Caledonia Room at Valhalla Resort Hotel
Very wonderful, relaxing, romantic and delicious dinner !!
We spent 3 night at this property. It’s beautiful! The food is so mediocre. Their menu is tiny and they don’t have some of the items. It was pure and simply mediocre.
So we heard this was a must go kinda place. First thing there was nobody eating in the main room. It was empty on a sat night. Real weird to me. The food was good not great. And the drink prices were insanely high.
We tried to valet and they had no idea what to do. They left our car in the exact spot we left it. Over all super creepy feeling from this place. Like the hotel from the Shinning.
Out of several food items on the menu. Slow service, however, nice view of mountains and sunset
We celebrated my beloved dad’s 87th birthday, and it was an exceptional experience! Blessed memories linger still!
Bad. Will not return. Waste of moneys.
Delicious Food in a very charming and quiet environment. Highly recommend it! Great for couples.
We experienced great food in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere.
Very disappointed in this visit to Caledonia. The setting (outdoor seating) is beautiful. However the food and service were disappointing. Our server did not know if there were any specials. She had to go check. We had salmon and trout as entrees, The salmon seemed to be overcooked. The trout was served fried but the skin had not been removed! So I had to remove the breading from the fish and then remove the skin in order to eat it. Anyone who cooks fish should know to remove the skin before frying! I also asked for tartar sauce and they had none! Really! Fried fish and no tartar sauce.
Our first visit there last year was pretty good but I doubt we will return.
Kitchen was out of 2 of 6 entrees, and also out of both desserts. To charge the prices they do, and be out of major items at a 6pm seating is unacceptable.
Awesome. We will be back
Very pleasant evening; absolutely delicious meal, and beautiful view of the NE Georgia mountains. Thank you.
Great fine dining in Helen, GA. Resort is beautiful and dining experience was as well! We will return!
This is actually a review of the Sky Bar at the Valhalla Resort Hotel. We had a reservation for the Sky Bar, but it showed up as a reservation at Caledonia, which we cleared up when we arrived. The Sky Bar is lovely with a fantastic view of the Appalachians. The menu is comprehensive, with a range of starters, light fare, sandwiches and even entrees! Kudos to the wait staff, who are excellent! Kerala, our favorite, was outstanding!
This restaurant has gone under yet another change and the food that was so really good was not very good the last time we were there I requested a medium rare steak and it came out medium well I’m the service was not fantastic. We did find out that they have a new chef and that they were going to change the entire menu yet again. So sad that we can’t keep a consistent really good restaurant.
Great anniversary dinner. Service was excellent! Shall return.
Not very impressed. The descriptions on the menu didn’t match the food. Do Not get the buffet!! The biscuit was so hard. Way too expensive for the lack of quality.
The Caledonia Room is a large room that opens up from the hotel lobby. The view from the outside dining tables was pretty, but not spectacular. The food was a mixed bag. The flat bread appetizer and the salmon entree were excellent. The scallop entree pasta and strawberry cheesecake dessert were just OK....nothing amazing. The pasta was too soupy and the a little bland. The restaurant had live music, which was a nice touch.
I was disappointed in the fact the pasta item was not available and I wasn’t notified until after I ordered. The portion for the shrimp and grits seemed small, especially the grits portion. Service was quick and friendly. Very comfortable. Overall ok, just some room to improve.
When you advertise prime rib, there should be prime rib available within an hour of opening for dinner. Ruined my plans
Beautiful setting and excellent good We really enjoyed the entertainment as well.
My husband and I stayed at the Valhalla Resort to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We were looking forward to dining at the Caledonia Room. We were greeted quickly and shown to our table and ordered cocktails which were not served for 15 minutes. We ordered starters and they were served at the same time as our cocktails. The soup was a huge portion and delicious. The Caesar salad was also delicious and plentiful. My husband ordered a filet cooked medium rare that arrived well done. The chef delivered the replacement steak and apologized for his error. He did not stick around for us to cut into the steak. It too was overcooked. Upon sending it back and selecting another entree' the server returned with a piece of meat and said that the chef asked him to bring it out to prove that it was cooked correctly. We are not sure if it was the same steak nor did we want to eat something that had been handled multiple times. If this was not bad enough, we could hear them talking about us from the kitchen! No accommodation was offered.
