Fabulous experience! Delicious food and extremely attentive service. Highly recommend.
Very fine evening! Thank you all at Chabrol for your hospitality!
If you're looking for unassuming French food, sophisticated in its simplicity - you've found it at Chabrol. Walking in you get a whiff of what can only be the sea-side concocting in the back. Sitting down and looking at the menu, it makes sense that whitefish, tuna, bouillabaisse adorn the entrees.
This was a great way for us to spend a quiet Sunday lunch celebrating 7 years of marriage. I wish I had remembered the white wine label I ordered because that Pinot Gris was equally as memorable as my meal.
Disappointed after a few special experiences here. Quality has greatly diminished since the place expanded into the adjacent shop. Nice space, but the value is no longer there as the food is no longer anywhere near as exceptional as it used to be, and as the prices would suggest.
We sat in the bar. The bar person Maggie was phenomenal...a great asset. Friendly, knowledgable, made great suggestions. The bar area is cozy and comfortable. I wish I could say the same about the ambiance in the restaurant. The marble floor makes the area look really cold and sterile...we didn't want to go in there...too formal and straight looking. The bar and the outside ambiance are divine....not so for the new restaurant space. I'm a decorator and know it could be rectified quite easily.
This restaurant is a gem - especially delightful now that they have a dining room off there smaller bar and patio. Food is superb - among the best in the entire city. Ambience and service perfect. Highly recommend for those who appreciate excellent food and wine.
Flawless execution of a quiet evening meal for two . The cauliflower soup was perfectly portioned, presented and delicious. The Atlantic cod was wonderful paired with seasonal vegetables and the braised short rib was beyond delicious with its foundation of seasoned sweet potato. The wine list is french and a lovely Pinot complemented our meal.
This is the second I was here in 3 years & I was not disappointed. I had the Foie Gras & Cornish Hen & both were outstanding! Great wine list, cozy atmosphere, not too noisy. Highly recommend!!
My husband and I share an anniversary with my sister and brother in-law. After having heard great things about Chabrol, we decided to have our joint anniversary dinner there. Unfortunately we didn’t have the best experience - the food itself was good for the most part, but they were out of many items on the menu, including oysters, several types of wine/aperitifs and some starters. We were also seated in the back part of the restaurant, which seems to be where they wash dishes. Throughout our entire meal the sound of clanging cutlery and dishes was incessant - even though the restaurant itself was more or less empty. We were pretty puzzled by this, and it was definitely a major detractor from the ambience of the night - not to mention being surrounded by empty tables.
Great food. Good service.
For all the rave reviews, it was just sort of boring. Well done boring dishes. There were 4 of us, so we tried 3 1st, 4 mains and 1side. The fois gras was my favorite and somewhat interesting. They achieved a beautiful texture and the dish was balanced. I had the fish stew... and I have had many better with more flavor. My husband's cornish hen had very nice sides, but the hen was ho-hum. So I guess that is the crux - nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about.
We really enjoyed the ambiance of Chabrol and the food was very good (with the exception mentioned below). Our server was a bit condescending and unhelpful at first but improved as the evening wore on. The heirloom tomatoes and frisée were delicious, but the flavour pairing of the foie gras wasn’t as much to our liking. The entrees were very good, as was the apple tarte, however it was completely unnecessary to drown the tarte in the calvados sauce and, frankly, the sauce then overpowered what was a fantastic tarte. Next time we will insist on pouring the calvados sauce on ourselves and will probably use less than half the amount with which the server drenched each of our tartes. We look forward to our next dinner at Chabrol!
Food & service great. Experience great.
Just ambience (maybe because of colors and furniture) feels a bit cold (for me, subjective).
Worth every penny.
Thanks for having us!
Sophisticated food and drink, with a knowledgeable and professional staff.
House made terrine was excellent, as was the apple based dessert. Service was iffy at times. Had to get up to find someone to pour more wine, and on the second occasion got up and took the bottle to our table so we could deal with it ourselves.
Great food and Flawless execution! Best service I received in a long time. A nice touch would have been to get a little something for the fact we were celebrating our wedding anniversary but other than that, both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Chabrol!
My boyfriend and I dined her over the weekend for the first time. We came after supper, so was not expecting to order any entrees. We ordered the fois gras, the Zucchini salad, and the pork pate dish. We also ordered oysters on the half shell. Its a cute restaurant with minimal décor, but that does not take away from the ambience. The dishes came out beautifully presented which also reflected the tastes. The service was also impeccable. We plan to come back to try the entrees.
