Exceptional dinner! Service, setting and food presentation over the top!
Great experience! Great tasting food prepared exquisitely. Each Chef provided a brief description of the course they prepared using fresh, local ingredients. Outstanding meal! Go with the wine pairing as well. Leaves the guess work out and is paired perfectly with Each course. Thank you!
It was my birthday
We had the 6 course menu with wine pairing. It took so long to serve the food(one hour for the first course), the food itself was not good and extraordinary small portion. The service was really slow and not smooth. Even though we did not have high expectations, it was quite disappointing and it couldn’t meet the standards of a fine dining. The only good thing was the wine. Personally, I don’t like to leave a bad review, but this place really let me down.
Very enjoyable evening and memorable experience. Food was delicious
Beautiful location, delicious food and attentive service.
Unfortunately, our food was very bland, with very little flavor or texture to the dishes... Almost like they forgot to taste the dishes before they went out. Plating was nice but so simple it really like they could have done more. They should look at a 3 Michelin star location like Quince in San Francisco. The staff seems like they have the ingredients and access to the resources but need to put more thoughtfulness in the execution and seasoning. It really is ashame because the location and the ambiance is truly second to none in the area.
Chefs Jacob and William favor bold flavors, and salt. The amuse bouche course, a kind of ceviche, did not work form me because the acid overwhelmed the fish flavor. Everything else was great: the soft shelled crab with sea grapes (! yes!) had intense crab flavor. Then pasta, like bigoli, soft and white, with peas and smoked duck in cream sauce with the only garlic flavor of the night, again, terrific. Then Alaskan King Salmon, cooked perfectly, slightly rare in the middle. Then the bread, a crusty bread and a Japanese kind of Parker House roll, mushroom butter, a full course in itself. Then the main course (!) smoked duck, with a flavor and texture I have not had with duck. Dessert was light, mercifully. The wine tasting was $125 with a white bordeaux, then chardonnay, then a rose, then a big beautiful California pinot noir, then ice wine and port. Bravissimo!
Exquisite surroundings with every effort to accommodate during these unconscionable times. Notable and varied wine list with good options for the single glass drinker - those whole bottle for the two of us days are over. We had the three items early sitting and our gourmand days are over, too - they serve a decent plate and we needed to save room for the dessert. Sitting is pre-paid with beverages extra and added. The environment is extraordinary and photogenic. I might guess there's a string trio during more relaxed and normal times.
Wow! that was incredible! suddenly! and just unforgettable!
This was our second time at Cara, and it was just as fantastic this time as the first. the service and food are outstanding!!
Elegant setting and service
Everything was great.
Beautiful dining experience. Food was delicious but portion sizes were definitely tasting size. Service was outstanding and all the servers were extremely knowledgeable. By far the best dining experience in Newport or on Aquidneck Island. The only complaint I had was that the server stopped serving us water during the dessert course and didn’t refill wine glasses with wine still in the bottle. For the price, I would have expected we wouldn’t sit at all with empty glasses.
Cara's is exceptional in every way. The chef's tastings and pairings are meticulous and always amazing. A foodie's nirvanna! We have been enjoying the food here for 11 years through multiple chefs. The creativity, presentation, and service have all, and always been spectacular.
Amazing restaurant! We had the best lobster we ever had - and that's a lot to say!!
Overall: the food was delicious, the cocktails were very good, the staff was great, the little "attentions" were very nice (e.g., the delicious chocolates to go) and the decor was very refined. We had an amazing evening!
The only disappointing aspect was the "foie gras". It was too greasy and the texture was too soft (maybe "cutting" the grease by adding big salt?). Being French we are a bit picky about "foie gras", so others might find it very good.
We went for restaurant week. It was our 40th wedding anniversary. The inside is exquisite! The hostess greeted us with Happy Anniversary! Our table was very nice. Service and food were perfect. Hopefully I will get back there. I would suggest arriving before your reservation and having a drink at the bar. Enjoy your dinner and have a late night at the bar. So much ambience! Make a night of it!
Everything about Cara - Food, Service, Ambience - was Great. A little too pricey, but am recommending to anyone who wants to try high-end french cuisine!
Well worth a visit. The service and food are outstanding. Our server, Teddie, was superior.
The menu was appealing and featured original and creative items not frequently seen on many menus, Service was impeccable . The food arrived hot which I've been disappointed about (silently) at other restaurants recently. We would definitely return and recommend this venue to others, in spite of the somewhat higher prices on their regular menu.
The four of us came for Restaurant Week as we always do. Cara has been one of our favorite destinations for fine dining. The restaurant is lovely, and the service is impeccable. This evening, I ordered the oysters, which I enjoyed. The celeriac soup was very good. The gem salad with the goat cheese mousse was oddly plated and looked as if it was about to sail off the plate. For the main course, my three dining companions ordered the the Culotte Beef Steak, and I ordered the Bronzino with creamy potatoes and I believe it was kale. I enjoyed the fish. It was perfectly cooked and had a nice crispy salty skin. All three of my dining companions, however, were disappointed that their beef was somewhat chewy. For dessert, two chocolate souffles were ordered as well as the cheese plate. The souffles were very good. I ordered the Champagne Cake. Now, I love dessert, and I always look forward to it. This was a layer cake with what I believe was a grapefruit sorbet. But the filling between the layers was extremely bitter and not pleasant at all. I ate less than half of it. Sadly, I'm not sure if we will be visiting Cara again for the next Restaurant Week.
