I dislike having to write a negative review, but needless to say, it’ll be quite some time before I even consider giving this establishment a second chance.
Great dinner experience! Food was delicious and presentation was great. Staff, especially the owner, were very attentive and made sure that we are enjoying our meal and the whole experience. We will be back for sure.
Overall, it was okay. There isn’t anything that stood out as a reason to go back. If someone invited me I would go. Like many places they are severely understaffed. We had an 8 PM reservation and had to wait to be seated even though they weren’t busy. Several tables were empty and had dirty dishes left on them. The staff was very friendly. There just were not enough of them to provide good service. It seems like they used quality ingredients, but the food wasn’t brought to the table hot.
Staff, service, and food outstanding!
The food is delicious. Our waitress was lovely, but service was spotty. It seemed like there were enough people working in the dining room, but there was no rhythm to the service. Still, we’d go back again. There are definitely more dishes to try.
We loved Cafe Chameleon. The aged tequila cocktail was beyond our expectations for a cocktail. The entire staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. The food was delicious. We had octopus as the appetizer and it was the most tender and well executed octopus I’ve ever had. We had the halibut and duck. Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious. We will definitely be returning.
We have been there a few times and there is little or no improvement of the waitstaff. They are friendly but not attentive nor do they understand what they are serving. It is a shame because the food is very good, and the place is lovely. The owner is very helpful. The scallops were delicious but the cannoli cake seemed like off the shelf not made there. The steak and the Octopus were good.
It is worth going to but it is merely "eating" not "dining."

Literally so obsessed with the food; there's nothing I've eaten that I didn't love. I will say though that it is cold in the dining area, so I highly recommend a jacket or something!
Everything was wonderful… the food, the ambiance, the waitstaff and the owner!
Drinks were poorly made. Apple martini lacked Apple Flavor and was red in color having maraschino cherry juice added- not sure why. No lime in Gin & Tonic.

granted it was a Tuesday night and the restraint was out of a lot of items. Considering it is a limited (seasonal) menu it was rather disappointing. This caused much confusion when ordering as the wait staff was not kept apprised. Some of the dishes wee missing the components listed on the menu.
My duck was perfectly done!!! Crab Aron I I was creamy delicious!! Very selective Better than average wine list. Will definitely go back.
Delicious food in a comfortable setting.
Both meals were absolutely wonderful. Pasta special with short ribs, and the short rib with whipped potatoes were perfect.
Food was piping hot. Butter was frozen but perhaps it needed to be as it was very hot out.

First time to cafe chameleon. Upon entering I asked if the music could be lowered as it was blasting & not conducive for conversation. The wait staff doesn’t appear to be versed at all with the menus, for questions. It’s basically look at the menu and figure it out. This restaurant has a terrific wine & cocktail list and their chef is wonderful. Everything we ordered was well prepared & creative. The decor unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired, in fact it’s pretty bizarre. The atmosphere and the food simply doesn’t match. This and the service is the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star. We’ll probably return in the future.

This place is amazing. The food was delicious and service was great. We love the fresh menu that changes every 6 weeks with what is in season. We have already been back and plan to be regulars.
Another great meal by Chef Bryan. The scallops with peas were fantastic and so was the halibut. Great cocktails and wines by the glass too.
Food and atmosphere is outstanding. The homemade bread is unbelievably delicious. Order the mussels and ask for extra bread to sop up that wonderful broth.
The food is 100% made on the premises - including the bun for my hamburger, the crab cake my friend enjoyed, etc. I thought the food was excellent. I thought the lunch menu, however, was odd. It was quite limited but didn't seem to include entree salads or soup. They did, however, have grilled fish tacos, an excellent hamburger with onion jam. I would like to try Cafe Chameleon for dinner when the menu is a bit more extensive.
This place is phenomenal, truly a diamond in the ruff and could beat so many NYC restaurants easily. Everything is fresh, never frozen and farm to table locally sourced. We started with two cocktails, both were fantastic. Their home made bread and butter was so good my mouth is watering writing this. For appetizers we had the mussels and the Foie Gras. My husband ordered the foie gras and I have an egg allergy. They surprised me with two pieces made to my dietary restriction, which was the highlight of my meal. The mussel were wonderful and the broth was so good. Dunk that home made bread into it for the best of both worlds. For dinner I ordered the snapper and my husband ordered the duck. The snapper served with fava beans which I love and seemingly never have the chance to eat. The skin has a perfect crisp and the fish was fresh and flaky.
The duck was by far the best duck I’ve had and was cooked to perfection. We finished the meal with an expresso martini for me, which tasted like adult chocolate milk with coffee and alcohol. My husband has the olive oil cake which was beautifully displayed and had rhubarb topping. I loved that the meal came full circle because they also served the duck with rhubarb. We’ve found out new favorite restaurant and I can’t imagine that this one will be topped anytime in the future.
Side note, as someone with serious egg and rice allergy, it was wonderful to come home and not be sick from dinner. They clearly do make everything from scratch and are diligent in ensuring that they make substitutions. Huge shout out to Al our server and Trey the general manager they were both wonderful, inviting and accommodating.
