Cafe La Cave
My husband and I enjoyed another delicious dinner at Cafe La Cave. The food is always superb and service top notch. My husband ordered the Steak Diane and we loved watching it prepared table side. I chose the Filet Mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The service is always 5 stars. Most of the waitstaff has been there forever. We love going there because everything is always consistent from the food, service and ambiance. We can't wait to go back.
Great ambiance and excellent service, not to mention the always outstanding food.
Started with escargot and French onion soup, both great, and ordered some of the specials - sea bass and filet/lamb chop combo. Both were tasty, and the lamb chops were about the largest I've seen in a while. Sides are extra, but we ordered some of those too. Tried the creme brulee and chocolate soufflé for dessert, and they did not disappoint. The service and food made for a memorable evening.
Really enjoyed our dinner. The food was very tasty. We indulged also on the bananas foster which was made table side. Really nice. It was a bit noisy as our table was in middle of room and we seemed to get bumped a lot by severe coming through. Our waiter seemed distracted. However the support staff took great care of us. Our water glass was never empty. Overall, a very pleasant experience in a unique environment with good food.
Service is always outstanding and the food selections is first class. This along time restaurant has always been an excellent choice for dinner. an
Service, food and ambiance was very good. We had two guests that were out of town and they were very impressed with Cafe La Cave. We were here before and will be back.
cafe la cave has been one of our favorites for decades. you cannot beat the ambiance of the cave room, and the food lately has been really good. one of few restaurants still offering table side preparations. service was also top-notch.
The meal was fantastic as usual. The waiters were also great. The 4 stars on service is for the banquet dept. I am looking for a venue for a shower and when we walked in, the person in charge of banquets was in the lobby. She said she would get us a banquet menu and bring it over to our table. We never saw her again. We looked for her when we were leaving, but no one knew where she was.
We love this restaurant. We where married there and had a beautiful wedding and reception. Our family and friends still talk about how beautiful the venue and the food. We came by tonight to celebrate our anniversary. What a beautiful rekindled night. The people are wonderful and the food fantastic.
We always enjoy coming to the cave and Gilberto's service is impeccable!
It was my wife’s 60th . She wanted a special dinner and place. It was just okay. The waiter was snobbish especially when my wife asked if they had sangria. The bar is in the same room as the dining room and there was an incredibly loud and possibly over served patron at the bar who was so loud the entire time we were dining. Kinda ruined the atmosphere. The food was good but certainly not great.
Also according to my wife the 2 stall-2 floor woman’s bathroom is not convenient at all.
Will say that the lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Excellence has been the theme of this restaurant for as long as I have been coming here - over 30 years - and they never disappoint. From tableside entree and dessert service to fab cocktails and wine. Kudos!
Finest food and service in the Chicago land area.
FABULOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!
Start to finish, it was a perfect evening. Service was professional and seamless. We all enjoyed each course, from cocktails and wine, to appetizers, entrees, dessert and coffee.
The five of us started with salads or lobster bisque. Three had the Grouper Special with Butternut Squash Risotto. One had Steak Bordelaise and I had the amazing Dover Sole, served table-side.
We finished with dessert and coffee and leftovers for later. We will look forward to returning!
Great ambience, delicious food and refreshing libations!!
Our annual Christmas party and the food was excellent the service was above and beyond.
Have enjoyed the atmosphere exterior the same as interior was fabulous. Filet Mignon was very good.
Would definitely come back again.
Food and service was the best and the price was good, I have always had excellent service and food.
We ordered the chateaubriand for two and it was phenomenal. The ambiance was very nice. We will be going back.
We had a group of 11 and the restaurant went out of their way to be accommodating, especially as the number changed from day to day. Gus and his staff were outstanding and every person was satisfied with their food. It is difficult to find a place to please this many people and we had no complaints. The restaurant is close enough to hotels in the O'Hare area so if you are there for a meeting or lay-over it is very convenient. The ambience is unique!
Did not feel welcome and seemed almost a burden for the serve staff. Too bad food was good although pricey.
Wonderful - as always. Gus is the perfect host!
