Although my sweet potato fries were undercooked, the burger was delicious. Our waitress was lovely but hardly any other diners and out of service juke boxes meant atmosphere was flat. Also - SO MANY plastic straws! Come on, Cattle!!
From the photos on the website, I gained the impression that it would be a fairly high end steakhouse with dark wood and ambient lighting, food served elegantly. Disappointingly what I found was a virtually empty bright and brash looking American diner - the decor hadn't been changed since the previous restaurant in that spot had closed.
I chose the Triple Cheese Burger from their Premium Burger Bay offerings expecting something wonderful in a shiny brioche bun or ciabatta roll on a wooden platter. Unfortunately I received a very ordinary looking burger in the same sort of sesame seed bun that you find in any greasy burger joint served up on a white china plate. The chips were of the basic frozen variety but the onion rings looked more homemade.
Although the burger tasted good, I don't feel it was worth the £12.95 I paid for it especially as a double patty burger sounds enormous but this was two very thin burgers - think McDonalds thin. The whole website is so misleading giving the impression of something classy when in reality it's quite ordinary and certainly not worthy of a birthday treat.
Unfortunately there were no t-bone steaks, no spicy rice and no passion fruit juice.
Our first and last visit on this basis, especially as we really wanted the t-bone steak.
Disappointing calamari, ordered a t bone to then be told 10 mins later they didn’t have any and then ordered desert to be told 15 mins after ordering they didn’t have what I ordered.
Initial bill included the t bone steak and when removed the bill was very reasonable.
Steaks were good and tasty though and cooked to perfection. Presentation of food disappointing.
Having never been to Woking before this restaurant looked lovely as did the menu. When I arrived however it was not as I had imagined. It was like a 1960's diner rather than a steakhouse and although the menu had a great range of choice, when the food came up I was disappointed considering the cost. The drinks were also a poor quality. I ordered a fruity cocktail and was basically presented with tropical juice from a carton with added alcohol, which i couldn't taste due to the sweetness of the juice and the accompanying shot of prosecco was flat. The service was friendly but disjointed and we were initially offered 241 cocktails and then the offer was rescinded as it was a weekend.
All in all not a great experience and not somewhere I would go back to.
We'very been there on my girlfriend birthday. Restaurant staff was happy to help me as I've booked a table for 2 but in different city. Food was much better than I expected, I would come back there for sure, thanks!
Had the chicken wings with your house sauce which i found very good,my mains (steak rib eye) which was cooked to my requirement but i was disappointed that there was fried onions which was cooked in too much oil which mingled with my steak. As for my son's extra large steak which was meant to be medium was well done.(It was a good thing it was discounted as it was the last one). My other son had chicken and waffles unfortunately the chicken was dry and over cooked. Not a good experience for what should have been a good mother's day.
Lovely restaurant to stop in before we watched a show at the theatre. They offer a 15% discount with a valid theatre ticket for that day.
There were two of us in our party, we both ordered the rump steak; the steak was a good size but unfortunately ours were quite fatty / grizzly. The chips were lovely, could tell they were homemade!
We had a really nice mocktail and milkshake.
They didn't lay steak knives out which shocked us because it is a steak house.. half way through our meal, we decided to ask if they had any, which they did out the back?!
Would definatly return before a theatre show :)
Having booked a table the night before we arrived just before 7pm for our booking. On arrival I tried to tell the waitress that I had a table book however I was cut off with ‘table for two?’ and quickly seated. Menus were then brought over.
After deciding what we were going to eat and drink we waited to be served. The restaurant was filling up however we were totally ignored. The staff seemed more interested in clearing tables and seating new diners than looking after the ones they already had!
After about 25 minutes of being ignored we managed to get hold of a waiter to say we hadn’t been served. He said he would get a waitress to come over.
There was a waitess close to our table however she went off to serve a table who came in after us and we were ignored again. With that we got up and left as obviously the staff just weren’t interested. We were then left with the issue of having to find somewhere else to eat
We arrived with plenty of time before our theatre show, we had to ask for a drinks order to be taken having waited some time since arriving. Drinks - they had no strong bow on draught and had run out of Prosecco! Again had to request food order was taken as time was getting on, then had to chase food as was running out of time to eat it without getting indigestion. Chargrilled veg accompaniment was abismol. Overall poor show, however bill was adjusted. Must have been very short staffed - on a Saturday night when they are within the vicinity of a theatre.
Staff were very happy and jolly. Service was very slow, steaks were overcooked, or not ordered properly. some of the food was very tasty, burgers were not very tasty. Drinks orders were wrong. wouldn't go again, sorry.
3 of us went for an early dinner on a Thursday night (6-7.30) and were very happy with our experience.
I can highly recommend going early mid-week as we pretty much had the place to ourselves to start with, so had very attentive and quick service, and the food came out quickly and piping hot.
Our server was helpful and friendly and several other staff checked on us throughout the meal.
