Always excellent food. Fast service. Attentive waitress.
Very nice venue to enjoy a birthday dinner. Food and service were great.
Great experience and service. Thank you! Will be back again.
Very friendly staff and excellent food/service. We enjoyed ourselves and coming early in a Sunday evening was a great idea. Not many other diners making inside dining more comfortable during the pandemic.
I was very impressed with their actions on COVID. Well spaced, enforcing masks while out of your seat and I witnessed excellent cleaning of another table. Thank you for taking care of your guests.
Just ok. Won’t return.
Food was great! Our waitress, Megan, was incredible!
meals were excellent...service very good...food was delivered on time, hot and well presented...all were happy with their choices and selections
Food was not very warm, but it was delicious!
First time going there and I will be back, great get together spot
The food was delicious. I had the Blackened Chicken Pasta gluten free and would definitely go back again. I have Celiac Disease and was very impressed with the number of entrees I had to select from. My husband does not and the menu provides a good variety. My daughter had the blackened salmon and we did the larger portion so that we could share. Ended with the chocolate torte. Definitely will return here again.
Food was delicious and waiter was very apologetic when they didn't have the dish we wanted. Great experience overall.
Shrimp Chowder Soup was watery. French Onion Soup did not have croutons.
In the time of Covid19, this place seems to be following the guidelines well. The staff wore their masks. Our waitress was very good. Food was pretty good.
Very good food, plus ability to get into restaurant in a timely manner.
I had a really nice meal with a friend on Saturday night. Service is alway professional and because they are social distancing, it's very quiet and good for conversation. I've been there before Covid when it was a bit loud on weekends. I live very close to this place so I've been there a lot. People in our parties always seem to like their big entrees, and they are all pretty good and homemade, but I really like the salads that eat like a meal. Caesar salad is one to the best in town. They make their own yummy dressings so it's very fresh and I add blackened salmon (ask for NOT dry) and it's a very fine meal.
This time I had the Newport salad and It did not disappoint! Both of my adult sons love the Chicken fingers (with their world class shoestring fries) here and the fingers on the Newport were fantastic especially with ranch dressing. I added the hard boiled egg and avocado from the Cobb salad. I had the dressing on the side so I plenty to take home.
Calamari appetizer here is fantastic- be sure to order it extra crispy as with the shoestring fries.
Server was great, made our time fun! Nice, relaxing dinner with friends. Special celebration as this couple had their first (blind) date at Carlyle Grill a year and 3 weeks ago, and 3 weeks ago were married! ❤️
Worst dining experience in a long time due to a excessively noisy birthday party of six loud boisterous, screaming, yelling, laughing, people siting and sometimes standing in the dining area. The whole restaurant looked at this group when their noise rose so obnoxiously loud.
Wait staff kept exchanging glances.
We asked for a manager. A man came; he acknowledged the noise. We agreed to move, but no one ever came to do it. We stopped eating, boxed some of it up, paid out bill and hurriedly left. The party group loudly continued and the next group of guests seemed to noticed the noise as they stood in line to enter.
We had two friends with us who had never been to the Carlyle Grill. The sustained noise level was painful and the commotion embarrassed us greatly.
The birthday party could have used a more private place. They could have been asked to behave or leave.
We left without any gesture for enduring this horrible and unfortunate time.
It will take a long, long time to forget and forgive this incident, if ever.
I suggest that if people notice such rude behavior, they should reconsider where to eat, not sit down and find a better place. Staying at your table, having to choke down your food and not being able to hear others at your table may not be the wisest thing to do.
Our choice and our mistake.
Nobody seem to care enough to take action that we could see.
It could be the sign of these times when some people do not care how their actions affect others.
The food was delightful and the atmosphere was nice quiet; and pleasant. Social distance up to standard of CDC guidelines.
Really like the location of Carlyle Grill, plus the food is really good and reasonably priced food.
Great ambiance, good service, great food! wonderful selection of food and wine!
Their dinning patio is great! Not totally outdoors, but not necessarily outside either - perfect place to watch a sunset, too! Food is always great - and the service is the best!
We went food, great service. We go in the middle of the afternoon to restaurants (we have that luxury, since we are retired). Have felt safe so far, and staff are trying so hard to please customers.