We will be returning to the resort but not to the Caladonia Room.
All in all we had an excellent stay. The areas where improvement is needed is first in the area of media and the internet connectivity. Actually connectivity was virtually non-existent. My wide area connection was far, far faster and the hotel's wifi was virtually useless. Yes, you're there to enjoy with ambiance of the hotel, etc., but today fast internet connection is an absolute must. Likewise the tv's were virtually useless as well. For the cost of the rooms, tv and internet should be best in class not worst. Motel 6's are better for goodness sake.
A couple of the food servers needed significant improvement. First their appearance and dress was definitely not up to the standard the hotel is trying to hold to. Second, simple expected things seemed to be beyond their experience level. Definitely need to make sure you have top notch, experienced servers. A couple of your servers were outstanding and you need to insure all of them are at that same level.
One last thing, I was a little put off by the way a split of champagne was foisted upon us. I had the impression it was complimentary because of my wife's birthday. That's the way it seemed and it was a little awkward to begin questioning the server about it to clarify. Then I found out I was charged $45 for it. If I had any idea about this I would have refused it. You should understand, for some visitors that would have precluded any thought of returning.
It was my husbands birthday. Dinner was good, maybe turn the lights down after 7or 8 for a better ambience. Jeremiah was playing and he’s awesome!
Very good food and excellent service. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.
Everything from the arrival to leaving was amazing! Our server, Kera, was patient when we weren’t sure what to order due to the amazing options. She even asked the chef to treat the birthday girl with a special dessert! The food was amazing, but the staff was even better. I can’t wait to visit again and go back for more pasta and the view!
Food was very good and they had a guy playing music. It was very nice and low so you could still talk to people you were eating with and listen to the music also.
Great place for our 5 year anniversary dinner. Staff was attentive and thoughtful. They made us feel like we had the restaurant to ourselves. We will definitely return in the future!
Staff were attentive
Dinner presentation was great and delicious
We will try the sky room next as food was a little expensive for amount of food
Extremely pleased; met at hotel entrance by valet, escorted inside to front concierge, reservation perfect at Caledonia Room for our 50th wedding anniversary. Server and other staff were excellent & very attentive. Management came by twice to see how we were enjoying our meal & services, attention very well received!!
Very nice place. Food was good. Service and atmosphere was outstanding. If you want a more upscale place to eat that takes reservations, this is the place to go. Could use a few more bread/roll options at brunch. For the price I would expect a mimosa or Bloody Mary to be included.
As far as finding, make sure your driving directions take you in via South Main Street (17/75). GPS and Waze kept taking via Rt 356 to gated community and through Unicoi State Park. Start GPS/Waze once you hit town.
The new. Hey has done an amazing job putting together the new menus and the food was great!!!!
Lovely spot with gorgeous views inside the Innsbrook Golf Community. While we haven't stayed at the hotel, we have been to Caledonia Room twice and both times the food was fantastic. Great wine list, live music (piano or guitarist) and very professional wait staff. Upscale dining, business casual dress, don't miss dessert! If the have the Burned Orange available it is a MUST TRY for foodies! There's a porch for dining when the weather is right and don't forget to have a beverage at the roof top bar. Stunning views!
Great customer service all around. Fantastic rooms! We will be back!
Food is vey well prepared. Not a large menu but all four of us had different items and we all thought they were great. Also, two of us did order a fish dish but they happened to only have one left; no problem for us, my friend adapted without a fuss and picked another entree- afterwards they took off a percentage of her entree (maybe 15 or 25%) without us asking which was a considerate gesture, we thought. Desserts were excellent also. They had music which was very nice.
Delucious food and wonderful service. We will be back and bring friends with us!
We were greeted by our server. He was going to get water for us and would be right back. After 15 minutes, we finally had to ask for water. Brought our water and took our order. Brought our complimentary bread. We had no plates to use to eat the bread. Our food came and was then provided with a plate for the bread. Dinner was FANTASTIC! Very good food. Brought our check over and and never asked if we'd like desert. Had to ask for a desert menu. Most of the selections weren't available. Passed on desert. This is exactly why ADDING A 20% GRATUITY TO THE CHECK IS UNACCEPTABLE! Service wasn't worth 10% much less 20%
Outstanding food. Perfect atmosphere. We cannot wait to go back again.