They have Happy Hour cocktails (2 for 1) until 7pm Mon-Thurs so we tried a few of these and they were really good and well made.
We also asked if we could share a malteaser milkshake between the 3 of us, and they kindly split it equally into 3 glasses, each decorated with squirty cream. Really nice flavour, but unfortunately not very thick.
We shared 2 halloumi starters which were both really good and hot.
Then we went for the Chicken Steaks, and a Rump Steak and you can choose how it comes, with a choice of sauces, and choice of sides. Again came out well done and the chips were boiling hot.
Would happily come again and the menu is so large that there will always be something new to try.
This restaurant needs to rethink how it handles its bookings, I had booked a table for 4 and was told when I got there that they could lay a table up for me or we could sit on a table for 6, whereby the people infront of me hadnt booked and were shown to a table of 4!!!?? We waited an hour for our food!
The service was appalling as was the food it wasnt cooked properly! Rather than the staff tell people they couldnt accomodate them before the theatre they kept taking people in and seating them down, when everyone needed to be fed and the bills paid by the same time!! The restaurant was full of theatre goers..??? They should have stated at the door that if you are going to the theatre we cant guarantee that you will be served in time, instead greed got the better of them and they kept seating people!! Most of the restaurant that night complained and were given discounts because of the awful service, my party didnt have time to finish our meals, people left without getting their food, on a table of 3 next to me- 2 people had almost finished theire meal whilst the third hadnt even got theirs!!
I will try the restaurant again and hope they have got their act together next time, but if thats not the case we wont be back and wont recommend it!!!
Service was unbelievably slow, took ten minutes after we were seated to be brought a menu, a further ten minutes for the waitress to get the order correct and a further thirty minutes for us to receive our food and even then the order was incorrect. The burgers were edible, just, but the fries were awful. After we’d eaten I repeatedly asked if the table could be cleared, after the third time of asking I literally had to clear it myself. My granddaughter had to phone me from the toilet to ask me to bring her tissue and hand sanitiser because the toilet roll holder was empty and there was no soap, even if she had been able to wash her hands the dryer wasn’t working and there were no paper towels. I sort out the waitress and mentioned the toilets needed replenishing but she was totally disinterested. The restaurant wasn’t busy so I feel there was no excuse. I had visited Cattle at the previous location in Woking and was more than satisfied.
The tbone steak was the best we had ever had, cooked to perfection.
Seating was fast but being served food/drinks was a little slow but not really a problem.
Will definitely be returning when in Southampton again
The restaurant was set up like an American diner rather than a steakhouse. Very similar in design to 5 Guys. The prices were similar to top restaurant prices but the setting and food wasn't. The meat was very dry and had the texture of liver rather than beef.
The staff were lovely and very attentive but unfortunately I won't be returning.
Went in with my girlfriend and was served promptly and politely and ordered and received a very nice cocktail. To start we had nachos to share but the chef forgot to add the bacon turkey topping. While we were there a couple with young noisy children were moved onto the table next to us despite there being many tables to choose from. Despite the shrieks and running around that the children were doing clearly disturbing our experience, at no time did the waiting staff ask us if we'd like to be moved. For our main courses my girlfriend ordered a fillet steak and I ordered a T-bone both to be cooked medium rare. They came out quickly, almost the second we finished the nachos and yet both were over-cooked. I sent mine back but my girlfriend persevered with hers. I had to wait sometime for my second T-bone and this time it was extremely rare, in a puddle of blood. I sent it back again and by the time I received my third T-bone my girlfriend had almost finished her meal. This third attempt at getting my steak right was equally disastrous but in an unequal way, this time half of the steak was overcooked and half of it was rare! I informed the waitress that I wouldn't be paying for the steak and that I didn't have time for anything else as we would be late for the theatre. The chef came over to our table and apologised to me but didn't offer an explanation as to what went wrong, I assume he just didn't know how to cook a steak. This being the case, maybe Cattle should just serve burgers or find a chef who does know how to cook a steak. I was not charged for the steak and was given a beer on the house but at £54.55 this was still unbelievably bad value for money and I left the restaurant still hungry.
The service was great and the food very good and all good value too. The only downside is the location (in a shopping centre) and therefore not busy enough to add atmosphere. It's a shame it doesn't relocate to Wolsey Walk!
I booked this for my partner’s birthday meal, granted it was a Monday evening and when we arrived there were 2 other diners in the whole place.
Empty / no atmosphere / poor service / food pretty awful.
Ordered garlic ciabatta/ jerk & peri peri chicken wings. Not sure the ciabatta was actually ciabatta/ chicken wings were so bloody (spicy) hot I lost all sensation in my mouth and struggled to eat more than 1 of each and the quality of the chicken was not great. We hadn’t even finished the starters when the waiter came and asked if we were ready for the mains! (Clearly not as we were still eating the starters.)