Very lacklustre experience. Came here for our anniversary (which was noted on our reservation). Food was average at best. I opted to order the side of mixed greens for a starter which was a mistake. 12$ meant a small portion of mixed leaf with some vinaigrette. Could have topped it with even some cucumber or something to elevate it but that’s maybe my prerogative. Entrees were small but fine. My boyfriend said the cod was decent, nothing special. My beef was pretty tough and a small portion, but flavour was decent. I probably could have had a comparable beef at Milestones. For 38$ each entree, it was unsatisfying and honestly over priced. We opted out of dessert as our bill was already decently high (160$ before tip) and we hadn’t been very impressed. Service was fine, nothing special. We eat out a fair amount and would have preferred to dine at Bachnal or Le Sélect for French instead of this. We weren’t even wished a “Happy Anniversary”. Seemed like a very transactional “yorkville experience”, with a restaurant resting on their decent reviews and their location. Will not be returning.
The best French food in the city...but please never take the Ttoro off the menu!!
This resto is a hidden gem with great food and service
They have expanded their indoor space and the summer patio is great for al fresco dining
Chabrol is classic French in that the menu choices are curated so there are far leas choices than the avg North American resto
The apple dessert with calvados cream takes 25 mins to prep and it is worth it
Chabrol is worth the splurge every time
Food was good as usual. Quiet restaurant and good atmosphere. Our first waiter was excellent. Our second waiter not so much. He got the order mixed up a couple of times, though we may have contributed to the confusion. He initially over charged us then did correct the bill. He seemed to ignore us at the end of the night when we wanted the bill, despite us being the last or one of the last tables that night. Previous visits to the restaurant have been a far more positive experience.
Excellent food and fanstastic server. But did not like that only a few tables inside available and a tight squeeze when another section of the restaurant was there but clearly for "important people" as in the one celebrity I saw there (who I will not name for their privacy sake)
Fantastic food. Comfy table and again fantastic food
Delicious food, extensive selection of wines to go with it, good service and good atmosphere. The outdoor seating in a small alley with its overhanging lanterns is both private and picturesque and the (surprisingly shaped but authentic tasting) calissons at the end of the meal were a nice touch . Only points to improve: we had to ask for bread with the (amazing) foie gras entrée and when it came it did not live up to the quality of the rest of the food, which is too bad in a French cuisine restaurant. The meal was that (and perhaps a larger tea selection) away from perfection.
Incredibly lovely! Can’t wait to come back. Thank you.
One of my absolute favourite restaurants in the city! Unpretentious, beautiful atmosphere, great ambience, the food is delicious and the service is second to none! A tranquil spot in Yorkville that makes you forget you’re even in the city.
I treated my parents to their anniversary and they loved their entire experience at Chabrol!
Love the food & atmosphere at this French restaurant in Yorkville.
It’s modern looking & was reasonably quiet.
Lunch was excellent - oysters fresh & waiter recommend good choice of wine to accompany a summer lunch.
Menu is fairly standard at lunch but well prepared & good quality
True French bistro-the real thing. Very small menu thus easy to choose. They offered pri-fixe or a la carte. Small wine list and only French and pricy but very good. Romantic lovely little hidden gem. Be prepared to pay for that quality.
Food was delicious, setting beautiful for a hot summer night. Service started out well, but sort of fell off as the night got busier. Have always had fantastic service at Cava, so assumed it would be the same here.
Great quiet space amongst the hustle of Yorkville. The quiche is outstanding
A small but well chosen menu. The dishes are beautifully prepared and presented. There was some confusion at our arrival about where to seat us and we were moved twice before we found a table that was what we wanted. Strange that they tried to put us in the bar, ignoring the main dining room.
Overall, it was a good restaurant. Our server was new, which is totally okay but because of this, some errors were made throughout the night. I’ve eaten at many french restaurants and in all honesty, the price is high for what you get. At most french restaurants, I feel the high price is justified through the food quality, however here, the food was average which didn’t justify the high prices. Keep that in mind. Overall though, it is a really cute restaurant.
We choose to sit inside while most other diners choose to sit outside. This definitely put us at a disadvantage in terms of service...somewhat out of sight, out of mind. Food was superb.
it was excellent - a little slice of heaven on a summer evening, in the city!
Awesome food. Tried the steak from the mains and the financier dessert. They are both great.
Food mediocre. Would not go back.
We had an absolutely stellar evening at Chabrol. Next, to some of our favorite restaurants in Paris, this Toronto establishment is doing everything to perfection. We had a lovely server, she enhanced the experience, and made the night even more memorable. Loved every moment, and every bite...
Amazing French food in a beautiful courtyard, which was surprisingly peaceful given proximity to busy streets. Wine was expertly paired by the sommelier and service could not be faulted. Would definitely go back.
Outstanding flavors and very personal service.
