The vegan menu is delicious! But we were not happy with the dessert.
The food and service at Cedar is very good. A little pricey but the norm for this area. I would recommend.
My experience was good, but not outstanding. I enjoyed the variety on the menu (both vegan and wild game options make it an accessible restaurant for various diet preferences). The pace was relaxed and perhaps even a little slow for how empty the restaurant was on a Monday evening, but it did make for a relaxing evening with friends.
Amazing service, food, and ambiance. We went on a quiet Monday evening for my birthday and were not disappointed! The Vegan dishes did not leave me wanting.
repeat diner here. consistently great...............
The service was attentive, thoughtful and competent. Love that there are options for vegans and carnivores alike! Love the private room!
Love the three course pre-theatre dinner offering. It's perfect and a great value. Cedar remains one of our favorite restaurants in DC.
Vegan paradise! Delicious options!!!! Can't wait for the upstairs to open to make it even better.
Loved the service and food however I was disappointed that two of the five main vegan entrees were not available.
Delightful; excellent food and service! Well-stocked bar; limited wine list but good selection - we chose an Oregon coast pinot noir at a reasonable price. Couple of wine selections were a bit overpriced from my perspective.

Incredible!
Disappointing is the best description. The server was very friendly and the food was brought promptly. Nothing special one way or the other about the food--just so-so. It was valentines and thus only two menus--something we had not expected. But, we were told we could not mix and match from the two menus, but in making the selections from the choices on each menu, told that THE RESTAURANT had to substitute for what was on the menu. I checked the "no" box for "would I recommend a friend" But its not a hard no. Just that, given the area, there are a lot of better restaurants within a 5 minute walk.
Perfect place for Valentine’s Day. I had the wild boar—which almost no other places ever serves. It was terrific!
Food was very tasty and there were plenty of vegan offerings. Service was fantastic and they were very attentive .
I have been a patron of Cedar for over 5 years and as always Cedar is the best value and lest restaurant for a nice quiet enjoyable dinner. The bar food is also great.
It was very nice. We especially enjoyed trying the vegan options!
A lovely place for a quiet lunch before a matinee hockey game. Delicious crab cake Benedict with a small, nicely dressed salad of fresh greens.
Nice vegan options. Good service. Basement windowless room
Our server was excellent. He made knowledgeable and delicious wine suggestions.
Excellent service, drinks, and food.
Great food with great service. Really good vegan and vegetarian options.
Went about a year ago... thought I’d give it another chance. This time the food was much better and everything was quite nicely.
Great choice for mixed group of vegan and non vegan diners
Our server was attentive and helpful. The food was quite good. This is a perfect place to enjoy the calm before the storm of the Caps Hockey Game.
Small intimate restaurant. Food was served quickly and was delicious! Great value - low cost for what seemed like a fancier restaurant with yummy food!!
The duck fries are to die for!
The food and ambiance were great. We hope to get back and try more items on the menu.
The food was absolutely fantastic: appetizers, main course and dessert of the best quality. Great service, and the jazz music that was playing was the perfect complement. Will definitely return!
We really enjoyed our first visit to Cedar. The host and the waiter, Keith, were personable and cordial. I loved my drink, “Snowflake,” quite appropriate for the New Year’s Eve celebration. The asparagus soup was very tasty; the little lump of crabmeat topped off the flavor with perfection. I had the Branzino which blew me away; first time having this fish which was beautifully done with perfectly lumpy mashed potatoes. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his vegan meal.
The only issues I had was our food was brought out later than was acceptable, especially when I noticed two couples seated after us served their food more promptly. Also, due to a mix up on the menu for vegan and regular desserts, I ordered a dessert I would not have ordered if they were listed correctly. I thought I was getting double layer chocolate cake but received a single layer chocolate mouse cake. I would have preferred another choice. Other than those glitches, the experience was lovely and we plan to return.
All of our food was overcooked. They also did not advertise that they were going to have a pre fixed menu for NYE . The prime rib was way overdone as was my husband's quail. The scallops were chewy and overdone as well. If seems as if cooking the food in bulk for a pre-set menu was their downfall. I had higher expectations going in and was thoroughly disappointed.
The food was amazing, perfect for a birthday dinner however the waitress was not very friendly, maybe she had an off day.but great restaurant!
This restaurant is the best kept secret in Washington, DC!
Cedar is the perfect pre-theatre restaurant. The food is great, and the servers are very aware of time limits. it's quiet and relaxing, excellent bartender.
Food was very good but service was mediocre at best. The server forgot our drink order (there were two of us) and had to come back. Then he moved us to another table, because a large party was coming in and he needed our table. We rolled with all of that, but then we weren't given bread plates and he took the wine list away before we'd even gotten our appetizers. Finally, he disappeared (never to be seen again) and we had to take our check to the front desk to pay. Very odd.
Food, however, was good - especially appetizers and dessert. My crab cakes were excellent, as was my husband's onion and tomato soup. I liked the vegan options, although the smoked tempeh and spinach risotto was salty and "okay." Flounder entree was very good. Chocolate mouse square for dessert was excellent! Not sure if I would go back, so hard to recommend.
We really loved going to this place! We were excited to go for our pre-Christmas dinner, and overall had a good time. The food however, was not up to what we would expect from this place. The servers were wonderful but seemed, unfortunately, understaffed. Sadly, we are not sure if we would return. The spring rolls were over fried, the Cesar salad wasn’t the same as usual and my spouse’s rack of lamb was u underwhelming. We really did love coming here, since I am vegan. Time to find a new place :/
Cedar is a great restaurant to go to when you are in DC downtown especially if you are going to the Ford Theater. The food and the service were very good. I ordered the prix fixe squash soup, salmon, and chocolate mousse for desert. The restaurant is downstairs and a little chilly. However, I would recommend going there and plan to try it again.
I was very disappointed in my experience tonight. I've been to Cedar several times before and while service can sometimes be a bit leisurely, tonight it was completely unacceptable. We had 7:30 theater tickets so when we arrived shortly before 6, we told the waiter that when we ordered. Our main courses didn't arrive until 7, despite our trying to get anyone's attention (we seemed to have two part time waiters, one the front desk manager and the other the bartender). One of the orders was not what was ordered and when we pointed that out, we were asked whether it tasted okay! Of course by then it was too late to change it and still make the curtain. No one seemed to be in charge.
this was a unique experience that left me wanting to come back and try more of the delicious food. I will come back again!
The steak and lamb were excellent. The cocktails and selected wine were also excellent. Really enjoyed the ambiance. We would give it five stars but for the overdone and lackluster vegetables accompanying the dishes. Surprising given everything else was so good. Should be an easy fix.
We went for brunch and they have a great menu, lots of vegan options. And delicious drinks. They're working on opening an upstairs space for a bar so I'll definitely be back.