The steaks arrived even though we weren’t ready for them and as we had already said no to them once we had no choice but the accept them this time. Sadly the chips had been double fried in order to keep them warm. The steak was barely warm and the side salad (if you can call it that) was wilted and soggy (clearly had come out of a Tupperware pot) The 3 sauces were pretty grim as well. The best one, the garlic one - don’t touch the super hot one or peppercorn as they were pretty inedible.
Over all the best bit was the side of coleslaw.
Would I return - NO
Would I recommend - NO
Has it got a good atmosphere- NO
Good Music - NO
Value for money - definitely NO
Good food - NO
All in all AVOID.
Food was good and service was fast but they didnt have a sauce I ordered. They had no cheesecake (5 on menu) or sundaes (7 on menu). A restaurant that doesn’t have food...
Red meat dishes were cooked ok, but the chicken dishes were very dry and no flavour.
Our drinks were only 3/4 full and when I mentioned this, I was told that we would get full next time... Why would I waste my money.
I won't be going again
Very good experience, staff excellent, will visit again..
Need to sort out the jukebox at the table .. Cost me 20p with no music.
Burgers were good but a bit bland. Service was pretty good! Hopefully, they'll improve the burgers! It's a good location and place in general
Friendly service in a pleasant environment. The steaks are simply amazing and the food is halal. Parking is convenient in the shopping centre car park and you can make a day of it by going shopping in this and the adjacent centres then round off your day with a family friendly restaurant which specialises in steaks and also serves chicken items... burgers as well.
After ordered, the waitress came over three times to tell us all the starters we ordered they didn’t have, two side dishes we ordered they didn’t have and one of the mains they didn’t have
we we’re very disappointed with this place we won’t go again
Do not go to cattle in woking - the staff cannot cope with the volume or the kitchen is too small. The food was both cold & overcooked / inedible. The old venue in woking was superb & the food was great. Moving to the Peacocks appears a bad move & I hope Cattle can recover.
Unfortunately the chefs needed help as they didn’t seem to be coping, despite the restaurant being less than half occupied. Our waiter got our mains wrong by ordering all gluten free burgers instead of just one, sauces were wrong and chips were missing. The food that we did get tasted great though!
The food was great very tasty. There was a great atmosphere and very family-friendly. The service was great and the staff very friendly.
Disappointing..Food very average for the price..
Funeral ambiance on a Saturday evening..
Shiping centre location lacks atmosphere.
I visited the restaurant on Saturday and was appalled at the service , the lack of staff was ridiculous and the amount of people that walked out was at least 30-40 in the time we were there ... the only saving grace for this place was that the food was good ... everything else was diabolical ... won’t be returning in a hurry for sure
The food was fantastic however there was a lack of staff serving, only two people taking orders, serving and bar staff. I’m glad I allowed two hours before our show to eat! The restaurant needs to be more organised if staff call in sick especially on a Saturday night and their prime location by the cinema and theatre.
My wife and I had a chicken burger and a beef burger after an afternoon matinee at the theatre. Both were very tasty and well presented. Our only disappointment was the lack of coffee due to the coffee machine being inoperative, hence the 4 stars.
Half the menu not available. Stated was a soft opening when complained but should’ve made this noted as soon as we sat down or provided a discount for this. Theming is totally wrong advertising as a steakhouse but new location set up like a diner. Would not return or recommend.
Service was good but food took too long! We booked for 6pm with a show at 7.30pm thinking it would be plenty of time but ended up having to rush.
The waiting staff were very friendly and when we told them we had tickets for a show, they did produce our bill very quickly which was appreciated. But the place was not full enough to justify the wait of over an hour!
Also, would advise the owners to look at their branding - there's no continuity between the website and the place itself. Was not at all what we expected and we walked straight past it thinking it couldn't be the right place!!
It is not the place for Fine Dining by any stretch of the imagination. It really is in the cafe/American diner category.
booked for an early evening meal and had an enjoyable meal service was good as was the food.
Probably early on a Tuesday not the best night to go, restaurant was empty.
So atmosphere was dreadful.
What didn’t impress me was my menu was covered in bits of food.
Food was good if not a little over priced.
Well the hint is in the name - basically if you want an exceptional steak meal this is the place to go !!
They moved our table for later which was great. They sat us next to the front door whilst that was open and it was freezing. We had to ask if we could move. Other tables were empty but they wouldn't move us straight away even though we had a toddler with us. They did shut the door. They didn't bring my child's drink with ours, we waited 5 minutes and then my partner had to go to the bar to get it. Food came out really quickly, me and my partner both had steak but my partner had no peppercorn sauce which they had forgotten so I had to ask for that also. After dinner we wanted desserts, we waited a long time to be served and had to ask the manager if we could get served. The waitress was very friendly to my child and interacted with him which was great. Overall it was an ok experience but I wouldn't rush to go back.
