   Great food and service but a little disappointing that some menu items were not available. For a Saturday evening you’d think there would be rice and refried beans available!

   Food was very bland, and covered in the worst tasting sauce to hide the lack of flavour in the meat/jackfruit etc. Food took about 45 minutes to come for basic tacos. Couldn't eat the jackfruit tacos so left feeling hungry. Portions are small for the prices and even if you have the advised amount you will still likely leave hungry.

   Main course food was lovely, we had the beef and also shrimp tacos. They are really tasty. We also asked for the nachos to start with 2 dipping sauces. Unfortunately it all arrived together with our mains which was a shame as it was quite a wait before it all arrived. The reason for 4 stars vs 5 stars is we were really cold where we were seated. Our table was quite near the entrance but behind a wall of bright bricks near the till point so thought it would be ok. However every time someone walked past outside, the sliding doors opened and a freezing cold draught hit us. We think there was a heater above the door ? ( if not, there should be ) but I’m sure it wasn’t switched on. We asked if we could move but this couldn’t be accommodated due to it being a busy Friday evening. It was a really cold night and obviously this won’t be an issue in warmer months but if you’re visiting in a cold night, ask for a table away from the entrance when you book. Food is amazing though and a visit is definitely recommended.

   Food was painfully average for the prices they were asking for them. I had chicken tacos and there was more batter around the tiniest piece of chicken than anything in them. Best thing about this meal were the seasoned fries, they had more of an impact on the slow, disconcerned waiters and waitresses that were being out the food, which took a while in itself. 5/10 overall, won’t be visiting again

   Food was great, plenty of variety with the starters and mains. Everything ordered was fresh and tasteful. The cocktails were very refreshing and beer selection was great. All staff were lovely and very quick with serving drinks. Came up from London and would certainly come here again.

   I was really excited to try this new place as I live round the corner. Beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere, staff were amazing but the food was awful. It either came burnt, cold or tasteless. Such a shame but great service.

   Great ambience; loved the decor and music. Loved the home made lemonade, tuna tostada and tres leches cake for dessert. Thought the beef tacos tasted bland and tasteless, however the feta cheese had been forgotten from my meal which would have helped. Staff attentiveness was a bit hit and miss but good service once you get the staff’s attention. Overall enjoyed the night but would try a different main if I ever came back.

    Food was delicious, so nice to get decent, interesting Mexican food in the uk! Lively atmosphere on a Friday evening. Cocktails were a bit underwhelming compared to the excellent food. Would very happily go again!

    This was our first visit. There are no other Mexican restaurants anywhere near. The ambiance and service were fantastic. Nice drinks menu. We tried cocktails which was very good. When it comes to food menu, the choices are very few; especially if you are vegetarian or vegan. Only taco and burrito. There are no other Mexican foods like grill, fajita, chimichanga etc. Difficult to go back the second time.

Our menu has undergone a lot of changes recently due to staffing levels/ changes so we have purposely stuck to Tacos with a few extras. We hope to evolve and keep our menu fresh so people get to experience a variety of authentic Mexican street food dishes throughout the year all made fresh in house.

    We were really looking forward to this visit after hearing great things and Cheltenham finally getting a proper Mexican dining experience. Unfortunately we felt like it didn’t live up to our expectations. We are both pescatarians and really wanted the cod tacos, unfortunately by our booking at 7:15pm on a Friday evening these were unavailable which was really disappointing. Our Tuna Tostado had waaaay too much avocado on it which made it soggy and hard to eat. My chilli & lime shrimp tacos were SO citrusy they were really hard to eat, almost to the point of feeling like they were giving me a mouth ulcer! The service was average and the atmosphere was lacking, sadly don’t think I’ll be coming back. Left feeling hungry.

    Very nice reception, food was very nice but probably not a lot for people with a healthy appetite (enough for us) drinks were nice - lots of different tequila's. We thought the price was a little on the high side for venue and quantity but would still return, We found the seating to be a little uncomfortable for the duration we stayed. on the whole a nice experience with very good service.

    An excellent experience all round. The staff were professional courteous and attentive without being “in your face” and the food was delicious with everyone in our party having cleared plates. Lovely buzz about the restaurant icing s as great atmosphere

    Food was amazing - we chose quite a few dishes - just to try it all and it was worth it. I also had a Tommy's margarita, which was so delicious - I can't wait to come back for some more. Service for taking our order was a little slow, but we weren't in a rush, so overall it didn't really matter.

    The food was absolutely delicious and the service great. We would go back but there were a few things that held it back a bit. The toilets were really grim. Water all over the floor, generally quite dirty and as there were only two toilets, always a queue. We were a table of four and our bill came to around the £175 mark. We felt the cost was a bit out of kilter with the restaurant itself. I’m not sure I would want to spend £85/£90 for just the two of us unless it were a special occasion and I would say the restaurant is a more casual experience. The cocktails were lovely but quite small and the beers were 2/3rd beers.

    Incredible! Strongly recommend Cantina Del Barrio. We went on Tuesday, when they offer a "buy one get one half price" on all tacos! I'm vegan, and my friend eats meat, but we both chose to have the vegan jackfruit tacos. Soooo good. With a side of seasoned fries. Great portion sizes! Also, the BEST cocktails. Recommend the Picante and the Paloma! (Although I haven't tried all of them yet - I'm sure they are all incredible. The menu has very reasonable pricing, there's a great atmosphere, quick and efficient service, great social media posts and engagement with customers, really friendly staff. Will be back soon!

    We were able to book a table for 9pm, however when we arrived we were told we had to order immediately as the kitchen closed at 9pm. I think the last booking should be at 8:30 as we felt rushed to choose our starters and mains and drinks at the same time. We opted to have the 9.5% service charge removed as we did not think the service was worth it. The waiters just served the food and drink and did not return to ask if we were enjoying our food. However, the food was delicious though, and we had the margaritas which were great too!

    Not super busy but it was lunch time , margaritas were fab , service very good - tip if you plan on sharing tacos , don’t order them all at once as they will be cold by the time you get to eat them ! (Our mistake)

    The food and drinks were really good, but a bit on the pricy side. For example, the margaritas were 9.50, and the sides are around 4.50 (the mains don't come with anything). We really enjoyed the chicken tacos and elote.

    As a ‘Yank’ who lived in Denver and spent a good deal of time in Houston, I am very familiar with and like TexMex cuisine. Cantina del Barrio does not do a bad job. Good casual atmosphere and unpretentious. The highlights are guacamole and margaritas - you can actually taste the tequila rather than sweetened lime juice. Some of the bean dishes could do with more sauce and cheese. More used to having refried beans and rice included with a dish rather than having to pay as sides. Same with the salsa. Worst bit was rice - just dull with no flavour. I complained and it was removed from the bill, but that only mitigated the failure. Keep trying guys, you can get better.

    The perfect place to eat with friends! It's informal with a warm friendly atmosphere. We ordered small plates and sides to share and they were all delicious. Looking forward to returning and trying out more from the menu.

    Food was very bland. You get far more flavour from any high street taco/burrito shop. The menu was confusing too. It upsells you to add on salsas which should be included by default. Without the salsa there would have been no flavour in the tacos. It was twice the price of the competitors too so I would n’t be tempted back. This restaurant automatically add a “discretionary service charge” to a bill. This is wrong and should be stopped.

    Food was very good, tasty, fresh and didn't have to wait long. A couple of minor delays but it was very busy, staff were rushed off their feet. Drinks lovely if a touch expensive. Overall loved the experience and would visit again.
