Went in fo
Very disappointed, have been going there since it opened in 1987. One of our favorite places over the years. The past couple of visits were not so great, just thought they were having off days. This visit, 2 plates of food came to the table and food was barely warm, at least 15 mins passed before the rest of our party was served. Not sure when or if we'll go back again.
Great views. Good salads.
Good food, great views at sunset. It was easy to make reservations online. The hostess was pleasant, and our server was excellent. A little loud, and floors are kinda sticky. But overall we liked it a lot. Would definitely go back.
Love California dreaming and I appreciate the fact they take reservations. I enjoyed watching the boats in the water and the food for my birthday!
It was okay. Not much else to say.
My husband and I were were visiting friends who live locally. The took us to California Dreaming. We were impressed by the atmosphere and the waterfront setting. Service was great. We all shared an order of Cali-Flower.
It was delicious, as was my entree of roasted salmon . We would visit again.
Best salad in town!
Waitress never came back after taking our order. We had to get another member of the waitstaff to help. She also never gave us our rolls.
Food was ok. service was ok but harried. it was about what I expected
Had to wait 45 minutes even with a reservation made. Not happy.
The Prime Rib was delicious!!!
Haley needs a raise. She has the effervescence and affability required for the position. Great service and the fact that there is a beyond burger for a vegetarian like myself really made for a great surprise. I will recommend California dreaming to all of my friend and family visiting Charleston.
Dined here 4 times since Nov. Saturday nights are too busy and much too loud. Weekday evening meals more pleasant with little wait for table.
When I reserve, I expect to have a table. Wait time was 25” for our table. Very noisy, food okay, waitress fabulous.
It’s was a great anniversary dinner
Good food, expect to wait so plan that way and you’re not surprised
I love everything about California Dreaming. The only complaint I have is that it was my grandmas birthday and I put that on the reservation. Everyone around us were celebrating birthdays and they were getting ice cream for their birthday. I told our waitress that it was her birthday and she just said “we don’t sing” everyone got birthday treats except my 90 year old grandmother.
We must have hit the jackpot. Had a 7:15 reservation made 5 days earlier and di not get seated until 8:40.
So overcrowded, and no apparent concern for our wait.
Cudos to our server, he was a rock star, and made up for the long wait.
The place was packed so we were seated at 7 when our reservation was at 6:15p. This was the only negative of the experience. The food was amazing and so was the server.
Wait was more than an hour past our reservation. Finally decided to take a "first come, first serve" table near the bar. Have a feeling that they overbook and don't manage walk ups very well. Food is okay but not worth the price and will not go back. Particularly if it is on busier days and times. Never do special occasion dinners here. View of the Ashley River and the city is good. Very disappointed.
We arrived on time for our reservation and had to wait another hour for our table. There was absolutely no parking and people were parking in the handicap spots and were employees. I made the reservation and asked for a romantic spot, they gave us a table right beside the kitchen. The waitress was too busy talking to some regular customer than taking care of their other guests. The food was sub par, the steak was bland and the best part of the entire meal was the salad. I could of went to a local place and not had the headache and enjoyed myself with my wife instead of coming here and wasting my time. It was supposed to be a special night and the entire experience made it terrible.
The place was extremely busy. We had reservations at 5:30 and checked in at 5:23pm. We then waited 30 minutes for a table that had been open the entire time we waited. We then didn’t get our salads until meals were served and only when the waitress noticed. My husband didn’t even get his salad. We had to flag down the waitress for refills on drinks. This was for our family members birthday so we were not impressed at all with the service we received. The food was good.
We had a great Valentine’s Day dinner! Only complaint would be that even though we made reservations, we still had to wait 30 minutes for our table. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for Charleston! I asked for a table by the water in my reservation notes and they got us one :) we will be back!
Great time. Good good will be back
Great Food. Great service. The only issue was made a reservation 2 weeks prior, did not get seated until 45 minutes after our reservation.
We were seated 30 past our reservation time but it was crazy busy being Valentines Day
Freaking amazing! Made my reservations here on OpenTable for 5pm. Showed up a few mins before 5 and was greeted and advised it would be a minimal wait for our table. The place was busy so that didn't phase me 1 bit. The restuarant is clean. Our waitress Katie greeted us as soon as we were seated. We got our order rather quickly, my wife and I both ordered NY Strips (highly recommend). She got hers well done and I got mine medium rare (only way to have steak). The salads were plentiful, croissants flakey and buttery. My strip came well done and I wasn't going to say anything and just eat it bc it was steak, steak is steak. But our waitress Katie has an eye for food because she saw it wasn't medium rare and immediately offered to fix it. I didn't say a word negative and again, I wasn't going to mention it and let it go but Katie didn't let that happen. She got the steak corrected and even got me more shrimp even after I ate the first plate of shrimp. I highly recommend this restaurant for a night out. It is on the pricey side BUT WELL WORTH IT!
From the time we enter till leaving the service was just outstanding and memorable. Will recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
California Dreaming is one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. A beautiful water view and excellent food at a very good value with great service makes for a fabulous dining experience. Another excellent feature is the abundance of free parking. I am a local and will keep coming back. Thank you.
Was awesome. Thank you for the great service! Looking forward to coming back!
This place is amazing I have been many times and I have Never been disappointed! Our waiter was awesome and super sweet! I highly recommend this place. The food and drink prices are good!
Nice, romantic setting. I love the big windows that overlook the water.
This is always a beautiful location and the servers are very attentive and kind. The food is prepared on time and always fresh and pricing is fair.
Food and service are always great. The view is spectacular as well.
Finally California Dreaming takes reservations. I've been waiting for this since 1986. The lines have gotten better since then but on certain nights... not so much lol, but so worth it. I love the food and cannot stay away from my creamed spinach nachos and house salad for long. Not to mention the melt in your mouth croissants. You can't beat the view. Granted, it was better before the James Island Connector was put in, but they can't help that. Go around dusk, sit outside or at the windows and if you watch carefully you can sometimes see the dolphins playing in the river mouth.
It was my son’s 16th birthday and this was his special dinner request. Everything was perfect from the service to the food to the view from our table (which is one of the main reasons he requested California Dreaming). I can’t remember our waitress’ name (I’m so bad with names 😊), but she was excellent and we couldn’t have asked for better service. It is rare to find a place where every aspect of the visit is a positive one, so needless to say y’all exceeded our expectations! Thank you so much for helping to make our son’s 16th birthday celebration so special!
Lunch with family. Food was very good, however my wife & I had crab shell pieces in our she crab soup. Otherwise very nice!
Beautiful view, fabulous food and waiter was exceptional!
The restaraunt was very dark and the service was slow even though there were not many people.