We went during restaurant week so the price was great. But on a regular night, it's very pricey. This is a special occasion restaurant. The chef's attention to detail and creative is exceptional.
Our experience at Cara was delightful. We had the six course tasting menu and found the food to be excellent, creative and delicious. The timing of the delivery of the food was perfect...with enough wait time to allow consuming a course without feeling rushed that the next course was waiting. The service was very attentive and yet not overbearing.
Cara has a tremendous ambiance and location. the staff are friendly. The food is creative and tasty. We just found the wine program to be lacking. There are good wines but not really great wines, and the names on the list are not inspiring or creative. The evening we spent at Cara, they served a premium wine tasting with an outstanding six-course meal. The wine tasting started with a split of champagne - which just feels cheap. The chardonnay was good - a Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch - that is a solid, but not spectacular performer. The Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir (Merry Edwards and Erath) were simply dreadful. Although both wines had a good initial presence they had no depth or finish. The dessert wine was a creative apple wine but the value in the tasting just was not there.
Celebrating our one year anniversary , everything was as incredible as we remember it !
Food, service and location was outstanding. Exceeded my expectations.
Took my girlfriend for her birthday. I currently run a restaurant in New York City and Cara is on par with all the restos I frequent. Great service and wonderful original menu
First time at Cara and really enjoyed it. We had a lovely table overlooking the ocean, excellent service, and a lovely experience with the tasting menu. Go for the premium wine pairing; well worth it. Def will be back, def recommend.
A wonderful ambiance and view of the ocean, along with absolute excellence in dining and service. Nothing more needs to be said.
what a disappointment our dining experience was recently. To begin with, our server acknowledged
his inexperience by his actions long before he told us he had only been there one month. He's to be forgiven for not knowing and implementing service commensurate with FINE DINING - management, however, is not...it's their responsibility to train and supervise and continue to train all wait staff but especially those who are new. To have the server explain the uniqueness of the menu while we were clearly looking through the drink/wine menu was confusing and led to a feeling of being rushed - not suitable a FINE DINING experience. Another "gaff" by the staff occurred when they had to be waved off from clearing dishes while some at the table were still eating - this is just basic training.
These things could have been overcome if the food delivered...IT DID NOT. In the first place, the menu selection is far to limited and way to "precious". But it was in the the execution that Cara really failed...the halibut was nearly inedible and most other offerings were mediocre at best.
Cara is an exquisite place favored by our party (all Newport residents, by the way) for it's gracious ambiance and the expectation of memorable dining. We were all greatly disappointed by our evening and offer the above notes in the hope that remediation of these problems occurs so that we can look forward to returning.
Beautiful restaurant and location
This was a very good fine dining experience with outstanding ambience and service. We thought the appetizers and desserts were excellent. However the entrées did not mean that standard. Both were seafood items which which could have been warmer when served.
Just top! Every little detail has been taken care off. Excellent service. We had a wonderful 25th anniversary dinner.
Food presentation unique and food itself delicious. Restaurant was very accommodating as we had a late arrival from out of town and we appreciated their flexibility. Setting is gorgeous and noise level perfect for conversation. Would highly recommend!
We had a disappointing visit. Our waiter was apparently new and not familiar with the menu. He was very nervous so we were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, he was extremely slow and seemed to spend most of his time assisting another waiter with a party of 9. This caused lengthy delays between courses. We waited a significant amount of time for our drinks to arrive, and were informed the bar was backed up. We thusly did not order a second drink during the meal despite being at the restaurant for almost two hours. The first course was promising however, the main course is where everything went down hill. My halibut entree was dry and my wife’s filet was equally unpalatable. Desert was at best a disaster. We asked the waiter what was in the fig dish but he didn’t mention the largest component was something we don’t enjoy eating. He had walked away from our table to refresh his memory as to the contents of the dish, and yet still was unable to inform us of the actual contents. It took a full 20 minutes for it to arrive, longer than the soufflé at the table next to us. For some reason the air conditioning wasn’t turned on until after sundown, it was very warm for most of the evening. We were incredibly dissatisfied with our experience.
The food and atmosphere were excellent, however the service for a restaurant of this caliber was underwhelming. It took 15 minutes to receive water when we sat, and another 30 minutes before our first cocktails were received. The level of service continued to be slow and impersonal throughout the entire experience.
Cara is an absolutely stunning restaurant with impeccable service. The food was good but not great. I like the Prix fixe style but the selections are too limited. A little work on the menu and it will get 5 stars in every area.
My boyfriend and I celebrated my birthday at Cara, and we were so pleased. The tasting was great. George, our server, and everyone that works there are exceptional. We both did the Plunge tasting with no wine pairing. All the courses were great; definitely opened my tastebud palette! my favorite was the wagyu! Thank you for a great experience.
Amazing food, space and view. But the best part of the experience was Emily. She was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and patient with all of our questions. Our experience was the highlight of our trip to Newport. We will be back! Thanks. Jon