We have been coming to Cafe La Cave every year on our anniversary for 35 years now and it’s still excellent ! We love the atmosphere, the waiters, the food and the owner Gus. Their Cesar salad is to die for as well as their steak Diane made table side and the scampi diablo appetizer. I always get the same dishes every time I come because it’s so delicious. We love the Cave!
The service was VERY SLOW. We waited more than 10 minutes to be greeted and given a menu. The coke product was flat. The crab cocktail contained 4 inch long pieces of shrimp and it was not a cheap appetizer! The soup came out and then we waited for at least 20 minutes for the salad to be delivered... On a positive note they did bring out a nice piece of chocolate cake for my grandsons birthday at the end.
Lovely restaurant, fun atmosphere and delicious food. Location convenient to O'Hare and AllState Arena and works out nicely to park and attend a concert event after dinner. However, I would think a discount for parking would be applied if you're eating at the restaurant. Service was professional but there was no warmth. We had indicated that it was our Anniversary via OpenTable when prompted to know if this was a special event but there was no acknowledgement what's so ever. Why ask if you aren't going to recognize the special event?
Food, ambiance, service, host good but they need better ventilation. Cause they cooking some of the food next to you all that smell Goes straight in your clothes. Plus if you’re going there and you pay attention to the ceiling you’ll be scared to eat there anymore cause is a chance anytime some of that combination of grace with dust which hanging all over of the ceiling to fall in your food . That was my only concern in the during of our dinner .
A really nice atmosphere. The service and food were fantastic.
Loved the ambiance until the wedding party crashed the bar and the smoke from the steak Diane flames got to me...no ventilation!
I suggest shutting off the TVs when the bar is empty and it’s not a special game. Extremely distracting and doesn’t go with such a classy place.
Other than our escargot being too salty, the entire evening was wonderful. Rest of the food was excellent. Gus the manager made us feel right at home.
Fine dining at its best. Great food great service. Gus makes you feel like royalty there
Elegant fine dining in a casual atmosphere. Silver and crystal table service. Quiet and very low lights. Menu pages are lighted. Delicious. Highly recommended for a romantic evening.
Great for a special occasion. Food was amazing and top notch from start to finish. Decor and ambiance weren't anything special for my girlfriend and I and the overbearing seafood smell upon entering the dining room was a turn off.
Everyone is amazing. The food is always perfect. Service is always on point. I’d eat here everyday if I could.
Pro tip- order the beef stroganoff. (It’s not on the menu but they make it table side)
After having been here many times previously, unfortunately this may have been our last. It was a busy Saturday night and my wife and I went for an evening out! Many years ago this was my wife’s favorite restaurant. But this evening‘s dinner was surprisingly disappointing. Beginning with they do a lot of cooking out in the dining area. One dish that they prepare quite often, I believe is Steak Diane where they cook it tableside. The amount of smoke and cooking smell has nowhere to exhaust out of the “cave” dining room. Thus, you leave smelling horribly. Secondly, my all-time favorite fish is Dover sole, and they have had a reputation for it. Well this particular time the gentleman who deboned my Dover sole tableside, did a horrible job; it was loaded with bones and was very disappointing eating it. Certainly, two aspects that I did not anticipate happened to us which will unfortunately prevent us from returning.
Gus and Randy, two of the three owners, always make us feel very welcome. Tino, our server, did s fantastic job with our meal consisting of: escargot, Caesar salad and Dover Sole. The steak Au poivre is also to die for! Love this place!
Wow the best bone in ribeye for a valued price. Potatoes and veggies were great too! Wine outstanding.
We celebrated a family birthday, and as has always been experience, Cafe la Cave completed the celebration with the great food, personal attention, and classic dining experience we have come to know and appreciate over the years. Thank you!
Great time! Excellent food!!! Service Excellent as well!!
It has been years since I was there. Have always wanted to return and finally had the chance. Just as amazing as I remember it. The atmosphere is special and the food is exceptional! Thanks for such a wonderful evening!
The service by Gilberto is always phenomenal and his attention to detail is superb!