Can’t beat the value. Extremely large portions. Everyone in our party had doggie bags. Wonderful flavor and innovation in their specials (like Caprese pasta??).
Post COVID precautions were carried out without exception. Felt very safe.
Try it out!!
We went here to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday with our parents and friends and had an excellent experience. The service was on point and the food was hot and delicious. One of the best carrot cakes I’ve ever had!
Amazing place. Amazing food. Amazing service.
Megan was our server and she was outstanding! Very knowledgeable, friendly and professional!
We also appreciated the extra cleanliness measures taken due to Covid.
As always service and food was above and beyond. When we visit we always ask for Megan or Jessica. Your chiken tenders are our favorite as well as the pasta Carlyle.
We were seated on the patio outside the bar. The server was excellent and served wine and a margarita, along with a superb spinach-artichoke dip plus chips. The margarita was disappointing and replaced by a Stoli martini; so much for seasonal adventurism... Our dinners of pecan crusted chicken and salmon fillet with mac & cheese were their usual delights. Before the pandemic we had dined monthly at Carlyle and were very happy to be back. For consistent service and great meals Carlyle is a gift to us all!
Our server was so helpful and nice! Even though it's a stressful time for people right now, both customers and restaurant staff.. she went out of her way to make the visit very pleasant. The food was also delicious!
This was my first time out since the start of the COVID19 shutdown and I was hesitant about eating out. But, Carlyle's had everything and felt very safe.
Had a great dinner, the restaurant was clean and very safe. Had an outstanding salmon dinner. Couldn’t ask for more. Had a great night out with my wife
Seated immediately on the covered side patio. Beautiful, nice ambiance. Jessica, our server, was attentive and engaging. Food portions were generous and delicious.
Restaurant is on top of Covid precautions.
He burgers are excellent and the appetizers are great to start off a great night
The pecan chicken was way over cooked. I did not like it. I could hardly cut it. I was at a business lunch so I didn’t complain. I eat there often and this was the worst meal I ever had there.
While there was no issue with the food or the ambiance, the service was less than stellar. We were a party of 5 on Sunday afternoon when there were many empty tables - not over populated at all. Our orders were not taken for quite a bit (which wasn't too much of a problem as we were enjoying socializing) but then after our order came our waiter did not return to check on us, remove plates or even ask if we wanted dessert when she finally did come. She was not friendly at all (maybe she was having a bad day?) and then when she delivered our check actually showed some interest in us for a moment. Sorry to post an unfavorable review but our time there could have been better although the food was good.
The food was DElicious and the servings generous. Four diners ordered four different meals and all four loved their choice. Our server may have been new and/or overworked, but he was not as attentive as we would have liked. Other servers came to fill in. When our server returned we told him we had already given our order for the first course to someone else. He said he was sorry "but I had to go to the bathroom." Definitely TMI!
On our Open Table reservation, we indicated that this was a birthday celebration. But no one offered the birthday boy anything (a free drink or desert), not even a Happy Birthday wish.
Good portions. Always tastes great. Slightly pricy. A bit noisy, so difficult for a quite conversation.
Really like the location, plus the type of food that is provided at this grill.
The place was packed which is a good sign, meaning the food is good. And it is. Plus, the service is excellent — attentive, quick, and pleasant. That’s a very big deal because we’ve had bad service at several other restaurants in Ann Arbor that were highly rated in Open Table. We can’t stand bad service so when I say that we were very pleased here, we truly had great service.
Re: the food: The London Burger (with blue cheese and fried onions on the burger) was delicious. A full size of baby back ribs was plentiful, meaty, and tasty. Each of those entrees included shoestring fries - a big amount and yummy. The faro salmon was a large portion and very good. The veggie burger got a 2-thumbs up, too. All the entrees had big portions so we don’t know how any reviewers claim there was small amounts of food.
Drinks: Loved the cocktails. Our table had a variety and none got complaints. The Cabernet Sauvignon choices (house and premium options) were okay, not great, but our group has wine snobs. Despite that little blip, all was excellent. If you are visiting a kid at UMich in Ann Arbor & have a car, it’s worth a drive to eat here for a good, filling meal. We will be back in the future.
